Name: Zephyr

Age: 738

Biography: Zeph's story isn't really an interesting one, not the first part of it anyway. He was born during hard times, another mouth to feed wasn't something his parents could afford...not for long anyway. As a young boy he would help his mother clean the house, cook, and do whatever else was needed of him. He even learned how to do things like sowing. Such was his life for the first few years of his existence and he was perfectly happy with it. As we all know, and as Zephyr soon found out, happiness can't last forever.

At age six he was sold into slavery by his parents. His first Master was extremely strict and more than willing to dole out punishment on anyone who did not abide by his rules. Whether they knew the rules or not didn't matter to the man, in fact sometimes he would just make up new ones as an excuse. Many the Master's female, and even some of the male, slaves grew fond of Zeph, treating him as either a brother or a son. They would teach him all of the known rules, how to avoid their Master unless it was absolutely necessary he be there and ways to appease the Master should he find himself in a situation that called for it. There were even those that would take the punishment in his place. He was spared many beatings thanks to them, they couldn't protect him from everything though...Or maybe it was because this was something one wouldn't think to protect another from. Because of it he was beaten and left to die on the street. That's when he was found by the man who would forever change his life.

He was eighteen at the time, or thereabouts. It was a bright, starry night, the night he was changed. He had been beaten and cast out of his Master's house, a broken arm and several cracked ribs were among the least of his injuries. About an hour after this, maybe longer, he wasn't really paying attention to time, a cloaked figure came up, crouched beside him, and grinned. The last thing he remembers before falling into unconsciousness is the glint of fangs in the moonlight.

He awoke the next night and was, much to his surprise, fully healed. As his senses returned, Zeph also realized he was in a dimly lit room, laying on a bed...an extremely decorative, soft bed...and there was a man watching him, lovely. After a very awkward meeting, he learned that the man had saved him...by turning him into a Nightwalker, a vampire. This, coincidentally, also made him the man's servant until such a time as his sire decided to release him. Things were just getting better and better for him, weren't they? Ah well, at least he wasn't dead. He was thirsty though and it was when they were about to head out to find him a meal that Zephyr learned something else.

For whatever reason his body had taken to the change quite well, in all aspects but one that is. Unlike all other vampires, it was the absence of light that burned him. After several 'tests' by his sire, and much pain on his part, they found a cycle in which he could go out at night. Such was only possible when the moon was at, or near, it's brightest. The sun did him no harm at all, really he could live just like a normal human. Though this did make it harder for him to find 'meals' and he had to learn to sleep with lights on. Another century or so later, Zephyr discovered he now possessed control over an element, wind. He and his sire had parted ways shortly before this and the man decided to change his name after learning this new piece of information about himself. This would be his new beginning, from now on his life would belong to him.

Personality: If you are kind then Zephyr will usually show kindness in return. He does have a temper though, so it is best not to push his buttons. He is by no means a pushover and will resort to punishment if those under him disobey. Zeph can be a sadist at times, though it is on rare occasions. He is secretive about the early years of his past, especially those before his change. He won't sugarcoat things either. It doesn't matter to him if you are young or old, male or female. If he doesn't like you you'll know. If he thinks you are weak or an idiot, you'll know. If you get on his nerves he'll tell you to get out of his face. And if you try to give him any of that 'life is wonderful' stuff he'll bite your head off.

Abilities/Powers: The usual of a normal vampire; superhuman speed, strength and senses. He also possesses control over wind and can erase up to the last twenty-four hours of a person's memory.

My Current Pets: None Yet

Before she knew it, she had arrived at someones door. Looking up she noticed the name plate read; "Zephyr" 'Hmmm...' She thought to herself. There must have been some reason why she felt drawn to this door. Maybe someone would be within that she could speak to. Reaching a petite hand forward, she gave a gentle knock to wait and see what would happen.

The male rested lazily ont the couch in his sitting room, an open book face down upon his chest. He wasn't sleeping like any normal vampire would have been though. Neither was he a 'normal' vampire. Yes, he needed blood just as much as the next night-walker, possessed all of the enhanced senses and strengths too. The difference between him and any other was that he could go out in the sunlight unharmed. Yet it was in the absence of light that his body would start to burn, a truly curious thing indeed, Even his sire had not been able to figure out what caused such an anomaly.

So, here he was, living on the schedule humans, awake during the day and asleep at night. Always in some sort of light though. That had taken some time for him to adjust to, sleeping in a bright room. His eyes slipped shut for the barest fraction of a second as he began to reminisce. His life hadn't been a great one, but it was his none the less. Now that he had his freedom, or some resemblance of it, he was enjoying life just a bit more.

Bright green eyes were revealed when his eyelids shot open. Gentle as it had been, he had heard the knock loud and clear. Raising himself to a sitting position, the male picked up his book and closed it then set it on the coffee table before standing and walking towards the door. He had yet to 'claim' anyone yet, so who could this be? Slightly curious, the male opened the door to see who had come to call on him. Glowing green eyes shifted downward to look at the female before him.
"Is there something I can do for you?"

