04.17.2012 ????

It was actually odd how despite the ornate detail of the area, everything was abandoned. The cold forges remained quiet and empty, the floes of lava dribbling from above giving the area a strange foreign feel: something that would never be possible in the human world in any form of logic or reasoning. Even trainees' weapons would proclaim the same sort of reaction to their setting.

That this felt like Halloween, from the thick miasma of Fear, to the surreal landscape of everything around them. It was stifling, an inexplainable feeling as if an invisible pressure was looming over the trainees, making everything difficult to breathe, difficult to focus, harder to move, harder to think. The sensation was similar to wading through a thick, murky pool, simply plunging blindly ahead despite all warning alarms in their mind going off.

The group did not stop until they reached one of the largest structures in the area, what could only be deemed as a Temple at the very top of the hill. Once again, it was oddly vacant from within, or at least, from their current vantage point. A strange loud buzz, agitating and eerie at once seemed to echo from underneath the marble floor, and it was not until the Death division lead walked through what looked like an archway leading underground, that this obstruction became clear.

There were a few other Death Hunters milling about, staring at a detailed map, and setting up what seemed like an extremely intricate pattern of Runic equipment and daggers against the outskirts of the vicinity. There were tiles around the center of a large rune, several feet in span. A rune that seemed to pulsate and breathe on its own, occasionally emitting strong waves of Fear. Several Hunters looked nauseous, most likely from the overwhelming Fear radiating from the rune. It was the source of that strange feeling, the hum and buzz, the prickling at their skin that could not be explained. The agitation for now was mild, but given too much exposure to this much Fear, it would eventually drive all the Hunters to a breaking point.

"There are tiles that need to be placed." Caelius moved towards to piles of stone tiles, one set marked with red glyphs the second with blue. "You will select a tile with a glyph that has not been used and set it in a counter-clockwise pattern around the main infrastructure. Red glyphs represent active tiles, blue inactive, too many of either equals a lack of ******** foresight. I recommend you memorize the pattern you place when completed."

It was hard to tell if he was being helpful or just sarcastic as he moved away to yell at two other Hunters for getting the sequence wrong again ******** incompetent etc etc. It was nice to know that this division had such a lovely and encouraging atmosphere.

THE GLYPH ROOM

RULES:

RED GLYPHS:
http://zoo.thesporkedken.com/glyphsetred.png

BLUE GLYPHS:
http://zoo.thesporkedken.com/glyphsetblue.png

- All trainees must use the two glyph sets below to map out and post glyphs with the template. This is very simple. Download both glyph sets. Copy and paste which glyph you want to use for your turn onto the template, but look at the persons's glyph template post above you to make sure not to overlap.
- Postthe new template with YOUR GLYPH result in your post.
- Make sure to use the IC rules too: alternate glyph colours, don't post the same glyphs period.
- PLEASE BEFORE YOU EDIT YOUR RP FOR THE RP SECTION, POST THE UPDATED GLYPH TEMPLATE WITH YOUR CHOICE FIRST SO THE NEXT PERSON CAN POST THEIRS

-EXAMPLE:

- Steve looks at the glyph set and chooses a RED glyph that has not been used. Steve ICly will rp their char Susan picking up a RED glyph tile and pasting it down. He will then paste a LINK (URL) of the UPDATED TEMPLATE with their glyph they chose pasted onto the template (with any sort of art program).

The forges were cold and Gale was unsure as to their exact location. Twenty feet above his head he could see the intense red and orange of the lava, oddly bright in the otherwise dark and dismal place, dripping downwards in burnt streaks.

It felt...uncomfortable. Unnerving.

<< Unpleasant. This feels...wrong, somehow. I don't understand. >>

I know.

<< ...it feels like... >>

It feels like Halloween.

The air around Gale felt thick with FEAR, heavy and suffocating, suppressing and pressing down on every fiber of his being, every nerve in his body, every cell of his presence as though trying to extinguish him. His lungs heaved for air, but it was like trying to breathe through a gas mask or water - everything felt too tired, and he felt sluggish, his body heavy.

It was not unlike how he felt most of the time lately. The creature's words came into his head again, unwanted and unnerving:

"Then think! Think of what I'm asking you! What is that you believe?"

He did not want to think. In fact, the last thing he wanted to do was think about everything that he needed to.

With a great deal of strength, he pushed himself onward, following Caelius towards the temple-like structure at the hill. It was empty - Strange, thought Gale, his eyes roaming around for any signs of life at all, other than themselves, but there was nothing. A low buzz in his ears reverberated from the floor upwards, resounding unpleasantly throughout him.

What is this place?

And then there was Caelius, of course. Caelius and his usual charming self. Somehow the fact that he was still treating them all like they were pieces of dung on the bottom of his shoe was oddly reassuring, as though at least one piece of the puzzle was right.

Staring down at the glyphs and tiles, Gale knelt slowly down, his gloved fingers brushing over the stones with great care. Out here, it was not nearly as humid or hot as the Amazon had been, and he felt remarkably more comfortable in his own uniform - a small comfort, perhaps, but at least it was there.

He picked up a tile - a red one - and set it into place.

Jude for the most part just picked out what Caelius wanted them to accomplish and otherwise ignored the words the Lead had spat out at them. He could have said something, made a retort but instead he bit it back and after Gale had placed down a red tile Jude moved forward and placed down a Blue one right after it. This wasn't too difficult. He just hoped that the symbols didn't need to be a certain one at least at the start.

After he'd placed down his tile he stepped back a bit and stared down at it critically for a long moment. Was this even going to be alright?

{Ssstop worrying. I'm sure your...Sssuperior will correct you if he findsss flawsss.} Yom pointed out.

