The Chaser [ The Chaser: ] You wake up, and the first thing you see in your room is a shadow from the corner of your eye. You recognize them: a person, a creature perhaps, someone from your greatest fears, but there is something off about them, the colour washed away from their appearance, grey, as they get closer they talk to you in convoluted whispers that cause you to shake in terror as you reach one hand out - - Somehow you escape and meet up with your friends. You try to tell them something is after you but no-one believes you. They laugh it off. Slowly, during the course of the day, you watch them get killed, one by one, and even as you try to fight the assailant, seemingly invincible, off one last time, you realize that you are the only one who can see them. They make a gruesome spectacle of your last friend and slowly turn to you... you realize there is no escape. They whisper to you, perhaps words you understand, perhaps something nonsensical entirely, playing on your greatest fears and paranoia. At long last, you accept your fate, and just right before the pain escalates, you finally, truly wake up for real, but something grey shifts in the corner of your eye.

Amphi had slept peacefully for a night. It had steadily gotten better, and then some nights, she was plauged with nightmares, terrors.
Tonight was such a night for the little mermaid. She slept with her Levathia playing Guardian to her bed. Her Dorm, due to her request had shifted and formed into a room with a aquriaum surrounding it instead of it being a endless vast fish tank. Her legs entangled into the cool sheets of her actual bed as she fought, replayed the field trip in her head.
And she woke again, like she did any other day. A slow flutter of her eye's, as they rose. From her nightmare she saw it though, The shadow . There. Her body flung forward, reaching for the Levathia that made its bed next to her and holding it close as the shadow formed into something. A man? It looked like a man. A man in a white coat and slicked back hair. A white coat with a design. She moved back in her bed as the Levathia hissed, snorting a wisp of some kinda of flame when the shadowy figure reached out, pulling a wisp of her hair up. The scream rose in her throat as it whispered at her, leaned in close, ushering her. The Comet in her hand sprang up though, knocking the creature back enough for Amphi to crawl out of her bed and away.
She struck the door with a thud, grabbing the knob with a turn before taking off at full run. Her first thought, her only thought was to go to Thanatos. He'd keep her safe, He'd help her. He'd believe her!
Wouldn't He?
"Thana...Thana." She reached the Reaper dorms, the common room her first look before finding his room. Her hand banged on door in a quick but polite rapid succession of knocks. She waited a beat at the shuffle of something behind it and then the creak as it opened. Looking up into the red eyes of her friend, she breathed a sigh of relief and rushed into him.
"Well Amphi, Being quite the seductress today aren't you. On strike against clothes and throwing yourself at me all at the knock of the door." He sounded faintly amused with a small smirk on his face. Biskoto slithered up with a soft glide giving her reaper a stare before looking Amphi over.
"Amphi Darlingsss~ Are you Alright~?" The Snake head rose as Amphi choked on a sob before taking a breath.
"There was something, I don't know what it was. It was a man, maybe a hunter in my room. He was there and he was just whispering at me. He was all gray, like....But the whispering and...he touched me." She managed to get out, cluctching to the thick cover of Thana's Jacket. "I saw him, in my room and I escape...we have to tell someone....The teachers?" She pulled back.
Thana on the other hand was exchanging a bemused expression with Biskoto and took Amphi's hands in his, gently pushing them away from their death grip on his clothing before a soft chuckle emitted. "Are you sure you just didn't have a nightmare Amphi?" He leaned down to whisper in her ear, teasing. "Are did you use that as an excuse to see me?~"
Amphi pulled back, shock and a flush on her cheeks before she pulled her hands out of his. "I'm being serious Thanatos! There was...something in my room! And it...It tried to attack me!"
"Sure Sure~" He waved as Biskoto started to slither up his leg to his shoulders.
"Perhapssss it wasss jussst a Dream Amphi Darling~" Biskoto seemed only slightly worried as well, curling around Thana's shoulder with a smile. If a snake could smile.
"No...I really..." Amphi blinked as the tears stung at her eyes. Why wasn't he listening to her! "I'm telling the truth. It was...*sniff* real-" She turned on her heel, rushing out of his room and away. Why didn't he believe her!
She kept running, tears falling behind her because of the stupid Moira Reaper. It was hard though, and in the end how could she blame him for not believing her. She could hardly believe it herself. But did he think she a liar? One that would make up lies to...just come and see him? She flushed amongist her tears and her pace slowed, stopping completely as she stood outside the demon dorms instead now.
Lizzy and Xiu were in there, they'd understand. They would believe her no matter what. She wiped her tears as she entered, following the path to Xiu's room. Lucky enough for Amphi though, The Baku demoness and Spider demoness were together enjoying a cup of tea and snacks.
Amphi wondered if she could even ruin such a moment, especially with how Thana acted when Xiu looked up and noticed her. Concern immediatly flooded the Baku's pretty features as she got up and pulled Amphi in.
