Z’fer stood, hands tucked into his pockets, at high tide mark, seaweed and debris stretching across the beach to either side of him. Malvren lay behind him, it’s marble cliffs pale against the overcast sky. The wind rushed in from the shore, tossing his braid and moaning across the weyr openings. The sound echoed eerily across the Weyr. A storm was moving in but it didn’t deter the bronze rider. He faced the ocean and it’s horizon of darkening clouds, breathing deeply of the salty air. Sometimes he missed his home Hold of Marsitas. He missed standing on a rocking deck, fighting the waves and wind, never knowing if he would make it back to port. The resemblance to riding a dragon didn’t elude him though. He felt for Calanoth, the bronze was half-dozing in their weyr, comfortable and out of the wind. Z’fer had been anticipating this day. It had taken some time for the leaders to re-arrange and assign the new wings but it was finally done. Immediately he’d put out the announcement of a meeting for the next day. He couldn’t deny his excitement and sense of smug accomplishment. Yes the circumstances that lead to his nomination as Wingleader were unfortunate, but still he was here and Z’fer was not the kind of man to consider that it might be because there were so few others to choose from. He’d always deserved this position and only now had he the opportunity to prove it. With Thread no longer a children’s story but an actual threat, Z’fer felt himself ready to preform that task which all riders were born to do. He blinked as a fine misty rain began to fall. The tide was still out a ways but the foaming waves were brown and grey with churned sand. He wouldn’t cancel the meeting just because of the weather. Dragonfolk were hearty. If they couldn’t stand a little wind and rain then they didn’t belong in the air. He turned away from the ocean, looking to see if any of them were going to arrive on time. The votes had been cast and he had been grateful to not have won. There was a lot of pressure in the role and with so little experience he had not felt ready... a sentiment echoed by curious bronze. Perhaps, in time, they would earn the right or another opportunity would arise. For now, however, his new Wingleader had called a meeting - prompt and sharp - and it had encouraged the serious rider.
Among the first to arrive, H'ex wandered down the beach and wondered just why they'd been summoned to the shores as a storm was blowing in. Just in case, he'd dressed in his riding leathers and smiled as they eased the bite of the wind and rain.
Nodding as he approach Z'fer, he spoke only a few words before taking up a position near a boulder, "Greetings, Wingleader."
Perched on the edge of the cliff above, his great bronze was peering over the edge with no shame as he watched His and the Wingleader interact. H'ex was better at speaking now but he would speak for the rider if needed too! He enjoyed bespeaking people, it always seemed to surprise them greatly.

Wykla had been mildly surprised to find out which wing she and Kameth had been placed. She'd only met the man twice before. An ironic smile twitched across her lips as she thought about those two times. Once during Threadfall, and again after her speech. Now look where they'd gotten to. A drudge had dutifully delivered the note for the meeting to her. Both Kameth and herself could sense the storm coming in, and she grinned. Wykla dressed for flying in cold, rainy conditions. After the Wingleader had his speal, they were going to take a jaunt out into that storm.
With Kameth at her side and a wing politely extended over His to shield her from the worst of the wet, the pair made their way down to the beach. Nor were they alone. A fair of lizards twirled about in excitement. The water making their hides gleam. On her shoulders, Wykla allowed the youngest pair, a crimson and a gold, to ride. She could sense the blue dragon looking off into the distance at the storm.
How does it look? His eyesight at long distance was far better than hers. I hope this meeting is not long. Which meant he was eager to go fly in the storm. The scoring had kept him out of the skies longer than he liked. Wykla grinned and nodded agreement. They would need to strengthen themselves up after lounging around.
The sight of two men standing at the meeting place, made her pause. She watched them for a moment. One she recognized as Z'fer, and the other she wasn't as sure of. There would be plenty of time to get to know her knew wingmates. Wykla straightened up and approached the two. "Morning." She gave a quick bow to both after seeing their shoulder knots and both rode bronzes.

