"Wow...Fathom, look at all these buildings! And these people! Have you ever seen so many?" The girl's eyes were wide with wonder once more. It couldn't have been more obvious that she was not used to the cityscape.
Fathom looked bored as he kept up along side his young, female trainer. Yes, in fact, he had. On certain days the beach was filled with more humans than he cared to see in a lifetime. If that wasn't bad enough, he saw more of their bare flesh exposed than he would have liked, period. The casual city-dwellers with their full attire were much preferable to look at.
"I bet they're all pokemon trainers too," she continued, oblivious to Fathom's bemused smile and accompanying eye roll. "Can you imagine how much stronger we could get here? We'll never run out of opponents to challenge!"
Well, at least that was a perk. Fathom always fancied a good challenge. He didn't know if he could expect much from trainer-raised pokemon, since he'd only just recently been caught himself, but it was worth a try. Maybe it would be more fun than he thought. His young trainer's enthusiasm was getting to be contagious. By the time they paused on a park bench to take it all in, he was already scouting the area for potential opponents.

It was about that time that a young man with long raven hair was passing through the park. A sword swung at his side, dangling from his left hand, as he went. While a strange looking Growlithe accompanied him. The dog Pokemon was blue and white with a very pronounced scar over his closed left eye.
Once again Yuri was exploring the city. There was a lot of city to explore after all, and if he was going to be spending any length of time here, he might as well get familiar with it.
Minding their own business, he and Repede passed by the bench in which Fathom and his trainer had parked themselves.

Tymiko gaped at the sight of the sword, her legs swinging back and forth over the edge of the chair as she watched the pair pass. She wondered if the man wearing it really used the weapon in battle or if it was merely for show. However, she was far too shy to ask.
Her Vaporeon, on the other hand, was focused on the Growlithe. Was that a Growlithe? He'd never seen a fire-type colored so strangely before. A sly look came over him as he watched the pokemon and trainer pass. "Vapor! Poreon!" he called, bounding off the bench and after the pair.
"Fathom! Wait, where are you going?!" his trainer called in distress. "Don't bother people!"

Yuri just kept walking, but Repede paused, hearing the approach of the Vaporeon before it even spoke. He tilted his one eye back towards him and bared his teeth in a low growl. This caused Yuri to stop and look back. "Hm? What is it Repede?" And then his eyes fell on the Vaporeon.
"" Repede asked back of the other Pokemon.
Yuri looked up as he heard the frantic cries of a girl. "This your Pokemon?" he asked, gesturing with his hand that held the sword, towards Fathom.

Fathom answered with some humor. He realized it must have been a little strange, but so was a blue and white Growlithe and a trainer with a sword. He lashed his tail towards the Growlithe's human companion. are a fire-type, aren't you?>
Tymiko panted slightly when she caught up, her hands on her knees as she caught her breath. Looking up at the man's question, she smiled sheepishly and shifted nervously from foot to foot. "Yeah...sorry, I just got him recently. He's never done that before, though." She blinked at the sword. "Um...isn't that dangerous to be carrying around like that? It's not real, is it?"
The girl was so distracted by the sword that it took her a moment to catch sight of the pokemon at the man's feet. "Awww!" she cried, her hands itching to pick up the puppy pokemon. But she didn't. "It's so cute! Can...can I pet him?" Blue eyes looked up pleadingly into dark, obsidian ones.
Fathom blinked too as the sword was thrust in his direction. He swatted it away irritably with a slap of his finned tail. he sighed, though he knew the human wouldn't likely understand him. He hoped he'd at least catch his meaning.
the water-type told the Growlithe with an easy-going smile.

" " Repede replied back calmly. "" That comment referring to the human next to him, obviously. They did seem to stick out in this place, as they were often asked questions about the sword, Yuri's style of dress, or the way Repede himself looked.
As Tymiko approached though, Repede's ears folded back and he backed away with an annoyed whine at the girl's expressed desire to pet him. He sat a few feet away, tilting his head into the air, while mouthing a pen that was currently hanging out the side of his maw.
"It's only dangerous if you don't know how to use it," Yuri replied, which obviously meant that the weapon was indeed real. He then blinked once as the Vaporeon swatted at the sheathed katana. "Touche." He hadn't meant to get the sword in the Vaporeon's face, but he turned it up to instead rest the weapon atop his shoulder.
Yuri then glanced at Repede who had put some distance between himself and the girl. "Repede doesn't really like strangers."
"" was the Growlithe's reply to the Vaporeon's question of his name.