"Amphi! Look at you!" Xiu gestured for Lizzy to bring a throw over and wrapped the blanket around the Mermaid.
hiccuping, Amphi gave "I am so sorry to bother you but I didn't know where else after-"
Lizzy tsked at the mermaid and then sighed, pulling her to sit down. "Xiu will you bring a warm cup of tea and we'll hear why you are so troubled..." Amphi only nodded before sniffing, tucking the throw closer around her. As the tea brewed, her friends exchanged worried glances.
"Here you go Amphi. Tell us what happened." Xiu held out the cup of tea, a soft lavender smell that calmed the Mermaid as she replayed all that had happened until now.
"And Thana didn't believe me-" Amphi blinked as Xiu and Lizzy exchanged glances again.
"And your sure it was real Amphi?" Xiu folded her hands in her lap, smiling gently at her. Why was she smiling!?!? Why weren't they getting the teachers or....
"Yes!" Amphi stood up, staring at the two. "You don't believe me either!?!?"
"It's not that we don't believe you Amphi its just...." Lizzy paused thinking of the right words to say, "It's just impossible for the hunters to come to our schools don't you think? And to just play with your hair and whisper at you? That's just silly Amphi." The demoness gave a pity smile at Amphi before waving her hand, "Maybe you should just stay here and sleep it off. Since that field trip...All of you guys have had nightmares...." Lizzy led off as Amphi just stared.
"I see. Perhaps it was-" Amphi rubbed her cheeks, wiping the tears that had started up again. Why...just why wouldn't any of her friends believe her?
"I'll just go back to my room." Amphi said flatly, taking the blanket off and handing it to the Baku. "Thank you for the Tea Xiu, Lizzy. Sorry to-" As she turned to leave though, he was there. The figure, the man in that graying white coat. Amphi stared, frozen as he came over....passing by her with a gentle touch again to her hair.
"Amphi are you okay?" Xiu asked again, "Are you sure you don't want to-" The demoness's words broke off as the figure's hand phased through Xiu's body, through her chest to where her heart was. It looked at Amphi, whispering to her as it turned its hands.
"No...." Xiu clutched over, her hands coming up to her chest to press to the man's hand where he held her heart. "I don't...feel so well now." She was paling so quickly, as Amphi continued to stare shell shocked.
"Xiu? Xiu?" Lizzy reached out to catch the baku as she fell, the shadows's hand returned to its side. Didn't they see him? Didn't they-
"Amphi...Amphi, Xiu isn't breathing! AMPHI." Lizzy was shaking Amphi now as she watched the man.
"He's here Lizzy. He killed her, Can't you seem him? Run away." Amphi pushed her friend out, looking at the lifeless body of Xiu. "Go, he's right there, he's right there!"
"Who? WHO IS THERE AMPHI??" Lizzy moved only as Amphi pushed her. "Didn't you hear me! Xiu is...." Lizzy's voice stopped as she coughed, her breath coming in wheezes. "What...What's happening to me? I can't...breathe..." Lizzy wheezed again as she fell to her knee's. Amphi held her shoulders, patting her back to help her. But nothing. And then Lizzy wasn't breathing anymore.
"You...." She stared up at the shadow as he took a step towards her, and another. Pushing back. She sobbed as she threw whatever was nearby, turning to crawl. Once free of the Demon dorms, she hit dead run again. Returning the way she came.
"Taking runs around the school now as well Amphi? And here I thought Mermaids were swimmers not short distance sprinters." She looked over at the bored tone of Thana and stiffened. "I came to find you since you seemed geniuely upset." He sighed, looking her over. "What's wrong with you?" He blinked.
"He killed them. He killed Xiu and Lizzy-" Amphi shook. "I couldn't save them, I couldn't help them!" She turned back around, looking at the demon dorms. "Thanatos, they didn't see him. I think I was the only one...but he killed them and I don't know how."
She was met with silence. Ready to face a snide remark, or crude grin from him, she turned only to meet with something worst. Biskoto laid in severed pieces around the moira reaper who was being held up by the shadowy figure. Her hand went to her mouth as she reached out to the snake.
"Biskoto...No please don't...." She screamed as the thing grinned, ripping Thana's head from his body and dropping it neatly on the ground. With the shock and overwhelming fear, Amphi dropped to her knee's staring at the lifeless form of Thana.
And then the Shadow descended on her, bringing her into a hug that suffocated her. Claws dug into her back as it leaned into to whisper in her ear. It was there, playing on her. Playing her weakness in the form of a man as its hug got tighter, its claws deeper.
And in that moment, Amphi accepted it. Accepted the inevitable as she wrapped her arms around the shadow in return. Thana...Lizzy and Xiu. She would join them soon.
The pain built like a sultry sensation in her, and when she felt that last moment of breath escape from her....
She woke up. Her eyes breaking open with a gasp in her bed. "....Night....Mare?" She pushed herself up. Her same Levathia relaxing next to her as moonlight water's danced overhead from her aquarium. Pulling the bedspread closer, she took a deep breath. She almost closed her eyes when she saw the shift of shadow in her room.
