Chandra watched the sunset over the lake. It hadn't been that long ago she'd met the swimming mortal Yoake. She'd tried but found her wings weren't very helpful in the whole matter. She smiled to herself remembering. He'd seemed nice, and she'd often checked back to see if he was around, but hadn't had much luck. Then again it didn't help that she was often looking for him around dusk. She really had to get her sleeping schedule straight one of these days and stop sleeping all day. Made her more of a social outcast than normal.
She sighed and crossed her paws and put her head on them. Was at least shaping up to be a pretty evening.

It was a lovely evening, with the stars just beginning to come out. Venus was still in view. Yoake paused on his way to the lake to watch it. The sun had just set, and the moon would rise...when would the moon rise? He'd heard someone try to explain it once, but he'd lost track of the explanation.
He hoped he'd see it this evening at the lake. It had been a while since he was last there--in fact, the last time he'd gone to the lake had been with Chandra. He wondered if she had tried swimming lately and what she thought. Smiling at the memory, Yoake paused at the lakeside to watch the sky once more.

Out of the corner of her eye Chandra caught a flash of bright color, much like the sunset. She turned and blinked then got up and started towards the figure. "Yoake." She called out with a smile. She came up to him and bowed her head. "It's good to see you again. I hope you've been well." she said.
She glanced back towards the darkening sky then back to him. "Beautiful evening." she added, being unable to stay silent for some reason.

Shadow and golden bright moved beside the lake, and Yoake blinked in surprise. How had he missed Chandra sitting beside the lake as he was? Especially as stunning as she looked in this light. How long had she been standing there? Maybe she had just gotten here, or maybe she'd been here before him.
Respectfully, he got to his feet. "Chandra," he said warmly. "It is wonderful to see you as well. How have you been?" He followed her gaze up to the dark sky. Other bright points of light were beginning to show in the heavens. It was an impressive display, even as close as they were to city lights. "It is indeed," he murmured.

"Well enough." she said. "Staying out of trouble...at least mostly." she said with a grin. She sat and curled her tail around herself and flicked the end of her tail. "So what have you been up to?" she asked. "Swimming I'm sure, but what else?" she teased.

"What sort of trouble might you normally get into?" Yoake was amused, and showed it with a smile. He sat down beside her and curled his own tail around himself. "I haven't been up to much lately. I've been...well, I've been bored lately, to tell the truth." He fidgeted with the end of his tail. "And a bit lonely."

Chandra blushed slightly. "Oh I get into arguments with my father sometimes." she felt so childish admitting that she intentionally tried to irritate her father sometimes. "Grandmother ignores me when I do it, so does Uncle, but still...Our debates get heated, to say the least." she said. "You must think that sounds so childish..." she said hanging her head.
She glanced over at him watching the dying rays of the sun highlight his fur. He did look rather dashing in the light. "Oh? I would think someone like you wouldn't lack for company." she said.

"I don't think you're childish, Chandra. But whydo you argue with your father?" he asked, head tilted to the side. He didn't have parents. Sure, he'd been adopted by Fogstep, but he'd never had a reason to argue with the odd old warrior. He'd had a few quarrels with his daughter Nanami, but he'd never gotten into full-blown arguments with her.
The last few breaths of sun lit up her wings, bringing out the delicate gold filigree of fur down her legs and back. She seemed more graceful now than ever before. "To be honest," he said softly, "I've mostly been avoiding company. I...My mate disappeared a while ago. I haven't seen her since then." He turned away from Chandra and watched the lake.

"Because...I did something stupid awhile back, and I don't believe that Celestials should really be revered as some people think we should be. I think we're just gifted children of the Goddess who are still capable of doing completely terrible and horrible things." she closed her eyes to keep back tears that kept trying to escape as the mental image of two little bowls crossed her mind. She shook her head. "That's...just how I feel, and Father doesn't agree with me." she let out a raspy breath, her eyes flicking over to him.
"I'm sorry to hear that. I don't really know what to say either...I...recently had a somewhat messy end to a relationship. It...wasn't pleasant..."

