She was starting to enjoy patrols. At first, she'd thought why bother. They didn't seem particularly essential, and there seemed to be so many senshi around now (most of whom seemed to be more clued up and more powerful than she was anyway) that having one senshi shirk her duties wouldn't have been much of a problem. Getting her energy drained so badly had put some things into perspective, and her recent conversation with Remarque had made it quite clear that she still had a lot of things to learn. And so Eos had continued to drag herself out four nights a week, slipping out of the apartment in the dead of night after Leon had gone to bed in the hopes of gaining some new information, or getting in some sparring practice. Tonight it was the latter. The garbage youma reared it's ugly head, spewing a trail of trash around it's base in a show of intimidation as it focussed it's beady red eyes on the Senshi of Senses. Eos narrowed her own eyes, diving forwards and thrusting her fist forwards, aiming to punch the trashcan-shaped youma between the eyes. Instead of knocking it backwards, however, she found her fist sinking into the soft... sludge of the youma, unable to pull it back out again due to the weight and stickiness of the horrible black goop. This wasn't quite how she'd planned it. "s**t!" Legs instantly came up, trying to shove the youma off of her, but it quickly took advantage of the situation by opening it's mouth again to send a barrage of the black sludge-like substance spewing into the senshi. She was never going to get this out of her fuku!

Remarque did not go out at night to find youma and had been, in fact, very lucky not to cross paths with one since the last time he was in space. For someone who had been involved with the Dark Mirror Court, his knowledge was exceptionally slim in the field. He had met a youma only once, and even then he knew it only by name.
When he went out that night, he wasn’t expecting to find a creature of the same breed—or even a senshi. His goal had been to collect some energy and maybe make it home in time before his mother got back from the airport.
He picked the wrong mirror for that sort of evening.
Remarque had been gathering a pretty decent supply of energy from the area so it seemed like a good idea to start there instead of just wandering around until he wound up there, but it seemed like he wasn’t the only one who frequented this area.
Stepping through the mirror, he immediately felt two power signatures—and it didn’t take too long to find where they were coming from.
Eos stuck out in the night; her outfit was too light for her to blend in with the darkness. The fact that she had cried out just made her easier to spot. Unlike the youma; at first, Remarque didn’t even see it—until it was spewing sludge all over the girl he’d met just a short while ago.
Despite her being a senshi, he instantly sympathized with her.
“Eos,” he called, half in greeting and half so that he didn’t surprise or distract her from her new friend. “—The hell are you getting yourself into?” he asked as he trotted towards her in a rather causal pace. He watched the youma warily, not because he was afraid but because—damn, that looked disgusting.

Coughing and spitting to try and get the sludge away from her mouth, she quickly decided that holding her breath would produce the best results, clamping her mouth shut as she attempted to wrestle herself out of the grips of the sticky, sludgy youma. Her legs seemed to have a better effect that her arm, and her constant kicking was slowly driving the youma backwards. A familiar voice distracted her, however, and she spared a second to turn and spot the blonde Dark Mirror Senshi of Puppetry she'd chatted with recently. "Eos Flash!" Her encased fist glowed brightly, and this in itself seemed to drive away the youma, which gave a pained scream and retreated a few yards to eye it's prey along with the newcomer closely. As soon as she was freed Eos jumped backwards to give herself space, chest heaving as she replenished her blood with oxygen. "Remarque," she acknowledged, not entirely sure why he was here. As pleasant as their conversation had been, she wasn't sure whether he was supporting the youma or not. She figured not, but you could never be sure. He seemed surprised to see the youma, so perhaps he'd just been patrolling and had happened across the sparring. "What're you doing here?" The youma gave another shriek, but remained where it was, unaware of the effects that Eos's attack were slowly beginning to exert. Kyuseisha no Hikari will lose smell next go smile

