Time.

Time passes, people change. Youkai change, too. 100 years have passed since the Incident involving Ibara and those she loved. As for the outcome, well, we'll save that for another tale. No...today, our tale begins with a certain Mirror Youkai, one Sabitsuki Kaibutsu.

In her younger years, she attended Keine's school, like many other human and Youkai children. After graduating, she decided she would live among the denizens of the Underground, so she could be close to her mentor and 'big sister', Yasashii Ikou. Many years have passed since those days, and little Sabitsuki, while still young in terms of Youkai, has matured well into the beginnings of adulthood. Living in the Underground helped to combat her fear of darkness, although prolonged exposure would still frighten her. To help with this, Yasashii forged a heavy, iron oil lamp and gave it to Sabitsuki as a gift, one the Mirror Youkai cherished above all else.

She carried the lamp everywhere, and even took it to her bedroom before she slept, where she would place it on the window sill. Countless days and nights passed without any reason to fear this habit, but one day, Sabitsuki awoke to find her prized Lantern.... MISSING!

~ ~ ~

"Where is it? Where is it?! Oh no, oh no!" Sabitsuki cried out in alarm, throwing the wooden slats on the window aside, nearly breaking them off their hinges. Panic flooded her mind as she peered out the second-story window of her home, looking around the alley way below for any sign of the iron lantern. She quickly returned inside and dressed herself properly; a white, flowing and sleeveless dress and a large red shawl wrapped around her shoulders, matching in color to a headband already in her short, messy white hair. She thought nothing of running out the door barefoot, having accustomed herself to walking along the warm, jagged stones that made up the Underground's expansive floor with her toughened skin.

"Where could it have gone? Who took it?!" she spoke aloud to herself, as there was nobody else to voice her concerns to in the small, dark alley. Fear and anxiety welled up inside her as she searched frantically for any sign of her treasured item.

She had followed this young girl for quite a while, well, like she followed many! She was indeed someone to beware of. But today she planned something special, it was time to lure someone into her her home...if one could call it that.

She had perrched on one of the underground's homes, but silently this shadow came down, taking along the oil lamp. Carefully, she made shre to make noise with it, specially for dear Sabitsuki.

Clang. The noise sounded not to far.
Clang. Had Sabitsuki made the turn, she would a hooded fogure with her lamp make a turn of its own.
Clang. Away from the main population now, the lamp burned bright ahead of the Mirror Youkai.
Clang. Was that a bridge? It's red rails seemed crawled with vines. The water below was silent yet, desperately dark. The brown wood was creaky yet sturdy. Was this an illusion?
Clang. Past the bridge, laid a shrine like structure. Fade paint that once was bright red with beatiful golden ornaments, all now but a run down building.... The bright lamp and its figure went inside!
Clang.KLUNK. Inside the lamp lit the main room. Indeed it was a shrine, a run down one, but despite being musty and creaky, it was unusually tidy....

The lamp was in the empty room, ligthing the red pillars that held up the building, the glow erradiating ominously off the still mild golden engravings of them... Was someone lurking the shadows?!

"Y-you! Hey, get back here!!" Sabitsuki screamed at the thief, giving chase through the city. She followed as quickly as her feet could carry her, but the figure was faster, and closing the distance between them seemed impossible. The thief was careless, knocking the lantern around and causing a ruckus as they ran, each strike sending a wave of anger through Sabitsuki's senses.

She followed the thief away from the city, and over a bridge not unlike the one that was guarded by a certain Hashihime, though disturbingly foreign and decrepit. The thief ran into a desolate shrine, seemingly guiding Sabitsuki with her own lantern's light, and disappeared inside. Seconds later, Sabitsuki herself burst through the shrine's doorway. She took a moment to catch her breath. Her lunges threatened to burst, and her legs ached. She placed a hand against her heaving chest, and tried to regain control of her breathing.

A pang of fear shot through her when she realized the shrine was completely empty, and completely dark, save for the glow emanating from her lantern. Swallowing her anxiety, she took careful, deliberate steps towards her lamp, comforted by its warm glow. She felt like she was being watched, but that didn't matter. All that mattered was retrieving her treasured lantern... Closer and closer, she reached out for the lantern, wrapping her slender fingers around the broad iron handle riveted to its top. Relief washed over her. She picked the lantern up and turned back towards the door, forgetting she had just given chase to someone moments before....

Sabitsuki turned around right into who she was chasing. Taking advantage of how the lantern obly ligthed a certain area, the culprit's wings where spread out..."BOO~"

Where The mirror Youkai to flinch she would miss the figure darting away like wind, giggling gleefully at her new toy.

