Danny stared at the wide open field that lay before her. She'd decided today that she was done with the fancy intricacies of the conquest buildings, instead opting for a more open area that she could run around in.
"BIRDIESSSSS," she squealed before the professor could even tell her to stop. The sharp look she got shut her up, but she looked over at Rikki like, "OHMYJACKTHISISSOEXCITING."
Then the teacher actually explained what they were doing, and her face dropped a little. They had to earn the bird's trust? Danny wasn't very good with animals ... she never knew what to do with them, and ended up singing them most of the time. Still, she had limited experience with her rabos, and learning to care for her new kitten wasn't hurting either. Danny was just grateful she had the real pet whisperer with her.

Nyyrikki was feeling kind of confident about this. He had tons of minipets and they all loved him. Well except Rigor. Rigor probably didn't love him. But that wasn't a big deal. He was great with animals!
He approached the birds carefully, wanting to give them some time to figure him out. Unfortunately, he hadn't taken off his belt. And included with his belt was the wide assortment of chains at locks which jingled with every step he took. Clink, clink, clink. He was a sea of noise, but he'd been wearing it for so long that he hardly noticed the sound anymore.
The birds certainly noticed though. The first few in the U-shape backed up and looked at him wearily, but when he picked one out and began to approach it, there was an uproar. The bird squawked loudly and hopped around, looking uncertain whether it should stay with the group or run off. In honked and hawed at him, flaring it's feathers as if trying to make itself look more dangerous. Rikki's eyes shot wide and he held his hands up, backing up and trying not to get the life beat out of him. The bird kept squawking at him until he was well out of the horseshoe of the group.
He glanced at Danny apologetically and sat on the ground. "I've gotta stay here, I guess. Meet me here when you're done, okay?"

Danny couldn't help but burst out laughing when Rikki's bird left him. Looks like the big minipet whisperer wasn't so big now! When her laughter finally stopped she said, "Sorry- ... Sorry it was just funny!" Then she let out another round of laughter.
Still, she had a job to do. She looked at her little instructions sheet. Bow to the bird. BOW? To a freakin' bird?
Whatever. She walked up the adara and promptly bowed to it, with all the mock-grandiose that the horsemen instructor had showed. She was actually just making fun of the horsemen, but the bird seemed to accept it, and even gave her a feather.
She actually looked a little confused for a moment, but then she smiled and gave Rikki a thumbs up.

Next you should offer the adara a refreshing drink of water or a salted cracker.
Oh okay! So she had to feed it! Easy peasy.
Danny picked up a whole handful of crackers and practically stuffed them into her bird's mouth. The bird was all too happy to eat them all up, and then run to another person's crackers.
At FIRST, Danny was upset. Two timing bird! Then she thought about it for a moment. Roch was always eating enough for seven people. Maybe her bird was a Roch birdy. It just needed more food than the other birdies!

Rikki clapped. He was impressed. He didn't know Danny knew what to do with something that wasn't on fire. She'd done better than him though. Which, was pride bruising. But Danny kicked his a** so much that he was getting used to it. He stood as he waited for her to come back and grinned.

Danny smiled at the birdies, making odd cooing noises of joyous love for her bird friends. They were just so jackdamn cute.
Ask the adara something about itself, listening attentively when it answers, even though you can't understand a word of its reply.
She was supposed to talk to the birdies? What. Whaaaaaat. Birds didn't talk! Silly horsemen. Still, she did what she was asked. She found a more brightly colored bird and said, "Ummmm do you um ... how's the ... cracker?"
AWKWARD THY NAME IS DANNY.
The bird immediately shook its head and ran away. She gaped for a moment and then started laughing. Now both she AND Rikki had been left by the bird. She ran back over to where he was sitting on the grass and sat down next to him. "We can stay and watch the birdies right?" She may not be the pet whisperer, but she definitely appreciated an adorable animal.

The conquest island really was pretty. There were shiny things everywhere- Danny could appreciate that. Maybe she had been looking at this too negatively. Not every part of the conquest island was bad- just most of it! She could get on board with that.
Either way, she found herself exploring the building, a few steps ahead of Rikki because she was just so excited.
To her right was a smaller room, seemingly empty. Danny stopped and smiled, walking in the room and gesturing Rikki to follow. Maybe there would be a secret treasure!

