Alnitak made her way from her den, a slight smirk upon her may. She had finally become pregnant and now carried within her a litter of pups. Now she searched the pack’s inner lands, looking specifically for the Baraza Alnilam. Oh how she would rub this in her face, that she would be having children before the purple wild dog. Obviously this meant she was the better leader, that her genes were better, and she was going to make sure the other female knew it.

Dark eyes looked over the inner dens' walls, her eyes carefully reading over the constellations etched into the walls. A sigh left her muzzle as she counted how many of them belongs to deceased pack members. Alnilam sat, her rump against the other side of the walls and her front paws crossed. It had been what felt like ever since she had drawn her own constellation into those same walls, her bear. What a journey that had been discovering it. With so few new members though, one could only hope more star formations would join the old soon enough. The female wild dog's ears fell back at the thought of how small the pack had truly become. How fragile it was.

The search for the other leader did not take long. Alnitak spotted the purple female within another part of the dens, an area with walls covered in the constellations of past and current members of their pack. The red female walked slowly within the den, her eyes scanning the walls for the constellation that was her own. Golden eyes fell upon it, a raven with wings and claws out-stretched. A grin spread across her maw as she turned from the wall to face Alnilam. "Hello, Baraza Alnilam." She spoke. One could just hear the superiority in her voice, as if she were gloating about something.

Alnitak made her way closer to the other female, coming to stand a few feet from her before turning to face the wall upon which both of their constellations were etched. "The pack will be getting bigger soon." Was all she said, the same tone as before still quite evident in her voice.

Her head turned to the side as she was addressed by one of the other leaders of the pack. She dipped her head in greeting as she replied, "Good evening, Baraza Alnitak." Alnilam's voice was steady, not taking any offense to the tone in the blood-red pelted female. Her ears came forward though at the Alnitak's final statement. The pack would be getting bigger? Had she recruited more wild dogs for the pack? No, Alnilam would have been informed of their joining sooner than this and they would be new blood, and would thin the current blood. Something Alnitak seemed to appreciate too much. There was only one other thing. "Congratulations." Came as the reply.

“So,” Alnitak started, her golden gaze turning upon the other leader. “No luck on your part? Quite a shame really.” The tone was condescending, as if she were implying with those words that Alnilam had failed in some way. “Quite unfortunate, especially with the pack in such dire need of more blood.” The tone had turned to one of mock concern. She was enjoying this far more than perhaps she should have, but with the leadership split as it was she felt she had some upper paw in this matter, that she had finally done something for the pack that Alnilam had thus far been unable to do.

"I'm waiting for stronger blood then what I have been offered." Alnilam replied, her eyes narrowing slightly towards the pompous red-pelted female. "It seems you settled very quickly on who you took to your den." This was something that a good number of the pack members did not see: the political struggle between Alnilam and Alnitak. Without a current third member, the Baraza were imbalanced with only two member. This caused a good amount of tension between the two. Not only that, but Alnitak was a war-hero while Alnilam was actually related to a long line of Baraza. "I hope the gods bless your pups with more then just one winter though. The pack does needs blood, even if it is your's."

Alnitak huffed lightly at the other Baraza's words. Normally they would have bothered her far more than this, but she felt far too good at the moment to let them raise her ire. "I go not settle, dear Alnilam. I found strength were I could, and I shall make sure the resulting pups are strong enough to protect the pack in the future." It was indeed quite a bit of butting heads between the two females. She felt the pack had been done wrong by staying, that weak blood would eventually be their downfall. That she would kill to avoid. This was her pack, and she would not see it fall to the weakness of others.

The litter she would raise would surely help in this cause. Her blood was strong, and so theirs would be. It may not have been much, but she was at least able to give something to the pack to help them become strong once again. "The pack certainly needs more blood, and at least one of us is able to fulfill this need. My pups will survive, worry not, though I will thank you for the blessing."

A small smirk appeared on Alnilam's maw at the sound of what seemed to be something like frustration coming from the other Baraza. No matter what Alnitak said, she would truly believe that the other had settled for a mate rather then wait, test them and make sure they were up to a good enough par to continue on their family line. The starry-pelted female stared back at her, her voice calmer, more collected now. "I take it you came to gloat that you are to bear pups before I then? If so, take your boasting elsewhere for I have no desire to hear your voice any longer."

The other female acted quite calmly, though se was sure she had struck some nerve, however small. This may not have been the case, but the bloody-pelted female still felt her goal had been accomplished to some extent. Alnitak was surely the better of the two, and because of this she would bear a strong litter that would reinforce the thinned pack. “I shall leave you then to your thoughts.” Her voice was calmer, closer to the normal, colder tone she normally kept, though the hint of gloating could still be heard within it.

The red Baraza stood and turned, making her way out of the den.

With what most would consider a defeated look, the purple female let her head come to rest on her forelegs' paws. Perhaps the more brutal of the two was right. Blood didn't matter quite as much as it used to considering the state of the pack. Settling was becoming a norm and it was more how the pups were raised that made them strong rather then the blood of their parents. It was something to think on at least as she was once again left to the quiet solitude of the constellations.
