Hlengiwe had just enjoyed a very tasty meal. Food had been a little hard to come by lately so her mother's milk had been a little lacking. Luckily, mommy had managed to bring down a rather big kill and so had eaten a good meal the other day. In turn, she was starting to produce more milk again. Hlengiwe had been more than happy to suckle for milk along with her siblings.
Now she was on her own. Well, not really. The lionesses were always keeping an eye on any cubs running about. They knew which ones belonged with them. Hlengiwe had simply slipped away from her mommy on her own. Now she was wandering around the area that they were resting in. She didn't have a particular plan or destination. As long as she stayed within the boundaries of their land and within view of the adults, she was good. So she bobbed her head and swished her tail, walking along without really paying attention to where she was going.

It seemed Raiden was in disguise a lot lately, and he quietly wondered when he'd start getting sick of it. He probably was a little, by now. After all, he'd never been shy about who he really was. But today he was still faking it, even if not hidden under the skin of Thorgrim. Maybe someday the Stormborn would wonder where the messenger vanished off to, when he did, but it seemed not yet.
Today he was in quite different lands, and under a quite different disguise. He was much smaller than usual, taking the form of a young lion. Perhaps he had noticed there were cubs nearby and didn't want to summon the attention of adults, or he simply felt like it. Some of them had very dark pelts, and he did his best to imitate them, so from a distance one might not immediately feel the need to investigate. After all, adults could be such a bore.
It felt strange to be in the body of a cub again. He's often take the form of a mouse, or a bird, but this was still different. Small, stubby paws. How strange! With a low grow, he pounced after a beetle, and didn't at all feel silly.

Hlengiwe was strolling along, her tail flicking through the air as she bounced to some kind of unheard sound. It was then that she noticed another cub. But she had never seen him before. Was he a new cub? Surely she would have heard from mommy if someone had more cubs. Plus Hlengiwe would have wanted to see them right away. He seemed to have dark, natural colored fur like everyone else in the Bonelands though. Maybe she should go introduce herself if he was new.
Excited to make a new friend, Hlengiwe bounded over as fast as she could. As soon as she opened her mouth to yell out a greeting, she tumbled into the dirt having tripped on a rock. Her paws went flailing as she rolled a few times before stopping close to the new cub. At least she hadn't hit him in the process. She quickly got up, shook out her body to get out some dirt and promptly introduced herself. "Hello! I'm Hlengiwe! Who is your mommy?" The name of his mommy would help her in identifying him.

He had been quite entertained with his little beetle, but that didn't mean he didn't notice Hlengiwe coming for him. He just pretended not to, because maybe the 'other' cub would still get distracted on her way over. And she did, sort of. Raiden couldn't quite ignore the fall, and he might have laughed loudly. As it was, he giggled a bit, but managed to straighten up once she was closer, apparently undeterred by the fall.
"Hi." He answered, almost shyly. Raiden wasn't quite sure how he would behave here. He knew there was no danger for him. The worst that could happen would be an adult coming over, throwing a fit, and him poofing away. He just liked to fool around for a bit before needing to shimmy away. "I'm Radi. And I dunno, who's yours?"

Hlengiwe had not noticed the laughter when she had taken a tumble. It had been hard enough for her to concentrate on minimizing the damage done to her from the fall. She had fallen so many times that her body was beginning to learn how to fall. Somehow, her natural ability to trip over anything, everything, and nothing, did not bring her mood down.
She stuck her nose by his face and sniffed him carefully. Then she walked around him sniffing here and there. Satisfied, she plopped herself down in front of him with a big smile. "Hi Radi. How do you not know your mommy?" Hlengiwe thought that was odd. She tilted her head curiously. "My mommy is Njalo. She's the best mommy ever!" Maybe Radi's mommy was lost. There had to be a good reason for why he didn't know his mommy.

"I dunno." Perhaps he did want to be 'that cub', the one who said he didn't know anything. Just to be a brat, because he was that sort of god. "Maybe I hit my head. Or I'm an orphan. Or I was cubnapped." He suggested, hypothesizing rather than providing actual, solid answers.
He tilted his head, curiously. "Njalo? Why is she the best mommy ever?" He could also ask silly questions. The Raiden-cub did have the decency to offer Hlengiwe a little smile, in return for her own, but rather distractedly began to walk in the immediate vicinity, stretching out a paw to hit leaves, or paw rocks. His ears, at least, indicated he was paying attention to her.

