Who: Anastacia, Ronan, and Zeke When: Saturday, May 19th 2012; about 11:30am Where: Lab 305 Weather: Sunny and warm; great outdoor weather
It was too damn nice out to stay indoors. The Lab, like most weeks, had been slow in the business department so Zeke felt there would be no harm in hanging around outside for awhile. The basketball hoop situated near the cafeteria's outdoor patio was calling to him and if anyone did arrive (or return in the case of his ward), he took precautions to make sure he heard their summons. This was namely keeping the door from the lobby into the Lab open, as well as the doors from the hall to the cafeteria and from the cafeteria to the outside. A bell on his desk that was rarely ever used was the plan to hear those who came in, but as an added layer of protection, the vet left a note on his desk stating if needed, he was outside.
As soon as these precautionary measures were set and the basketball was retrieved from Dr. Kyou's office - a stop made along the way so the vet could talk to the three glowing tanks in the laboratory - Zeke made his way out into the sun and clear blue skies of Gambino spring.
The first thing he did upon arriving out there was stretch and take a deep breath, smiling to himself as the sun touched his face and a light breeze rustled the tips of his mohawk. The second was give his approval of the day that had been coaxing him to experience it a few minutes before.
"Damn gorgeous," he said, dropping the ball from his hand and dribbling it as he walked from the patio door to where the basketball hoop stood. His pace was leisurely, soaking in rather than wanting to rush right into his planned activity, and the tank top and blue jeans-clad raver did a walk around the Lab's perimeter - dribbling the ball the entire way. The gardens were in full bloom, the grass was green, and the salty smell of the ocean wafted through the leafy boughs of the surrounding trees. Add in the light breeze, the sun, and the fact that the only clouds in the sky were the fat, fluffy white sort and it was the perfect spring day indeed.
Once the immediate area was looked over and a passerby greeted when the vet had made his way out to the front of the Lab, Zeke switched his pace to a jog as he returned to the small one hoop court and sent the ball skyward...missing the hoop by half a foot in an arch on his first shot before bouncing into the bushes.
"Dammit!"

"Get up"
Ronan blinked as the ceiling swam into view, limbs tangled haphazardly in his sheets. Right hand coming up to cover his face with a soft smack, he gave a sigh. His day off, and this still happened. In a way he guessed he should have expected it.
"What do you need Maili?" he asked, hand remaining on his face. "Not me. You" The selkie paused, and after a few moments of shuffling sheets he sat up, resting on his elbows. "Me?"
His niece stood at the end of his bed, arms crossed and a particularly worrying expression on her face. "Yes you. This is your day off. You need to do something. Something you haven't done in awhile. Go ahead and get out of the house."
"Out of the house you say?" Ronan said raising an eyebrow, now sitting up fully and taking his turn to cross his arms. "And why might you be so eager to get me off the premises?"
"I'm not," she said, putting her nose in the air. "You just need to do something for yourself today." A nice sounding sentiment on Maili's part, but Ronan wasn't buying it. The last time he had left on her suggestion he had come back to find the house filled with smoke and a brownie abomination made with half the ingredients in the house in the oven. Then again, now that she had mentioned it, he did kind of want to get out. He just needed to make the proper preparations.
"Actually, that sounds like a good idea when I think about it more. I do need to get out and stretch my legs a bit," Ronan said as he stretched his arms above his head, shoulders crackling.
"Really? Great!" Maili said, sounding entirely too happy. "Just let me know when you're leaving!" the young girl turning towards the door, almost dancing on the balls of her feet.
"Thought so."
Maili's froze, slowly turning around to face her uncle, sweating slightly when she noticed his smile.
"I'm going out... but never said I'd be leaving you without supervision."
Ronan walked down the sidewalk through town, breathing in the fresh summer air with appreciation. It really was the perfect day to get out, and he couldn't help but chuckle remembering Maili's face as he had handed her over to Kris. He almost felt sorry for her. Almost. Step springing lightly on the concrete, the selkie took the last turn to his destination. Maili's comment about doing something he hadn't in awhile had struck a cord, and either way, he figure it couldn't hurt. Coming to a stop he looked across to the glass front of the lab he had visited so many months ago, a slight smile crossing his face.
It was at that point that an unexpected sound reached Ronan's ears. A ball dribbling. And then something else.
"Dammit!"
Giving a surprised look over to the before unnoticed front court, the selkie's eyes caught on a brilliant shock of hair and the smile of before soon bloomed into a full grin. Striding over he deftly fished the orange ball out of the bush, cupping it in his right hand and holding it out to the man.
"I believe this is yours. Also, I hope this may not be too intrusive... but would your name happen to be Zeke?"
