Dance: Performing Arts

Those who had taken Week 1 of the Clan of Conquest's class might recognize the female seated on the chair in the room; in front of her was a Guzheng. Standing on her left was a horsewoman who was dressed like a servant ghoul holding a Pipa, and on her right stood a horsewoman who looked like she was of the same age as the servant ghoul, but was dressed in clothing that looked more colorful and decorative.

"Welcome. I am Zhang Liulian, but you may address me as Professor Zhang. Traditionally, dancing is an art form reserved for females, but in recent years, even males had taken up this art," She explained, giving you a small smile, "It requires flexibility, a quick reflex... It is not as easy as you think it might be. In fact, it requires years of practice to get dancing down. Here, let my disciple show you." She turned to the ghoul on her right and gave her a nod; immediately, the young ghoul brightened up, moving to the space in front. When Professor Zhang started to play the Guzheng, accompanied by her servant's Pipa, the young ghoul performed a dance so entrancing, it probably kept you captivated.

"Same say that dancing may even lift your spirits and heal your soul... Why don't you find that out for yourself, child?"

Lucien didn't know what he'd gotten himself into but he was more than willing to play along. He slowly, and rather carefully, walked over and began to look for something to accompany his dancing. It took him a bit to locate it, but he finally found the area with all of the props. He couldn't tell what was what or where what was so he just reached in and grabbed the first thing he could: streamers!

Oh, what a wondrous day! Lucien was definitely pleased with his choice!

Lucien was ready to go, costume done up and streamers in both hands. There was a big small on his face and then he started to dance. It was a very short dance, probably the shortest the usually graceful spirit took. It was all but a step and then a fall as Lucien's Jack damn feet decided they didn't agree with the whole dancing concept and decided to foil him. They had caught on to something, or even just gave out on their out... surely spite or something. Either way, Lucien knew it. Lucien hadn't passed that.

FAILED!

Lucien had been determined and because of the determination Lucien was once again digging around for his prop. It seemed that like his ability seemingly only attract animal friends, Lucien could only manage to get the streamers. Not that Lucien was complaining, he was still quite pleased with his choice. He showed this fondly as he happily spun them around with a large smile on his face. Oh, if only Israfel could watch him do this!

Lucien took things slowly this time, taking it one step at a time. His bare feet hit the floor toes first, and then fell to a flat foot. His hands held the streamers in each hand, the air flowing around them and him as he moved them. He realized that each movement of the streamers caused a small sensation of air around him and soon he realized that it almost felt like once again he was floating. He moved his arms around him gracefully and before he knew it each foot was moving gracefully around him for what was possibly the first time ever. His feet were touching the ground yet he hadn't tripped when he tried to do anything too fancy. He was dancing and it felt great.

Making a good impression with lower life forms aka etiquette

You find yourself standing in a precisely manicured field, pristine green grass stretching out in front of you for what seems like miles. A gaggle of large flightless birds stand in the shape of a horseshoe, a few of them already engaged by other Amityville students. A horseman of Conquest approaches you, her deep olive hair serving to help camouflage her in the surrounding foliage.

"Greetings. You may call me Rucha. Today you will be working with the adara." She sweeps an arm toward the birds, her long sleeves trailing through the grass at her feet. "On the whole, members of this species have a lot in common with humans as far as temperament and intelligence are concerned, so you should have no trouble getting them to tolerate you." She frowns and looks you up and down. "In theory." Rucha moves to one side, allowing you to step past her.

"Take this," She hands you a list of instructions. "Choose a bird, and make an effort to earn its trust."

Instruction One
First, you must bow to the adara to show it you mean no harm. Try to at least act sincere.

Roll 1d4.
1: Your bow is suitably impressive. The adara inclines its head and drops a feather. Perhaps it will be of some use later.

2: The bird screams in terror and pushes you to the ground before running away. You fail.

3: You don't make proper eye contact at first, but soon your adara is nuzzling up to you anyway. It seems you have a natural affinity for dealing with the beasts. A future as a DETH representative might be in the cards. You also obtain one feather.

4: You bow, but it's kind of a weak attempt. Still, your bird responds. It doesn't seem terribly enthusiastic about the whole situation though. You pass.

Instruction Two
Next you should offer the adara a refreshing drink of water or a salted cracker.

Roll 1d6.
1: The adara nibbles at your cracker, then turns away and starts to graze on the leaves near its feet. You pass, but not by much.

2: After you've fed your bird its snack, the adara puffs up and begins to gag. You've failed the challenge, but you do obtain a feather as a result of its misery!

3: Your adara drinks its water daintily, then allows you to pet it. You pass and you get a feather!

4: Sadly, after your bird eats your cracker, it quickly moves on to the next student, letting them pet it and collect one of its feathers. The two timer! You pass. Eventually your adara wanders back.

5: The adara in front of you ignores your cracker, but another animal wanders over to eat it instead, giving you one of its feathers in thanks! You pass.