Nyyrikki was a few steps behind because he wasn't excited. Sure it was gorgeous, but that didn't outweigh how much he totally didn't fit in. So he kind of just shuffled behind Danny with his hands in his pockets, totally just entertaining her because he was a good boilfriend.
He followed her into the room and immediately wished he hadn't, because this looked awfully a lot like some sort of class, and as he was learning from the classes here, he was not the kind of reaper to excel in these. He frowned grumpily at the little wooden blocked, frowned even more when the sniffed them, and frowned again when he was instructed to do the same.
Seriously. "Seriously?" Seriously.

s**t. Shiiiiit. Had she really just wandered in on a class. JACKKKK. She just wanted to find a small space to get away from all the adornment and fancy, and she'd wandered in on a jackdamn class. The absolute last place she wanted to be in.
For a moment, she really just thought about bolting out the door. Just leaving, really.
She couldn't do that though. Rikki was already smelling the wood, getting caught in the teacher's persuasive instructions, and there was no way she was just abandoning him. That'd be such a d**k move.
Reluctantly, she began smelling the blocks of wood, not really sure what she was looking for. Except there was a problem. Danny had absolutely no clue what she was doing. All of the blocks smelled the same. Exactly the same. She was supposed to arrange them though.
... Danny just started playing with the blocks.

Rikki actually put a little effort into smelling his blocks, though he was amused by Danny. But he figured if he was going to be made to do it, he might as well try and learn something. Though what the lesson in this task was, he had no freaking idea. He lifted the blocks to his nose one by one. Some he lifted more than once. Others he cast aside immediately as different from the rest.
This would have probably been a lot easier if he had a nose like a doggish monster or something.
In the end he chose which ones he thought were the same and ended up stacking the blocks in what he found in the book to be Hana no en. Seriously. This was a human thing? Why were humans so weird?

A small, birdish sort of horseman came out carrying a small tray, holding the correct scents. She stood there for a moment, until she realized that Danny was so enraptured in playing with blocks that she wasn't paying attention to the lesson at all. Idiotic ghoul.
The horsemen gave a rude sort of "AHEM," and Danny's head snapped up. She dropped the block nearly immediately, realizing she'd messed up again. The blocks just sort of fell into a position, a few of them knocking together.
The horsemen rolled his eyes and unveiled the blocks he had, which actually matched 4 of hers. Danny grinned and said, "Hahaha so do I win or what?" The horsemen sort of scoffed, actually and then walked out of the room, clearly upset that such an idiot actually did pretty well.

Nyyrikki raised his brows at the horsemen and the tray. Was this really that important. He clapped for Danny as hers was mostly correct. He even went as far as to give her a peck on the cheek, though the horsemen looked a bit appalled. He grinned and shrugged. "Just show me my scents."
He hadn't really expected to be right. He wasn't good at this stuff. But when the horseman revealed the blocks they were an exact replica of what Rikki had done. "...Wait. I got it right?" The teacher nodded, and Rikki did an excited little jump. "I got it right!"
... This was still stupid though.

Danny put a hand on Rikki's back (well more like slapped a hand ...) and said, "Rikki that's great! You're so smart!!" That hand on the shoulder was quickly joined by a second on the other, and it eventually became a hug.
She laughed and stood up, forgetting to bow and raise her hand and everything. A few horsemen started whispering and pointing at her. Wasn't she supposed to be on her best behavior? ... Oops.
"Let's get outta here," she said in a low voice, offering her hand, and then running off with him.

EtiquetteDanny had demanded Rikki give her a piggy back ride because DHS makes me write the intro post and I'm so abused /SOB to the bird field. This was the ONLY place on Conquest that she'd felt somewhat in tune with things. She really like animals, they just didn't like her most of the time. It was the burden of fire.
Of course, once they actually got closer it became a bit harder to control Danny.
She was just excited okay.

Nyyrikki gave Danny the piggy back ride, but as soon as they were in the field he dropped her in the grass. Chick was heavy.
He glanced around at the U of birds, pursing his lips in thought for a second. Last time, this hadn't gone so well. This time, however, he had a plan. He made quite a ruckus as he pulled off his belt and the chains attached, but he'd started far enough away that the birds paid him little mind. This time, he wanted to at least make it to the bird.