Yoake found himself looking at Chandra in a new light. With bird-like wings, she could almost be an overgrown angelic. For that matter, any god could be. It was a strange thing to realize that. And furthermore...arguments with parents? Failed relationships? Yes...yes, everyone had that. Everyone, even the ones who seemed untouchable before. He reached out to put one paw on one of hers. "You shouldn't have to agree with your father on everything just because he's your father," he agreed softly. "And we all do horrible things. You're not alone."
He nodded sympathetically, his own troubles feeling small and insignificant now. "I don't know what to say, either. I never had a relationship before I met my mate." He swallowed the lump in his throat. "So I, I...I don't know wh-what to do without her now."

"I know...I just..." she sighed and glanced over. "Oh, Yoake!" she bit her lip and was tempted to hug him, but wasn't sure they were close enough for such an open show of affection. "How could she leave such a wonderful man like you!" she reached into one of her legwarmers and pulled out a handkerchief and handed it over to him. "Please don't cry. I don't think I could stand it." she sniffed a bit. "And you might get me started!" she tried to laugh but it came out strangled. "I let her take advantage of me! I thought she was so wonderful, but instead she just wanted to use me as a toy. I should have known better...no one that elegant and sophisticated could ever want someone like me." she wiped at her eyes quickly. "I'm sorry...I've got some self esteem issues since then..."

"I don't know why she left," Yoake said hollowly. "She and my daughter Moriko left a couple years ago. I thought maybe they'd come back. Th-they haven't yet." Gratefully he took the handkerchief she offered, though once he'd taken it, he wasn't sure what to do with it. Blow his nose? Dab away at tears? Was he supposed to give it back, or wash it first, then give it back? He sniffed and settled for wiping the beginnings of tears from his eyes. "Why wouldn't someone sophisticated want you, Chandra? You're...you're so elegant, I can't imagine you being with someone who wasn't sophisticated." He knew it was rude, but suddenly he was wondering who had left her like this, and why. Obviously this other female was a very inconsiderate individual, but with Chandra so upset, it would be wrong of him to ask her for an explanation.

"You're sweet to say that, but compared to some, I am quite simple. She taught me that..." she shook her head. "I'm sorry about your family. Seems we both have suffered in the name of love. Or am I being too noble?" she watched him suppressing the urge to wrap her tail around him. She wasn't sure how he'd react to such an intimate gesture and she didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable. "You can keep the handkerchief." she said as she saw him ponder what exactly to do with it. "I have a dozen like it at home." she smiled reassuringly even if it felt forced.
She glanced up at the sky, now only light with the remnants of the sun, it having finally slipped past the hills around the lake. "My favorite time of day." she said quietly. "When the light goes, and the stars come out to play. Sweet, cool, refreshing darkness...everyone can forgive what happens under the light of the moon...even me."

Yoake flashed Chandra a grateful smile and blew his nose. "Thank you," he murmured as he folded it up and put it in his collar. As for her sentiments? "I don't think you're being too noble. Nor do I think that you're simple. You're elegant, Chandra, and though it may only be a preference of mine, I think elegance is worth more than being fanciful. Whoever 'she' is, I am certain that she never deserved you."
Only when Yoake's ears had gotten the news did his brain get involved in the conversation-making progress. Embarrassed by his own outburst, Yoake fell silent and watched the last fingers of sunset fade from the sky. "It's a wondrous time of day," he agreed. The moon hadn't yet risen, but he still found a question he'd been wondering since he met Chandra come up. "May I ask you a question, if it isn't too personal?"

Chandra blushed just slightly, ducking her head. "You're far to kind. Really." she said looking over at him, a smile twitching at the corners of her mouth. "You are quite dashing yourself, you know, and you seem to have a way with words."
She recovered herself enough to look back up at the sky and absently stretched her wings needing to readjust them. Her ear flicked at his question and she turned to face him. "I don't see why not." she said. "I don't think there's anything you could ask that I would get offended by." she said honestly.
