Wings beat on the air, throwing down spirals of wind into the thermals that held him up above it all. Iascaire drifted lazily, far above his mistress down below. He was her second eyes since she couldn't move quite as well as she did before that earthquake that took everything from their pride. Everything and everyone from her life.

A sigh puffed from her barrel chest, kicking up dust from how low her head was hanging to the ground. She was sore, sore and hungry. Étaín, sometimes called Étaín "Spöke", was the last of her family and had finally, after many months of searching, given up on her quest to find her adopted family. Even if they were alive somewhere, she wasn't sure where that was or how to get to it. If it was even possible, or if they even wanted to be found.

Sure they had adopted her when her original family had been killed, but did they still want her? That was enough for Étaín to think about and finally Iascaire had taken it upon himself to guide her out of the valley she had searched for so long. Now the two of them were on a new quest, to find someplace far from where they'd known. Someplace on the edges of the horizon, where they would find happiness and the chance to lay all day with a full belly.

Did they know that this was an illusion? Absolutely, but the two of them were half starved and it seemed just as feasible an idea as staying where they had been. If there was even a hope of freedom from their past and relaxation in their future, it seemed a lot brighter than present situations would allow.

Étaín knew deep in her heart that this was the correct choice, but she was stiff and sore, exhausted and run down. She had walked for so long with so little in her emaciated stomach that she had lost a little of that spark. Was she still gruff? Absolutely, but that didn't change the fact that she was tired. When Iascaire mouthed off, as often he did with his biting attitude, Étaín was the first to snort at him and smack him with the puff on the end of her tail.

That vulture got on her nerves occasionally, but she loved him like a best friend or a brother. If she had to go out into the world to die on the horizon she would rather do it with Iascaire.

Kivuli decided he didn't like the heat all to well. Though he barely remembered the time he could see his reflection when he lost his eyesight, he remembered he was a very dark lion. And the open skies above didn't help him at all. However by the temperature change as he grew closer to the valley-area he noticed his change of scenery.

He could feel not to far off, company was biting at his heels. Kivuli had no family left; and if he did they were well gone and somewhere completely where he wasn't. Not that he minded where they were anyways. He was born to be a leader and was only given to the world by his parents as a 'designer' son. He had the dark coat of royalty from the pride he was in. The green was just decoration to him. As opposed to Étaín's light colouration; she would have been stomped upon.
He was also a very large brute, built to due to his travelings. He sure didn't look like a laze-around male.

But colour and shade of fur was long past him. Kivuli only lived on feeling, sound and smell. Sometimes presence. When he felt the rush of water not to far off either, he passed Étaín by a good distance to find it's springs. Acting unaware.

It wasn't that she was weak, it wasn't that she was trying to get away from doing the things that she knew she had to do, but Étaín knew that if she didn't get some water in her body she wouldn't make it much further. They had been walking ever since she left the pride... months ago. Now they were stuck on the outskirts of some desert far from the mountain range she'd called home once. And why did it have to be so hot out here? Lifting her tail, Étaín curled it up almost on top of her back and changed her course.

This signal had been worked out long ago, so that Iascaire would know she was going to go somewhere different. The vulture twisted his angle and glanced down to the ground as he made for the river that was flowing. A large lion came into his black eyed view and Iascaire smiled to himself. Finally, someone could help them. Maybe this large black and minty lion knew somewhere that they could go to get Étaín off of her worn down feet. The poor girl had just lost a foot pad the other day and was refusing to limp even.

Something had to change in life soon, right?

Spiraling down through the thermals up high, Iascaire floated to the lions level and smiled at him. He didn't know that it would go unnoticed, but words always came hard to the vulture.

"Excuse me? Sir?" Iascaire spoke in as friendly a way as he could.

Étaín had watched her best friend fly towards the lion she'd seen when she changed course. The two didn't speak that often, they trusted one another to do the right thing and they valued the silence that came with knowing that neither of them had to speak to let their appreciation and love be known to the other. However, she did worry when the vulture took it upon himself to get others opinions on things that they did. Surely he was asking directions or something along those lines, but she still worried about strange lions. Especially after the group that had come to her old pride and tried to take it over themselves...

He drank from the stream and sat upon the ground. He really couldn't find the time or day but he just kept on going. He had left his pride sometime ago, and had found siblings that tended to stick to his hinds. They had just decided to veer off and find some food and maybe some amusement for a bit. He was full grown, like they were. So he knew they'd take care of one another.

He felt the approach of someone else, lifting his head lightly, he heard the wing set of a vulture. Slightly tensing he sighed gently. Not another God, they were showing to be humble and tended to enjoy pestering him or just talking, which he didn't mind.. But this was a Vulture. The dynamics of the flap were smaller.

He didn't notice the smile, of course but he flicked his ear to the bird. In recognition? The dark larger male kept his seating as he felt the other presence come close. He smelt the female and then heard her words. "Yes?" He called out to her. He didn't speak to often either. And was usual in his dark solitude. But since Katori and Kathane kept to his side he had been speaking often.

"What can I do for you young one?" His voice was barreltoned. Low and very kind. Yet masculine.

Étaín tilted her head, she could see the large lion's mouth moving, but she couldn't read muzzles like some other lions she knew could. The petite lioness wasn't deaf and wasn't blind, she was just... well small. Very small. That didn't mean that she wasn't very strong and very hard working though. Étaín had made a reputation for herself in her last pride with being a hard worker and one of the best fishers that had been born to that pride in all their years. If there was a fish or a crab in the water, Étaín could catch it.

And if she couldn't, then Iascaire could. The vulture was almost an anhinga when it came to hunting fish and he was colored like one on top of it.

"My friend and I were traveling through the lands trying to find somewhere to rest and belong." Well mostly for her, but Iascaire would like the relaxation too. "The two of us have been traveling for weeks and now the pads on the bottoms of her feet are worn down because she refuses to stop walking nearly all day. Is there any place around here that you know of?"

The small lioness finally limped up to the large lion and the vulture and she proceeded to put both front feet in the water before stopping for a drink. Étaín was so worn down she just couldn't bring herself to stop moving. If she stopped moving, she was afraid she wouldn't ever move again.

Maybe it would help to get some food? Her ribs were already standing out on her sides and her hip bones protruded further than they should have. If she got some food in her that might help, maybe the larger lion near her would like some food as well?
