Spear walked around town by herself. It was early afternoon; her favorite time of day. There was a nice cool breeze blowing and it wasn’t too crowded out. She had just moved out of her parent’s house with her twin, Pepper Mint, but they had decided they would find separate places to live. They were growing up and they couldn’t be around each other 24/7 anymore. She sighed; it made her depressed just thinking about it. What was she going to do without her brother around in the morning? Without his teasing comments when she when her got all fluffed up when she was trying to help someone in need? She stopped paying attention to where she was going and wandered around for about an hour in a sad/sour mood. She spotted a tea shop about a block down and decided it was time for her to calm down. She wasn’t going to get anything done feeling sorry for herself. Spear walked inside the tea shop, it was so calm, and she could already feel herself relaxing. Strolling up to the counter she smiled and said: ”I’ll have a cup of peppermint tea please.”

((I am so sorry this took ages, I couldn't think with the pain in my jaw x.x Now that it's better I'm finally getting to my tags <3 )) Sunk heavily into one of the very padded and well-loved chairs by the window, Matthias sat quietly, rolling a mug of Earl Grey between his hands as he brooded. Watching the people as they strutted by, he sipped occasionally at his tea, taking his time now that he was on the second cup.
Men in suits rushed past, women on phones, families that barely seemed to notice one another. A pack of teens. Your usual fanfare. He quirked an eyebrow over his mug though, as a young female passed by. Attractive, to be sure, but it was the way she held herself that caught his attention. Determined? Upset? He shrugged as she went out of sight, staring down into his tea, but then the door's bell chimed softly and he looked up to see her stroll in. Interesting.
His fingers drummed lightly on the soft cover of the book he'd brought with and hadn't even bothered to open yet, debating with himself. He wasn't exactly world-renowned for making friends, but some people were interesting enough to take a chance on. He waited for her to order and then waved his hand in her direction, unsure if she'd see or catch her attention. If not, he'd probably let her go, not wanting to get up and make himself a bother if she was in a rush.

Aaaahhh… thought Spear. This place smells heavenly! the lady getting her drinks looked completely bored as she quickly made her tea. "Thank you so much." Spear said cheerily smiling, trying to brighten the girl out of her grumpy mood. Now that Spear was trying to be more positive, rather than glum, she could at least help some others do the same. "Yeah…whatever." she said as a response and turned away. "Are you okay?" Spear asked, concerned. She had to help the poor girl. Since Spear had spent the better part of today being miserable she felt as if she knew how the poor girl felt. She turned at looked at Spear incredulously. "I’m fine." she said harshly turning away, but not before she gave her a ‘what a freak’ look.
She turned away from the counter slowly, her sour mood returning. She hated not being able to help. And she felt bad when people refused her assistance. That was her mission in life, to help others. So far, her mission wasn’t doing that great. Spear sighed and was about to leave the tea shop when she noticed a male Noodle sitting by the window. He was rather handsome so Spear jumped a little when he waved her over. Her mind quickly reeled. Did she now him from somewhere? He didn’t look familiar. Her tail twitched. Did he see her talking to the waiter? Maybe he thought she was being rude and was going to tell her to mind her own business. Oh, Pepper was right, she thought fretfully. ”I need to learn not to stick my nose into places it doesn’t belong. By the time she reached the seat by the window she was practically in a panic. She could feel her tail puffing up. "Yes?" she asked nervously.

He hadn't honestly expected her to come over, and now he was dealing with a sudden knot in his stomach from nerves. A spur of the moment thought had suddenly become manifest and he wasn't sure what to do. By the time she'd reached his table there was anxiety in every line of her body, and for the life of him Matty couldn't figure out why. Not the type to pull out a pick up line, he quirked an eyebrow at her and tried to come up with something intelligent to say.
"I... uh. Well, I saw you walk in."
Yep, completely intelligent. Sighing, he looked away from her. There was nothing really to lose by being honest with her, and it's not like he even knew her name, but sticking your pride in a blender and hoping the other person doesn't hit the on switch just didn't typically sit well.
"Truthfully, you look like a good person having a bad day, and that didn't strike me as fair. So... hi. My name is Matthias, and it's nice to meet you."
His grin was a little self-deprecating as he looked at her apologetically; completely believing he'd botched this before it even began.

