Covered with many villages, the Southern Lands are a haven for youkai and human alike minus the fact the Southern Leader hates humans. The true heir of the Southern Lands is unable to retake her lands without help and has been on the run since she was young.

The young woman dodged the blow by the cat youkai. Behind her in the huts the humans cowered frightfully. She had happened upon the village and found the false ruler's goons frightening the villagers with death. She had stepped in and had been instantly recognized as the true heir to the Southern Lands. "You won't get away from this alive pest." The girl laughed brightly, her eyes dancing coldly. In her eyes rested the eyes of a true killer that enjoyed blood shed. "Try and kill me." The cat youkai darted forward but it never even reached her. The young woman now stood in the place the cat youkai had been while he was in pieces on the ground. Immediately the others fled. Instantly villagers began to swarm out crying out in joy.

The elder miko of the village came before her and bowed. "Lady Hotaru, we thank you for rescuing our village. We are in your debt once more." Hotaru now appeared to be as gentle as a feather. The fierce expression was gone. "There is no need Yumiko. Continue as you were." The villagers bowed as she left.

As Hotaru moved into the forest, she found herself smiling. Suddenly she looked down at her claws and frowned. There was blood on her claws. That was no good. She didn't really like to see blood even though she was a youkai. She even preferred her food cooked. Moving to a stream, she kneeled and began to slowly wash off her claws.

Standing from the stream, Hotaru began to move west. It was time she leave the Southern Lands. She had come too close to being found at her daily wanderings. She had gone into the west before but she had never traveled all that far in. This time she would need to travel a lot deeper than she usually did and this made her nervous. She knew Sesshomaru would kill her if he thought her a nuisance.

Hotaru arrived near a village in her lands. Stepping into it, she watched the children immediately run up to her. "Lady Hotaru! You came you back!" Hotaru felt herself smile barely. Why was she acting like this? It had just been a kiss. Of course it was the first time she had been kissed but still. Letting the children lead her deeper into the village, she motioned for Hiro to check the perimeter. It had been a while since she had been back to this particular village. It was farther south and right next to the ocean. She could smell the scent of the sea. As they reached the Elder's hut, the children left her and let her enter. Entering, she immediately saw her. "Child, you look as if someone died." "It's okay Lady Mina. I just need to rest. May I stay for a while" The miko smiled and nodded. "Come, your place is still here. Rest." Hotaru moved to the cot and sat on it, leaning against the wall. She closed her eyes but did not sleep.

Shouts and fear covered the village as Sesshomaru walked down the center of it...people backed up against buildings not even daring to get in his way...a young watched him walk out the village...the Neko was of noble class...based on how he was dressed...the Neko followed Sesshomaru just out of the village before he cursed at him..."You bloody demon trash..you dare walk into my village...go back to the west you wretched dog"..the Neko threw a stone at him...Sesshomaru's fur blocked it and wrapped itself around the Neko throwing him in the air then swatting him towards the village...at a small hut...breaking thru it...he then left into the forest...until he came to a tree and sat at the base of it...leaning against the trunk with his swords against his shoulder...with his eyes closed...basking in the peace

As Hotaru woke, she found herself moving outside the hut. This village was more peaceful than most of the others because there weren't any of those silly cats that pretended to rule here. This village was left alone. Moving through the huts, she caught sight of a broken down hut. It looked as though the weather had tore it apart. Looking over, she spoke to a young woman with a baby. "Hina, what happened to that hut?" Hina smiled sadly. "We had a vicious storm. That was Lia's hut. Unfortunately, she didn't survive the storm. No one has been able to rebuild it since. We haven't had the time with all the work we have been having to do. Not to mention those nekos have been getting closer to the village." Hotaru nodded. "I'll go ahead and get it rebuilt. Perhaps a new family can live in it." Hina smiled. "Nonsense. We would keep it for when you would come to stay. Everyone is happy where they are at. We are all quite comfortable." Hotaru smiled. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have her own hut here. She often made her way down here but never stayed the night. She found that she may be wanting to stay here more often. If anything just to protect them. Moving into the trees, she began to chop down some trees. The sound of the trees falling could be heard by youkai with sensitive hearing miles away.

Sesshomaru opened his eyes and heard a tree fall in the distance...who was it now...he got up and walked to see what the commotion was about...his eyes tensed as he caught the scent of the person...it was somewhat familiar...he saw another tree fall towards him and he dashed forward using his whip to cut the tree into several pieces...he reached for tokijin and stopped inches before making contact ..his eyes widened for a second as he realized who it was...as the tree hit the ground he made eye contact with one responsible...

Hotaru had tensed when a whip cut one of the trees. As the attacker came forward, sword in hand, her eyes widened and her heart skipped a beat. He had survived. How had he survived? The entire cliff had come down. She was certain that the guardian had destroyed him or the cliff had crushed him. Moving forward in a stumbling gait, she moved in front of him. "You're alive..." Suddenly her senses came back to her and she narrowed her eyes before slapping him. "How dare you! I did not give you permission to kiss me." Whether she would admit it or not, tears of relief were forming in her eyes. Her beast for once was silence. It was in shock. No one had survived the guardian before.

