It haunted him wherever he went. You've changed. The wording didn't need to be exact; the underlying message was all the same. Even Lance knew there was something different about him, aside from the ******** obvious wheelchair he was using to squeeze through the cramped underground tunnels. He was still getting used to the double-glances, the second looks thrown his way. Now he was getting annoyed by it. It was impossible to brush past someone in a wheelchair when they were blocking the only route big enough to get through.
Lance didn't want their pity. He didn't want to reminisce and catch up on old times. Not yet, at least. All he wanted now was to go back to his own room and hide away in the Mist Lounge to recover and think, to spend some time alone. It was too crowded and too noisy in the tunnels, and he had enough of it.
Which had brought him to seek out a very particular individual. A certain trainee that he had recall Aria mentioning off-hand who fit the bill of exactly what he was looking for. And one who he found surprisingly easy. "Oi! You!" Lance called, wheeling up to Marcus and snapping for his attention. "Pirate-Moonie. You're the Moon looking for extra Moon training, right?"

Getting noticed by older hunters usually was a sign to Marcus 'grunt work' or 'time to gopher'. You got sent to clean up things, get things, or just suffer for their entertainment because 'being a hunter is suffering'. They were all a bit out of it and high strung, but lacking amusement, sometimes he'd get pulled into chores... or games. The games he liked because at least they helped his boredom. If anything about being stuck in the caves, lacking portals, he couldn't be sent on pointless missions off the island.
Marcus had been reading a half broken novel on the rise of soviet Russia when he heard 'pirate-moonie'. Two people fit that bill, and Harrison was else where. Looking up from his book, he didn't expect to really see a guy in a wheelchair. It got a quick look of confusion before it was shrugged off. One guy was missing an arm, another was in a wheelchair.
With runes.
"Yes sir. Before we all got sent out I'd been looking for a requesting extra training. Why? I'm not going to have to play the part of someone's princess am I?" He wasn't looking forward to that particular thing on his check off list.

Marcus' question got a bark of laughter from Lance. "Sorry man, but you're not my type. I don't think you'd make a good one anyway, not unless you have a couple pairs of rolled up socks to stick in your type while you're at it, but even then..." A hand rose to rub his chin as he continued to look at Marcus thoughtfully. "Hm. Nope, even with the extra padding I don't think I'd climb your tower. Them's the breaks."
He shrugged, then gestured towards him. "Come on. M'name's Lance, and I'm the current acting-assistant for Mist. Aria's mentioned you were looking for extra Moon training, and I'm in need of a Moon right now. What say you?"

Ah crap, he walked into that hadn't he. Sighing Marcus didn't even try to fight it. It wasn't worth it at this point with the who 'forbidden lovers' incident. "Most attractive girls don't have facial hair, I know. I am sure someone's hopes and dreams are dashed because of it." Who's dreams? he really didn't want to think of that one really.
"But, nice to meet you Lance, sir." Acting assistant made him wonder if the previous one had- the image of another division assistant came up and he internally winced. "Er, yeah. Any training is still training at the end of the day right? What do I need to do?" Dog earring the page, Marcus set the book off to the side. he could come back for it later.

"Here's a tip: don't play in the Life labs any time soon. You never know what bored, sadistic Life tech is bored enough to give you a make-over." Granted most of them tended to use and abuse permanent markers. Were there even hunters willing to use make-up on knocked out trainees anymore? Lance wasn't sure, though it couldn't hurt to ask at some point. He made a mental note to be scarce around the Life course whenever that would transpire later on.
Lance began to lead the way, effectively clearing a path for Marcus to follow him. "Easy. You get to do what the Moon division does best: guarding. I can't exactly turning around in this, and considering how tight some spaces are up top..." Lance shrugged, throwing a glance over his shoulder at the Moon trainee. "Then again, if you don't feel like trailing along behind like that you can take point. I don't care either way, just so long as we get up there and start clearing someplace out. Taking either rear or point will score you some much-needed experience anyway. Along with that, we also need to figure out where to start clearing... Any personal preference?"

Avoid the life labs? "Don't have to tell me twice. I've had enough experience with the questionable bandages to know if I can? I get the hell out of dodge. Clarice is nice and all but some of the hunters uh-" He stopped. "Sorry, I don't really have much room to speak ill of them given they kind of...save our asses when it comes to getting the s**t beaten out of us do I?" He groaned. Acting division assistant or not, Marcus needed to keep certain thoughts to himself. It was hard when he kept hearing things though.
Scratching the back of his head, Marcus thought about it. "I'm okay with taking point. But, from what Miss Carr said, the Labs are the most important due to the sleepers and equipment? I've been through there a few times already, but if it's still got some nasties in there..." He shrugged. "Shouldn't be too hard right?"

