Task You need to demonstrate the basics of using a mount. Please do these in a separate thread. Hey! Listen! - Roll 1d4. Even, your mount listens to you. Odd, it does not. Forward: - Roll 1d4. Even, it moves forward. Odd, it does nothing. STOP: - Roll 1d4. Even, it keeps moving. Odd, it stops. Turning: - In order to demonstrate your ability to turn, your mount will need to turn one full circle. Pick even or odd. Try to roll what you called twice in a row. - Upon accomplishing that, call even or odd again. Then roll what you called twice in a row again. Upon completing this bonus RP, you may now RP your mount anywhere within the War clan. Except in RPs that takes place in trees, because that is rather silly and the mounts are too big to fit in the elevators. This isn't Thunder Bluff. Not comfortable with his mount?! Thackery was aghast. "I love Mister Growlnose!" he insisted. The wolf yawned in response. Maybe the 'love' he had for Thackery was not quite as strong. "Well. We're gonna show her how wrong she is, won't we, Mister Growlnose?" He rubbed his cheek against the mount's head, who tolerated him much like a fat cat tolerates an over-eager toddler.

"Okay! Ready to show them what we can do?"
No, no he was not. Mister Growlnose tossed his head in protest, pawing at the ground. He sure did want breakfast. Thackery ruined all of that, and now he was pathetically hungry. Though he cooed to him and pet him behind his ears, it did nothing to soothe his grumbling stomach.

It took a few minutes, but Thackery finally caught on to the wolf's body language. It wasn't too unlike that of his minipets, or his brothers while they were back home, pleading with their mother for some between-meal snacks.
He fondly wondered what they were up to right now. What would they say if they could see him riding a wolf? Probably that he was the best of them. Yeah, that was exactly what they'd say.
"Mister Growlnose, hey, I'm sorry. But I didn't bring treats or food or anything. We can go get some after this! There were a whole lot of goats in trees in the forest, and I bet you could reach them if you stood up on your back feet." Pause. "Well. I bet you could reach them anyway. They seem pretty dumb."
In actuality, if they really had formed some sort of clothes-eating conspiracy, they were far more clever than he gave them credit for.
The wolf responded well to this, stretching gracefully and awaiting his orders.
"Ready, steady..." Mister Growlnose readied and steadied as best he knew how, knees bent to prepare for motion.

"Aaand go!"
Mister Growlnose did nothing. Maybe he didn't understand that term? He took some time to consider the commands that the wolf might recognize, but no specific words came to mind from his trials experience. He gave him another comforting ear-petting, assuring him that they would get this.

"Let's try....giddyup?" He braced himself for takeoff, but Mister Growlnose still stood his ground, still prepared to move, just...not moving.
Thackery frowned, leaning into his fur.
"I wish you could talk so we could be super best friends. But mostly because I really wanna know what sorts of words help us."

And then it came to him, the painfully obvious solution. He shook his head and laughed, amused at his inability to think clever things so early in the morning.
"Forward!" he called, and they were moving, pushing the limits of the wolf's speed. Thackery was silent, enjoying the feeling of the wind through his hair, the wind that tickled his ears in such a pleasant way. With his eyes closed, he could almost recall the trial, the scenery surrounding them as they pressed forward with dedication.

He probably should have commanded Mister Growlnose to stop, but this was the best thing ever. Not even he could run this fast, and he fancied himself as a really fast runner. When he finally did make the command, sure that he felt the expectant gaze of one of the instructors, it was carried away by the wind.
He didn't bother to say anything else for a little while. With his fingers clutched in the wolf's fur, he considered how nice it would be to just let him carry him away to some other exotic land. Perhaps he could even swim, if pressed to do so. Maybe it would be his own island, an island that he could rule, and they would all live in contentment.
They would all...Ash. No, he needed Ash. And he wasn't here. His grip on the fur loosened at the sad realization, and his ears drooped. He couldn't run away.
"Mister Growlnose. We gotta stop."
And so he did, slowing to a trot, a walk, and eventually stopped all together, waiting for another command.

Mister Growlnose was doing a relatively excellent job of following Thackery's commands, and that much didn't change as he tried to tug on a fistful of fur to get him to turn. The wolf veered to the side a bit, moving as if he was going to complete the full circle...

...and stopped, glancing backwards at his rider. Thackery stared at him in confusion.
"Why'd you stop going? Don't you wanna turn? Come on! Turn!" he urged, ruffling his ears.

The wolf certainly enjoyed the attention he was getting, responding to that with a wagging tail, but didn't make any move to turn in the circle that Thackery wanted. He signed, tried tugging on the reins this time, and waited for a result.

Mister Growlnose tossed his head, wholly unconcerned at who saw him doing what. He slowly moved to lie down, feet tucked to his sides, enjoying a mid-morning nap.
"This isn't time for napping!" Thackery whined, trying to push them into motion with his feet.

All of Thackery's efforts seemed to gice Mister Growlnose a bit of inspiration, at least. With a low growl in his throat - just to ensure that his rider knew that he wasn't enjoying this - he rose and slowly turned half a circle.

Though there was a pause midway through, Mister Growlnose finally completed his full turn, looking back at Thackery with an "I hope you're so damn pleased with yourself" expression. And he was. He clapped his hands together in excitement, leaning forward to hug the large wolf around his neck.
"See? You're good at this when you wanna be!"
