The sound of chimes filled the air, despite not a single one of the metal tubes being present nearby. At first, they sounded like children's laughter, snatched up by the wind and muffled by the sandy dunes that surrounded the Isle. Then, they were replaced by the whispered hush of a lovers promise under an eave. But before the sounds could ever make sense, they were nothing but chimes again, hidden by the howl of the wind.

Around Famine's portal, a strange, thick fog appeared, swirling with indistinct whispers. At first it seemed...disturbing, but relatively harmless. Then two, painfully brilliant blue orbs appeared within it. They were round at first, but they flattened into thin, angry slits, as the fog began to condense around them into a vaguely humanoid form. The last, crumbling vestiges of the creature once known as Riley stepped out from the fog and scanned the area, searching for something. Anything. Everything. What did...she...we...

Hunger. Need. A loneliness so vast and crushing that one mere existence could never contain or endure it.

But there was one who tried.

Well. Shun had planned on going to the den. He was soon met with a strange fog in the area, filled with strange whispers. This seemed rather odd, considering this was a desert area. There shouldn't be any fog in a place so dry. And then... he saw it.

No.

Her.

This eye widened as he saw the large grey and blue entity step out from the fog.

"Riley?" he whispered, wary. The way her body was. It was like Red's. Like the insanity infused beings of Christmas. He took a step back from her, before summoning his daggers. The reaper had been rather unaware that she was taken hold of Insanity, but right now he supposed it didn't matter. He recalled what the hunter said. No known cure. And nothing had saved Red either.

This was no longer Riley.

"That just leaves one option then, I suppose," he uttered coldly before rushing at her. He didn't know the student council president too well, but she couldn't be left like this. The only thing to do was to put her out of her misery.

All alone.

The voices continued to ebb and flow, in and out of hearing range, except hers. Hers just sounded like a sigh in the air, passing over Shun and blowing away.

Ssssssshh.. it's all right. She hovered slowly down, bending her giant, wispy body very slowly until her face was a few feet from the reaper who'd just stabbed at her. It doesn't hurt, anymore. Her fingers reached out, each almost the size of him, and they waited. We will show you.

There was one distinct voice in that cloud of many, and yet it was still like a whisper in the wind. And just like that, her grand face was set before him, not too far off. Shun took a step back as her fingers reached out for him, raising his daggers defensively in turn.

"Then you will have a painless death," he said to her quietly. There was no hint of malice in his voice. It was simply stated. However, it felt.. odd to think about killing a fellow student. Not a human. Not a hunter. One of Halloween. Not even an enemy of his. This wasn't just any normal circumstance, though. As far as he was concerned, there was only one way out of insanity. There had only been one way they had been defeating those in its grasp before.

Quite frankly, he respected Riley. Or at least who she was. If anything, lingering in this.. state was not what she deserved. Moreso, it would probably be best if few knew of this. She was strong, proud, and deserved to remember as such.

Not like this.

One moment Aymet was watching the commotion. Fighting, yelling, plants. Riley screaming before exploding into vines and red flowers. A hunter taking advantage of his distraction to dissipate him in a single hit. The last thing he'd seen was her leaping at him in midair, her glowing sword pointed dead center at him. There wasn't even time to shout. It was all over.

When he came to next, it was strangely, ominously quiet. He felt weaker than he had been in weeks, but he was whole, not a bone out of place. Constrained again. Where was he now-- the portals? Who was talking? Had they won?

The fire flickered to life in his eye sockets again. He saw her. Riley. Or what may once have been Riley. Misty grey and ghostly, like the shade he'd seen in a mirror here, deep in Death. Or really, more like the mysterious fog that had attacked the school earlier that year, right down to the blue eyes. She dominated the room, towering over its only other occupant.

"Shun!" Aymet called, half-running and half-gliding toward the reaper, ready to attack or defend if necessary. The full, horrifying realization of what had happened to Riley hadn't sunk in yet. He was still itching to get back to the fight in famine, to protect the others. But this place looked bad. Really ominously bad.

He kept a careful distance between himself and Riley's huge face. He didn't really know what to say or ask, just stared. Could he fight Riley like this? She was one of them. She wasn't the enemy.......

Israfel had not been expecting hunters. He hadn't been expecting a room to crush him either. But when he'd come to, there was sand. And a lack of ponies. Also sand. Lots of it in places her really didn't want it to go, (like his pants). When he looked up her didn't expect to see her. Mush less see her like that. At first he didn't understand. Then he thought about. Something had happened and in the back of his mind, the part that would form thoughts that were whole and coherent- that part understood that something had changed. That she was not safe. That candied brains were not going to help her.