Remarque kept a slight distance from Eos, even now—perhaps because he wasn’t very fond of the sludge she’d gotten in close contact with—but glanced from her to the fiend. “—Oh, you know. I get my kicks following senshi around in the middle of the night, creeping through shadows. Playing with garbage,” he said, nose wrinkling. There was sarcasm drifting in his words; clearly he was judging her for her chosen past time. “What are you doing here?” he asked, though the question was mostly rhetorical.
As if he couldn’t see her battling the stinking youma. He’d never cared for the things, regardless of whose side the Dark Mirror Senshi were on. “—That thing, why are you fighting that thing?” he decided, shooting a rather disgusted look at the youma. “You should probably just back up and let somebody else take care of it. Looks gross,” he concluded, hands on his hips.
“You’ll reek of garbage for days if that thing gets all over you,” he pointed out.
There were many things that Remearque probably should have done; he probably should have teamed up with the youma given that they were both aligned with chaos, or maybe he should have just minded his own business and kept walking. It wasn’t that he felt particularly inclined to ally himself with the White Moon—no, not by a long shoot—however, Eos was of interest to him. This wasn’t about making a good impression or gathering information (though he wasn’t going to complain now that he had seen her attack).
This was about timing.
And maybe a little about Remarque still holding a grudge against the last youma he’d run into.

"That's pretty creepy y'know. Makes you sound perverted, following girls around at night." Her joke was meant good-heartedly, and she flashed a brief smile to indicate so. She ignored the sarcasm, eyes carefully watching the youma before her instead as a certain sense of confusion seemed to descend on it as her attack exerted it's effects. Several sounds of indignation were made by the garbage creature before it charged forwards again anyway - the lack of smell that had just taken hold didn't really stop it from attacking the senshi. Eos cursed quietly under her breath and jumped to the side, figuring Remarque's question was rhetorical as she reached for a piece of discarded metal piping laying beside a nearby trashcan. Pivoting on her foot she slammed it into the youma's chest, quickly pulling it back again so it wasn't trapped by the disgusting goop that the creature seemed to be composed of. "Because it's a youma!" she shouted (although she didn't mean to sound quite so rude, she was just in the middle of something) as if that was all the explanation that was needed. She swiftly brought the weapon down a second and then the third time, earning strangled cries of pain from the youma each time. She jumped back to recoup when an attempt was made to spew garbage over her, both senshi and youma eyeing each other warily. Sparing a glance for Remarque she gave a wry smile, "You saying I can't handle myself?" The youma charged again, though the injuries it had sustained slowed it and Eos dodged with relative ease. Backing up to his previous question, she tried to expand, "Youma are like the grunts of the Negaverse and Chaos - haven't you been told about them?" She wasn't entirely sure how closely the DMC and Negaverse were entwined, or how much Remarque would know. Or whether he was just playing her, although she'd liked to think not.

“Yeah, yeah, I know what a youma is,” he grumbled. “Doesn’t mean I have to like them, though. He watched Eos fighting and was at least slightly impressed; he figured most of the girls he knew would have took one look at that youma and run off screaming before they broke a nail.
He didn’t envy the White Moon Senshi for many reasons, and if it meant having to fight grotesque monster youma? Yeah, just another thing on a very long list.
“You know, if you were a Dark Mirror Senshi, those things would leave you alone,” he said, stepping away to avoid the goop. Though, she seemed to be holding herself decently; he considered using one of his attacks against the creature, though he doubted that a creature composed of garbage and sludge would be an effective target.
…But he wasn’t going to let Eos have all the fun and—hell. He hadn’t seen a Negaverser around in quite some time, so who was going to yell at him if he got involved? He kept his distance while the youma charged at Eos, however with the amount of garbage and debris in the area, it was quick to find something to use.
A wooden board—a two by four, roughly three feet long, he guessed—was the most fitting weapon. Judging by the rest of the discarded wood, it had been leftover from some sort of construction project. He lifted it, judged the weight, and then took his own swing at the youma. He was a man who liked to fight with his fists, so wielding a wooden board wasn’t exactly his forte. That hadn’t stopped it from making a nice arc through the air before contacting the youma.
Even Remarque couldn’t help but grin in satisfaction at the squelch from the board colliding, even if it left his hands stinging a bit. “—So how do you kill a youma?” he asked, figuring that might have been something he should have asked before he decided to join in.