Adi had been delighted when the new wings were announced - not that she hadn't liked her old one, and it was still sad that they'd needed new wings at all, but they were going to be with M'cel and Tairoth! And P'zul and Nnith, they were nice, too. She didn't know a thing about their new wingleader or wingsecond, but that didn't bother her. It was exciting, really! Meeting new people and making friends always was...and if she had her way, she'd be making friends with everyone in her wing. Or trying to, at least.
Dressed for the brewing weather, but with her hood still down, she walked down the beach beside her dragon, not far behind Kameth and His. Mazamath had offered to act as an 'umbrella' for his rider, but she'd waved him off. She liked the rain!
The young woman pushed damp hair out of her eyes as they arrived at the meeting place, and offered a bright smile to Wykla and the bronzeriders. "Hey guys!"
Mazamath rumbled pleasantly and settled himself. The blue was less enthusiastic than His, but still friendly and informal.

Two sets of whirling eyes lay trained on the bronzerider where he stood on the beach. One from the crevices of the cliff face and another peering out of one of the Weyrling weyrs down at the small crowd that was forming.
While the rider was away Bolth and Fasha would play. Today though they were playing detective. Bolth was familiar with this set of actions vaguely recalling that him and his had done something similar to this before the little crimson had joined their ranks.
Now currently though said little crimson was chirpily complaining in Bolth's mind about how it was cold, and wet and why did they have to check this two-legger wingless one out? He didn't look like anything special. Certainly not nearly good enough to be dealing with Theirs. Then again no one in Fasha's eyes was good enough to deal with Theirs.
See if you can get in closer dear pretty one. Bolth asked appealing to the young crimson's vanity. They would have to be careful about their little investigation lest C'rci realize what they were up too. Then again she had been pushing him to get out a little more and do things with Fasha to distract himself while she was off doing chores.
This though was probably not what she had meant.
Grumbling the little crimson took wing, a slim figure as she dove from her crevice on the cliff face winging down to hide and peer out from amongst the rocks. She must take great pains not to be spotted be the other flits. Especially those of the many flitted two-legger and her horde or the little black that belonged to Z'fer. They might recognize her and that would be no good. Bolth had been very clear that she was not to be spotted. He had doubted her hiding skills. She needed to show him just how good of a hidey sneaky flit she could be.
All the while Bolth preened about how cleverly he had managed to snare the little crimson into helping him. It had been hard, but he had used the trick he had seen his use before on her. First he had to tell her she couldn't help and couldn't sneak then when she was hissing to do so grudgingly allow her to help. His called it reverse logic or some such thing.
What are they doing? Do you see anything? Bolth inquired his eyes whirling with curiosity. Fasha merely retorted that the two-leggers were making two-legger noise and standing around in the rain like silly beasts. These ones were silly beasts. Why were they watching silly beasts?
Perhaps if we know why this one flusters Ours so we can ask him to stop. I'm sure he doesn't mean to do so. Bolth replied, always one to think the best of people. Even people who made his usually unflappable rider one big pile of nerves.

