The Open Canopy

General setting: The open canopy is a series of simple wooden structures that may see at first, rather precarious, especially while climbing upwards. The structures themselves are actually rather sound and ironically, rather comfortable looking, similar in style to the dorm rooms, only much larger. Foliage and trees cover up a good portion of the view, but from the ground up, like all the other structures in the clan, the drop down would be rather far.

OOC: EVENT ROLLS AND PROMPT MECHANICS:

- When your student has arrived in this setting, you can CHOOSE to roll a 100-sided dice at any point in time. You can only do this twice per RP you make. Match your dice roll to the results below for a prompt/ small reaction that your student may discover. RP out results accordingly.

1-20: The area itself seems rather abandoned, though as you look a little past the area, you can see a few Clan members flying away, seemingly towards the portal exit. It looks like they're in a hurry, and heavily armed.
21 - 40: Black feathers are scattered all over the room. It looks like two clan members got into a fight here, judging from the heavy scratches on the ground, though what exactly happened? (see below for horsemen point prompt)
- Horsemen point prompt! You also see something glint next to you, but is it just a trick of the light? Roll a 6-sided dice. If odd you obtain one horsemen point! You can only redeem a max of two from all prompt prps/orps your student is in per OOC 24 hours. You can redeem these here and here!
41 - 60: You hear a strange shrieking noise, as you look out, you notice a series of bird-like minipets perched next to this place. They are staring at you keenly for some reason.... maybe they want food?
61 - 80: You notice a single painting in the room, featuring a rather bloody, but illustrative, depiction of several Clan members of war cutting off the heads of what look like humans.
81- 100: The small fireplace inset in stone seems to contain bits and pieces of burnt, charred notes. Only the edges remain, revealing - maybe some sort of map?

So perhaps the training had not gone as well as he would have liked. Perhaps he was beaten, badly, in his first spar.

Perhaps his first spar had been against a ghoul that had come out leading him on as if she was not sure about fighting him and then proceeded to show just exactly what a warrior was made of in terms of the War Clan. It had just about been humiliating.

So he was ready for a bit of actual exploration now. And at least he was fairly certain that Alexander had been the only one that he knew that had seen how shameful his fight really was. But he also knew what was coming up, and he dreaded it. Dreaded learning how to use a phone. He had just learned how to use groanspring! One step at a time.

On the other hand, to be able to stay in touch with Alexander the next week...well, he would have to learn it. For now though he was just admiring the area, wishing that he could revert to his natural form and just...clamber up and down the trees to his heart's content. And he also wish that he knew if hunting would be acceptable here. The pair found themselves in a rather comfortable looking room, with a large bed, and Yin rather hoped that they were not intruding. Though from the looks of the feathers scattered all over the bed there had been some sort of physical struggle. Plus there were the tell tale scratches in the floor and partially shredded sheets. A fight perhaps?

Something glinted next to him but it appeared to be nothing so Yin ignored it. He wanted to break the silence though. And he really did not want to talk about the stadium. Not yet. Maybe if he carefully steered around that..."Alexander I am pleased that you are here with me this week," he said, giving the zomboil a smile as he tried to ignore the crick in his neck. Seriously, staring up at him all the time was beginning to hurt even the weremantis' flexible neck.

After the events at the stadium, Yin and Alex had agreed that maybe it was time to do some heavy duty exploration to try and learn as much about the horsemen war clan as possible. Their adventures through the jungle, which was incredibly hard for Alex to navigate through with all of it's pesky undergrowth constantly catching on his feet and throwing him off balance, eventually found them staring up at some canopied wooden structures. Alex had looked down at Yin with eyebrows raised in question. Should they go up?

It appeared that they would, and while Alex struggled along slowly behind the weremantis, eventually they reached the top and found themselves in fairly open room. His backpack was beginning to slip down his shoulders and he shrugged it back up, still somewhat annoyed that he hadn't gotten rid of it someplace yet. His eyes scanned the room, noting the very large and comfortable looking bed. These were, all and all, fairly decent accommodations, and Alex wondered if perhaps the dorms that they would be staying in would be very much like this.

Yin appeared to be having a look around, and Alex moved to join him, when a sudden, piercing shriek rang in his ear. Wincing, his head automatically turned to the source of the sound, and he shuffled over towards one of the open 'windows' to see what might have created such a noise. Looking out, he was greeted with a dozen set of eyes staring back at him in a most unsettling manner. They appeared to be some kind of bird like minipet, and the way they were looking at Alex was almost as though they expected something from him. He was a little freaked out by their staring, however, and hunching his shoulders a bit, backed away from the window, turning only to find that Yin had approached him and he'd nearly ran right in to the other boil.

"Sorry.." He mumbled, giving the other boil a half cocked smile. Since they were alone he didn't think Yin would mind too much if he reached forward and slipped his hand into the much warmer one of the weremantis's, as he stared down at the other boil fondly.

"I'm happy to be here with you as well." But then the thought of how during the next week of classes they would be apart set in, and Alex frowned slightly. "Though I have to say, I'm still pretty unhappy that I won't get to see you next week at all....So, do you want to learn how to use my phone, or not? I'd really like to stay in contact with you, Yin." He thought about using the boils full name in an attempt to win him over, but then changed his mind. The other boil needed to think about it and decide for himself if he though that the pain of learning a new technology was worth it.