Woops, maybe she'd been a bit patronising. She was worried for a moment that she may have offended him by starting at the basics, but quickly reminded herself that as nice as he may be, he was still an agent of chaos, and therefore she didn't care. Still, she couldn't deny the slight flutter of relief she felt when he moved on and seemed unfazed by her idiot's-guide-to-youma. More confident now that he wasn't an emotional, sensitive mess of a soul, Eos quickly responded to his comments. "Yeah, but then I'd be a Dark Mirror Senshi, and who'd want that?" She wrinkled her nose a little and poked out her tongue, hoping to add some humor to what was an otherwise perfectly true statement. She respected Remarque, he'd explained his standpoint well at their previous meeting. She wouldn't quite go as far as to say she understood his reasons, but she couldn't deny that from what he'd said (whether or not he was being truthful was another matter entirely) the DMC seemed to have attained a terrible reputation just from expressing a belief and fiercely defending it. There was no shame to be had in fighting your corner. Sparing another glance for the youma - it was now watching Remarque, seemingly confused as to why he wasn't also attacking the blonde - Eos momentarily considered how she might finish it off. Removing it's sense of smell wasn't going to get her anywhere, and to be perfectly honest she wasn't willing to risk expending her energy trying again to only land something even more useless. She was just pondering where it's weak spot might be when a wooden board was suddenly brought sharply down on top of the disgusting black thing, causing a strangled scream of pain and a horrible squelching sound. Her eyes were wide as she looked up at Remarque - was he allowed to do that!? "I...what?" This was all very strange. DMC were with the Negaverse, they had chaos power signatures. So why was he attacking an 'ally'? "Should you be doing that?" Not that she wasn't grateful for the help. Not wanting to give the youma a chance to recoup, she once again attacked with her metal piping, slamming it into the black goop that she assumed was the stomach area, following up by a stab into the eye. "Hit it until it crumbles!" was her enthusiastic response to the dark mirror senshi's query, another slam of her makeshift 'weapon' enforcing the point.

Should Remarque have been fighting a youma? Maybe not. Did he care? Not really. He had a handful of reasons to defend himself if someone questioned his actions, but since he and Eos were the only ones here…who was ever going to know? Besides, it was just one youma—surely there wasn’t any harm in that? From what he’d gathered, the Negaverse had plenty of youmas to do their bidding.
Though he was still mulling over Eos’ statement about nobody wanting her to join the Dark Mirror Court. He, to a degree, had respected her decision and stance on this war. She just needed to be shown the truth—and there was still hope for her. Remarque was still convinced there was a chance for her, and that was enough reason for him to get in on the action.
How could he be the bad guy if he was taking out a monster?
“Easy enough,” the male said, drawing back and poising to strike again. He held no guilt in attacking the thing again, swinging the board with more strength than last time now that he knew what to expect. It wasn’t like he was fighting a Negaverse Agent or some creature that could actually be of some use to him. Besides—if he wasn’t supposed to do this, blame Ares. No one had ever sat him down and given him a good talking to about the ‘do’s and don’ts” of dealing with youma.
So what if the thing hadn’t done anything to set him off; he’d attacked for less. The thing didn’t seem as durable as the spider-like youma he’d once encountered, though time could have affected his memory more than he cared to admit. He’d been a civilian at the time, without the faintest idea of what to expect. Now, he knew what hew as getting into.
Now, he was getting his revenge.