"My, my, that was too easy~" The voice said mockingly from the dark,"Where I planning something bad, you would be looooong gone." another giggle, her voice filled with sarcasm and joy.

"Such a beatiful young youkai," the compliment seemed as if part of a game, and from a diffrent place,"I am jealous~"

"So,tell me," Once more, the voice came from somewhere else,"How is it you manage to not coil up in a tiny ball inside my home~? it is quite dark you aee, and at time almost impossible to distinguish this from that."

"You don't mind it, do you, my dear little guest~?" A shrill and gleeful laugh. Someone was playing a game, even if Sabitsuki wasn't.

Sabitsuki gasped upon coming face-to-face with the thief, recoiling backwards with her lantern, casting its glow away and allowing the figure to escape her view. She spun in place, swaying her lantern back and forth, cutting swathes in the darkness in an attempt to find the source of the voice. Was it the architecture? Her own disorientation? The voice seemed to come from different angles with each passing moment and echoed off the walls (assuming there were walls here - with the darkness, Sabitsuki couldn't be sure), adding further confusion.

"Jealous? But I'm..not beau..." Sabitsuki tugged at her shawl, pulling it slightly tighter around her shoulders. "Who are you? Are you a Youkai?" She turned again, eyes darting around. "W-why would I mind? It's just a..a few shadows!" She furrowed her brow, attempting to display an air of feigned confidence. "And besides, i-if you're using the shadows to hide, that means you're cowardly and...and probably weak!"

Her fingers groped the side of the lantern, feeling for a knob along its casing. Touching it, she twisted the knob a little, sending more oil into the flickering flame within. The fire brightened, casting its warm glow further around her and deeper into the room.
PostPosted: Tue May 08, 2012 3:17 pm

"Ahaha, your heart swims with fear doesn't it?" The voice said once more, carefully observing Sabitsuki's desperate swipes in the dark. "Ah, I am well A Youkai! If I wasn't I would be a human, and i am far above that!"

The thief saw as Sabitsuki begun to look for the knob to put more light into the room. "I am not usig the shadows, how naive of you to think I am hiding when i brought you here!"

A mocking laugh, but as the light showered onto the pillars, they where alone. From Above, on one of the beams sat the culprit. Her legs swinging carelessly, her red cape flowing. She was sitting quit amused, her perfect calculations of the light allowed her legs and lower body (up to her bust) to be visible. Since her cape was thrown back, the tatto like markings on her left arm and shoulder where visible, along with those that peeked to above her cleaved dress. Her face though remained hidden.

"What a pretty lamp." She snickered.

The light poured into the room, revealing...nothing. For a split second, Sabitsuki questioned her sanity, when out of the corner of her eye she saw something move. Something...kicking. Sabitsuki looked up to see the figure high above her, still partially concealed in shadow. She hesitated at the thief's shrewd retorts, followed by a half-hearted compliment.

"My..my big sis gave this to me!" She wrapped her free hand around the lantern, almost pulling it into a hug; it was warm to the touch, but the thick, sturdy casing prevented it from burning her. Oni aren't known for their subtlety, but their constructs, while crude, did their job quite well. "If you touch it again, I'll...you'll regret it!"

Her legs wanted to move, to leave this place and this...this demon behind, but her curiosity got the better of her, and perhaps, just perhaps, she wanted to get back at the thief for taking her beloved lantern. "Who... Who. Are. You?!" She nearly screamed at the figure, stifling a mixture of anger and fear that welled up inside her.

The figure snickered,"You sister? You mean to say the big log of an oni? Doesn't she have rather stout horns? Ah, not the point, not the point." She shook her head snickering. She saw how Sabitsuki almost hugged the la p."Ahaha, those oni are loud and rude, but they make sturdy things. Ke, it annoys me that they are always drop down drunk." The last part she almost growled, but she sighed once more. "Where they more diligent then maybe they could do something right."

She jumped down from the beam when asked who she was. "Mh, finally you ask something worth answering!" She landed silently, the cape landing on her shoulders once more, covering most of herself. "My name has been erased by history I am afraid, and few call my name." She smiled with a mixture of a sheepish yet oddly self content expression. She shamelessly admitted to likeing the fame she had it seemed. "But, for comfort's sake, how about you call me Livid, as the few do?"

"Yes, Livid will do nicely, a name worthy of the emboidement of sin itself,"The woman gave a boastul laugh. "And you, little lamb? I much rather your formally introduce yourself than I place you name on the table~"

"L...Livid...?" Sabitsuki repeated, holding the lantern between herself and the thief, as if it were a shield to protect her. Livid's verbal assault on Oni integrity threatened to enrage the Mirror Youkai, but she forced herself to keep her composure.

