Jude was feeling a little bit squirrely this day as he stood in front of the array of dispensers that gave out this muck they called coffee. He was staring into his cup with a deep and troubled frown over his face. He wasn't sure what he just got but he was very certain that it wasn't coffee. It was some sort of dark muck posing as coffee. Jude did not approve of this.
'Absent minded' as he sometimes was he left his cup on the table and started to wander away from it, unfortunately the cup was sitting a bit close to the edge - the first sign of a squirrely Jude was apparently mischief afoot.
At least the coffee wasn't hot but one good bump would send the cup to the floor leaving someone with a mess to clean up.

It was muck but it was better than nothing. It gave Candace something to concentrate on instead of other things. Like men who gave her mixed signals out of nowhere. Seriously. Who does that? It was like dealing with a woman and she wasn't even trying to date one! Ugh! Movement in the corner of her eye made her look up from her reflection in the coffee cup to see what it was. It was Jude. He was abandoning his coffee."There're wannabe hipsters dying in Africa who'd give anything for that terrible cup of coffee, you know."

In the midst of walking away from his precariously placed cup he jolted almost guilty before he looked back and saw Candace. He turned around to face her his arms crossing over his chest, "Good. We need les wannabes in this world. You're either a hipster or you are not. The lyrics from the Offspring song are a lie. The world does not love nor need 'wannabes'."
Was he grinning a bit?
Maybe.
"Besides, why are they in Africa? Getting tans? Pssh. Tans are so over done," said the tanned wonder himself.

Candace snickered. Nice comeback, Jude. She grinned as he argued back about Africa, waving a hand and rolling her eyes. "So they can have been in Africa before it was cool. Duh." She gave Jude the 'how could you not know this?!' look. Because he was so uncool.
"Besides, everyone knows you don't get a tan. You have to be born with one or you're being a poser. God, Jude. You're such a fool."

"...Hate to break it to them but real hipsters been doin' that for a while now," he said with a bit of snort.
"Well, Maybelline, perhaps you hadn't gotten a good look at me but I am a Tanned God. Whether or not I was born with it doesn't matter because I pull it off like a goddamn pro." Jude was actually kind of enjoying the bullshitting banter between himself and Candace.

"Never claimed they were smart." Candace grinned, stirring the questionable coffee she was still debating on actually drinking or not. Maybe she'd settle on a bottle of water instead.
At the proclamation of being a Tanned God Candace raised a brow. "Certainly are Mister Modesty. And it's hard to get a good look at a man when he covers himself up." She pouted, cupping her chin in her hands and sighing. "That's cruel, Jude. For a god to keep himself hidden away."

"They should get smarter, they're embarrassing the real hipsters," Jude said in response.
At her reply he actually paused a little bit and stared at her it took him a moment before he responded, "I'd be too much for you to handle if you saw it all," he said now smirking, "and besides, what incentive do I have to show you what is under my uniform?"
That's right, Candace. Give him incentive.

What incentive..
Oh..oh Jude. Are you trying to call Candace on a bluff? She raised a brow, giving him that 'are you testing me?' look at first. Did he expect her to back down? Oh, no. You're silly, Jude. This is Candace Pennington. She doesn't make empty threats and she doesn't bluff. "You'd be dispelling those pesky rumors questioning what's in your pants. Not that I believe them, I'm not an idiot like some people." She smiled sweetly. "That is, if you're not too scared to show me where everyone can see."

He tilted his head a bit and then started to take off his cowl as he closed the distance between himself and Candace with a small smile on his lips, "Why, Candace, I am very surprised you want to see all of me. Surprised and honored," he idly draped the cowl around her shoulders and then left it there as he made as if he was about to slip off his uniform coat but then stopped.
"Yet..Something makes me wonder," he said thoughtfully, "as to why I would care what you think of me physically." He let out a small hum as the jacket rested about his elbows half on and half off, "You see if you aren't that dumb then ... that is fine. I think I can live without exposing myself to you. As for the others...."
He shrugged his coat back on, "

Candace blinked. He was taking off his cowl..really? Was he seriously going to do this? She kept the surprise off her face as he approached her, fixing the cowl so she was wearing it properly and watching him with a raised brow. "I'm surprised you're going along with it." She said with a grin, keeping herself as neutral as she could manage. It was hard, she'd had her hopes raised and then shattered just the other day by Jerry, and H was off somewhere. And there was no privacy for her to take care of herself.
Suffice to say, she was starting to get pent up. Not tipping the scales, but starting to get there.
He stopped and she blinked, adjusting the cowl so it framed her face...and shadowed it enough to hide her flushed cheeks. Was he seriously going to do it?
..Goddamnit!
Candace sighed, trying to keep it light and playful. "That's disappointing."