Fathom asked with mild amusement, tilting his head. was your trainer, a fire-type against a water-type isn't much of a contest.>
The girl hesitated as the canine backed away before laughing. "I can see that," she giggled in response to Yuri's comment, watching the Growlithe chew on the pen. "Okay, then, Sir Repede. I'm Tymiko. Nice to meet you," she told the fire-type, beaming. "See? Now we're not strangers anymore."
"This is Fathom," Ty said, gesturing to the eeveeloution conversing with the unusually-colored Growlithe. "Sorry he came to pester you and Repede. He's been pretty eager since we started practicing battles with wild pokemon." She held out a hand. "You can call me Ty, if you like. What's your name?"

"" Repede replied to Fathon as he sat there, looking at the Vaporeon. "" It was certainly safe to say that Yuri and Repede had a unique sort of relationship. The Growlithe then snorted, as if he'd been slighted, and turned a hard look on the other Pokemon. ""
Hearing his name from the girl, Repede then looked in her direction and barked once. However, he didn't show any sign of getting up to approach her either.
"No harm done," Yuri said, brushing off the girl's apology for her Pokemon. He then looked own as she offered her hand. Again with the handshakes? Removing his right hand from his hip, he took her hand to shake it. "I'm Yuri."

Fathom replied with a nod. He smiled. He glanced at his trainer.
Ty smiled at the Growlithe when he barked in acknowledgement. "Hello to you too," she answered cheerfully before turning back to the young man.
"A pleasure, Yuri." Noticing the hesitation with the handshake, the girl grinned at him. "What's the matter? I won't bite. Don't they have handshakes where you're from?"

Repede just bobbed his head once in a nod of confirmation to Fathom's deduction. He and Yuri did indeed look out for each other. But the Growlithe then lowered his front half into a crouch and a low growl. ""
"I dunno, you look pretty vicious," Yuri teased with a grin. No, they really didn't do handshakes all that much where he came from. It was just something to get use to. He then noticed Repede's growl and his posture. "Looks like Repede wants to fight Fathom."

<'Old man'?! Ouch,> the water-type laughed, tapping his tail patiently on the sidewalk. The Vaporeon too took a stance, ready for action.
The girl laughed aloud at Yuri's comment. At least it was apparent he wasn't socially shy. The handshake must have been a custom thing. "Well, you're the one with the sword," she jeered back with a mirthful smirk. At least until Yuri brought her attention to their pokemon.
"Oh, Fathom!" she cried, sounding distressed. "Do we have to do this now?" Yes, she did like battling, but Repede was a fire-type. Ty didn't like fire. Maybe if she stayed far enough away, she could avoid the risk of getting burned. Besides, it would be rude to just walk away from a challenge. Wait - was it a challenge?
"Um...Yuri, do you want to fight? I can have Fathom back off if he's bothering Repede. I think he's just been too eager to battle lately, which is why he chased after you guys in the first place."

Repede just gave the Vaporeon a doggy smirk. " " The Growlithe waiting for Fathom's first move as he sized him up.
"Huh?" Yuri asked, surprised that the question was directed at him. "Repede started it, and if he wants to, I don't have any problem with it. It's his fight." The young man had no intention of stopping the Pokemon. The Growlithe knew what he was doing, and what he was getting himself into.

Fathom rolled his pale eyes and lunged with a Bite aimed at Repede's furry throat. However, it was Tymiko who yelped in surprise.
"Fathom!" She gaped and turned to Yuri worriedly. "I-is it okay to just let them do that...? Aren't we supposed to - to coach or give commands or guide them or something?!"

Repede watched the Vaporeon closely and when he made the attack, managed to just barely dodge Fallow's fangs. Having lept to the side, the Growlithe growled lowly to himself before lunging for the Pokemon with intention to Bite as well.
With one hand on his hip, Yuri watched the battle for a moment before glancing at the worried Tymiko. He gave her a shrug and a smile. "I wouldn't worry about it. I'm no trainer anyway."

The Vaporeon flinched, not expecting Repede to attack with the same technique. The Growlithe's bite caught him off-guard and he did his best to shake the fire-type off. Leaping to the side, he attempted to force Repede back with Aurora Beam.
The girl stared at Yuri, her attention divided between the freely-attacking pokemon and the young man. "What? But - if you're not a trainer, why is it okay to let them battle? They can hurt each other!"
Ty looked conflicted, torn between jumping between the pair and allowing them to continue. She wasn't much of a trainer either, but was this normal for pokemon? Fathom had just been caught, so she supposed he could trust his wild instincts instead of needing to rely on her...right?
But she'd read somewhere that wild pokemon weren't as strong as trained ones. What to do...? Tymiko put her fingers to her mouth subconsciously, unable to help biting her nails when nervous. She rocked back and forth on her heels, wondering if Repede would dare use a fire attack.
