GIVE ME YOUR PLAYLISTS. YOU MIGHT GET COOL STUFF.

Music is kind of a big deal in the shop (or at least it is to the GM/Artist). In an effort to foster a bit of creativity and encourage inspiration, we thought we'd compile a list of songs that people feel are appropriate for their characters. Reyna has songs in mind for all of her characters, but wants to know what it is you all listen to when writing for your own Shadows.

Share your play lists here in the thread. Merci will keep them compiled and organized in her post for everyone to see.

This isn't a guarantee, but Reyna has been looking for ideas for minis to help spark her creativity and to get back into the habit of working on art on the regular again. Post your songs, and if she likes your music, you might end up with a SF mini based on the song.

This thread is also open to lurkers. Post as much as you want, as often as you want. If you come up with a new song list or even just one song, please post again rather than editing your old post, that way it's easier for Merci to catalog your songs.

General Guidelines

  • Post songs that you like to listen to that inspire you to write for your characters, remind you of other characters in the game, or just make you think of the SF world as a whole.
  • Please let us know who the song reminds you of, if it's a general song for the shop, etc. This is important so we know which character/category to list the song under.
  • Tell us a little bit (think 1 to 2 sentences) why you like the song if you have the time. This isn't a requirement, but it would be nice.
  • Please don't go back and edit your posts. If you think of a new song, just post again to make it easier on Merci.
  • Don't complain if you don't get a mini. It's not that I don't like your songs, it's that I am enormously busy. Rather than getting bogged down making promises I can't fulfill, it'd be a lot better if I got growths done along with other major updates for the shop as a whole. This just meant to be for a quick bit of inspiration and practice.
  • Owners and non-owners alike are welcome to post.
  • This is an on-going, never-ending event. There is no deadline. Besides, new music is being made all the time. ♥

HAY. HAVE A FREE J-ROCKER MINI.
....but only if you post your playlist. 8D

Smokey hogs all the music:

"Cobrastyle" - Teddy Bears Sthlm
"Push the Tempo / Ya Mama" - Fatboy Slim
"Pump It" - The Black Eyed Peas
"Voodoo People" - The Prodigy
"Walk This Way" - Aerosmith & Run DMC

These all are just perfect for her in-your-face "dare you, dare you, double-dare you" cockiness. Danceable (or bounceable XD), fast paced, and I don't think all the music videos have racing, chasing, epic giant monster battles and generally chaos and mayhem going on.

And for Rutie:

"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" - Daft Punk

Fft. This is the song that inspired the concept for this fiend. Nuff said. X3 <3

These are ones I picked out from my playlist on the way home from work today.
>> and probably a product of chatting to Thabs too much on IM ...

Guardians/Staff

Amon
"Filmstar" Suede.
I can just see him strutting through a club in slo mo to this tune.
"Smooth" Santana - similar reason lol

Reyna
"Poison" - Alice Cooper.
One of my -fave- songs. Used to be the theme song of my dearly de-commissioned Shutensa ... I think the lyrics suit the demon lady from some rumours I might have heard about her private life. wink
"Yoo Hoo" - Imperial Teen. It sounds aloof which is the impression Anais got of Reyna at the BBQ.

Fiends

Neph
"Epic" Faith No More
Just the line 'You want it all but you can't have it." Even if she thinks she can XD

And one of my personal favourite songs to write to is
"Stripsearch" By Faith No More.
It's atmospheric and perfect for gloomy cities like I imagine Aekea to be. (I know that's not the shop location buut same world ^^)

One more:

"The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning" - Smashing Pumpkins

Nice and dark, it's the song from the Watchmen trailer. Strikes me as a song for Doran as well as for the shop, in its darker and more sinister times.

And another one, for Mystic this time:

"Träumst Du" - Oomph! feat. Marta Jandová

On the fly lyrics translation:

You know just as well as I do that I'm unable to sleep
because my dreams are always only about you
I have waited night after night for you to come to me
Now please take my hand and come into the light
Just a tiny little step and there'll be no return
Will you dream with me tonight?
Will you jump (down) with me tonight?