But the front part of him? The part that hoped as ignored the rest say only Riley. He was unable to see the danger. He just saw Riley. Granted, it was a very LARGE Riley but to him, it was just Riley. Letting out a chirp he flew, trying to fly level with her face, his own in a grin. "Hi Riley! You got very big! And grey. I will have to make you a new dress." He paused looking her up and down. "Oh jack even your squishes got huge, Riley I am impressed but that will be very hard to measure without proper support."

"........."

Stepping through the portal, Poke looked up at the huge mother jacking Riley. She was back in a humanoid form, skull pin firmly clasped to her shirt. This made the realization that there was a huge a** jacking Riley in the room a hole lot more potent.

Not to mention that instead of the purple she had expected, there was now grey. No purple, just grey. And much hugeness. With a frown, she stepped around the mindflayer, but did not attack. Did she know her? Not really, but she knew she was a student of amityville, and as such was reluctant to do anything to harm her.

But then, she saw her lean a little too close to Shun for comfort. She wasn't sure if she was going to harm the reaper, but it seemed likely. And in any case, Shun was a friend of Mitsu, and she knew the lycan would be upset if any harm came to him.

Still....was it even right to attack her? With a sigh, she moved forwards, one leg coming up to kick at the mindflyers feet. It...didn't do to much damage, but then it didn't worry her that much.

((posting epically on airport wifi from London lol hi I won't be fighting but character reaction had to happen. U mad bro?))

"Mia cara!!"

The plague doctor's voice was a shriek of anguish, tearing at the inside of its throat. It had felt the thrill of cold fear and rage earlier, as it saw her torn apart - but dissipating, while terrible, was not an end. It could calm its emotions, retract into a scientific sort of stillness and sanity. It could exist and know that she would appear before it again, unharmed at least in body...

... But she was more than body. She was also - primarily - mind. And that mind, that shape rising before it like a fell doppelgänger, was breaking. Shattering.

Broken.

It reached out to her with everything it had, it's entire being nothing but one long, drawn out cry of pain. It could not lose her, it could not - and yet, part of it knew that she was already lost. Its empathy found and heard nothing but a blinding and deafening cacophony of voices, stuffed into her psyche until there was none of HER left - only her stretched and drowned-

No.

NO.

It. Could. Not. Lose. Her.

"Mia cara, please-" It cried out with all the force it possessed, falling to its knees. There was a tremendous sense of pressure, battering against it. It could find no trace of her soft, welcoming embrace in the white wall before it, stealing her shape. It couldn't think, couldn't move-

"Take me with you - don't leave me alone!! Please-"

Mitsu had stepped through the portal disoriented by the sight that greeted her. Already the Isle of Famine was different than she remembered and she had been here earlier in the day. A dense fog shrouded the area and Mitsu couldn't make out more than the whispers of words before they turned to simple chimes. Ears folding back she looked around nervously trying to make sense of the area.

"S..Shun..." She spoke quietly keeping close to the reaper's back. "Something is wro-"

That's when she saw something move in the fog, a being coming into existence, tall and formidable. She had started to fall into stance ready for an attack but was only thrown off guard when she saw who the being was.

"R...Riley?" The words were choked out in confusion, the lycan taking a step back. What had happen to her? How had she ended up this way? Like Red. "Riley!?" She wondered if she could hear her, wondered if her mind could make sense of anything. Red had been so confused would Riley be suffering the same?

Mitsu watched stiffly as the Illithid approached her reaper, tense at the size difference wondering what was going to happen. It wasn't until Shun attacked that she let out a yelp. "Shun, don't! You could destroy her!" That's what had happened to Red. The teacher had never been given a chance to survive she had just been taken down before a hope of curing her could be realized. It was possible wasn't it? They could change her back. They had to. Otherwise if they took Riley down now she could very well disappear forever.

Stepping up to Shun she tried to stand between him and Riley hoping to deflect an attack if the Mindflayer decided to retaliate. What else could she do? Could she really attack her if it came down to it? Mitsu wasn't sure.

As he stepped through the portal Yin did not find himself arriving at some little safe haven to offer respite. He instead found himself among a small group of students, facing a giant. A real giant this time, not just Alexander being stupidly tall.