Despite her promise to herself to keep it cool, Eos couldn't help the massive grin that spread across her face at the sight of Remarque laying it down on the youma. This was almost...fun! Adjusting her rhythm so they were striking at the same time, she went for the head area this time, giving a few good whacks before going for a stab-like motion in the hopes of poking it's eye out of something. The youma was defenceless, screaming in pain as the blows rained down. It tried to spew out some garbage goop towards Eos, but there wasn't much and she merely sidestepped before resuming her attack. Needless to say, it wasn't long before the final, strangled cry and the crumbling into dust that followed it. Breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling and showing considerable effort in doing so, Eos caught herself and lessened the grin more to a sly smile. She dropped her 'weapon', wincing at the loud clatter it made, before lifting her hands and placing them on her hips, looking at Remarque with a mixture of awe and confusion. "Uh...thanks?" She liked Remarque, she'd be lying if she said she didn't. He was interesting, a bit of an enigma. If only he was on the good side, dammit. She looked to the pile of youma-dust briefly, before back at Remarque again, "Were you allowed to do that?"

There was an undeniably satisfied expression plastered on Remarque’s face aw he watched the youma crumble to dust. He wondered if the youma he’d run into while on the Surrounding had met the same fate, and it brought a strange sense of closure. The back of his hand itched—not because something was affecting the skin, but because he remembered the youma. Remembered how easily it had caused so much harm.
It felt like a lifetime ago, thinking back on it, but the memory—in that moment of adrenaline—had been imprinted on his mind. Despite the fun the board had brought him, he was more than ready to discard it. Though the youma was gone, he couldn’t get the idea of all that garbage clinging to it. Following Eos’ example, he disposed of his weapon by tossing it out of the way and close to where he’d found it.
Though a bit winded from the unfamiliar battle tactics, he did a fine job of keeping his breathing under control. When it came to answering her question, he didn’t miss a beat. “No one ever told me not to,” he replied, response complete with a charming grin and a well placed wink. “But. Contrary to popular belief, Dark Mirror Senshi are not all bad. I might be smart enough to drain a small amount of energy, but those things?”
He scoffed. “I wouldn’t trust one as far as I could throw one. I don’t think some dumb beast is going to be able to make a rational decision and stop before it’s too much. We don’t want to kill anyone, don’t even want to hurt them.” Remarque changed the subject and seemed less cocky and a little more concerned. “—You doing all right? That thing didn’t knock you a good one or anything, right?”
Remarque was an actor. And a convincing one, at that. Was he particularly worried about her well being? No, she looked fine. Did he want to see her hurt? Hardly. She wasn’t outright opposed to the Dark Mirror Senshi, and if he had to butter her up a bit to make sure it stayed that way—fine. There was no denying that he was enjoying this, anyway.

Wait, so the Negaverse and the Dark Moon Court were working together, but were allowed to lay it down on each other's grunt-soldiers? She understood that DMS had mirror being things - what was it Europa had called them, mirrorwraiths? - so Remarque destroying a youma must be somewhat like a general dusting a mirrorwraith. She flashed a brief smile at the blonde, and pondered briefly on whether there'd been more behind his enthusiasm than just boredom. The wink was a bit too much, and obvious flattery, but she brushed it off and pretended she hadn't noticed. She was being genuine, and behind the guise she hoped there was some hint of it in his demeanor too. His arguement was solid, and she inclined her head to one side to show she understood. "Makes sense." Youma were the foot soldiers, they weren't supposed to think. They probably had a brain smaller than a budgie, and that was if they had brains at all. "Still, some of the chaos agents I've met don't seem to have much more common sense than one of those." She indicated the youma by kicking her foot out at the pile of dust, causing it to scatter. She was still breathing heavier than normal, but her lungs weren't aching and it was beginning to settle, and she was quick to put his mind at rest. "I'm fine," she insisted, stretching her lips into a grateful smile, "Thank you." Now what? This was a good opportunity, and Remarque didn't exactly seem eager to leave again. A quick scan of the area confirmed that it was empty, so Eos began to meander along in a slow, casual stroll, expecting Remarque to follow. "So...this whole Dark Moon Court. How are you any different to corrupt senshi?"

