By now Maria trusted the younger female and was content to leave Tahirah in charge for whole afternoons, though Maria was never too far away for the boys especially were just learning how to use their assassin heritage to make their parents and 'older sister' grow white hairs. But an hour or two was just about right, the cubs couldn't get into too much trouble in that time and Giovanni was around today anyway.
So Maria found herself wandering along the shore quite a distance from the main pride, close to the bluff where her husband and their brood often spent their days. Smiling at the many cherished memories she already held of her family, the mature lioness stopped to watch the waves roll across the calm ocean surface. As far as banishment went... this really wasn't all that bad.

Fascinating... simply fascinating.
He'd never seen the sea before but there had been rumors about it. An endless body of water, the 'eternal lake', the 'big water', the 'end of the world'. Whatever name it went by, nothing could have prepared him for the reality that was the ocean. Endless, beautiful, powerful, and tranquil all at once. Could it really be the end of the world or was it, perhaps, the start of a new one? Perhaps it divided the world?
Since his capture, Lewenharto had done little else but poke and prod around everywhere and anywhere. He tested the water- salty -and compared it to the water flowing in from the nearby streams. He marveled at the sands and all that he could find in them. Shells, crabs, feathers, claws, teeth he had never seen before, and plants unlike anything that grew out of the earth. His mind was constantly working, delighted in all the new mysteries he had to pull apart. His captor, Magpie, had decided he was harmless enough to leave alone. The gypsies at the borders never saw hide or hair of him, and while he claimed to be perfectly sane, many saw his frantic obsessing as borderline insanity.
He had obtained a den and quickly filled it with found objects of every shape and size. Kelp, shark teeth, sea shells, empty crab shells, dried seahorses, seaweed, salt from the sea, crushed plants, crushed berries, and strangest of all- leaf after leaf filled with scribbles and drawings created through a variety of crushed berries, dried blood from his own paw, and smeared kelp. Drawings of pride members, the creatures he observed, the sea, and speculations of the mysterious sea-life that he only knew from their bones.
He couldn't be happier. That morning he'd found a small thicket filled with berries- a lovely purple color. The lion walked with an eager bounce in his step, his satchel filled to capacity and a fresh pair of sticks held gently in his muzzle. New brushes. He'd have to snip some of his mane off for bristles but it was a small loss.
