Anthony Darrow had many things on his mind, it was true enough. Many things he needed to worry about, to work on, to figure out and to set right. He had a thousand problems, ranging from the surreal to the literal, from being powered up to his job at the library.
But that was all par for the course.
It would not be a normal day if he wasn't wondering, worrying, about something. He was all but used to it now, and he muddled his way through it with the usual efforts and almost grace he had become accustomed to. He was dutiful, loyal, and unwaveringly steadfast. A dedicated employee of literary and knighthood pursuits.
Except tonight.
Tonight, he was not acting as a defender of the innocent. He was not acting as a shelver of books. Tonight, he was a man in love with a woman. He was a boyfriend.
He was a knight in shining armor.
Standing on the roof of the library, he made sure everything was ready. There were hanging decorations, mostly soft string lights, paper flowers and lanterns, all in white. There was a table near the doorway to the stairs into the library, set with a table cloth and placements, flowers and a candle. So it fell in line with his last effort to be romantic for her, but he couldn't help himself. He loved seeing that look of joyful surprise on her face.
Now he just had to go pick her up. He powered up and leaped from the roof, his Knight stage making him feel more than capable, and a little bit younger. He bounced his way to her house, then caught his breath at her door before ringing the bell. She would find Camelot, in attire she had never seen before, standing before her.

Kyn passed the day in relative normality, going to work and coming home to papers to grade, dinner to make, a daughter to check in with and patrolling to do later on before bed. It was a hard life sometimes but she hardly minded the effort as it was for a good cause. It was certainly a hard balance between teacher, mentor, mother, girlfriend, Page, and friend. She was in so many random places, emotionally stunted after her brush with Benitoite. She kept her heart closer to home reserving it for her boyfriend and her daughter. Both she loved beyond comprehension.
When there was a knock at the door she put her paperwork aside, still dressed from the day, her heels kicked off the minute she crossed her threshold. She wasn't expecting anyone and Tony usually called. She paused by the mirror in the hall and let her hair down, dragging her hand through it to try and make herself look a little more presentable. She straightened her collar and put herself back together. Then she opened the door.
For a few minutes Kyndall could only stare. It was someone she knew rather well but in a wrapping she didn't recognize. It was different, shiny. She almost didn't believe it for a second, her mind slow to comprehend what she was seeing. Then it dawned on her with a flicker of recognition.
"You're a knight." she breathed, awed, walking around him in a circle. "Oh, Camelot, you're so handsome."
She moved back into her house and yanked him inside, kissing him passionately. Suddenly her night was looking up. She kicked the door closed so no one could see them and put him in danger. She wrapped her arms around him and held him close a while after the kiss ended, wrapping her mind around the change.
"You really are a knight in shining armor." she purred, "and you're all mine."

Camelot knew it was a little silly, appearing at her door while powered up. It was a risk, he could draw someone to them, but there were no powered up energies within his ability to feel them, and he was reaching out as far as he could go. Sure, someone could see them, but he was confident that no one would. And if they did, they probably wouldn't care.
He was just there to show off a little bit and, of course, sweep her off her feet.
Then she pulled him into the house and he was the one stumbling, his lips meeting hers. He closed his eyes, fire burning its way through his body, electrifying every nerve ending as he held her in his arms and even hoisted her up off the floor, keeping her face even with his. He looked at her, smiling softly.
One of the many advantages of being tall and super powered.
"Yes, I am." Both statements were true, and thus one answer was sufficient. He didn't consider himself a knight in shining armor, per se, but he knew she did, and that was enough. He switched the way he was holding her, putting one arm under her legs and the other behind her back, letting her hang on to his neck, as he moved back to the door.
He managed to close it behind him before he started to run with her in his arms.
"Hold on tight," he said to her with a grin, jumping at a trash bin and then up onto a roof when he found a low enough option to do so.