Wingleader, Z'fer smiled and gave a sharp nod in acknowledgement to H'ex. As other's trailed in he saw Wykla, the young bluerider and recently appointed Assistant Candidate Master. He was a little surprised she'd been assigned to his wing, but pleased none the less. At least he knew she was a decent rider, even for one so young. She was dressed in her leathers he assumed for warmth. Through the misty rain he could see the healing threadscars not only on Kameth's blue hide but on many of the other dragons that had joined their riders.
"Morning!" He returned her greeting, including Adi and the rest of the assembled as well. Not everyone was there yet but the smell of the wind warned him he didn't have much time before the storm really set in. He'd make a note of those who didn't show. He spotted his Second in the crowd and gestured for the man to take his place by Z'fer's side.
"Hello!" He called out and clapped his hands together to gain the milling rider's attention. "For those who don't know me I am Z'fer, Rider of Bronze Calanoth. This is my Second G'drin of Brown Follith! Should you need anything you will come to us!" He raised his voice above the wind. " I wanted us all here today so you can see your Wing as a whole. Fix these Riders in your mind, learn to recognize them not only by the knots on their shoulders but by their faces as well. They're not just names on a hide, they're your brothers and your sisters. While we're all Malvren Riders, only YOU are Storm Riders! I want you to begin thinking Us, and We, not just I. Because what affects you affects your wing, and what affects your wing, affects you. We'll all be here for you but you need to be there for us as well." He paused, looking slowly at each of the rider's assembled.
"This won't be easy at first. Everyone's been thrown out of their comfort zones and our normal routines, that haven't changed for numerous Turns, are now obliterated. We're getting used to new rolls in life, new leaders and new challenges. On top of that we're at the beginning of a new Pass that few of us were truly prepared for. That will change though! Through training and experience we will learn to work together and fly as a single unit, rather than a group of individuals. Every one of you knows what to do, we only need to refine our techniques and as I said, learn to work together. I hope every single one of you takes this seriously. This is our sworn duty to Pern! By Impressing you took on the responsibility of saving our planet from Thread and now you are called to that duty!" He grinned, his demeanor relaxing as he wrapped up his speech.
"I'll call another meeting soon to begin our training. By tomorrow I'll have our formation drawn up. It will serve for the next Fall and after that we can see where we need work. I'll post it in the Lower Caverns by the kitchens at breakfast. For now, introduce yourselves, get familiar with one another. You'll fly better together if you know who's flying alongside you. Trust takes time to build so lay the foundations now. That's all I have to say for now." Z'fer opened his arms wide, releasing the riders to once again talk amongst themselves, he hoped to catch a few words with each of them before they departed though. He and G'drin would get together after they were done here and prepare the initial formation.
(( This wing will have around 30 members, I'm assuming all the NPC's are here and at least most if not all of the PC characters as well. It's not just you three that Z'fer is talking too))

Wykla had just settled into her waiting stance, still under Kameth's wing, when another familiar face and dragon showed up. She nodded to her fellow female bluerider. "Hi Adi. How's Mazamath?" So two of that trio of blues were in the same wing. Wykla was more than willing to stand on the edges of the group and observe them. Her eyes skimming over the riders she knew and didn't know. Until a rumble from Kameth caught her attention.
The blue was looking off toward a crevasse. His rumble tolerant amusement. Mine, I believe there is a lurker. It is Bolth. Wykla's brow wrinkled as the dragon mentioned a lurker. Who would be watching? Had Z'fer told those not in Storm Riders? Ah! The teen swiveled on her heel and called out. "Bolth! What do you think you're doing? Where is C'rci?"
Shortly after that Z'fer started speaking and Wykla kept an eye on the small blue as she listened. She made note of the second and his name. The wing seemed a bit short, and the girl wondered who hadn't shown. Obviously Z'fer would know, and it really wasn't her business. Still. Was it just the weather, or were those people going to make trouble for the wing? His comment on 'us' and 'we' shortly after that thought made her smirk. Too bad those absent missed it.
Wykla rested a hand against Kameth's foreleg. He wanted them to mingle? She sighed. Her head came up with a sharp glint in her eyes at the mention of Thread and duty. The dragon's deep rumble echoed her thought. Hmmmm yes, training with this group. Should be interesting, at least. Once again she looked around at the group.

Z'fer shared a couple quiet words with his Second, G'drin before making his own way into the crowd. He made a couple introductions, putting names to faces and marking who had come out as called despite the weather. The turnout wasn't bad though he was disappointed to find that some of his riders were infact missing. Wykla though was easy to spot, sheltered as she was by Kameth. He was lifted his hand in a small wave as he approached. "Hello Kameth." He greeted her dragon first before turning to face the young girl. "Wykla, congratulations on your new position. You excited?"

Wykla was distracted from the young blue as Kameth gave a warning rumble. She turned back toward the group in time to see the reason. The Wingleader was making his way toward them. The bluerider gave a smart salute.
"Wingleader. Thank you, and congratulations on your achievement." She thought about it for a moment. "It was certainly an unexpected choice by the Weyr. Perhaps wary is the word I'd use. I'm sure there will be difficulties at first. Rest assured my candidatemaster duties will not interfere with wing performance. I will attend every training session, unless prior arrangements are made." Beside her Kameth rumbled his approval.