She backed up a few steps, intimidated by the air of confidence the strange Youkai carried, as did the hint of malicious intent behind her words. "My name...is Sabitsuki...Sabitsuki Kaibutsu! I am a Mirror Youkai! I..I can return whatever you throw at me tenfold!" she lied in an attempt to intimidate Livid. In truth, her Doppelanger powers didn't even allow her to completely emulate her Host's true power, but that didn't stop her from using a stronger form to combat a lesser one.

"If you do something to me," she added, backing up another step, "My big sis will hunt you down and...and kill you!"

"Oohohoho I am truly frigthened!" She said sarcastically, bringing a hand to comb back some of her hair. "What a threath!"

"Your drop down drunk sister?" Livid felt be spike of Wrath in the mirror youkak when she spoke of the oni,"I bet she is too busy drinking and being uncouncious to come and help you. She has things to drink, people to beat all the worthless stuff Oni do, you know~?"

"MHM~~?" The demon took a step closer, looking curious,"A mirror Youkai you say~? i wonder what you would mimick of me? It bet it would be amusing. Too bad there is only one shadow: the one made by your lantern." The caped figured pointed to the lamp. "Even if you get behind me, my shadow will be thrown foward: for the light source would be behind me at that point."

"If you make threaths. Make sure they are worth my time."

"Why...would I want to copy a being as disgusting as you?!"

That was it. Livid's cruel words pushed her over the edge. Sabitsuki set her lantern on the ground, before her body flashed a blinding white. Her silhouette grew in size and changed shape, gaining a pair of horns and much longer hair.

"We'll see how worthless you think Oni are when I'm through with you!!" Sabitsuki, taking on the form of her beloved big sister, charged forward, bounding over her lantern and ready to bring a clenched fist down on Livid.
PostPosted: Wed May 09, 2012 5:29 pm

For the sligthest second Livid blinked, then grinned, amused, showing her rather sharp teeth."My." The charging figure did little to abash her.

She jumped back two steps, before flipping back and using one of the pillars as a rebound base, easily landing behind Sabitsuki." That is a very nice trick," And certainly unexpected. Figthing an Oni was something the demon had not done in the longest time, with ancient skill, Livid spun on her toes facing the copy of Yasashii. Reaching, she unbuckled the cape sheding it and pushing it to the side.

Livid extended the long wings, batish in appearance with a black pattern similar to the one on her arm. At her upperarms there was shackles with ancient engravings, but more impressive where the intricate tattos that stained from the left base of her neck to the back of her corresponding arm. "Your anger is quite satisfying," She cackled,"its amusing you jumped at me so quickly~"

Sabitsuki's fist bludgeoned the ground where Livid once stood, and then her other fist struck the pillar, trying to hit the sinful Youkai as she moved. Splinters of wood were sent flying into the air as the Psuedo-Oni's blows connected with the ancient wooden structure. Her knuckles throbbed and ached; despite having the sturdy Oni body, Sabitsuki's own extremities felt the abuse.

She spun around to face Livid as she discarded her cape, Yasashii's visage twisted with anger. "Shut up, worm!! Showing off your wings won't save you!" Digging her claws into the floor, Sabitsuki tore out a large, wooden plank and threw it at Livid, wincing slightly as she did.
PostPosted: Wed May 09, 2012 7:11 pm

Livid observed as Sabitsuki flinched. It seemed her body was not made for hard impacts. Upon seeing her shrine being torn like that, it was the demon's turn to get angered. Spiked by this, she used her wings to graze the plank, and dash in for a punch to Sabitsuki's stomach.

Where she to connect her hit, the Sinful Youkai would take the cance to dig her claws into her and snarl a warning,"Hurt another splinter, and I will rip a pillar to stake you to the floor, brat."

She was kick, but it was obvious than when Angry she was ruthless and more insticnt driven.

Sabitsuki gasped and coughed up blood, doubling over in Livid's grasp. Her body flashed white, and her silhouette reduced to her original size, losing her horns and other additional features. It had been a long time since she had fought anyone, and the sudden trauma from the blow was a shock to her system.

She grasped Livid's wrist with both hands, attempting to pry the demon's hand from her stomach. However, the pain was too much. She whimpered and buried her head against Livid's shoulder to hide the tears welling up in her eyes. "Why did..you lure me here..?" she asked in a whisper, trying to hide the pain and emotion in her distressed voice. "What do you want from me?"
