Fio paused, testing the air around him for signs of his current location. In response he got nothing, just the bland taste of stale air. He'd been traveling quite a few days, and was quite aware of the large distance between him and home. But what he wasn't aware of was where. As usual he'd taken too little care in minding his steps and now he'd have to look like an idiot again begging for directions. He scowled at the idea, but quickly unruffled his fur shrugging off his frustrations and more readily focusing on what the environment had to offer. From his current view, it had little to nothing to give him. It was vast, but flat and arid. Not a good atmosphere to find anyone to ask for directions. Much less for him to find the treasure he'd been seeking. With a sigh, he turned his paws and headed in another direction. This time with his nose planted firmly to the ground. Sooner or later he was bound to pick up some kind of scent.

Fleance was content to stay where he was for the time being. He'd lost track of all of his family, save for Ninon, who he knew would be in the swamplands. But even the children he had with her were unaccounted for. Some kind of pride tradition was to go questing for a name. Yoshitaru, his waterbuck companion, was also missing in action, but he knew to loiter on the outskirts of Ninon's pride and get in touch with her while waiting for his master's return. Frankly, Fleance considered finding them all out of his power. Despite his flight and his teleportation, yes, he felt that as a god they were as good as gone. Even his favorite, Kimo. Then again, they could all have died of old age. Sometimes his sense of time was thrown a little bit off. He sighed and flopped to the ground from where he had been sitting and staring vacantly out at the sky. With his exhale and his lying down, ashes were dispersed into the air around him. He tucked his wings in close to his side and resigned himself to the passing of time. Maybe some company would be nice.

The wind kicked up around him causing a small tornado of dust to whirl right into his face. He growled with irritation as he squinted to keep the dust from entering his eyes directly. As he squinted to avoid eye injury something caught the attention of his nose, something smoky in smell almost as though it had burnt but had now died down.
The scent intrigued him, though he had no true idea where it had come from. The only clue he had was to follow the direction from which the wind had blown in. Surely if he followed its path, then whatever the scent had come from would reveal itself? There was only one way to find out.
---
After a bit more walking than he'd like to admit to, the scent seemed to be getting closer. Near enough he felt, that he should soon see something he could relate it too. He had no idea just how right he was until he nearly tripped over it.
Lying in the middle of nowhere was a large winged creature, his grey coloration pretty obvious against the landscape they were currently in. Feeling stupid would probably be a bit of an understatement now, but he couldn't spend his time brooding over himself - instead he should probably find out what this thing was.
"Hey! You alive buddy?" Fio paced around what he could assume was it's backside and soon realized he was in the presence of a lion - but a winged one? He'd heard tales of Gods, but he had taken the for just that - tales.

Fleance's head jerked up and whipped around to face the owner of the voice that had spoken to him. The lion the voice was attached to seemed unassuming enough, but Fleance's face was still riddled with distrust and unease.
"Uh, yeah... I will be for a long time." He tried to offer a smile, but he was usually pretty bad at it.
He scooted his limbs further under him, attempting to make himself as small and as far away from the lion as possible. But through all his tension, he expelled a sigh and some ashes. Why couldn't he just give the guy a chance?
"I'm Fleance. Nice to meet you."

To say he was taken aback would be an understatement. He really didn't know what he was, unexpecting could have been a good word had he ever had an inkling of a thought that gods did exist. No he was, something more, you could see it in his eyes.
The male's first comment only helped to solidify his thoughts. He had to be a god, normal lions didn't have wings or live forever. And even if he was joking about the long time thing LIONS STILL COULDN'T GROW WINGS!
Fio watched in odd amazement at the supposed god before him, and what could only be his obvious discomfort. Not wanting to further worry him, Fio took a few more steps back. All the while maintaining his focus as he inspected every element the lion before him had to offer.
"Oh, uh Fio. I'm Fio, sorry I guess i'm a little taken aback. I wasn't really expecting to encounter a fairy tale out here." He laughed uneasily watching as the ashes flew from his mouth, immediately noting the now familiar smell. "N-No offense meant of course!" He added in quickly - hoping to deflect himself from any possible wrath the god could inflict.
"A-Anyway, what are you doing out here? You could be anywhere with those wings - why's the middle of the desert your location of choice?

