It was one night, rather early in the evening, that Jett was staring up at his ceiling, pondering. Deep thinking was not an activity he usually engaged in, particularly about things such as the meaning of life, thought tonight, some bug had wormed into his head and plagued him with a thousand thoughts he didn’t have the answer to. He tossed and turned, checked his phone—skimmed his stocks—tried to sleep again…
And was met with the thoughts, again.
This time, it wasn’t solely curiosities of higher beings and the purpose of life, this time it was Raven.
He lay in bed, thinking about the girl, about their relationship, about their time in the Surrounding, about how they’d met…
For a good half hour, he couldn’t get his mind off of her. Frustrated that the girl was the cause of lack of sleep—and wasn’t even there—he decided to remedy the situation. He rolled out of bed, powered up, and walked through his mirror.
Unannounced, he invited himself into Raven’s room, stepping out through the full length mirror on the back of her bedroom door. Almost immediately, he powered down into his pajamas—loose gray cotton pants and a white tank top—and brushed himself off.

Raven was laying on her bed in her nightgown and curled around her dog, gently stroking the silky fur. She blinked, when the mirror on the back of her door rippled, and gave a small noise of shock when Remarque stepped out of it. “Well, hello there, Jett.” She laughed when he changed out of his powered form and into his more normal self.
Though, were those wings? He now had the wings of an eternal senshi just like Leto? Well, that was pretty cool. “I liked your wings, seems you got even stronger again, hm?” She grinned, for once not jealous of such a thing. “So, what brings you to see little ‘ol me? Is something wrong?” The blonde sat up and moved over some, allowing some room for her boyfriend to sit down if he wanted to. “Did you just miss me?”

“Yeah, something like that,” Jett huffed, glad his girlfriend had the decency to scoot over for him. “Nothing’s wrong, per se, I guess I just couldn’t sleep. What are you up to?” he asked, ruffling the fur on the top of the dog’s head before he took a seat next to the blonde, reaching for her blanket and tucking himself in.
There was probably some danger in powering up just to take a shortcut to get to his girlfriend’s house, though he reasoned that she probably powered up before heading out all the time. It wasn’t as if it was the first time he’d mirror-walked over here, though was the first time he had done so unannounced. Snuggling against her pillows, he remained propped up and made himself comfortable. His mind was still trickling with questions and thoughts, and for as blunt as Jett could be, a part of him still wasn’t really sure why he had come here. Raven had welcomed him easily enough and—hell, it was the first time he’d gotten to see what she slept it.
He was a bit disappointed that the girl would be dressed in something so modest; he’d half expected her to sleep in the nude. It was probably for the best that she was clothed, though; he was already distracted enough and that added mental picture was probably just going to clutter up his thoughts even more.

Raven chuckled, then flushed, flipping her short blonde ponytail behind her back. She liked keeping it up at night, even if it was short…knots still happened to people with short hair, after all. She snuggled closer to Jett as he got into her bed, completely willing to cuddle with her boyfriend for the first time in…Well, in a long while. “I’m just chilling out. Glad that I’m not sick anymore and all that jazz.” She grinned, cuddling both her dog and Jett.
“So, again, explain the wings? When did this happen? I’m so proud of you. I have the best boyfriend in the entire city, it seems.” Maybe this was over kill, but, she was in a rather lovey mood…being isolated for so long was always good to soften a person up, like a tub of ice cream that had been left out too long. Right now all of Raven’s feelings were goopy and gooey. How unlike her.
She yawned once and rubbed at her eyes, releasing her dog for a moment. “So, you expect to sleep better here, hm? I guess I don’t mind. It’ll be nice and warm if you stay.”

A little smirk had crossed Jett’s face at her praise; he wasn’t one to shut out any sort of ego-boosting words, though he found himself wondering if Raven had gotten into too much cough syrup during her bout of sickness. He kissed the girl’s temple as she spoke, deciding that if she was going to be such a good girlfriend and shower him with admiration, he wouldn’t chastise her for talking so much that he couldn’t tell what she wanted to have a conversation about.
“Happened a few weeks ago. Ran into a cat at a graveyard. I told you about it,” he attempted to remind her, though whether or not his story was true was up in the air. “You fell asleep on the phone with me. Snored a little, too. It would have been cute if you hadn’t sounded so much like a bear.” He gave her cheek a playful pinch for good measure, and then moved onto the other topic, equally playfully about that one. “Not sure if I’ll get any sleep here or not, but I figure it can’t hurt to try. Couldn’t sleep back home because I couldn’t get you out of my head, so I figured I’d come bug you in retaliation. Besides, talking with you always me to sleep, so if I stick around long enough, I’m guaranteed to get to sleep in no time.”

