Not one word, Syd snarled as she left the tent. She had been bandaged up and her FEAR shield was back to normal, but physically she was still a little tired. It was only the fact that she knew she wouldn't be able to sit still any longer that had her out here once again stepping into the Sahara heat. Izy said happily, laughing his head off still in the back of her mind.
Wonderful imagery there, she drawled. I can't believe I ate that cookie--I was probably more ridiculous than he was!

<Sasha, my love. My sweetest bird. Why do you insist on coddling that inept man? Honestly, my dove.> Nona sounded concerned more than anything, her voice a gentle trill.
He's just so sweet, Nona. He's never made me feel uncomfortable.
The Alkonost snorted, falling silent once more.
As Sasha dashed after Syd, she became too aware that the heat was not as wonderful or bearable as she'd first thought.
I wish I had another cookie.
"Syd! Syd, I'm coming with you!"

Syd looked up, relaxing slightly at the idea of not patrolling alone. "Sure," she said, waiting for Sasha to catch up before she started walking again. "I... um... well, I'm afraid Izy isn't very... nice when Jerry is around," she admitted. "And I still find myself slipping up and repeating him--"
A hint of pink crossed her face. "So... if I call him something... strange, when he's there, I'm sure I'll never be able to live it down," she finished, having already caught herself a few times almost using the wrong name.

Sasha gave a breathless laugh as she pulled up alongside Sydney, drawing her hair over her shoulder; she started to braid it as they walked.
"Jerry is.. he's a very special man," Sasha smiled. "He's so sensitive and he loves music and.. I don't know. He and I seem to have so very much in common. He was the first person I played my flute for when I got it back.. after that ah.. that mission."
<He's awkward. He's bumbling. He wouldn't know his way around a ghoul -->
Sasha waved a hand, changing the topic.
"Why do you repeat Izy? I mean.. when I first bonded with Nona, I found myself talking to her out loud, but now.. it's just.. it's easier to keep it all up here," she tapped at her temple.

"Because he has this..." Syd hesitated. "You know how there's those silly shows about people with the little voice in their head? The one that says what they're thinking, but would never say out loud? Are there even shows like that? Or stories, at least. Like the angel and the devil on your shoulders, you know? Well, I sort of think of Izy as my devil," she said.
"And he's actually--well, even if I personally wouldn't think something, when he says it I often find myself agreeing. So when he calls Jerry Mr. Sparkles--I can't help but sort of see his point?" she said sheepishly.

Sasha looked thoughtful for a long moment, finishing her braid before reaching for a tie so that she could secure the ends.
"Well.. I.. I guess? I mean.. well, Izy wouldn't do anything to hurt you, though, would he?" Sasha looked a little mortified. She liked to think that she'd come to an understand with her own bonded weapon - Nona, while still obnoxiously rowdy at times, had mellowed out. Sasha was eternally thankful.
"I-I mean.. like. You know.. he wouldn't put you in danger, would he?"

"Izy? Hurt me?" Syd asked. "Why would he do something like that? He shares my body, I really don't see him being suicidal," she decided. "I think he's rather fond of me, actually."
She jerked as she heard someone yelling and broke into a run, racing towards where the moon hunter was fighting an oversized scorpion. She was already shooting before she got there, dashing into the fight without a thought to safety and taking a heavy hit from the tail to her shoulder.
Syd was never going to like scorpions. EVER.

Sasha watched as Sydney ran off. While waiting for her return, Sasha paced in circles - there was something strange on the sands, but as Sasha bent to get a better look, the hot brown sand swept it away. Sasha continued with her concerns upon Syd's return. "Well, I .. I didn't mean like.. hurt you. I meant like.. give you bad advice, I guess." At that moment Sasha's phone chirped. She quickly pulled it out to check the screen, an impossibly huge smile brightening her entire face. "Ohhh, Sydney! The doctor is so wonderful -- he packed me an mp3 player in one of the first aid kits." Sasha gave a little happy twirl. Quote: 81 - 100: You walk around and suddenly hit something odd in the ground. They look like strange flecks of dark red, but the sand quickly sweeps it away.

Syd stopped, letting her breath come back as she stared blankly at the life hunter. Really. "That's great, Sasha," she said quietly, shoving her hair out of her face and looking at the wound on her shoulder for a moment. It would be fine, she figured after a moment. It was just a scratch thanks to her FEAR shield.
She started forward again, her hands tightening on Izy as she waited for the next monster to come out. "What songs does it have on it?" she asked curiously now that she had calmed down.

Sasha snapped out of her giddy little haze when she noticed Syd's wound, promptly tucking her phone away before she reached out to check the damage the scorpion's tail had left behind.
"It.. gosh, Syd, you're going to be full of holes if you aren't more careful. When we get back to the tent I'll take a better look at it and clean it up for you.. do you want to head back now? ...or are you okay to keep going?"

She weighed her options. No, seriously, she was listing pros and cons in her mind, aided by Izy, who had a LOT to say about the entire situation. Such as,
But if they went back to the tent Syd would be left watching Mr. Sparkles prance around fighting sweatervests instead of staying out here fighting scorpions.
So... the real question was... which was worse, scorpions or sweatervests?
"I can keep going," Syd said, moving her coat so it covered the hole in her shirt. She didn't want to get sand in the wound.

"Well.. if you say so, Syd. But once we're finished out here we are marching straight back to the infirmary so that.." She caught sight of a Moon hunter in the distance, one who looked like they might need some help. Sasha let out a low, "Moons always needing help," before dashing off. Upon her re-arrival, Sasha was dabbing at a small gash on her cheek and another along her forearm. "I swear, I hate bugs, Syd. I just hate them." She noticed too late. The mist hunter stepped forward, staring at the hole in front of them blankly--she KNEW that--
Izy bellowed in her mind. Instinctively she brought the crossbow up, shooting even as she dodged the massive stinger. The fight was fast and brutal, leaving her FEAR shield dangerously weak.
Izy said as she took a few steps backward.
"I think I do too," Syd said, looking over at Sasha. "Back to the tents?" she asked.

Sasha gave a small nod, looping her arm through Sydney's. "Back to the tents, then.. I'll .. augh, Syd, you're just a mess. I'll clean you up, okay? And then.. maybe we can um.. I don't know. Go rest for a bit? If you'd .. if you'd rather go to the tests to rest, I'll go grab a first aid kit in the infirmary?" Sasha liked the sound of that idea. As they walked, Sasha pulled out her phone so that she could send a quick text back to Clarice. lizbot Text to Clarice: Thank you so much, Clarice! Everything seems to be quiet so far!
