It was dark, with a crescent moon hidden behind a cloud. The sounds of night bugs could be heard in the tall grass. On the trees. In a small pile of rocks. A soft breeze was blowing from one direction, causing the grasses to dance.

And a little shadow with brightly colored ears was slinking along the side of a boulder. Mana wasn't out of pack territory-he could still hear the sounds of the rest of them behind him-so he didn't feel so bad about going off alone. Though he enjoyed the time spent with his family and pack, his curiosity often got the better of him and he had to leave for a time to seek out something to sniff and prod at. Already he was starting to practice his hunting skills on small rodents. Mostly just for the chance to study something dead when he couldn't find anything bigger. Finding a full corpse was even rarer.

Mana was an odd pup, to say the least. When others saw a meal, he saw an opportunity to learn about the body. He already knew what he wanted to do when he grew up. As long as he could remember, he had an interest in what went on underneath the fur of all animals around him.

The little pup stopped and jumped onto a rock. Sitting down with his tail almost straight behind him, he raised his head to the stars. So many. It was sad most of the celestial records had been lost. There must be a million stories just waiting to be told up there amongst the blinking lights. It truly was beautiful. So much more than the daylight. Manahem had seen it only once. So bright, it hurt his eyes. He wouldn't be disappointed if he never put his green eyes on it, again.

Minze rarely traveled during the night. She prefered the sun to warm her black fur and give her eyes the light to see by. But she'd found some hours ago that she couldn't sleep. No matter what she could do, she couldn't find sweet release in sleep. So she decided to use the little light from the moon and the stars to wander until she passed out.

This brought her onto a curious sight.

It was a pup, or at least, a mass with bright green spots, and ears. So really it was a pair of floating ears and some floating dots. Minze tilted her head and sniffed, edging closer cautiously. While the wild dog could see in the dark, the lack of moonlight was not helping at all, and she didn't want to have run into a sleeping lion or god or something that could eat her.

She got closer and could discurn that it was a pup, esspecially by the scent. Why a pup was out by himself was odd, but Minze didn't question it. Yet.

"Hi there, little one," she said quietly, trying to not scare the poor boy.

Mana continued to slink around the boulder, his body brushing against the ground below him. He stuck his nose to the edge of the large rock, sniffing for the little creatures that had been rubbing against it. He found a hole, nearly tripping and falling snout first down into it, where the smell was strongest. Nothing of death or blood came to his nostrils, so he backed away. Since he wasn't hungry, he just wanted to find something dead to poke at. 'Specially with his anxiety over being alone starting to slowly creep up on him. The pup sighed. If not for that part of his personality, his hunting would be more enjoyable.

Making another turn around the rock, Mana stopped and sat down, still pressed to the boulder, and looked up at the sky. The moon wasn't visible, but the stars always were. It was a little strange to think that one clump of those stars were waiting for him to find them. He couldn't so easily pick out which clumps were recognized constellations already in his youth.

One of Mana's huge ears swiveled towards the sound of the newcomer, his head following soon not too quickly after. He didn't jump or bat an eye at the stranger, just tilted his head. She was not one he could remember seeing around the pack, but new members were joining slowly without his knowledge. She could be one he just hadn't seen or heard about yet.

"Hello. Are you with the pack? I haven't seen you before."