A part of him the most base part of him had awoken at this point. Primal and encouraging, 'Just look at her. She wants you. Do it, man. Do it before she changes her mind.'
It was the odd feeling of hot coals in his gut that he was not quite prepared to feel at least not in the presence of Candace.
{You should lisssten to yourself~. It could be a nice releassse.} Yom said with a smug tone.
Jude ignored both of them his expression still somewhat neutral but he was closing in on Candace once more as his arms moved to wrap around her murmuring a soft, "Here, let me improve the situation a little." At first the embrace was awkward and tense. It was obvious he didn't often just give hugs. The longer he maintained contact with Candace the more he relaxed and his head rested on her shoulders. The main purpose was to talk to her quietly so no one in the canteen could hear them a sort of sudden privacy between then as he carefully moved the cowl just enough to expose her ear so she could hear what he had to say just then.
It was difficult. She smelled nice. Very nice. Every single part of him just wanted to offer suggestions of possible private places they could go and just be alone but...
It wouldn't be fair to either of them.
"...Candace?" He said quietly as if testing to see if she could hear him, "I ... don't think we should do this much further before we both do something that would be ... emotionally unhappy for the both of us. I don't know if you noticed but I think we're getting a little carried away in this particular moment."
There was a pause as he smiled a little bit, "I just ...I don't want us both hurting more than we already are, hm?"
Perhaps if this had been some other place, he was a different person, and it was another time he wouldn't have even thought twice. Candace was smart, good to talk to, beautiful. All of these things but at the end he'd be the one with empty arms and she had her own romantic issues to attend to as well. Besides he seriously doubted he was her type but something in the air seemed to signal something about her to him. Not quite desperation but a sort of need in general.

The hug was not something she was expecting, and the words were...somewhat..familiar. Her heart skipped a beat, eyes wide and staring intently at her wringing hands on the table. Oh god, oh god, oh god. What was he doing. Oh god. He was hugging her. Why was he doing this? Why was he improving the situation there should be no improving of this they were in the middle of an open-spaced barracks that was shared by all of the surviving hunters on the island all of them there should be no--oh god he was moving the cowl back oh god what now what was he going to do. She tensed, holding her breath and keeping a death grip on her own hands. Her heart pounding wildly in her chest was so loud she could hear it in her own head. Oh god Jude. No. Don't do this. It wasn't that she didn't dislike you and could never want you but no not now not like this not here. This was not the time or place for--there was a voice in her ear oh god no not that. She shivered, biting down on her lip and closing her eyes. Voice in her ear voice in her ear at least he wasn't purring oh god why no please oh god.
...Oh. Oh that was why he was in her ear. He wanted to keep this quiet. Candace smiled, raising a hand to gently hold one of the arms that was hugging her and tilt her head to one side so her head was against his. "I did notice..thank you for putting an end to it before we both did something we might end up regretting later." She pat his hand and turned her head to press a kiss to the man's temple, smiling. "Thank you. Not that I wouldn't, but...I appreciate the restraint. Sorry if I've made you uncomfortable." Candace chuckled, leaning back against Jude and pulling the cowl down a little more to cover her face from onlookers. Not out of anything like shame, but to keep their conversation private between the two of them.

He'd noticed her tensing up but patiently just held onto her for the time being. For all anyone knew he was just hugging her and whispering all of the sweet nothings to her in the world and Jude honestly didn't care what others thought.
She kissed his temple and he blushed just a little bit despite not wanting to. He just couldn't help it sometimes. He rested his head on her shoulder for a brief moment with a small smile as he listened to her and then after she spoke he gave a small laugh, "I'm ... lonely," he admitted to her quietly, "but I don't think going any further would make that go away for longer than a brief moment. Afterward you'd move on and..."
Jude shrugged his shoulders as he moved to pull away, "I would still be alone. I don't even know what all you have going on but I doubt that it'd end with you being alone," he smiled slightly. Then he mentally cursed at himself for being that sad mental case.
"..Wanna come hang out with me and play around with this magnetic poetry stuff that I dragged out of my room during a dorm clearing run?" Jude asked seeking to change topics now.

He was lonely? But didn't he have that group of friends? Odd. Candace frowned and reached up to play with a bit of Jude's hair, idly twirling it around her finger. Any physical contact was good physical contact; she craved it and basked in it whenever she was able to get any of it. It was like she was going through hug withdrawals or something. "I understand." She said quietly, giving Jude a smile. "I get lonely a lot too. I know how it is." Candace leaned back against Jude until he moved away, sitting straight on her own. It was a shame she couldn't offer him the companionship he would want. Her heart was set on someone she couldn't have...oh well. She'd be okay. She'd get over it eventually.
Candace sighed and shook her head. "You don't give me enough credit, darling. We may not be close but we're friends, right?" She pat his shoulder. "You can come to me if you're lonely."
At his offer she looked surprised, tilting her head to one side and considering the offer. Was this a lame pickup line?
..Naaaaaah.
"Sure, why not. Why do you have a magnetic poetry set?" Candace was curious as she got up off the bench, linking arms with Jude and giving him a smile. "Lead the way, good sir. Oh, and I'm keeping the hat." Cowl, hat. Same difference.

He gave Candace a small nod as she told him that she knew how he felt. For now he had his fill of contact at least for a few moments while shifted a glance at Candace when she told him he didn't give her enough credit. Jude offered her a slight rueful smile, "I'm not used to reaching out to people just because I ... need a hug or something," the young man shrugged his shoulders.
Jude let her link arms with him and just laughed a bit, "Aw, second one I lost this month," his tone was vaguely teasing, "you can keep it. I have others," he said simply as he started to walk a bit. He didn't answer her question right away. Not yet it wasn't until he was getting close to where he had stashed his stuff at the barracks that he finally started to talk.
"My girlfriend wanted them," he began with a small smile, "always did. I always promised I'd get her a set. So last Christmas when we were given our pay and stuff I went out and bought her some so she could have them when she woke up from the pods." Jude quietly slipped away from Candace and moved to dig through his things to get out the two tins he'd bought, "but...she never woke up so go figure, right?"
Quietly he brushed fingertips over the tins as he stood up again, "Don't...don't say you're sorry, alright? It isn't like you knew," he looked at Candace and smiled a bit, "I think it is a better honor to her memory to build memories with this with someone I can enjoy being around."