Fleance was pleased when the lion took a few steps back, even let his tail relax a little - and that was a lot for the God of Ashes. But... Calling him a fairy tale? He sagged visibly and a slight groan escaped him, accompanied by ashes, of course. No offense? Too late! The god's less-than-stellar ego wasn't one quick to bounce back from such statements.
He shrugged off the question. "Well, what's a better place to be? I've seen most of it, I've got time to see the rest." He looked around. Sure, it wasn't the best place he could be hanging out in at the moment, but there was worse, wasn't there?
"I guess I'm just passing the time until something better comes up." He tilted his head. "What made you pass through here?" Mortals usually had more motives, it could be interesting.

Well he had him there, it wasn't like there were that many places he could be. And those he could be, obviously this god had already been. Fio shrugged, kind of caught off guard by the question, he wasn't used to quick retorts. Especially those that held a certain amount of truth to them.
"Hmm, I dunno. I mean, you're a god ... right?" He asked cautiously, still not positive this wasn't some weird hallucination. "Don't you guys have special places to hang out? I mean, I would think you would, since it isn't exactly common to see one.." Maybe he should back off? Taking full liberty to assume things about a god? Just a few moments ago he would have sworn they were nothing but fairy tales.... Something Fleance wasn't happy with. Deciding it better to shush than to push his luck, he merely nodded at his next comment. Taking the opportunity to daydream about exactly how long he would have to wait for something better.
"Oh, I was looking for something.." He trailed off, not entirely sure of how exactly to explain his scenario. "But i'm not really sure what it is. I'm a collector, I follow my gut looking for new treasures. Today my gut drug me here, but I haven't found any treasure yet.."

Fleance nodded. Yes, he was a god. I mean, of course. The wings gave it away if the size or ashes didn't. At the next question, he sort of rolled his shoulders in a shrug. "Well, there's a God's Haven, I don't go there much." Another shrug. "You really lose track of time up there, and there are some mortals around now who I'd not like to miss out on." He meant his children. Ninon. Yoshi. Well, if they were still alive. They all were still missing in action.
He tilted his head. "Treasure? Like shiny stones or metals? Uhh..." The god scratched at his chin. What else did mortals collect... "Teeth, pelts, feathers, bones?" If Fleance was a more light-hearted beast, maybe he'd have batted his eyelashes and told Fio that he was the treasure, but that was not the case. Instead, the ashy-colored god racked his brain for what else Fio could be out to discover, and if he'd come across anything like that to give the mortal information that would be helpful on his quest.

"Oh I see, sorry I didn't mean to offend you or anything. I'm just a little out of my element. I've never actually met one of you before." Nudging his head in Fleance's direction he felt even stupider than he had before.
"Well, see that's the hard part. I don't really know what i'm after. Its sort of an instinct, I follow my gut and eventually I find something so magnificent that I just have to have it. I don't really come looking for anything specific. I think its a little lame to say but, the treasures really find me." He shrugged his shoulders at his own words, expecting to look back at Fleance and see him rolling his eyes.
"Its stupid, I know, but its what I do. Sometimes I trade the treasures away, but a good bit of them, I hold on to. I sort of .. connect with them." A small twinkle came to his eye as he thought back on some of his more personal items. "Everytime I find an item, its like I am able to connect it to myself on some level or another, its a feeling I like to relive each time I see the item." Agreeing with himself with a small nod, he looked over at Fleance once more.
"Y'know what I mean?"
Puhterodactyl Oh man! I am so sorry for this terribly late reply!

Fleance tilted his head thoughtfully. Maybe he could help Fio... Thoughtfully he turned over his shoulder and with a careful mouth, plucked one of his feathers that was near the base of his wings, far from the region that turned transparent and ashy and floated away on the wind. He stepped forward and placed it at the lion's paws before sitting. "How's that?" The god, however, didn't quite understand there was something special about an immortal's feather willfully given. But oh well. Fio was a nice enough character. Fleance probably wouldn't have any reason to regret his decision in the future. Right? Regardless, that was not on his mind at the moment, and with a bob of his head, he said "It was pleasant meeting you, Fio. I hope that I helped." end
