The flu had really done a doozy on Sailor Europa's patrol schedule, and she hadn't gotten back to Eos about going out patrolling together until several weeks later. Between their talk and now, the eternal senshi had wracked her brain trying to figure out what she needed to get Eos up to speed on. Knights for sure, but further back than that she was uncertain. The biggest hint was Eos's consternation over the moons of Jupiter. Although Europa had always suspected the connection between the senshi's names and stellar objects, it seemed to her that Eos had left before their cosmic origins were confirmed.

As she awaited Eos's arrival, Europa checked over the list she'd made of points to hit. There was plenty on it that struck her as downright depressing - the dark mirror, the negaverse's growing power - but there were happily more positive points that she could explain, as well. Right at the top of her list, she had circled "space travel!!!" with a bright red pen. Because who could resist the joys of space travel? She didn't get any sort of monetary compensation for patrolling the city by moonlight - but being able to take off to her ancient homeworld once a week was certainly a perk!

Europa checked both her phone and her senshi sense, scanning the area for any power signatures. On the chaos front, things seemed pretty clear, which was the best you could ask for when you were trying to bring another senshi up to speed. On the order front, Europa sensed a few others moving through the area - including one low-ranked signature that seemed to be coming her way.

Moving into the light of a streetlamp, Europa gazed down the path and waited. "I hope you brought questions," she called to who she could only hope was Eos. "I have answers."

She'd been a bag of nerves all through the day. She hadn't been able to concentrate, and even the secretary at work had commented on how long it was taking her to alphabetise the folders. Usually she'd fly through them no problem, but it had taken her a good few minutes to work out if J came before K or not.

Whether it was excitement or anxiety was a different matter. Eos didn't know, but had a sneaking suspicion that it was a mixture of the two.

She'd powered up at home, in her room. Whilst her first time had been a couple of days ago and she'd powered up outside, this time she'd wanted somewhere completely familiar in order to try and calm these nerves. The first time had just been a quick power up and then a power down again. Nothing serious, no patrolling - she hadn't wanted to run the risk of getting herself into a battle situation. She wasn't ready for that, not quite yet. First she had to get training, and that was what tonight was all about. Europa had recovered from her flu, as had Eos, and now they were both ready to get cracking with this thing. She'd been organised, as per usual, and grasped a tattered piece of paper with numbered questions on it.

She jumped out of the window, falling a storey and landing on the ground with a small 'thud!'. She'd expected it to hurt a little, having forgotten her increased abilities as a senshi. She smiled, and quickly set off towards the meeting place Europa had set. She could sense her friend before she could see her - the power signature was huge, she'd never felt one like it before. She heard Europa call out, and smiled as she came into view - though the smile soon gave way to a look of awe. "Are those...wings?" She had wings. On her butt. And pretty frilly things, that reminded Eos of a jellyfish. This wasn't the Europa she remembered.

At Eos's question, Europa craned her neck around to check out her buttwings. She'd had them so long that she'd almost forgotten about the effect they could have on first viewing. "Yeah, sort of," she admitted. "I mean, I can't fly. They don't do anything. It's just for decoration." They were pretty cool looking, although she was happier about her jellyfish tendrils. The wings were a mark of rank, but the tendrils made better impromptu bandages.

"When we level up, it goes from Sailor - what you are - to Super, and then to Eternal," explained Europa, smoothing out her frills and flashing a sheepish smile at Eos. "That's what I am. The buttwings come with the rank." She wasn't sure there'd been any eternal senshi running in their circle when Eos was still with the Basterds. Castor had been one of the first, but whether or not that had happened after Selena moved away Europa could not recall.

"Anyway," she said, brandishing the paper in her hands, "I've got a list of topics to cover, or you could ask me questions. It works in either direction, I'm pretty sure. However, to get things started, something's been bothering me." Europa pursed her lips. "When I was talking about the moons of Jupiter, it seemed like you had no idea what I was talking about. You know the senshi are from space, right?"

That just seemed self-evident to her. After all, if you met enough of them you were bound to realize sooner or later that they were all named after moons and asteroids and stars. "We each draw our power from a celestial object. Mine's Europa. It's the fourth-largest moon of Jupiter. You know. The gas giant? Take a left at Mars and keep going? It's huge. You can't miss it."

She had to admit, she was disappointed that the buttwings didn't allow you to fly. Still, they were a pretty decoration and obviously a symbol of achieving the prestigious status of an eternal senshi. Eos obviously had a lot to learn before she could even hope of gaining such a rank.

But back to business. Europa was also clutching a piece of paper, and so Eos was hopeful of an educational and informative evening. She was really grateful that Europa was taking time to teach her all of this - even more so now she knew what a rank she'd ascended to. An eternal senshi surely had other, more important things they could be doing?