Yin had never fought Red, had not seen what had happened to her. He had only heard some of the rumors. But here was a giant, and just sweeping his gaze across he could see a student on the ground, and another student trying to protect someone.

Enemy.

A quick glance back showed that not only had Alexander shadowed him here, but Miss Taryn as well. He had to defend them. And that meant attacking.

The great thing about giants? There were a lot of places to hit. He rushed forward, smacking with an open palm, knowing that it was probably little damage to one so huge but determined to do his part. He had to stop simply standing by as others were injured on his watch. He had to do something.

A hell of a room to pick, boils! Taryn gasped, looking to the looming figure of what... was, or had once been their class president. She had never really spoken to the ghoul, but what she had seen of her implied that in some twisted way this was somewhat in-character for her.

Sort of.

Deeply reminded if Professor Red but now involved, Taryn thought there was only one thing they could do and hope for the best. Dissipation could mean survival in the portal area, but as it was she was destroying... everything! She was clearly tainted by Insanity and... oh, Jack...

"I'M SORRY, MISS PRESIDENT!"
she yelped, tossing a rock. It missed. Crap.

Alex came in not far behind Yin, and it seemed that Taryn had followed them as well. That was both somewhat comforting, knowing that she was alive and well, and horrifying, since now Alexander had just one more person to worry about while they rushed headlong into danger after danger.

Speaking of danger, that was one mighty large and dangerous looking yet oddly familiar being shrouded in fog just over there. Alex's eyes raked over the scene, taking in the students who appeared to be on the offensive, as well as those who were not doing anything but shouting, though many appeared quite alarmed.

Yin, of course, had to be his usual stupid and self sacrificing self and leap towards the battle, putting himself in harms way almost immediately. Taryn was lifting a rock and heaving it, ineffectually, against what Alex assumed was the threat in the room. Whatever the giant was, it was reminiscent of the being that they had fought during the events at Christmas, as well as the ones that had attacked them out of the fog during the trials of death. That had to make it...her?...dangerous, right? But...had Taryn just called her the president?

"Oh..." Alex's mouth dropped open, recognition finally settling in. She was a student, or had been. Though the zomboil had never actually formally met her, he had seen her, in classes, on scarentines day, and just in general passing at the school. "Yin..Yin I don't think we should.." He took a few steps forward reaching out, unsure of what to do. She was probably dangerous, but she was also a student. She was one of them.

In other words, Alex wanted to attack, but he was not sure it was the right thing to do.

Roch stepped through the portal, then stopped, staring up blankly at the massive version of someone he knew pretty well. He went still, his guitar in his hand, his mind turning around and around in circles as he tried to figure out what in the hell was going on.

"Riley?" he asked. "What in the hell are you doing?" He reached down, picking up a stone and tossing it at her. "OYE!! Turn back to normal!!"

It didn't take long for others to come by after his first strike. He heard Aymet and saw Mitsu coming on in. There were a few others but there mostly was Malodore, who seemed to be completely and utterly distressed. Not that Shun could blame it. He furrowed his brow as he watched the plague doctor break down in front of him.

His gaze shifted towards Mitsu briefly, but paused before speaking.

"If we leave her like this, we risk others getting infected most likely," he said quietly, "Not to mention.. the christmas beings had become rather hostile once they were turned were they not?"

Aymet almost attacked, but he couldn't, his claws falling short of the monstrous Riley. He pulled back immediately to stand by Shun and Mitsu, who he recognized as friendlies. "Infected??"

"What's wrong with her?" he asked them both. Aymet didn't really know what Insanity looked like despite the talk and the questions he'd heard. It sounded like a mysterious plague, sure, but he definitely hadn't expected it to be like this. He wanted to ask them if they were sure it was really Riley, but. There wasn't a lot of question to that. Riley had been dissipated by the vines after a big freakout, and here she was ten times worse than before. Deep down he didn't think seeing this version of her was just a coincidence.

"Is there any other way to stop her?" he asked in the hope that someone else knew something he didn't about this. He tried to give them some time to think before he stated the obvious and the depressing. "Everyone is still fighting hunters down here - I don't think we have a lot of time to look for 'another way' for... Riley... if we want to stop them. This is bad, but I think whatever the hunters are up to here is worse."

Well, probably equally as bad as whatever the entire population of horsemen were up to conveniently not being around for this. They were really on their own here. No teachers. No adults. No one but each other. And there were limits even to that.
