04.17.2012 ????
Faces were grim as a mix of Life and Moon hunters walked through desert sands. It was too soon on the heels of the Sahara disaster, and too much. Too much hunter blood had been spilled on foreign sands this past year for any to truly feel at ease here. The odd pressure didn't help, with its burning edge that had nothing to do with the sun overhead. The desert was silent but for the wind, carrying with it the soft hum of insects in the far distance.
They almost missed the cleverly hidden entrance to the underground, tucked out of sight between two large, weathered stones. The cool shade of the cavern was a welcome respite after the desert, though it took several minutes for the hunters' eyes to adjust to the dimly lit chamber. Along the walls, glass globes held glowing plants and insects that provided an odd, yet gentle sort of light.
The floor was covered in blank tiles, each with a shallow groove, to the side several hunters were already inspecting loose tiles pieces that fit neatly down into them. At the center was a large spiral, pulsing with a soft but slightly ominous glow. After studying it for several minutes, Clarice finally turned to address the gathered hunters and trainees. "We need to set up barriers outside. Techs, partner up with a moon to guard you as you work. Trainees and Intermediates, I want you here working on the tile pieces, placing them into the appropriate glyph. It's like assembling a big puzzle, kay? Previous encounters with Horseman temples have shown they prefer a balanced approach, so I recommend alternating colours. Repetition of pieces tends to fail though, so pay attention."
The acting leader of Life sighed and looked at the gathered hunters, then took a deep breath, "As some of you are aware. The pressure you feel now is...dangerous for us. If it gets overwhelming for you...then it's time for you to make a choice." She them all a level stare, "You can stay, and do what you can right until the end. Or you can run back to the Labyrinth, your pendant's long range teleport should be able to work from there. Just remember," the blonde lifted her chin, "if we fail here, the time left to enjoy our world will be limited. So make the most of it."
Many of the more veteran hunters frowned at her, either unhappy that she was bringing this up so plainly or that she was offering an out. This was a decision that they kept facing time and time again these past few months, and it never got any easier with repetition. Stay and work, fight until the end...or go and enjoy what time they had left. Clarice cleared her throat and then stopped, expression frozen and staring.
"Well, barely a day without me and you're already making suicide pacts. I'm touched, really, but a bit melodramatic, wouldn't you agree?" A shadowy figure stood at the entrance and then took a step forward. Gone was the coat, and the rest of his clothes had definitely seen better days. The old scar had reopened, leaving the left half of his face bloody and slightly swollen. In one blood covered hand, Dr. H held a large pearl, roughly the size of a grapefruit and glowing softly with runes.
Clarice was the first to react, swiftly approaching him and pulling a runic thermometer from her pocket. "Say ah," she bit out, voice tight.
The doctor looked down at her with a cold curiosity, as if wondering why he shouldn't just kill the woman before him, with her little demands, and tempting vulnerabilities. The expression was gone in a moment, shifting to mild bemusement, as he opened his mouth and said, "Ahhhh."
Clarice shoved the thermometer in his mouth and he obediently closed it, patiently waiting until the device beeped and the assistant checked the results. Her voice held a slight quaver when she finally announced, "You're technically human."
The doctor smiled down at her, "And yet still so very much the monster, hm?"
The blonde gave him a small, grudging smile, and moved toward him. Lifting his hands the doctor took a step back, "As charming as your enthusiasm is, my dear, it's been a rather trying day. So do please refrain from hugging me, for godsake."
She paused and huffed, crossing her arms and looking away, "I wasn't going to hug you."
H just smiled indulgently, "And my ribs are so very grateful for your restraint."
"You smell like fish."
"Well now your just being petty. I do hope you brought the amplifier, as it would be rather sad if I went through all the trouble of being the big damn hero, just to have you all explode into little fleshy bits because of negligent packing."
"I brought it," Clarice's expression was now more relaxed yet more clear and business-like. Turning to the hunters, she said, "Give us a few minutes and the pressure should decrease to something only slightly awful, and a lot less likely to kill you in under an hour. Don't remove your pendants for anything, because they're what's going to be buffing your tolerance to this place." She grinned over at the doctor who just rolled his eyes and waved her on. "We're getting this done and we're coming out of this alive." A number of Life hunters were smiling now, understanding the importance of that particular artifact and what this meant. "We're gonna save the goddamn world."
Hopefully.
"Now get to work."
OOC THE GLYPH ROOMRULES:RED GLYPHS: http://zoo.thesporkedken.com/glyphsetred.pngBLUE GLYPHS:http://zoo.thesporkedken.com/glyphsetblue.png- All trainees must use the two glyph sets below to map out and post glyphs with the template. This is very simple. Download both glyph sets. Copy and paste which glyph you want to use for your turn onto the template, but look at the persons's glyph template post above you to make sure not to overlap. - Postthe new template with YOUR GLYPH result in your post. - Make sure to use the IC rules too: alternate glyph colours, don't post the same glyphs period. - PLEASE BEFORE YOU EDIT YOUR RP FOR THE RP SECTION, POST THE UPDATED GLYPH TEMPLATE WITH YOUR CHOICE FIRST SO THE NEXT PERSON CAN POST THEIRS- EXAMPLE:- Steve looks at the glyph set and chooses a RED glyph that has not been used. Steve ICly will rp their char Susan picking up a RED glyph tile and pasting it down. He will then paste a LINK (URL) of the UPDATED TEMPLATE with their glyph they chose pasted onto the template (with any sort of art program). - TEMPLATE: *** RP HERE*****

Robert tried not to be distracted by the shiny lights, and listened to instructions. It was hard, though. Really really hard. He only managed to focus when Clarice went silent, and he looked at her, before following her gaze.
Somehow, he wanted to be more surprised, but instead he just felt a little nauseous and let Dr. H have a wide berth. That man stunk.
He used the map and glyphs given, without a single understanding of what he was supposed to do, and just slapped one of the blue ones down before dropping to his knees. God, but it felt heavy in here..

