The warm sun had just started peeking out above the horizon. Many were just now waking up to start there day. Leilani however, was already wide awake. Just like any other day, Leilani was up before the sun, and had made here way to her favorite spot in the meadow. She loved laying among the flowers, especially the purple ones. That's the spot where she just knew that she'd someday finally meet a flutter, something she had only dreamed about.
As the sun peeked, Leilani felt something on her nose. She crossed her eyes to look closely at what had landed. She saw a very small pony looking squares into her eyes. "What?" she yelled in excitement. She jumped up quickly, ecstatic that she had finally seen a flutter. Moments after jumping, she realized that she had only been day dreaming.
Her heart was still racing, but she tried to calm down. As she thought more and more, she began to feel a bit depressed. She thought she had finally seen a flutter.

The flowers, heavy with morning dew and thick with nectar, were just the breakfast the little humming bird craved. Purple flowers tasted the best, of course. And this was a new field, one he hadn't been to before. The treat was so incredible he quickly lost himself flitting from flower to flower.
Then, there was a large mare jumping and trampling the flower he had just been heading towards. Startled, he darted up, a blur of purple and white. "Hey!" His little voice piped.
He wasn't normally so bold, or outgoing. But when he saw a hoof the size of his whole body crashing down towards him, the exclamation was startled from him.

Leilani had just gone into a small state of depression. She had really hoped that her dream of meeting a flutter had finally come true. Suddenly she heard a small voice yell. In the same instant that she had gone from excited to depressed, she had gone back to happy again. Now she heard it. She looked frantically around, searching. It could be anywhere. "Wait!" she yelled at herself. "I won't be able to see it from up here!" Leilani was way to excited to think about looking around to see where the voice was coming from. Instead she hunched down on her front legs into the flowers, sniffing lightly around. "Hello?" she called softly into the flowers. "Where are you hiding?" she continued. "I know I heard you in here somewhere." Leilani didn't give much time to hear any response, her excitement had consumed her to much.

The small hummingbird darted and flitted, avoiding the large mare. But for all her unthinking clumsiness, she did seem genuinely interested in talking with him. So, after a moment's hesitation, he flew in front of her face. His tiny wings beating so quickly they were just a blur as he hovered in place for a moment.
"Hello. You look for me?" His question sounding somewhat surprised. After all, no one ever looked for him.

Leilani's excitement could hardly be contained when she heard movement and saw something fluttering. Just as the small bird slowed in front of her face though, Leilani suddenly felt depressed. "Oh, your just a.... bird." she said. She wasn't meaning to sound mean, but the excitement of finally seeing a flutter had consumed to her much, and her hopes had been let down. "They must not even exhist!" she said grumpily to herself. "Its just a tale."
Leilani lowered her head, and sulked for a few moments, pretty much ignoring the bird that had made its appearance.

Deciding the large mare wasn't going to continue to be a threat, the humming bird landed upon her horn. "You have tail. I have tail. What tail we look for?"
He peered down into her face, head rotated to look at her upside down from his perch upon her horn.

Leilani giggled at the little bird. "You're so silly," she laughed, letting her mind divert off of the previous topic. "I'm not looking for a TAIL...." Suddenly Leilani got real quiet, thinking again. "Maybe this fella can help me after all. I bet he would know about flutters, and could tell me if it was a tale. She looked nearly cross eyed as she try to talk to him upon his perch. "Have you seen any smaller...things... like me, but with REAL wings, like yours?" She waited impatiently, only give the bird a few second to answer before starting on a little tangent. "You know, I'd like to meet one, and I have not seen one yet, and someone told me there were real, but I cant seem to ever see one, and I am beggining to think they are not real, but then why would someone lie to me... " Leilani stopped for a breath.

He twisted his head around to look at her right side up, then turned it the other way for a new inverted angle. "Like you with wings? Small, small in flowers? Small small, smaller than me. Take all the good flower juices. Yes?"
And then, as if the stillness is too much for him, his wings blur and he's hovering in front of Leilani.

Leilani listened intently as the bird talked, but as soon as he finished, she was on a roll again. "Yes, yes, YES!, Thats it!" Leilani got excited again, and knew she'd probably have to catch her breath once again, but this was to important for now. "Yes! Have you seen any? Are they real? Oh please tell me so!" Leilani took a second to catch her mind up to her mouth, and get some oxygen flowing.
Leilani had a hard time keeping her eyes on the quick little bird. "I might go cross-eyed before i get an answer." she thought to herself.

He darts down to a flower and back before dipping his whole body a few times in what amounts to a flying nod. "Yes, yes. Yes real, yes real. Why not be real? Even have tails, not ever seen a just tail."
Spotting a partially wilted flower, he darts down to it, his beak disappearing for a moment before he darts back. A virtual blur of motion. "None here now, only me and flowers. Flowers good, good not to share."

Looneytaz82 As Leilani listened to the bird, she could feel her emotions going up and down again. She didn't understand why she always felt this way, but began thinking a bit more as the bird finished. "So, none here now? she asked sadly, "Are you sure? Maybe you should look again!" She really had given up hope, but paused for a minute to think. "Wait!" she yelled. "Did you just say they are real? You've seen one before? Where was it? Here, in these flowers?"
She wondered a bit, waiting for the birds response. This little bird had seen flutters before. Maybe he could help her find another one. "Now?" she questioned herself, almost think that this bird would have some sort of tracking device for flutters. Leilani's spirits lifted more as she thought. This little bird might be beneficial to helping her find a flutter, and her true love.

He looks a bit confused. "Have seen, yes. Seen before, not now, not here now. Come, eat good flowers, then go. No need look, not here." He darts back to land on her horn again. "Why want? Want step on? You like step on small ones in flowers?"

Leilani listened for a few seconds. Up until the bird mentioned eating flowers. "I would never... NEVER eat the flowers... These are homes... homes to the flutters. I wouldn't want to...." She was cut off by the bird flying over and landing on her horn. His landing threw her equilibrium off, and she gave a quick bobble and straightened up. Before she continued though, the bird started speaking again.
"WHAT? NO!, I'D NEVER!" she yelled. Why would anyone STEP on them?" she asked. "Wait, have you seen someone do that?" she asked. She wondered who would ever do something so horrible as that.

He bobs up and down in a full body nod, though she can't really see it. "Clawed ones like to crush, bat ones like to crush. Like to eat crushed things. No one lives in flowers, easy to crush. Must be fast, must be small, hide quick."

"They sound very mean!" Leilani answered. She could barely keep track of the little bird. She wondered what he was referring too, confused now with the little bird. Did he just say that flutters didn't live in flowers, but yet he'd see them. She tried to think more about what this bird was saying. "So they don't live in the flowers? Where do they live then?" She asked.
As she waited for a response, she lowered he head to look down among the flowers. She wouldn't dare eat one. Just the thought of a flutter possibly hiding in one. 'Uh!' she shuddered.