Her slap hit nothing but air...an afterimage...just him moving so fast..that her eyes played tricks with her...he stood to her right..."Thats not what your demonic side was saying...you were so overwhelmed with feelings that you endangered my life as well as yours in that cave...so don't flatter yourself...compared to me your nothing...freezing up because you cannot control your desires...another statement of your inferiority..." he knew that he was being harsh...but he would never follow what his father agreed upon about him and her being together as a couple...she had already almost got him killed twice...

Hotaru whirled toward him and glared at him. That is not my fault. I was never in any danger. You were the one that went in through the back door. If we had simply gone in the correct entrance, we wouldn't have had to deal with the guardian. Whether my beast wants you or not, I do not want you." Whirling, Hotaru grabbed the tree and began to head back toward the village. She was fuming. She was very angry. She didn't care whether Sesshomaru followed her. She tossed back one last statement back at him in anger. "I may be inferior to you Sesshomaru but you will never be man enough for me."

Sesshomaru began to follow her ...curious to see what she was doing...but when they got to the village...there was a group of Nekos waiting out in front...with the one that Sesshomaru threw at the hut..he was limping as he took a step forward pointing at them both...a total of 9 nekos confronted both of them...with weapons drawn..."Capture the girl...the prince wants her...as for the one that harmed the prince...kill him" one leader said to the eight following him...the prince however was limping in the back with a grin...Sesshomaru said something to her..."someone to protect you said.." he stood in front of her...this was a strange side of him...he wanted to show her that he had been thinking about what she said to him about being stronger

Hotaru's gaze had shot immediately to the villagers and saw that most of them were either barricaded in their huts or gone. She could see Mina (the miko) herding people out and into the forest. They had a safe place near the the water. Hina's husband was helping to get the villagers out of their homes and getting them to safety. Her gaze moved to rest on the Prince. Her eyes narrowed. That pompous jerk. he had been after her to claim her as a mate to make his rule permanent. His father even approved the idea. She hated that. After all she was an Inu Youkai. One day she was going to wipe that smig grin off his lips. Before she could step forward though to protect her people, Sesshomaru spoke. She looked at him in surprise as he moved in front of her. Was he actually protecting her? Was this a trick? She didn't know. Her posture had already changed to that of a true killer. Her gaze had become distant and deadly but as she looked on Sesshomaru, her gaze softened in wonder. She kept back behind Sesshomaru but she had moved to stand directly behind him to where she was almost touching him.

The prince became enraged seeing her look at Sesshomaru...the nekos saw this and began to charge him...Sesshomaru dispatched one after the other with simple blows..he dashed forward amongst the crowd and used the tokijin to finish the rest leaving the leader and the prince...Sesshomaru began to approach the leader of the group of thugs...but heard a cry...and saw the prince with a sword against her back...threatening to kill her...the leader thanked the prince and picked up his dual swords..."Sesshomaru what will you do now.."

Hotaru had been so focused on Sesshomaru's moves that she hadn't registered the brat moving. She let out a cry of shock as he grabbed her and placed a sword to her neck. She saw Sesshomaru look over and then back at the leader of the group of nekos. Her eyes widened and she almost snorted. That neko expected her to play hostage. She knew the moment that they were released to live, they would kill many of her people. She could not allow that to happen. Her eyes flashed dangerously as she called on her power. Almost immediately, shadows came up and surrounded herself and the brat. No one would be able to see within or get in. Now in her own element, she slipped from the neko's grasp. Once she moved away from him, she dropped the shadows around her. There was a dark look in her eyes. "You are a fool as usual." Raising her hand, she called on the shadows. "You will regret this." Flicking her fingers, the shadow energy swirled around his head. She wouldn't be able to kill him because that would mean an all out war against her people. She could maim him though. As the shadows fell away from his face, his eyes were blank. She had caused him to go blind. Raising her hand she formed bands of shadows around him and sealed him to a tree. He would be useless now. Turning, she smiled dangerously at the leader of the thugs, lifting a finger that a bit of shadow on it. Everything she had done had happened within three seconds. Her eyes became if anything colder. "I have unfinished business with you. You hurt one of the children." It had been in another village that he had harmed one of the children. She moved forward to stand right behind and next to Sesshomaru. "Lord Sesshomaru, may I have the pleasure?"

Sesshomaru sensed a change in her scent..it was that of a strong demon.. he took a step back...then caught himself..and stopped...he saw her bind the prince and when she requested this one....he stepped aside...she had complete control over her full power...Hotaru...to think that she made me, Sesshomaru, tremble with fear for even a moment...he stood there looking at her...she had all this power the whole time...even though it wasn't more then his...it was much more then any female youkai should have...