She looked up at him, his piercing green eyes catching her attention immediately. Not to mention his devilishly good looks. She felt attracted to him for some reason and figured this must be why her senses brought her here. Her own violet orbs looked back at him. Blinking slowly a few times, she smiled and spoke softly.

"I hope I'm not bothering you. But, as I was wandering the castle I felt drawn here for some reason and so decided to knock on your door. It may seem odd, and for that I'm sorry. I can go if you like."

He arched on brow at her words but let the girl finish speaking before he opened his mouth. This was the first time someone had ever said such a thing to him. He had no problem speaking with her though and, so, opened the door wide enough for her to enter. "No, you're not bothering me at the moment. I have only just arrived and finished getting everything into place. You may come in if you would like." Zephyr said, backing up slightly from the door as he spoke. He grinned slightly at her, a half smile really. That was probably the best she would get out of him for now. She was the first person he had met since arriving...well, the first who hadn't seemed afraid to speak with him. Given, Zeph had been a bit irritable upon his arrival but he wasn't anymore. Not right now at least.

She watched his facial expression passively not thinking anything of it. She couldn't know as of yet what those small gestures meant coming from him. So, pushing that aside, she listened to him speak again. Even his voice was enticing. She nodded at his invitation and smiled softly then spoke;

"I'd love to come in. I've been here two days now and I've not found anyone that to speak to or be close to. Oh.... Your room is so... beautiful... It's dark but soothing somehow..."

She looked around in awe at how gorgeous his room was. She didn't go much further than a few steps into the room and start looking around as that would have been rude. No, rather she stayed put and waited for him to give the next indication of what he felt comfortable with her doing in his space.

The male closed his door behind her, listening as she spoke and moving to stand beside her. A low chuckle parted his lips at her comment about his sitting room. "Thank you, it is about the only darkness I will ever see." Perhaps that's why he had picked it, or maybe it was because he didn't like bright, cheery things. For the latter would bring up oold memories, ones he would rather leave forgotten. He began to walk past the female and motioned for her to join him then took a seat on the couch. "Come, sit down, I hardly think you would want to stand there the whole time." Zephyr said to her. The seat beside him was free as was the armchair. In fact, there was very little clutter in the room, save for the book he had been reading. "So, is there anything in particular you would like to talk about...? Oh, my name is Zephyr by the way." Zeph said to Tashihara, he wasn't used to introducing himself to people and she probably knew his name because of the plaque but he had decided to tell her none-the-less, perhaps to coax her into to telling him her own name.

She heard the door close gently behind her, and then felt his presence beside her. She swallowed quietly hoping that he wouldn't notice. She felt as attracted to him as she had to Deveraux and Lex at the ballroom party and she couldn't understand why. And his voice was mesmerizing as well. He had walked past her and motioned for her to sit with him. Thinking that it would be safer at present to sit in the armchair as she didn't know him and what he was capable of, she choose to cross to it and sit down and thanked him for the offer of a seat. When he asked if there was anything in particular that she wished to speak about she wasn't sure. She felt a bit silly now that she had suddenly stopped at his door and really had no reason to be here. Perhaps she should ask about the book he was reading and they could start a conversation from there? Yes, that's what she would do. Then he told her his name. Zephyr... What a beautifully different name.... Yes, she liked it. Liked it quite a bit. Now it was her turn to speak. Softly she did so looking into his piercing green eyes.

"Thank you for offering me a seat. No, I... Honestly don't have anything in particular that I wished to speak to you about... But, if you don't mind my asking, what book are you reading Zephyr? My name is Tashihara by the way. It's very nice to meet you."

Zephyr watched the girl as she walked over to the armchair. Her movements were graceful, more so than a normal human's would be... He inclined his head to acknowledge her thanks and listened in silence as she spoke. All the while he was observing her. but making sure to be discreet in doing so. She was a submissive, a slave or 'pet' as the people in this castle called them. He knew that just based on her mannerisms, the way she held her and the way she spoke. He knew it because he had been one and knew signs to watch for that differentiated between master and slave.

At first this girl gave off the impression that she was meek, but Tashihara possessed the courage to look him in the eye when she spoke to him which told him something more about her character. She was not some frail, delicate thing. No, Tashihara was gentle, but he sensed a strength about her. Provided his intuition was correct, that would be a good thing. He was in search of a pet after all. Zephyr didn't want someone he would have to take care of though. He wanted someone who could help him out with tasks such as cleaning the floors or organizing his things. Probably someone he could use for an occasional feeding as well, if that were possible...

"It is a nice to meet you as well Tashihara," He lifted the book from the table to show it to her. "It's called Skin, I've only just started reading it though. You may have a look if you'd like to." Zephyr held the hardcover out to her for if she wished to look at it. Most of the literature he owned was about vampires, he owned nearly every story you could find on one. It had been more for research than anything else, he was looking for some clue as to why he was so different from the rest of his blood-sucking brethren, His search had been fruitless thus far though. The book Tashihara had inquired about was a very recent addition to his collection.