Still, the mention of space threw her.

"I...what?" Space was somewhere up in the sky, beyond what they could really see and definitely beyond what they could reach. Or at least, that's what Eos had always thought. Either way, she was fairly sure she'd come from her mother's (bless her soul) womb rather than from somewhere up in the sky. A brief mental image of baby-delivering herons crashing down from space filled her vision and amused her for a moment, but then Europa was talking some more and Eos forced herself to concentrate.

Now Europa mentioned it, she did remember doing a class project on Jupiter, and Europa had been one of the moons. But still, she'd never made the connection and even if she had would have just assumed it a coincidence. "I don't really understand. How can we be from space - we are human, right?" She didn't want to suddenly discover that as well as being a sailor senshi, she was also a blue tentacle monster called Phil.

Europa (and every other senshi, she imagined) had gone through the same thought process upon learning about their extra-terrestrial origins. In her own, personal, case, however, she looked far too much like her parents and had heard her mother recount the nine hours she'd spent in labor too many times to have any doubt. Angus and Nellie were her earthly, biological parents. Her soul, however, had come from somewhere else.

"We're human," she assured Selena. "Our parents are really our parents. We're not some kind of intergalactic changelings." Tapping a pair of fingers to her sternum, Europa explained. "You know about Starseeds, right? It's sort of like your soul in crystalized form. It's in your chest, sort of." As far as she knew, you couldn't find a Starseed on an x-ray, or else the phenomenon would be better documented. "We have special Starseeds that connect us to the places we're named after. Those came from space, I think. Tallulah and Selena are from Earth and Europa and Eos are from space and they're the same people. Does that make sense?"

It was okay if Selena didn't immediately take to the logic. It had taken Europa a while to grasp as well. "It's a bit much to take in, and there's a lot more to it. We're reincarnated, and each of us lived a thousand years ago on our planets? And-" This was the best part. Europa flicked her senshi phone out of the air and held it up for Selena to see.

"We can go to space. I can go to Europa. It's beautiful." Her world had grown on her and grown on her until it was one of the most precious things she had. "I could take you there and explain the rest, without us having to worry about attracting youma. Would you like to go? It's quick."

This was never a situation she'd ever expected to be in. Aliens may have existed, but they were millions and billions and trillions of lightyears away. And they had two stalks with eyes on top and seventy-two fingers and toes. Still, despite her adamant opinions, she released a noticable sigh of relief when Europa reassured her that she was human. The mention of her parents caused a slight tension in the corners of her lips, but it faded again soon enough.

Starseeds had been mentioned to Eos before, but never in much detail. She knew roughly where they were located and that they were why she was Eos - because she had a special glowing thing inside of her. But as to exactly what they were, well, that was a different story. She'd never heard it described as a soul, but hearing it suddenly seemed to click. That...actually made sense. Sort of. And then the whole coming from space thing started to make sense. Sort of.

"Uhm...kinda." It was all a lot to grasp in a short space of time, but Europa couldn't really have explained it any better. Unable to help herself, Eos glanced to her chest, not really sure what she was expecting - it wasn't like her starseed was suddenly going to jump out and do a dance for her. Still, it was odd, knowing there was something that special buried inside of her. The reincarnation was new, and Eos looked up with a puzzled expression. So, to get this all straight, Selena was Selena and was from earth etc etc. But Eos, who was the starseed inside of her, was reincarnated from someone in space a thousand years ago? ...Man, her brain hurt.

Europa produced her senshi phone, and Eos frowned as she began to reach for hers, figuring Europa was about to show her something. But then came the bombshell. Space was accessible. Her mouth fell open for a moment before she managed to catch herself, but her eyes were still wide as she regarded her mentor carefully. Was this a joke? The dark-haired senshi didn't seem like the type to joke about such important matters, but then Eos had been gone for a while an Europa could have turned into a clown in that time.

Still...she seemed too genuine for it to be a joke.

"Seriously?" she finally managed to choke out, glancing to the phone Europa was clutching. Did it turn into a magical spaceship or something? The invitation was offered, and it didn't take the young senshi long to reply. "Yes please!"

"Yeah!" agreed Europa, already itching to depart. She had a lot of things she meant to check on around the capitol, namely her small garden. Flicking out her senshi phone, she held the device up demonstratively for Eos to look at. "Okay, watch carefully," said the senshi of the deep, closing a gloved hand around her friend's wrist. She wasn't sure she could concentrate properly and explain what she was doing at the same time, but she was going to try it.