Sherry eyed the area that the Life Division was working with. Being in the desert was certainly not a good sign in her eyes. Bad memories all around. At least they didn't have to stay up in that sand.
Sherry listened as Clarice gave them their task. It seemed like it should be simple enough, but looking at the blank slate they were given, Sherry didn't know if it would be. The glyphs were just shapes to her...how would they know where they went? She glanced around, wondering if it made sense to anyone.
It was then that their lost leader made his reappearance. Sherry just stared for a moment, her mind running over the events in Antarctica...it seemed so far away, but it had just happened. He had just...and now he was... Sherry shook her head again. She wasn't going to think about it.
Instead, she focused her attention on the glyphs. She watched as Robert placed one, then another hunter another. Were they just...placing them based on color? Should they go in any real pattern? It...seemed like maybe they should, but what pattern exactly was beyond her.
Well, they had two glyphs down, and a vague pattern...so Sherry picked up a blue glyph and placed in after the red glyph, continuing the circle. She didn't overly think it...but what was the worst that could happen?

leon let out a sigh of relief when H decided to make his grand masculine entrance. It meant that Robert won't be promoted yet and delay any chance that he would have to listen to the loon's potentially insane requests. No, Dr H had to live a long, annoying life first before that. With that mental panic attack put aside, he listened intently as the good doc talked about the glyphs, and had his little greeting from Clarice.
Life, all the begrudging moments of a welcome back. Other than the oppressive feeling in the room it was plain other than the emanating glow from the rune on the floor, the sole focal point of the room, other than the stone slab with markings that were slowing being embedded next to it. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the glyphs other than its color and whatever they meant, at least in his opinion.
but rules we're rules as he tried to ask Nid which one to place next. "You got any inkling as to what goes next dragon?" he queried softly to the beast that had residence in his mind. Jack if I know, go put down anything. Nid was ever so helpful. with no hunches, he picked up a nearby slab and looked at it, turned it upside down and stared at it more, furrowing his eyebrows in thought before turning it back around and placing it into the configuration.

[Enter]
As they made their way through the sands, Sasha was growing weary. Everything ached, and the extreme heat only seemed to exacerbate the dull burn of pain deep in her muscles. Her eyes felt gritty and dry; her tongue felt thick and sticky in her mouth. Each step forward shot a stiff pain up her back, one that arched through her hips and calves. The salty sting of sweat in her eyes caused her vision to blur. Small rivules of sweat snaked down the dip of her spine and pooled at her lower back - and lower still. The journey had turned into a march of yucky-sweaty-sticky that dissipated only slightly when the group made their way into the cooler, more comfortable cavern.
As Sasha listened to Clarice placidly, she took a brief moment to unfasten her jacket so that she could tie the arms around her waist. That finished, Sasha lifted her thick swathe of hair off of her neck, fanning her hand against the pale skin at the back of her neck. Finally she could breathe a soft, solemn sigh of relief. Keeping busy was good. Keeping busy didn't leave time to think about the doctor or Julie, and Sasha direly needed the distraction - even if the news that Clarice had wasn't the best news to receive.
When Clarice seemed to tense, Sasha's brows drew together. It wasn't until she heard that familiar voice ring out quietly within the cool cavern that Sasha spun around, eyes widening. A choked, garbled sound caught in her throat as tears threatened to strangle her entirely. Her small hands formed fists, clenched so tight that her knuckles were completely void of color. Sasha fought the urge to run to the doctor, to fling her arms around his waist - just to make sure he was real. Just to make sure that he was real and here in front of her.
Now wasn't the time; after all, they were here to save the world, and as the doctor held up that rune-covered pearl, well.. it seemed the task wasn't so daunting. Was it the pearl or the doctor's presence? Sasha couldn't say; all she knew was that she hadn't felt this hopeful since before the doctor's initial disappearance. So giddy, thrilled, exuberant. These were beautiful feelings, and despite the doctor's battered face and tattered clothes and very distinctly fishy stench, he was beautiful, too.
There would be time later. For now, there was a task; it was one that Sasha carried out with diligence and hope, though she paused every now and again to stare at the doctor with wide, bright eyes. If she happened to catch his eye, he could expect a very vivacious smile and an enigmatic thumbs up.

A couple more slabs were placed as the boxer waved to Sasha and Tori. "Nice of you to join in the lifting, any idea what these symbols mean?" he asked carelessly as he placed another runestone down with a grunt of effort.
"I can't make heads or tails of this stuff." he said lamely, it didn't look like the runic writing on his weapon, unless he was reading it wrong. WHAT DOES MY WRITING SAY MEATHEAD? "Made in Taiwan." HEY, SHUT IT. it was one of the rare times where Leon felt the need to crack a joke and smile.
yes, it did mean the world was going to end, probably.