Z'fer returned her salute, holding out his hand to clasp hers in welcome. He nodded as he listened to her. "Good. I don't doubt you'll do fine. Just keep me informed as to your schedule." Z'fer eyed her gear again raising an eyebrow. He gestured to her riding jacket. "You going somewhere?" The question was curious rather than judgmental.
Calanoth stayed in his weyr but kept watch on the group of riders and dragons below. While Z'fer was speaking to Kameth's rider, Calanoth's attention was fixated on the Greens, having learned from Z'fer who was assigned to their wing. He'd already assessed the Bronze and Brown dragons, deciding how much competition they posed to him.

Wykla shook Z'fer's hand firmly without trying to overpower him. "Of course. I'm sure something can easily be worked out." She gave a grin as he noticed her gear, then nodded toward the storm. "It's been awhile since we been out in one. Kameth is itching to go stretch his wings." Besides watching storms, the pair had developed a liking for riding on the wings of storms. The turbulent air currents made for interesting flying. "Ever been out in one?"

Z'fer looked skeptical, a half grin spreading across his face. "Really now? Flying in a storm?" He was admittedly impressed by the young pair. "Calanoth doesn't care for them much. I grew up in Marsitas. My father had his own ship and I was navigator before I Impressed. Storms are nothing new to me." He looked out wistfully across the sea, his eyes glazed as Calanoth cut into his thoughts.
~ No.~ Calanoth settled deeper into his wallow.
~ Why not? Gonna let a blue show you up? ~ He grinned, challenge in his mental voice.
~ He is not showing me up. It is warm in our weyr and I am still full. I don't intend on going out in THAT. ~
~ Lazy lump. You're getting to be as bad as Klah! ~ Z'fer laughed, shaking his head as he returned to the moment. "Calanoth and I will join you in the next one. He fed earlier and is determined not to move today." Z'fer paused a moment. "Hmm you've actually given me a good idea." He dropped his voice conspiratorially. "What do you think of sending this bunch on a training flight out in the weather next time? Could be useful, learning how to accommodate for unpredictable air currents and visibility."
Inaudible to the riders below Calanoth rumbled with displeasure. His unhappy feelings broadcast to those nearby.

She answered his half grin with one of her own. "Aye. I've always loved watching the storms come in, and Kameth adores flying. They create a lot of interesting turbulance. It's good practice and keeps us trim." Wykla gave a soft chuckle. "Well each dragon to his own I guess." She arched her brow as she noticed his eyes glaze in the classic symptom of bespeaking one's dragon.
Wykla was impressed he'd been on a ship. How many storms had he weathered on it? Now if only his dragon would match up to him. She didn't hide her grin, "your company is certainly welcomed. Shall I have Kameth give Calanoth a call next time? Ah, can't say I can totally blame him there." The bluerider leaned in to listen to his idea. Her surprised briefly crossed her face.
"You'd do that? I think it'd be a great idea actually. We can't always expect ideal weather when fighting Thread. It's better they deal with harsh conditions now without that threat so they're comfortable with it when Thread does strike."
Kameth glanced off toward the storm then back to his rider. You are not making Calanoth happy. He sounded amused by the bronze's reluctance to fly.

There was however no Bolth to be seen for the little steely blue was safely tucked away in his Weyr peering down at the procession. Fasha though had frozen in her hiding spot ready to between at a seconds notice if startled.
Hold still. Perhaps she will not notice you and leave us to our work. The blue supplied ever the helpful one as Fasha mentally grumbled at him.

~ I would have no trouble flying if I weren't full! Storms do not bother me, I just don't feel like being thrown about with a heavy stomach! ~ Calanoth didn't want to lose face in front of his new wing. He was a bronze! He and Z'fer loved pushing themselves into crazy things, but right now he was warm and comfortable and nothing was going to move him from that spot.
Z'fer couldn't keep the grin off his face. Oh the big dragon was in for it now. Z'fer wasn't going to let him live this moment of laziness down. "Exactly what I was thinking Wykla. Too bad we'll have to wait for the weather to co-operate but I will plan that in. Have Kameth let Calanoth know next time you go flying for fun!" He'd noticed Kameth stealing glances at the storm. "You two can go whenever you're ready. The sooner this little party breaks up the sooner I can collect on my bet!"