"So, you use your senshi phone," she explained. "You close your eyes and you listen." It came intuitively now, but she was trying to repeat Kurma's original lesson for Eos. Hopefully the language wouldn't be too opaque. Europa shut her eyes.

"The universe sings this song in many voices. If you focus you'll hear it," said the senshi, trying to listen. Nope, can't talk and search the universe at the same time. "There's a part of it that's singing just for you. That's your homeworld. Once you find it, you hit the center button and you'll just go." The final bit of instruction delivered, Europa fell silent - searching. Her fingers twitched lightly against Eos's wrist, a moment before she depressed the center button on her phone - and then, in a rush of cold air, the world around them changed.

Europa's eyes snapped open, attuning once again to the art nouveau stylings of her homeworld. It too her a moment to place where they were in the capitol building - a broad upstairs hallway with a glass roof, through which the bloated curve of Jupiter was visible. The sight of the gas giant made Europa's hair stand on end, while an ancient whisper seemed to assure her, You wear blue for the ice, so you do not forget where you are from. Red is for Jupiter, so you do not forget who you serve.

Europa shook off the whisper. Past life weirdness was always prevalent on her moon, but that wasn't going to distract her. "Jupiter, obviously," she said, pointing to the planet above their head. "Europa's its fourth-largest moon. So," she said cheerfully, smiling at Eos. "Shall we take a look around?"

Europa said to watch carefully, and watch carefully she did, eyes tracking the white-gloved fingers of her friend as Eos tried to clear her head enough to make mental notes. The dark-haired senshi began speaking, and so she looked up to her face again, eyes then proceeding to flicker between her face and her fingers, not wanting to miss what was happening.

Listen? Songs? Universe? This all seemed very vague, but Eos was afraid to speak up and interrupt since it seemed Europa was concentrating pretty hard. She'd have to give it a go later - admittedly, sometimes she had felt like there was...something else out there. A gentle whisper that came and went, calling her but then disappearing just as quickly as it had appeared. She'd dismissed it as insanity brought about by all the s**t that had happened.

And then suddenly they were somewhere else, and it was cold, and Eos stumbled forwards out of habit. She slowly looked up, leaving her lower jaw behind as she did so, mouth gaping open as she studied the large room they were in and the billions of stars you could see through the glass roof. Oh, and that massive red planet. That was a planet, right? "...s**t." She wasn't really sure what else to say, and as soon as she'd said it Eos quickly regretting that her first word uttered in space had been an obscenity. Europa was obviously more used to this, and merely indicated that the massive red planet was Jupiter (which made sense now she said it) before offering to take a look around.

"I...uh, sure." She was somewhat lost for words. But geez, she was in space!

Europa certainly heard Eos's muttered expletive, but she only smiled at its utterance. "Yeah, it has that effect on people," she agreed. She'd been similarly wonderstruck on her first time, although, being there alone, didn't recall if she'd said anything the whole trip. And how would it have been for her past self who, as far as Europa understood, had lived on the tidally-locked moon her whole life but never seen Jupiter until ascending to her post as Senshi?

"Well, okay," she said, laughing a bit at her friend's tongue-tiedness. "We've got free run on the place. I've explored most of it, so I don't care where we go - there's the grand ballroom, or the greenhouse, or there's some kind of sculpture garden out back but it's fallen into ruin. The library? The surrounding town's a bit creepy, I went there with Euanthe..." The town was a town by her urban standards, at least. In ancient times it must have been a city.

Still directionless as she was, Europa steered the other senshi towards a wide, spiral staircase. "Otherwise I can just give you a highlights tour, I guess?" she giggled uncertainly. That seemed like a bit of a cop-out in all honesty. The point of this in the first place had been to give Eos a taste for space travel, but now that they were here, Europa was sort of keen on getting stuff done.

"Or we could stop by the greenhouse for a second, I need to check on something," she said, gesturing off the hallway the staircase deposited them to. "If you don't mind?"

Giving Eos a sympathetic look, she dragged the other girl through the nearest door, into a greenhouse full of stained glass and elegant scrollwork. The old beds were empty (Europa still hadn't fixed the plumbing), but her own makeshift rig in the center of the room was verdant. The senshi of the deep grinned.

"I brought the seeds and materials from Earth," she explained as she checked over different gauges and trellises. "But all the water's local. It was just an experiment, but I think it's working really well!"

To prove her point, she snapped a pair of ripe pea pods off the nearest vine, and offered one to Eos. "I am like ninety-five percent certain I haven't managed to make these poisonous," she said, snapping into her own. "Cheers?"

Damn, Europa had heard. What an impression to make - it would now forever be known that she, Sailor Eos, had stepped into space and her first word had been a curse. Not quite the Neil-Armstrong-eloquence she'd been after.