Honestly, that is what he was afraid of. Cael finding a flaw in what they did and 'fixing it' with more verbal abuse and possibly drawing some blood. He wasn't sure he could take that much abuse right now without snapping like a twig. Jude stepped aside and waited for others to file in and do their part.

Caelius yelling and talking down to you was part and parcel of being in the Death division; it was no wonder a lot of Death hunters were rather sad, grumpy, unamused beings... She wondered when exactly she'll reach that stage herself. Maybe her life would come to an end before then; at least she'll die happy.

She watched as Gale and Jude when ahead to place down their stone, and followed up with a Red glyph next to Jude's one, following the anticlockwise direction it was supposed to follow. At least... That looked right to her.

Standing aside, she elbowed Jude in his side in a not-so-gentle manner, "Hi."

This room gave Deryk the creeps to say in the least. The air was thick with fear and that made him pretty uneasy. He watched as a few of the other trainees went to place down the glyphs. After Ariane placed down one of them, he grabbed a blue glyph and set it next to hers.

"So... setting glyphs. What do you think will happen?"

Something was bound to happen once they completed it.

Madison's leg continued to sting angrily as she followed the others. She'd never seen any place like this before, outside of a movie at least. The feeling in the air was oppressive, only growing more intense as they descended underground, following Caelius' lead. The buzzing alone nearly overwhelmed all thought. Fear, Kouki informed her, and she believed it. The central glyph reminded her of the symbol they'd seen on that mission with the black dog...

Apparently, they had to affect this room somehow using additional glyphs - 'programming' it, perhaps? But Madison was still feeling woozy from the injuries she'd sustained during her journey here. "I just need a moment," she told the others, closing her eyes and taking a few deep breaths.

No...
No, not these glyphs again! Scorpion pits! SCORPION PITS!
That was it, wasn't it? This whole trip was designed to make Otto go nuts.
Well guess what, Caelius?
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Otto shakily entered, shakily placed a glyph down, and shakily stood aside.

Surely there was something more to this than randomly slapping down tiles. Of course, they had been given the basic guidelines--alternating colors, no repeats of symbols, counter-clockwise--but what about the symbols themselves? Besides the fact that the symbols gave her an uneasy feeling (due to her promotion mission--that pit of sand had not been fun), surely there was some kind of...importance to each of the different runes, right?

...Right?

...Eh. Picking up a blue rune, Eva moved forward to place it down by Otto's.

The first thing Wilson noticed was the lava flowing above his head. His eyes widened at the sight. This was something he would never have seen in the human world and even Gramps rasped out how unique the scene was. He spent another moment staring at the lava before he decided to start moving unless he wanted to risk the chance of being yelled at Caelius, but as he began to walk he noticed how difficult it was to walk. Wilson knitted his eyebrows together. It wasn’t just that, but it almost seemed like just thinking was difficult. He took a deep breath as he waded his way through the thick layer of FEAR. Wilson trailed behind the others as they entered the temple. He curiously stared at the architecture before turning his attention toward the runes and tiles on the floor. The trainee frowned at the center rune and stepped away while he scratched at his prickling skin.

Wilson managed to listen to Caelius’ instructions before he stepped back to watch the other trainees’ place down tiles. He eyed the tiles and scrutinized the symbols on them. Hopefully there wasn’t a specific pattern to this because Wilson decided that the trident-sized rune was kind of cool. He picked it up and placed it down.

Jude felt Ariane elbow him in the side in that special way that she had. He jolted a bit as if to try to keep his injured arm away from further harm and then peered over at her, "...Hey."

He watched as others placed the glyphs all except Madison who seemed to be ... not doing so hot at the moment, "You going to be alright there? Need some help?"

Not that Jude had any way to help her but the least he could do was make sure she was okay.

Deryk nervously looked towards the others for the moment as they placed down a few more glyphs. Madison wasn't looking too good right now, and he was a little worn himself. But Jude had her taken care. So, he took in a deep breath and picked up a blue glyph. Would it be alright to set it down next to the other one? Then again, it was either two blues or two reds. There was no way around it.

Shifting a bit, he cautiously put it down.

Jude had seen Deryk place down the glyph and sucked in a bit of a breath in spite of himself then as if to try and ward off some sort of 'bad voodoo' that could come with that move he moved and placed a red glyph right above it hoping that maybe that was good enough for the pattern. Indeed there was nothing that could have been done for it but there was also the fact that he wasn't sure how else to 'deal' with the situation at hand. All they had was a set of vague instructions spat out like venom by the bitchest 'snake' around in the Death Division.

He did give Madison a concerned glance or two after he put down the glyph tile.

Aleister looked at the room almost puzzling over the glyphs unsure of what he was really doing.... So he picked up one blue title.... hoping he was right and set it down on the floor. Oh he hoped he was right.

Little by little they were filling up the floor. Looking at the ground, Deryk went on and picked up a red rune and placed it next to the one Aleister set down.

"Hope we're doing this right.."

He stood back and watched the others take turns placing the runes, one after the other. They were on the second ring now. Wilson crossed his arms, his fingers drumming while he took in the pattern they created and tried to memorize it. Caelius had ‘recommended’ them to remember it, after all. Wilson threw Deryk a wary look. “I wish you hadn’t said that.” The word ‘jinx’ was clearly written across his face before he sighed and walked over to pick up another tile. He switched between the already-laid tiles and the others, skimming over the symbols before he decided to pick one that had a fancy E on it. Wilson tilted his head. Actually, it looked like the mathematical symbol for summations. He had a silent laugh at that when he placed it next to Deryk’s tile.
