It had caught his attention during the diplomacy game. That's why Roch was standing at the paper door of Hel's dorm room, just staring at her. STAAARRREEE.
He wasn't even being stealthy about being a creeper, he was just being one. And he wasn't going to leave until he figured out what the hell was going on.

First, Hel just thought Roch was passing by. She didn’t have anything to say at the moment, and figured he’d be busy getting into Roch-like shenanigans, so she kept staring at her phone.
When he uh…you know…didn’t go away and kept staring at her…well. Hel lost her patience pretty damn fast. That didn’t change. The ghoul snapped her phone shut and scowled loudly, pushing herself up from her futon to stomp over to the paper door here she pulled it open with more force than necessary. “Roch.” She snapped. “What in Jack’s name are you doing and what do you want?” As in, ‘hi Roch, so good to see you, why are you sitting outside like a creeper?’

He stared at her, a frown on his face as he looked at her closely. "You walk funny," he said finally. "Why have you been walkin' funny?" he asked her, going straight to the problem. "And you skipped out way too easily on that game. I never figured you for one skip out after only a few hands."

Hel crossed her arms and raised a brow at the boil as he stared down closer at her now.
She scowled again. Oh, so that’s what it was about, huh? Hel just stared up at him flatly for a good long moment. A…yup. There would be no easy or casual way to say this, as much as she wanted to, and trying to dance around the topic wouldn’t work, not with Roch. “First, that game is all about luck, not skill, and second, I am adjusting.”
Way to drag it out, Hel.

"Adjusting to what? Cuz I'm havin' a hell of a time adjusting to this place, but it ain't makin' me walk like a drunken werewolf," he said bluntly. "Somethin' happen that you ain't tellin me?"
A hint of hurt crossed his face at that thought. He thought he and Hel were tight--like close close pals. The idea of her--
"Maybe I'm wrong, huh?" he said almost to himself.

It…wasn’t obvious? She thought…well, you know…even when she would cover up her wings, they’d still bulge…but her back was pretty flat now. Oh well. The ghoul reached to rub a shoulder self-consciously and then rolled it. Welp, here she went.
“Ya.” Her tone was flat, and she glanced off to the side momentarily. “I do not have my wings to counterbalance anymore. I am adjusting.”

His eyes widened. Okay, he was a bit of an idiot and-- "How the hell do you lose an entire set of wings?" he asked in confusion. "Did they... fall off or something?" Wings didn't just fall off--even he was smarter than that! But then what DID happen? "Did you have, like, surgery or something?"

Hel actually snorted. Did they fall off? If only it had been that simple. It wasn’t as lighthearted a notion though, that was for certain.
“No…” The ghoul shook her head a bit, and mulled over her next choice of words carefully. The SEEDs mission was secret after all. “…I was at the Haunted House…and the rooms were shifting…and a Hunter fell down on me during the battle…” She rubbed her shoulder again. “He lobbed them off with his weapon.”

He went still. "And the hunter?" he asked quietly, seriously. He hadn't been in the haunted house since the treasure room incident, but he wasn't surprised that she had been. "What was his name? What did he look like? Did you get any of that?"

Oh boy…
Yeah. Hel knew what happened to the Hunter. She knew what he looked like too. She’d never forget how he looked, especially with that smile as he tore her feathered limbs. Just thinking about it again made the ghoul’s brows furrow and a grimace creep onto her face. But as she thought before…all of this needed to be kept hushed. The ghoul shrugged a bit.
“…I am not certain. Mot was with me...after it happened, everything else is a blur…and he took me out of there and to the nurse…” Her tone was gone soft, a bit bitter.

And Mot hadn't told him, either, he thought silently. So that was how things were, he went on silently. Keep the punk in the dark. "How long?" he asked quietly. "It was before these classes started, I'm thinking. So how long did you guys plan on not telling me about this?"

A brow rose. “…Eh…a week or so before this exchange program I suppose? Sometime after the Trials…I can not say for certain…things got…really hazy for me…”
She trailed off for a moment before furrowing her brows again as her head snapped back to Roch. “First, do not say ‘you guys’. This matter is mine alone. Second, is it not something I like proclaiming to all of Halloween, ya? It is nothing personal, Roch. If Mot had not been there, I would not have told him, either. It is not something one puts on their list of honorable achievements.”

"It's also not somethin' you keep a secret from your close friends," Roch said. "Jackdammit, Hel--" Then he stopped, shaking his head. "No. Forget it. And if somethin' like that happens to me, I won't tell you anything, either," he said with a snort, starting to walk away.

“Keep a secret?” Hel snorted. “It is not something I can exactly hide, Roch.”
“What?” She waited to hear what else he was going to say, and then blinked as he started to walk away. “What?” She snapped. “Excuse me for not mentioning it.” Her tone was anything but pleading. “Talking about it is not going to bring them back, it is not going to change anything. What would telling anyone about this do? Aside from remind me of what I lost and bring them down?” She made no move to go after him. “If something life altering like this happens to you, Roch, and you do not want to share, that is your choice.”

"Were you in the trials?" he asked quietly, stopping but not turning to look at her. "I don't remember."