She didn't mind the shift as he lifted her up, bringing her closer to his body. She was content in his arms, forgetting any other obligation she'd had before this point in the night. She'd been unenthusiastic about patrolling and cleaning up and now she had a diversion that not only pleased her but gave her a good excuse not to focus on what she'd been planning. Kyndall could make up for it later.
She hummed, taking his lips again, briefly. She thought she'd have to battle him on one point at least or deal with his self deprecating denial of her observation. He was a modest man despite how wonderful he was. It was part of the reason she loved him and part of the reason she got annoyed with him sometimes. At times like this she was glad he accepted she thought the world of him. It generally wasn't a misplaced belief. She was steadily coming to think he was the love of her life, perhaps being more happy with him than she'd ever been at any other time.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and trusted him, holding him tightly as he supported her. When he made his first leap Kyndall laughed in amazement and the sound echoed in the night air. Her stomach turned a little flip filling with butterflies from adrenaline and joy. She loved seeing him this excited and happy. Seeing him pleased was as good as being pleased herself, and she was.
"I love you." she hummed, resting her head on his shoulder. She had no idea what he was up to but didn't care if she disappeared from the world with him. As long as it was with him she'd cross fire. She slowly came to recognize where they were headed, though, as being toward the library.
"What are you planning?" she asked quietly. "Come to sweep me off my feet properly?"
It was so romantic she felt like she might go everywhere at once.

"Actually, yes," he laughed, leaping up to the roof of the library. He put her down then, letting her look around and thinking he should have blindfolded her or had her close her eyes before setting out.
But he supposed the effect was still the same.
He set her down carefully and smiled at her. He grinned at her, kissing her lightly on the cheek.
"I thought you might like to have a night out, with me. Free of any obligations. Just a lady, and her knight." He moved to kneel in front of her, bowing his head with a tender, teasing air about him. But, really, he meant it. Though it was his ideal to pledge his service to any who need him, he was her knight away from the battle field.
It was his love for her that bound them. He wanted to spend every moment he could making her happy.
"I have to confess right up front, though. I didn't cook the dinner. I bought it. But they do a much better job of it than I do." He grinned at her, looking up at her lovingly. He was in over his head, his feelings for her making him dopey and sweet.
"Hopefully I don't lose points for that. Ah. The rest, though." He motioned to the decorations.

She laughed, not understanding how serious he was about sweeping her off her feet. She touched down and immediately saw the scene on the roof laid before her. Kyndall was slow to take it in, surrounded by all of his carefully laid plans and decorations. With a short gasp she clenched her hands together in wonder, spinning in the very cute fairyland he created for them. It reminded her of their previous date, if it could be called that, in the library.
They'd come a long way since then.
"It's almost too much to take in." she told him.
First his being a knight and now this laid out before her. She was in awe and just when she thought she couldn't love him anymore than she did he did something like this to prove her wrong. Times like this she fell for him all over again. She pulled him to her and kissed him again, this time simply and with a purpose. She needed to show him how much he meant to her and how touched she was by the gesture. Her eyes were shining with happy tears. Really, she was very lucky.
"You're amazing, my love." she whispered softly to him, laughing with his confession. Safer that then him trying to cook on his own as she'd learned it the past few months. "It's beautiful."
This lady was hopeless for her knight and moved forward to touch one of the paper flowers, smiling to herself. Everything about this and about him seemed familiar and yet now in the same way deja vu clung to you and wouldn't let you go. She put it aside reasoning that if it felt familiar that must mean she was where she was supposed to be for that moment in time. She belonged to him, bound in love and his partner in the knighthood.
"No, you don't lose points. I can't believe you did this. How did you know I needed a night off?"
He always seemed to know when she needed something like this to take her mind off other heavier things.