Hlengiwe's face said everything that crossed her mind while Radi mentioned how he could not know his mommy. She felt so sorry for him. A lost cub without his mother. She didn't know what she would do without her mommy. That sounded like the worse thing ever. If anything happened to her or any of her siblings, Njalo would most certainly search for them endlessly.
When Radi questioned why Njalo was the best mommy ever, she responded with enthusiasm. "Because she always keeps me well fed and she knows the answers to all my questions and she loves all of us very much." The 'us' referring to her and her siblings. Of course, her mommy seemed to love everyone. Hlengiwe liked to think she loved her cubs more.

Raiden wondered, if Radi were a real cub, would he have been touched? For a moment there this little female seemed to feel quite sorry for him. The god, however, merely shrugged it off. Mortals could be so smushy sometimes. At least they could also be very nice.
"Oh, well, I don't need food. But I guess that's good." He shrugged nonchalantly. Raiden really didn't need food, and he was aware mortals did, but he sort of wanted to see what Hlengiwe would think about that. "And what questions do you ask her?"

Hlengiwe was beginning to think that maybe not having a mother had seriously affected the poor cubs head. How could a cub not need food? That was just silly. Now she really felt bad for him. "Of course you need food, we all need food." She nodded her head vigorously to show how right she was.
When he asked about questions she had asked her mom, she wasn't sure if she should share it. He wasn't part of the pride after all. In the end though, she felt like telling him something. "I asked her where my purple mark came from. She told me that it probably came from one of our relatives that no longer live." It made her think of the father she had never met.

"Nope, not everyone. I don't!" He nodded stubbornly. "I haven't eaten in... oh, ten months." In this cub form, Raiden didn't even look ten months old, let alone like he hadn't eaten in ten months, or even knew exactly what a month was. It might not entirely be true, really, he'd certainly been eating a few meals with the Stormborn, but that was exclusively to keep appearances. The Stormborn liked having feasts, who'd have thunk.
He glanced at the purple mark in question, and tilted his head curiously. "Oh, hey! I have one of those, too." He wondered how good a look she'd gotten at his hind paw. It had been black a few moments ago, but now a rather similar marking adorned it, in perhaps a slightly different shade of purple, more blueish. "See," And he turned his side towards her, and tapped the paw he'd modified.
And once Hlengiwe wasn't looking at his face, he changed his eye color to blue, like hers, just to see what she'd do, or if she'd even notice.

Hlengiwe frowned. She had never met a cub like him. Maybe he was just joking around with her. She wasn't stupid. Everyone needed to eat. Of course, she had never met a god before or been told about them. So she had no way of knowing that something did exist that didn't have to eat. The thought of food now made her tummy grumble. She'd have to find her mommy after this to get some milk.
Hlengiwe blinked at Radi. He didn't have a purple mark, she would have seen it right away. Her eyes showed her shock when she looked down at his hind paw. "You didn't have that before!" She frowned harder and looked back up at him about to question him when she noticed his eyes. They had changed! How could that happen? "What....what are you?"

How very observant of her! He might have been surprised she caught him, but then again, Raiden hadn't really been trying to be too subtle. Her surprised expression was quite amusing to him, and he had to hold back the desire to giggle. "Maybe I did!" He frowned, but didn't quite make the effort to sound too assertive. "What am I? I'm a cub right now." He shrugged. "Just like you!" Tat last bit was delivered with a grin.
He might have gone into his usual dramatics and taken on his 'natural' (what was natural about it?) form before leaving, but he might like to leave a bit more mystery there. It might be very cool, and Raiden quite liked very cool.

Hlengiwe didn't understand. She knew he was a cub, at least physically but she had a lot to learn still. Clearly he was more than just a cub. She just didn't know what he was exactly. Even though young, she had a sharp mind and caught the added on 'right now'. But even that bit confused her. She was also a cub right now and wouldn't be one forever.
Her face brightened when she thought of something. If she didn't know the answer, mommy would! "I'm gonna go ask my mommy! I'll see you later Radi." She ran off with a million questions in her head. Mommy would definitely know what Radi was.