Lance openly smirked. "Yeah. Both Life and Moon help patch us sorry sods up, so if you want to learn everything there is about Moon... I'd get it out now while they're not aro- hey Francesca! How's reclaiming the labs working out for you?" Lance called, lifting a hand to wave towards someone behind Marcus.
When the trainee answered, Lance gave him a nod and leaned back in his chair. "Excellent. I'll be attacking around you, but if anything comes up behind us..." He trailed off, considering. "Hm. We'll deal with that later. Since you're taking point, lead on."

Marcus gave a shudder. "I like trying not to tempt fate. Plus being called for 'testing' under the guise of missions." A shake of his head. He really didn't like bandage testing, especially with what happened the last few times. Pain, gushing, and...noise making. Yeah, he was avoiding. "Thanks for offering to have me go with you. I'll try my best." Even the best could not be good enough. Going through the portal, the labs were at first glance rather empty. A few steps in and the sound of something moving, just out of sight. raising the scimitar, he waited for something. He didn't wait very long as something decided to say hello with it's claws. Quote: 11-32: A small, semi-solid creature snatches at you with painful claws and teeth. Mob Stats HP: 5 Auto Damage: 2 (hit or miss)

"You've gotta grab the bull by the horns sometime. Nobody's going to live forever; why live the safe and narrow when you can duck over onto the wild side every so often?" Lance pointed out, nodding towards him. "I'm envious. But, hey. It's not my place to tell you how to live."
Upon arriving in the labs, Lance held up his hand and made a gesture. At once his weapon materialized itself: a rather large, black-and-orange-yellow lance. His free hand quickly spun the wheel of his chair next to it, his weapon impaling the creature. "This... this is seriously what Deus is overrun with?!" Lance stared, shaking his lance as the creature turned to stone and crumbled beneath the motion. "You've got to be kidding me."

"Let's keep moving." Lance hefted his namesake-weapon, gesturing for Marcus to lead on. "I dunno about you, but I hope nothing's taken the opportunity to escape from the Labs in this chaos. There are some things in there that I honestly think would be better off being dragged out behind Deus and put down, y'know?" Quote: 100: Grey feathers fall down and a terrible cry echoes throughout the area. A miniature version of the Phoenix swoops down, agitating the fog wherever it goes. Boss Stats HP: 99 Auto Damage: 10 (hit or miss) Extra: Use a -8 modifier. For every missed attack, another insanity monster spawns inside the area. You do not need to fight this spawn, but instead ADD it to the area's tally in this thread.

He spoke too soon.
Lance stopped, his eyebrows drawing together in puzzlement as something fluttered across his face. He reached up and plucked a grey feather from the air, releasing it as it crumbled between his fingers. A loud, angry cry shrieked as a dark shape folded its wings into a dive, intent on attacking the two interlopers.
The acting assistant gave a loud whoop as he lifted his weapon up, trying to time it just so in order to have the creature impale itself on his weapon. "Now THIS is what I'm talkin' about!"

...Of course, out of practice and unused to battling in his wheelchair, Lance missed the timing. "Damn!" Lance cursed, turning the miss into a follow-up successful strike. He felt the tip of his lance slide into the unprotected underside of the insanity avian, withdrawing the lance before the creature could take off and drag it out of his hands.

As Lance turned the creature into a creature kabob, Marcus felt twinge of uselessness. "Damn, you just-" A whistle through his teeth as it broke apart. "Yeah, well, I try not to bait the bull you know. And as the things-" he waved his hand in the hair flippantly, "-they're just tedious. Occasionally a strong thing will come and kick our s**t in but mostly just the buggers."
Leading the way down a hall, he glanced down at one of the feathers before it decided to dive bomb them. "Well Lance uh-" He held his sword up. "I think you got your wish." Their s**t was so ********: 50

Lance smirked. "As it should be, Moonite! By the way, I've never caught your name...?" He glanced at Marcus briefly as he took up a defensive position, angling his Lance to strike at the phoenix around his trainee-shield. "Don't worry too much about me. If the chair gets hit that's fine; I'm more worried about the rest of me."