Camelot smiled, feeling proud of himself and knowing it was a silly thing to feel. But he had made her smile, and gave her heart that fluttering feeling. He hoped so, at least, as he felt it only fair to return the favor each time he just set eyes on her.
He was compelled to show her how much she meant to him, and how she made him feel, even if he wasn't that good at it in his own opinion. Being romantic was profoundly difficult, and being uniquely so was impossible. He had already borrowed the one good idea he had from himself, and would have to change it next time.
There would, of course, be a next time.
Maybe he'd cook that time.
"I'm your knight," he said reasonably, though his eyes were flickering with mischief, "it is my duty to know." He powered down, though, to keep them from being a target. He smiled at her, and caressed her cheek tenderly. "And I'm your boyfriend. I like seeing you happy."

"Have I told you lately that you are the best and most amazing boyfriend I could have ever imagined?"
If she hadn't she certainly meant to. Kyndall felt impossibly lucky. She loved him and he understood her and she him. She realized with a start that he was her best friend. She'd never thought about it in those terms before but he'd been her best friend, somehow, before they'd even taken this step. She told him everything and confided and leaned on him when she could not stand on her own. He knew her, inside and out. She needed him.
"You're very good at what you do, then."
Something about him had always been familiar but now he felt especially so, her mind seeing armor on him even once he powered down. It was only a flash and she put it off as the shock of seeing him as her knight. Her knight...even that intonation sounded right in her ears. She couldn't pinpoint what it meant but she'd just always equated it to telling her this was meant to be.
"I like seeing you happy, too," and she saw a smile on his lips that cheered her. Maybe it was her turn to surprise him, next time, to sweep him off his feet. But for now she'd enjoy the ride. "What do we do first?"

"No, not recently," Yesterday, probably, but he was just teasing her. He grinned at her, in that way that said he did not believe her, and would not no matter how many times she said it. He would constantly keep striving to earn it though.
It was a fun endeavor, even if it seemed impossible to ever reach. It was good, in that sense, as he would always reach for that level of good, that level of love. He wanted her to be endlessly, blissfully, impossibly happy.
He would be her knight, forever.
This realization fell on him heavily, and he looked at her with a smile on his face. She was his best friend as well, though he didn't know that was what she was thinking. His mind was full of other thoughts. How much she meant to him, how close they had gotten, how much they shared. They were soldiers together, they were lovers, they were friends. He had found the woman he wanted to be with forever.
He'd have to see to that. But first, a night together without any worries. Just each other.
"Whatever you'd like. I'm your knight, remember? I am here at your service, and have prepared what I thought you might like. I hope I have done you well, my Lady."

"You are my knight and don't you forget it."
Kyndall teased, moving to tap his nose lightly with her fingertip. She grinned at him and felt light hearted. It was a wonderland around her and she was still struggling to come up to speed. If it was possible she fell in love with him all over again. He looked boyishly charming surrounded by fairy lights and looking very proud of himself for what he'd done. She was, too. It was very romantic.
There was no doubt whatsoever in Kyndall's mind that she was going to spend her life with him. Barring something drastic and unforeseen she had no other plans. She would always be his friend, his lover, his partner and his soul mate. She didn't know how to be anything else and couldn't if she tried. He was ingrained into her as much as her memories or her child.
"Maybe dinner." she suggested mildly. "You did slave over a hot telephone to create it, after all."
Her laugh echoed in the night air, being carried away from them on spring breezes. It wasn't really meant to offend him, only to tease a little. She slid and arm around his waist and squeezed lightly, moving them both toward the little table. Whatever it was smelled good. She sniffed appreciatively and turned to look at him, a lopsided smile on her lips.

He smiled at her as she drew her hand back from poking his nose, his expression dopey. It was as if she had just cast a spell over him with the simple touch, and he had fallen all the more in love with her because of it. He smiled and took a breath.
He laughed at her teasing him about the dinner, though he should have known it was coming. He moved to help her sit down and let her sit first, politely moving her chair for her. He served the dinner and sat down with her, ready to enjoy the night with her for what it was.
He loved her. He loved her with all his soul and he wanted every night for the rest of their lives to be as special as this one. Not exactly, in what they did or how they dressed or where they were, but the feeling that rose in him when he was near her.
He knew then and there that he would bend his life to making it happen.
But first, he would give her a night she'd never forget.