She clutched the hot drink in her hands so tight she was afraid it would burst open, in attempt to hide her shaking hands. He saw her come in? Well, Spear thought ruefully, at least I’m being noticed…I hope it isn’t in a bad way. She looked herself over quickly. Nope, her appearance looked fine, to her at least anyway. When he looked away, so did she. She was quick to help people in need having no trouble talking and asking questions. But it came time to talk to someone just for the sake of talking? Spear was a total mess. Maybe he didn’t notice my awkward conversation with the waitress. She hopped. Spear looked back up from her tea when he spoke.
"Ah, well, I’m not having a very pleasant day. Is it that obvious?" She laughed humorlessly. "It’s nice to meet you too Matthias," She reached out a still quivering hand and shook his. "My name is Spear Mint" A small smile crept on her lips but quickly faded as she tried to think of what to say next. Come on think, she thought, Pepper’s told you a million times how to have a conversation with someone. What was the first thing he always said?...Be observant! That was it. She took a quick look around and noticed the book laying on the table next to him.
"Reading something interesting?" She asked, her grip on her tea slowly relaxing.

He took her hand with an equally nervous grip and shook it gently, giving her a smile in kind. He saw hers fading though, and wondered what had happened. Was she about to tell him off? It probably was pretty rude of him to point out that she looked to be having an off day, but she'd just confirmed it herself. Hm.
"Sorry to hear that I was right, Ms. Mint. I hope that it doesn't trouble you for long, then."
At her question, he lifted his hand off the book, bemused.
"Aaaah, don't know if interesting is the right word for it. A bit dry as far as reading materials go, I'm afraid."
The cover was rather plain, but the words How to Be Successful: Powerful Lessons for Success could be seen. He looked at it and then flipped it over, shyly. His ears folding a little in embarrassment, he coughed and took a sip of his overly-cool tea.
"S'pose everyone has something they'd like to be better at, yes?"
He offered her a smile as he shook his head, hoping she would treat it with the same respect that he was taking with pointedly not asking why she was having a bad day. Looking for some way to fix his botch, he nodded to the other chair before kicking it out from beneath the table, casually offering it to her.
"You can sit if you want. You don't have to, of course, especially if you have someplace to be; but standing can't be all that comfortable. It's just nice to slow down once in awhile, you know?"
((Poor, awkward people xD))

Noticing the title of the book she smiled again. He seemed very shy, much like herself. She could feel he tail puffing up and hoped he couldn’t tell she was still anxious. Her eyes twinkled at his comment.
"That is very true. Like right now for example, I really do wish I was better at having conversations."
Her face turned a little red at admitting that out loud. But he could probably already tell. Standing awkwardly for a moment, Spear’s mind raced for something else to say but luckily he spoke first. When he kicked out the chair she was surprised that she felt relieved. Having been sad most of the day, this was the first time she had finally started to cheer up. It probably doesn’t hurt that he’s handsome either, she thought, blushing again. And now I’m standing here staring at him like an idiot. Her tail flicked again nervously.
"I would love to sit down. I don’t have anywhere to go and yes, slowing down is great. It gives you a chance to admire the view."
Finally she sat down and scooted in the chair. She curled her tail around her leg and carefully placed her tea on the table. Everything is going so nicely now, it would be just like me to mess it up and spill something or say something stupid. She thought of this morning her first time meeting with her new roommates, she was so nervous she stumbled and stuttered over almost every word. She was happy she had yet to stutter in front of Matthias.
"I just moved into a new place, away from my twin brother and I have quite a few new roommates. It’s a little stressful. This is the first time I’ve lived away from him. It feels so weird, like I’m missing half of myself." Spear stopped herself from talking. He asked if I wanted to sit down, she corrected herself, Not to listen to my life story. She blushed yet again, taking a sip of tea and looking out the window, in hopes to hide her awkwardness.

He couldn't help but laugh, really laugh, at her comment.
"Yes! Yes, exactly. I wish I knew what to say."
He couldn't help but smile faintly as she accepted the offer and sat with him, feeling as if perhaps this wasn't going so bad after all. He nodded and peered out the window, agreeing with her sentiment.
"It's surprising how much you notice when you really look, and how rare it is when someone notices you back. So many people here, all with their own thoughts."
He waved a hand towards the window to indicate all the passerby, rushing along to who knew where. He suddenly realized how creepy that could come across and coughed, hoping she wouldn't think that he stared at people all day. Thankfully she'd brought up a new subject and he pounced on it readily.
"I come from a big family, noisy and there's always a lot going on. When I moved it out it was... too quiet at first. Still is sometimes. You half expect to hear a familiar voice comment on something and when it doesn't it feels weird. ...That's why I come here to read, it's louder, a little more comfortable. Not so..." He didn't want to say lonely, but he couldn't really place what it was exactly. Sipping the cold tea to give himself something to do, he glanced at her and saw she was looking out he window herself. Maybe he should try to change the topic? Or... actually show interest in what she said instead of making it about him. He could smack himself. In his rush to fill in the silence he'd probably made a classic male mistake.
"Anyway, yes I can relate. In a way. Twin brother you said? I hear twins have a closer bond, that's got to be difficult for you. Are your roommates nice at least?"