She was somewhat aware of the fact that he was observing her, but she didn't let it bother her. She had nothing to hide. She took the book when he offered it to her and looked over the front and back. She then opened it to read what it was about on the inside cover. It went to the back and she turned to the back inside cover and finished reading it. It seemed interesting enough if you liked books about murder and mystery. It wasn't something that really caught her fancy. She tended to like text books of sorts that could teach her new things or fantasy novels as it taught her how to have an imagination.
Not wanting to be rude, she closed the book and smiled at him as she gently handed it back.

"It looks interesting enough Sir. Although murder and mystery really aren't my forte. I much prefer text books to learn from or fantasy to help me improve my imagination. Do you have any other books? That is, if you wouldn't mind sharing them with me."

When she offered the book back to him Zephyr took it and placed it on the clear glass table. He then leaned back into the chair, resting one hand in his lap and the other upon the couch's armrest. He easily noticed that the female called him 'sir' this time rather than by his name as she had before. Such was a small matter though, and one that didn't bother him in the slightest. Plus she didn't even belong to him, yet. He wasn't picky about what people called him usually. If he got into a bad mood then, unless someone were counted among those he deemed 'friends' or something higher, he wouldn't tolerate them calling him by anything else but 'Sir, 'Master,' or some similar title. The same thing was true for if you managed to get on his bad side, a fairly easy feat at times. He wasn't in any such mood nor had Tashihara done anything to put herself on his blacklist though.

He shrugged at her comment about the genre of the book. He wasn't particularly picky when it came to books, usually because he was more focused on finding the truth behind the words.
"The majority of my books are for research, this is one of the few that is not. I decided to take a little break from research and this happened to be the first book I picked up that wasn't related to my studies." He had actually found one book which mentioned a Daywalker such as himself, but the boy in that story had started out as a normal vampire. Nodding, the man rose from his seat and walked over to one of the shelves. It was only the top most shelf on any in this room which served as a resting place for his books, a portion of them anyway. Most were in a large chest in his bedroom, or on shelves in there.

"I keep a small portion of my collection over here." Zephyr said as he approached the small shelf above a cabinet. The tone of his words gave her an invitation to walk with him to the shelf. After reaching up to pull a few books off of the smooth, black bookcase he turned, half expecting her to be standing beside him. If she wasn't then he would simply walk back to the couch and place the small stack before her on the glass coffee-table. "Most of my collection is made up of books such as these." He said, rotating the stack, whether it be in his hands or on the table, to show her. Every single one of these books was about vampires. Bram Stoker's Dracula happened to be one of them. It was one of the very first books he had purchased. The next title was City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. There were several other titles, some even had the word 'vampire' in their title.

She nodded when he explained his reasoning behind reading the book. It mattered little to her. After all, he could read whatever books he liked. She wondered what kind of books for study that he had. Intrigued by this, she watched as he stood from the couch and walked over to the bookshelf above the cabinet in his room. His tone seemed to imply that she could follow if she liked and, being so intrigued, she decided to act on her instinct and do so. Standing quietly, she walked over a few seconds behind him to see what books that he had on display. She read the front and back covers of several of them and all of them seemed to have a reoccurring them of vampires for the main subject matter. She wondered why he would be studying such things. Perhaps he was one. Such things were not unheard of. With her long life span she had seen and heard of much. She'd seen a few vampires in passing, but had never taken the time or been fortunate enough to befriend one nor learn anything from one. If Zephyr was one, this could be a great opportunity for her. Slightly excited at the idea, she smiled and put the book she was looking at down. Now she had questions. Now she had something to talk to him about.

"These books look rather interesting. Is there any particular reason why you study vampires? And, if I may be so bold as to ask, are you one yourself?"

Zephyr wasn't sure exactly why he told her of his reasoning behind reading Skin. It wasn't like she had asked him, nor did he need to justify his reason for reading it to her. So, why had he...? He pushed these thoughts away for the moment, why should his reason for saying those things to her matter? It was simply what he had chosen to do, nothing more and nothing less. Brilliant green eyes watched the girl carefully as she read the book covers. He didn't care if she messed up one of the books, tore a page or whatever. Zephyr had had time to accumulate a vast amount of wealth over the last several centuries. He was, instead, watching for her reaction to the literature.

He noticed her smile almost instantly, but could only guess at the meaning behind it. He nodded in response to her words.
"I am indeed a vampire and, yes, there is a reason why I am studying my race. Knowing what I am, do you notice anything...out of the ordinary Tashihara?" Zephyr questioned the girl. It wasn't that he wasn't going to tell her, to put it simply this was a test. A test of her observational skills. It was so obvious once you took in his environment. A vampire in this sort of room? There was sunlight streaming in through the opened drapes, filling the room with light. He had even given her a clue when she had commented on this very room. This was his curse, his burden. It made him an anomaly among his own kind. This condition of his even made feeding hard. Yet he still didn't have a clue as to how or why it had happened.