The great freedom is the gate to your bliss
The free will will be soon be your demise
I know you can't bear the noise of life
And only the blink of an eye keeps us from the silence
Will you dream with me tonight?
Will you jump (down) with me tonight?

Will you dream with me tonight?
Will you climb the roof with me?

Oh please please please come a just little closer
A tiny little step and there'll be no return
Will you dream with me tonight?
Will you jump with me tonight?
Will you dream with me tonight?
Will you climb the roof with me?

Will you come…with me
Will you jump…with me…tonight

Mystic tells me he just loves music by Oomph, kthx. "Labyrinth" seems very, very fitting for him as well. X3 <3 Also, I highly recommend checking out their videos.

On the fly lyrics translation:

Left - right - straight ahead
You'll never escape from here
Left - right - straight ahead
You'll never escape from here

Left - right - straight ahead
Left - right - straight ahead
Left - right - straight ahead
Left - right - straight ahead

Insanity holds you captive
And warped your idylic world
Planted itself inside your head
Run, child, run, as fast as you can

You no longer remember who you are
You no longer remember what love is
Your mirror image is all distorted
There's no one here who's on your side

Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret
Knock, knock
Knock, knock

Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret
Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret

Left -right - straight ahead
You're inside the labyrinth
Left -right - straight ahead
Left -right - straight ahead
No one can tell you
Which doors are the right ones
My lost child

Left -right - straight ahead
You're inside the labyrinth
Left -right - straight ahead
Left -right - straight ahead
No one can tell you
Which ones are the good guys and which ones the bad
My lost child

You often banished me from within you
Your heart consumed by the fire of my anger
Your second Me, your second skin
Walled you in inside your head

When I dive into your soul
And use you for my own passions
Then I'll blind all your senses
Only you yourself can end this game

Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret
Knock, knock
Knock, knock

Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret
Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret

Left -right - straight ahead
You're inside the labyrinth
Left -right - straight ahead
Left -right - straight ahead
No one can tell you
Which doors are the right ones
My lost child

Left -right - straight ahead
You're inside the labyrinth
Left -right - straight ahead
Left -right - straight ahead
No one can tell you
Which ones are the good guys and which ones the bad
My lost child

You're inside the Labyrinth
You're inside the Labyrinth

Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret
Knock, knock
Knock, knock

Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret
Knock, knock, let me in
Let me be your little secret

[Scream]

(Please excuse my eclectic taste and questionable choices. >.>;;; )

Ying and Tsavorite
City of Flickering Destruction - drammatica: The Very Best of Yoko Shimomura
- There's a ton of Legend of Mana music on this playlist, including the four pieces arranged for drammatica, and all of it is awesome. City of Flickering Destruction is especially important as the theme music of Etansel, the ancient home of the Jumi race, and is also just totally gorgeous.
Taking a Hold of the Future! - Luminous Arc 2 Original Soundtrack
- Another lovely BGM by Yoko Shimomura. There are several great "traveling/exploring" BGMs from Legend of Mana, yet whenever I picture Ying and Savvy exploring the world of Fa'Diel, this is the song I hear, especially for the more, ah, interesting parts of their journey.
The Adventure Begins - Professor Layton and the Curious Village Original Soundtrack
- A tiny little BGM that expresses the less stressful parts of Ying and Savvy's journey through Fa'Diel. At least, Ying's happy during this one, Savvy's probably sulking somewhere.
In This Serenity - Mayumi Gojo
- Part of the reason this is on my list relates to plot developments that haven't, well, developed yet. >_>; But setting that aside, I can still see Ying and Savvy looking up at the night sky together, and it being the only time they're really in agreement about who they are and what they're doing.