Raven made a face, trying to think of any mention of a cat in a graveyard…and came up with absolutely nothing. “Well. I must have been a little drugged up then. I don’t remember a damn thing about any of that, sorry.” The blonde gave a yawn then shoved him slightly. “I don’t snore…and I shouldn’t put your to sleep…you’re such an a**.”
Though. He was hers, so. Maybe that didn’t matter too much. “Now…what was on your mind, eh? Just me? If so, I’m completely flattered.” That wasn’t a lie at the very least. She needed to see more of Jett, she wanted to be more involved in his life…even if it was only to make sure there were no more hiccups like that situation a few months ago with that other girl.
No, Jett was hers…and hers alone. She grinned at the thought, then cuddled closer to the other blonde, giving a happy sounding sigh.

A grin sprouted on Jett’s face as his girlfriend moved closer to him. He gave her a squeeze—instinctively, and then just let out a content sigh. “Mostly just you, yeah. Thought about a lot of things. Past few months, back to the Surrounding. Back to high school, even. Back when you used to wear that cute cheerleaders outfit.”
A warmer smile crossed his face as nostalgia washed through him. He rolled his head to nuzzle the girl next to him—a display of affection often hard to elicit from him. “Anyway, it got me thinking to high school. And a girlfriend I used to have.”
He was quiet for a few seconds and then asked, “Rave, you ever been in love before?”

“Ah…” She let out a wistful sigh at the memory of the cheerleading outfit. “God, sometimes I really miss highschool. I loved just…getting people to stare at me in that outfit.” She always had liked being the center of attention, well…that had been impossible at HITS, and DCU was just so…big, it was nearly impossible to be the center of attention there too.
When he mentioned a past girlfriend, a pang of jealousy flooded through her and she pressed just a little bit closer, not really wanting to seem completely possessive, but…Well. That was hard to lie about. “Have I ever been in love?”
Well, sneaky old Jett. Throwing a curve ball like that. “Well…Not really. Unless you count…you know. Now. My dog and I.” She gave a sigh, ruffling the dog’s ears and smiling fondly at it. “I think her and I are soulmates.”

“Sweetheart, maybe you don’t want to say you and your dogs are soulmates,” he asked, smirking. He rubbed her back slightly when she moved nearer to him. “I’d hate for people to start thinking you’re into all sorts of weird s**t. But I’m glad you like her. Would have been disappointed if she’d turned out to be a brat of a dog.” Lifting his head a bit, he eyed the dog snuggling Raven and couldn’t help but smile at it slightly.
Jett had always had a soft spot for dogs, and he might not have been able to have one, but he was glad Raven did. Even if it was kind of dorky looking. “You think you’re in love with me?” he asked when he flopped his head back down on the pillow. “How do you know?”

“Psh. Who said I was in love with you?” She laughed a bit at the mention of the dog being a brat, and just shrugged. “Yeah, it would have sucked if she was a brat…but, that would have made us even more perfect for one another. You know. I’m a brat, she’s a brat. You’re…” She grinned then leaned over, pecking him on the lips.
“Well, I suppose. I could be in love with you. If you don’t think that’s a terribly dorky thing to say, or a terribly cliché thing to talk about…” She didn’t want him to think she was sappy. That was a good word. Sappy. Because she wasn’t. Being sappy was how you got hurt. Writing stupid love poems, and chasing people around like a lost puppy…that was how you would get hurt and your heart broken and all that jazz.
“Do you think you’re in love with me?”

The problem with asking deep questions was that you often had them flashed in your face. Jett had been curious to know Raven’s views towards him, though hadn’t really prepared an answer. Thoughtfully, he murmured, “Hmm,” though it served as nothing more than an effort to buy more time.
“I don’t know,” he answered—truthfully. Jett was better at lying than he was telling the truth—especially when it came to emotions. But if he did love her, why should he lie to her? And if he didn’t, why was he with her?
His eyes drifted from her ceiling to her face and he asked, “What do you think love is?”

Well, that wasn’t unexpected. They were still young after all…why would they know if they were in love with one another, after all…She paused, listening to his question, then shrugged. “I haven’t figured that out yet. I think it’s some sort of cross between a chemical imbalance…maybe related to…I don’t know. Some sort of chemical imbalanced disease…but, yeah. A cross between that, and the greatest thing in the world. Warm fuzzies and all.”
Maybe not the brightest thing to say…but who really could figure out what love was. It was a killer that was for sure. Look at Romeo and Juliet, they both died for the wonderful and terrible thing that was ‘love’. People got killed every day from jealous ex’s and got stalkers professing their love to one another. There were television shows devoted to nothing but the ‘darker’ side of love, showing people murdering one another to get a guy or what not.
Love was just a strange thing. But, then again, it was as needed as air to some, and maybe that fact alone was what made it so…desired.
Raven gave a heavy sigh and pressed closer to Jett. “Is this what’s been bothering you, Jett? Deciding if you love me or not?”