And then the dark-haired eternal started sprouting more nonsense. Except...well, it wasn't nonsense. Apparently there were rooms and gardens and all sorts, all grouped together in settlements that these supposed past lives had lived in. So she'd lived before...well, not she, Selena Adams. But she, Sailor Eos. There had been an Eos before, and now there was her. It was a lot to get her head around, and she kept getting the nasty feeling that she was standing there with wide eyes of awe and her bottom jaw on the floor.

Whether she sensed the blonde's difficulty in processing the enormity of the information, or whether she just wanted to hurry them along a little, Europa suggested a highlights tour and Eos nodded eagerly. Words weren't quite forming properly in her head at the moment.

A greenhouse was mentioned, and a million and one questions exploded into her head. Were there plants? Was it actually made of glass? Did it float ten feet off of the ground because there was no gravity, or was it bolted to the floor? Eos was quite happy to let Europa drag her off, and a new sense of awe fell over her again at the stained glasswork of the greenhouse.

This was all...it was all just amazing. Astonishing, even.

Still unable to muster words to justify how amazing this was, Eos stepped forwards to look at the makeshift beds Europa had created. She nodded, not wanting her friend to think she'd gone mute, before swallowing and finally managing to spit a few more words out. "So...there's water here?"

A bit of a stupid question - people wouldn't have been able to live here if there hadn't been water. Taking the pod she was offered, Eos followed Europa's example and snapped it open, inspecting the peas for a moment. They certainly looked normal. She looked up to the teal-haired girl and finally mustered one of the biggest grins she'd managed for a long, long time. Teeth and all. "Cheers!" And with that she popped the pod's contents into her mouth and began to chew.

The pea pods basically tasted like anything you'd buy at the grocery store, and when nothing bad immediately happened, Europa swallowed and took another bite, grinning as she chewed. Whether she got some kind of awful alien stomach bug later had yet to be seen - for now, she had all of the ingredients for salad growing on her hydroponic rig. She was already a vegetarian - as long as she could build up some variety and sustainability, Europa didn't see anything wrong with living on the fruits of the palace gardens.

"I've got big plans for this room," she said, swallowing. "Once I find someone who knows a thing or two about plumbing to get these old pipes working, I have a lot of things I want to plant!" She'd already poked around some on her own and made sure nothing was rusted or clearly broken, but when it came to the actual workings of the system she didn't know up from down. They didn't exactly teach complicated pipe repair in Home Economics.

"There's ice," answered Europa, pointing to the back door. "And an ocean, if you go deep enough...? I haven't. I'm just using surface ice - I bring it in, I fill up the bucket, it melts indoors and waters the plants."

Which concluded the entirety of what she knew about agriculture on a tiny scale - Europa had a lot more research to do before she stood a chance of making this endeavor viable. "I mean, I think that if everyone looked around their homeworlds, really looked at them? We're not so resource-poor as we think we are. These places could definitely be a long term option. I mean, just look at the Surrounding - they still had trees! Gardens and pools, even!"

Well, actually, Eos couldn't look at the surrounding because Eos had still been out of town then. Europa deflated a bit and explained as they left the room. "The surrounding is sort of the homeworld of the Zodiac senshi. It's more of a disk surrounding the solar system than a planet, though."

They meandered down the hallway. "If you've got any questions or see anything interesting or anything, really, just ask," said Europa conversationally.

The peas were tasty, and Eos happily finished her with a big satisfied grin. She probably looked like one of those children on the tv commercials trying to sell you food by spooning a huge helping into their mouths and chewing whole-heartedly.

She was still chewing as Europa started talking, so nodded to show she was listening. The idea of growing vegetation was fascinating - after all, until about ten minutes ago Eos hadn't even known there was air up here. But here they were, breathing and walking and talking and eating moon-grown-peas. What next, alien oompa-loompa helpers?

If only.

"This is amazing," Eos reiterated - she was sure Europa was already well aware of the epicness of this current situation, of this whole situation in general, but she somehow thought that by saying it again it made it less likely to suddenly disappear. The mention of the Surrounding caused her eyebrows to furrow in confusion, and she was just about to question the teal-haired eternal before she beat her to it and explained. "Ohhh...so they have a whole belt?" There were quite a few of them, so it made sense. She wondered how big Eos was.

"I've got hundreds and hundreds of questions, and I don't really know where to start." She took a few more moments sorting her mind as she walked, before finally picking the most pressing question, "So this was like a country? There was a whole civilization living here? Or like a whole other Earth?" And on Eos? The scale of this was too big for her mind to comprehend.