Ying
Rainy days never stays - the brilliant green
- This song perfectly describes Ying's battle with fear and grief, and how her cheerful personality wins every time. It's not easy, but eventually the pain starts to heal, the clouds dissipate, and she can take on the world again... at least, until the next rainstorm.
Getting Up - Yuka Tokumitsu
- Like the previous song, this is a great expression of Ying's sadness and anxiety, and how she manages to get past it to be a stronger person, without sacrificing her upbeat nature. Every time she falls, she'll get up and right back on that horse (or bike or whatever she fell off of).
Shining Girl - Megumi Hayashibara
- This song applied more before, when Ying was really happy and extroverted all the time. She's less ALL GENKI ALL THE TIME now, but at heart she's still optimistic and wants nothing more to believe that everything will work out in the end.
Vivez! - Christine Andreas and Company
- Another happy song, because that's the kind of girl Ying is. Aside from very basic decorum, she has no sense of propriety to speak of (to say nothing of her concept of personal space, or lack thereof), and is all about having fun and embracing life whenever possible.

Tsavorite
Kindan no Panse - Saori Ishitsuka
- Another older song, I chose this more for tone and sound than any explicit connection to Savvy. There are some parts that I do relate to her, though. In particular: "Ah, in your dreams, you've got tired out in your tedious happiness - And you enjoy the betrayal of your wild sadness" reminds me very much of Savvy's selfish and whimsical demeanor. It doesn't matter what she does or who it hurts, as long as she's having fun.
Maze of the Dark - Yuki Matsuoka, Akeno Watanabe, and Yuri Shiratori
- Like the above, this really feels like a Savvy song without anything clearly making it so, but there are a few especially relevant parts. The mentions of boundless desire and restrained freedom are certainly appropriate though, not to mention the obvious connection with darkness.
Kuneri ~A Beam of Light - Ghost Trick Original Soundtrack
- Someone like Savvy needs background music for sneaking around and scheming and doing tricky things in the darkness. Ghost Trick offers a ton of good music for that, but this track in particular has the mystery and the flair Savvy tries to exude whenever she's mid-plot. In other words, if music played through her head while she was doing things, this would probably be it.
Pokerap - James "D Train" Williams and Babi Floyd
- ... okay, this ended up on Savvy's list by accident as a result of me puttering with it at 4AM. But it actually does kind of fit, both with her powers (gotta summon 'em all?) and her attitude (she's gonna be the best there ever was!) so I left it. Anyway, her playlist really needed to lighten up. >.>;

SF World
The Sounds of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel
- "Hello Darkness my old friend, I've come to talk with you again"
From that fitting beginning, this song continues to remind me of Fiends in general, along with a sense of urgency and desperation that I somehow find fitting.

Creeping Pulsation - Children of Mana Original Soundtrack
- Mysterious, suspenseful, magical, and rather eerie, this track mixes together a lot of feelings I associate with the world of Shadow Fiends. And also Mana music. But mostly the feelings.
Chained Past - Ghost Trick Original Soundtrack
- There's a fair bit of Ghost Trick music on my Fiend playlist, but this one stands out to me. Beyond its title, it brings to mind feelings of confinement, sorrow, and blocked feelings/memories, which I think many Fiends would be able to relate to.
Someone is Watching - Time Hollow Original Soundtrack
- CREEPY. Just like the title says, this song feels like someone is in the shadows, watching you. Whether it represents Fiends themselves or something more sinister, I'm not sure, but Someone is Watching. Be very afraid.
Track 4 - Clue
- I have no idea if this even has a name- it's from Clue for PC. I really like the Clue music, and this track in particular puts me in the mind of a classy, smoke-filled room with flashes of sparkle and shadow. It doesn't quite strike me as setting music for Twilight Designs, but it does remind me of the shop while I listen to it.
Shadow of Doubt - Escaflowne Original Soundtrack
- Starts out deep, jarring, and somewhat ominous, then the elements start to blend more harmoniously, before becoming what is basically a mix of the two. Without sounding like a textbook, this reminds me of the growth of a Fiend, mellowing and evolving from potentially shaky beginnings before entering Evolution and having to make a choice.
The Voice of the Seven Vibrant Colors - Luminous Arc 2 Original Soundtrack
- And now for something completely different! This music is cute and peppy and reminds me of a lot of the less fiendishly-inclined Fiends. A gathering of them, specifically.
Dark Side of the Light - Faylan
- Loneliness, discovery, and and internal connection. Also it just sounds really cool okay.