A little smirk slid onto his face and Jett continued to eye the ceiling. “Do I really come across as the type of guy who stays up late thinking about love?” he asked, though there was a sort of airiness in his voice, as if he hadn’t entirely made up his mind on the subject. Certainly daydreaming about love went against his three basic principles.
Fear nothing, regret nothing, love nothing.
Love was the greatest contradiction of all and was often the breeding ground for fear and regret. Would you fear to lose her? Fear to make yourself a fool in front of her? Fear to hurt her? And regret—regret saying something, regret spending all that time with her, regret opening yourself up to her?
But then, what was the point of being in a relationship? To look good? Because it was socially acceptable? Was Raven just an accessory?
She was a team-mate, a confidant—at least in name only, it wasn’t as if he’d ever really trusted her with anything. He’d gone out of his way to keep her happy, had risked his life for her—that had to count for something, right?
And yet, he couldn’t make heads or tails of it. On the Surrounding, had it just been heat of the moment? It wasn’t like he’d known her that well back then, and certainly he hadn’t had any deep-rooted emotions for her back then.
Jett’s mind was a muddled mess, and emotions—and deciphering them—were never really his strong point. Without answers to his internal conflict, he was left frustrated and looked from the ceiling to the girl next to him. “If there isn’t love, what does that make us? What am I to you?” he asked, agitation creeping into his voice.

Raven watched Jett and shook her head slightly, grinning at him after a long moment. “No, you don’t seem like the type, but you must have been thinking about something that bothered you enough to come visit me out of the blue.” She waited in the darkness, wondering if he was going to say anything else, the silence was almost to the point of being uncomfortable.
But, people who were in relationships weren’t supposed to have uncomfortable silences, were they? They were supposed to have that instant understanding, and ooey gooey minutes of just getting lost in one another’s eyes and all of that romantic…crap. Sure, Raven was still a girl, after all…and she had dreams and visions of getting married, but really hadn’t ever found anyone who she would want to be married to. Sure she had her celebrity crushes and fantasized about magical perfect weddings with them, but…never had she wanted to get married to a real person.
But…Even if he was a complete jerk, and a b*****d who rose in power too damn quickly…he was still. The blonde reached out, brushing her fingers over his cheek. “You’re my boyfriend. You…are the guy I love. I mean, you’re the first guy that I really just wanted to be with, after all…”
She was a flirt, yeah, and she was the first to admit that. But…even if she still wanted to flirt, she would cool her heels for Jett. They were in a relationship…they were a team, a pair and a couple, and she couldn’t keep throwing herself at every other person alive. “Yeah. I think you’re…I don’t know. The one for me. If that doesn’t sound too stupid.”
Because, it totally did.

Jett felt a fair bit of suspicion in Raven’s words and had to look into her eyes for a long moment as he tried to deduce if she was being honest or just playing him for a fool. In the end, he still wasn’t sure. She seemed to be honest, but he knew Raven was a charmer—and knew that she could spew a lie without so much as a trace of dishonesty.
There were some days when he felt that they were a bad match; they hadn’t really fought and though there were days where they didn’t see each other, he never felt himself pining for her. Raven was easily made jealous of any other girl he spoke to, and had sometimes come across as a bit too possessive, but she had her charm. He liked her wit, her banter, her ferocity. She was an asset—and a strong one, at that. She kept him on his toes and challenged him in the same way a rival might. Being around her was always a rush—exhilarating. It fueled his ego and his drive, and he always found that he wanted more. He wanted to push his luck, wanted to go beyond what was he could see in front of him.
Reaching up, Jett took her hand, lacing fingers with her. He had not allowed too much of a silence to pass between them this time, though had carefully considered her words. He wasn’t sure if anyone could be ‘the one’, but he wasn’t about to challenge Raven on that. He had his own way of looking at things and moved, rolling over so he could prop himself up on his elbows. In shifting positions, he left his fingers laced with Raven’s and with his other hand brushed a few strands of hair from her face.
Jett hovered over Raven, looking down at her as his thoughts settled on one thing. “…I think we could go far together,” he murmured, lingering there for only a second before he lowered himself and planted his lips on hers.