6: You drop your water and crackers, watching in dismay as a passing bird tramples them. You fail.

Instruction Three
Ask the adara something about itself, listening attentively when it answers, even though you can't understand a word of its reply.

Roll 1d6.
1: You ask the bird to tell you where it was born and it responds with a happy trill and a long, drawn out bird story. After a while, you begin to get bored. The adara stops mid-chirp, gets up, and waddles away. You fail.

2: The adara looks on in confusion and dismay as you try to stutter out an interesting question. You fail.

3: Your bird is pleased by your question. It sits down and shares a tweety tale of intrigue that you manage to remain bright-eyed and alert for. You pass.

4: Your question frightens the adara and it leaves your vicinity with a shiver. Its shaking causes one of its feathers to fall nearby. You fail.

5: In an effort to seem like you care, you ask your adara a very personal question that it refuses to answer. You fail.

6: You've coincidentally hit on your adara's favorite topic of all time, and even if you can't understand what it's saying, it's still pretty entertaining. You listen as attentively as you can, and are awarded with a feather for your trouble. You pass.

Instruction Four
Lastly, tell the adara a secret. These animals love to think they're up on the latest gossip.

Roll 1d4.
1, 2: Your secret is a sad, boring one that nobody cares about. You fail.

3: The adara listens, rapt, as you tell it a little-known tale of intrigue and madness. When you're done, it drops a feather at your feet. You pass.

4: Everybody knows that secret! The adara shakes its head, accidentally dislodging a feather for you to keep. You fail.

Lucien had finally moved on from the performance arts, successfully completing that training well enough to even receive a smile from the horsewoman. He had really enjoyed the clothes he had worn, the ones worn daily by the clan members of this island. They were cute and flowed around in the air with every movement. In general they fell right into his natural style inclination. In all honest, Lucien was quite fond of the Four Clan's realm. There was something... interesting about it. What's best? Etiquette and these cute birds!

Lucien hadn't heard a thing the horsewoman had said other than choose a bird. He did that immediately, taking the list of tasks he had to do with little thought on the matter. He barely looked at it, his thoughts too focused on the task at hand: aw, look at the adorable birdies! Lucien just wanted to take them home.

"It's nice to meet you," he said with a smile, looking at the sheet and then giving the bird a bow. He hadn't made proper eye contact with it but before Lucien knew it the adara was nuzzling him quite affectionately! Lucien let out a squeal, followed by a soft sigh. It was a familiar feeling, although quite different. The difference didn't limit it though, the feelings soft in his chest.

PASS w/ feather!

Lucien took a moment to look at the next item on his list while the adara continued to nuzzle him. He had to offer the adara either water or a treat huh? He looked at the bird, and then around until he found some nearby water. He smiled at the bird, and then brought some of the water over. He held it out to the bird, a soft (very Lucien like smile) on his face as he did so.

The adara was just precious when it began to daintily drink the water, and then quite awe worthy when it allowed Lucien to pet it. All these steps seemed to be very familiar to the trust he built with another bird. That bird also nuzzled him constantly and also allowed him to pet him. There was a definitely fondness beyond what was standing in front of him when he looked at the adara as he pet it. It was no Israfel but Lucien did still love animals greatly and this was rewarding!

The adara was just looking at Lucien when his eyes shifted toward his list of tasks once again. It took him a moment to find the third one, his eyes going immediately back to the two he'd already done. He had to ask the adara something about itself. Anything? The list didn't seemed to specify and it left Lucien sort of stunned. He had to ask the perfect thing but there were so many ideas in his head! He could ask the bird about where it came from, or how old it was, what its favourite colour was, what its favourite cloud was, if it knew a bird name Israfel, what its favourite food was, about its family, about the island or even islands...

Lucien never finalized his question and the bird just looked at him with confusion and dismay as Lucien only seemed to be able to get out small words that formed absolutely no complete sentence as he tried to ask it a question.

FAIL w/ no feather!

Lucien really liked the adara quite a bit so he was more than willing to go back and try again. This time he was prepared! If the list of duties he had to complete weren't any different then he knew exactly what he'd have to do. He wouldn't trip up like he did before! Surely now that he had time to prepare he wouldn't end up stuttering over a question for the adara. Either way, Lucien picked out an adara, attempting the bow. It was kind of weak, but the adara still responded.

Lucien frowned just a bit, sure it responded but this one didn't nuzzle him.

Lucien tried to give the adara a cracker this time and it seemed to be successful, a smile forming over Lucien's face as the adara ate his cracker but then it dropped. The adara! He watched it sadly as it rather quickly moved onto another student, letting them pet it and even collect one of its feathers. This bird had no sense of loyalty! It wasn't like Israfel, Israfel wouldn't do that to him! Israfel would never leave him, never ever!

Eventually the adara came back to Lucien, but he didn't offer it another cracker. It would have to earn another one!

"You're not Israfel," he said firmly. He'd give a cracker to Israfel instead.