Corrupt Senshi? Now, that was a new one. Remarque had not heard the phrase, though racked his mind to try and recall Ares or Benitoite offering some sort of description of a ‘Corrupt’ Senshi. When none came to mind, he simply shrugged. Eos’ meandering did not seem akin to the walk of someone who wished to leave, and the fact that she was continuing conversation with him only solidified his belief that she was at least interested in company for the time being. Leisurely, he walked next to her.
“I suppose there are a lot of things I could say on the matter,” he began, and while he knew an excessive amount about the Dark Mirror Court, he made a mental note to research ‘Corrupt’ Senshi when got the chance. “Though I suppose where I start depends on what, exactly, you’re asking. That and, have you ever met a Corrupt Senshi or are you speaking from speculation and rumors?”

He seemed to be treading lightly in his response, and this confused Eos. She didn't quite understand why, it wasn't exactly secret information she was asking for - she was just curious. "No, I haven't," she relented, wrinkling her nose a little as she looked to the ground, stepping over any cracks in the pavement. "I've just been warned about them." She looked up to Remarque, searching his face for any hints that he might be playing her, "They're senshi who's starseed has been corrupted, like...overtaken by chaos energy. At least, I think so. I'm just confused how you're...not that."

Remarque wasn’t quite sure if he should be thanking Eos for the clarification or scolding her for thinking he was an idiot. He refrained from dwelling on the topic for too long and just pursed his lips, offering a thoughtful nod.
Eos hadn’t met any, so he didn’t feel too bad for not knowing much about them. “You say ‘corrupted’…but I can’t imagine it’s really that. For something that has such a terrible name…I think of it more as an ‘enlightening’. Particularly for Dark Mirror Senshi. I can’t speak on behalf of the Negaverse, but from the perspective of a Dark Mirror Senshi, it’s…like you’ve been in a room, with one door. A locked door. And then, one day, someone opens that door for you, and you finally get to see the world for what it is, not just imagine what it must be like from inside that little room. I was awakened as a Dark Mirror Senshi—I never had to struggle through finding out what was right or wrong like the White Moon Senshi. I never had that conflicted stage. I was one of the lucky ones to be spared all those lies and deceit. Chaos guides me, it doesn’t rule me. Chaos empowers me. Helps me. It’s given our Court the chance to expand, and grow, given us the chance to make not just this world, but everywhere a better place. As to what makes us different…”
Remarque couldn’t accurately speak for the Senshi within the Negaverse, and didn’t particularly imagine he’d be willing to do so. “…Maybe it’s that we haven’t quite sold our soul to Chaos.” He waved his hand somewhat nonchalantly. “We’re still us, no matter what energy flows through us. Doesn’t make us any less hated though, I’ll tell you that.”

Enlightening? She'd expected a rebuttal trying to convince her that it wasn't entirely bad, but calling it enlightening was just...it was disgusting, and her thoughts showed clearly on her face. "You'd call having someone forcefully engulf you in Chaos enlightening? It's completely...against everything we know." Catching herself, Eos looking to the ground instead, channelling her frustration into a kick at a nearby pebble. It bounced down the street, making harsh skidding sounds as it did so. "Apparently it hurts like a b***h," she continued, though with a less harsh tone. She couldn't remember who had told her that - Europa, perhaps? As he continued, she regretted her outburst - she'd had a go at him without even letting him finish, and the difference between the two was exactly what shed been asking him to clarify. "Sorry," she eventually sighed, struggling to force the word past the lump in her throat, "I didn't mean to snap." She listened quietly to the rest of his words, a slow nod showing that she understood once he'd finished. "I...think I get it," she mused, eyes tracing the cracks in the pavement below her. She could see why the DMC had partnered with Chaos. They hadn't really had a choice, since the White Moon Court wouldn't take them. It was almost like she was being...well, enlightened. She wasn't sure where everyone of Order stood with regards to the DMC, but she'd assumed they wanted to purify them. But that would never happen. This all went on inside the blonde's head, and nothing was given away on her face. Instead she merely watching the ground, waiting for Remarque's next move.