Yin's shoulders slumped, and he looked slightly defeated, quite a difference from the happiness he had been feeling just a moment before. He knew that really, if it was put that way, it would be best if he just did it and got it over with. He really did that quite a lot for the zomboil. But normally that did not require learning more, and new, technology. "I do desire to stay in contact with you Alexander, and if there is no other way I shall...I shall learn to utilize your phone."

A glance out the window revealed horsemen flying past, apparently in a hurry to get somewhere. But for now he was here, with Alexander, and he was going to put aside his curiosity and desire to learn as much about them as possible so he would not have to feel so weak to learn about eyephones. It really was not fair. He glanced around the room, wondering if they should go sit on the bed but not wanting to disturb the possible crime scene. "But just enough for next week," he added nervously, as if somehow there would be less learning to do if it would only be used for a short amount of time.

Alex's face lit up, even as Yin slumped in defeat. He squeezed the other boils hand gently then lifted his other hand to brush against Yin's cheek and then cup his chin to tilt his head back slightly so that he could look him in the eye and say, very quietly "Thank you."

He then moved the hand away from Yin's chin, resting it instead on the boils shoulder. He didn't think Yin would even know how much he appreciated that he would be willing to learn how to use his phone just so that they could keep in contact. It was touching, really, that the other boil would do something that he was so obviously uncomfortable with, just for Alex. Though it was a little disconcerting to realize that this type of situation happened more often then not, and it made the zomboil feel slightly uneasy. He wasn't always pushing Yin to do things he didn't enjoy, was he? He certainly hoped not, and he also hoped that Yin would tell him so if he was..

Another screeching sound caught his attention, and he couldn't help but glance behind him, back towards those birds and their horrible staring eyes.

"Creepy..." He muttered, before moving further away from the window, pulling Yin along.

"I think somebody mentioned that our phones won't work properly outside of the dorms. Maybe later tonight I can get started showing you? It's really easy Yin, I promise! I'll only show you how to send me messages and that's it. Also, I have some new photo's I took before we left that I think you might like.." He gave the boil a quick wink. "Quite a few pictures, actually. I'll show you how to find them and look at them whenever you want as well."

Alone as they were Yin did not mind the touching very much and he simply returned Alexander's look with a quiet "you are welcome." But a creature outside of the window shattered the calm and Alexander began to pull him toward the door.

And that was when realization set in. If they were leaving they might head back to the dorms.

Heading back to the dorms meant working with the phone.

Alexander was reassuring him that it was easy, but he was also talking about pictures on the phone. And winking.

Dread began to set in. He had no idea of what pictures the zomboil had but they could be anything really. Anything. And he was afraid of what they might be. Afraid that maybe somehow Alexander had taken pictures of him without him knowing it, mind racing to think of when he might have done so. What he might have on that phone.

Almost in desperation he wrenched his hand away from Alexander's. "Um...wait! I uh...I think there might be something over there. I had better go investigate."

He darted away to find whatever it was, picking it up and sliding it into his waistband without much thought. Delay. Stall. Whatever he had to do. Just...avoid the eyephone for a bit longer.

Alex hadn't had any intentions on actually leaving yet. He had just wanted to get away from the creepy birds that were continuing to stare at him from the open window. So, when Yin wrenched his hand away, the motion actually hurt Alex a little bit. Not physically, though the weremantis had managed to scrape him with his freakishly long claws in the process, but more of an emotional hurt. He hadn't thought Yin would really mind holding hands, up here where nobody was watching, but apparently that wasn't the case.

Trying not to dwell on it too much, he let Yin wander off and investigate...whatever it was he was investigating, and wandered off to have a look around himself. There was a fireplace inset one of the walls, and while it was probably one of the last things in Halloween Alex would have normally gotten anywhere near, it looked like it was cold and dead.

Though just the ashes that remained were enough to make him shudder.

Still, there looked like there was the remains of something still resting in that ash. Blackened papers, that looked like they may have at one time been illustrated with something..it almost looked like...a map? It was so hard to tell.

Shaking his head, he straightened back up, and turned back towards the weremantis.

"What did you find?" He asked, mildly curious.

Yin shrugged lightly. "Just an unusual pebble, nothing too important. Did you find anything over there?" He was about to go over there when once again the bed caught his attention. The bed with all the feathers and it just really seemed like something had happened there. It was like no fighting avenue that he had ever seen. But there seemed to be another glint on the floor by some of the scratches so he went to investigate.

And found another pebble. He picked this one up as well and carried it over to show to Alexander. "Just like this one. Perhaps someone lost them during the fight?"

Because obviously the disheveled bed + feathers meant a fight. Surely they did. Especially with those shredded sheets. "Maybe you should look for one? I do not think they are important enough for anyone to mind if they are taken."

Alex glanced at whatever it was Yin picked up with a frown. They were certainly interesting looking, but he couldn't see why they would be important.

It seemed that the room was littered with them, however, as his own gaze finally fell on the bed, and the feathery mess strewn around it, as well as the gouges in the floor. There was a glint as the light reflected off of another pebble-thing and Alex made his way towards it, while still pondering the state of the room.

Either there had been a fight in here or things had gotten a little out of hand in the bedroom department. He might have even made a joke about it if he thought that the mantodae might understand.

He reached the area where he'd seen the glimmer of light and stooped down to pick up the pebble from the floor and deposit it into his own pocket.

"I think...we're about finished in here, wouldn't you say?" He didn't really think there was all that much left to look at.

"And I would really, really like to get rid of my backpack, Yin. Don't you think we should at least go and find the dorms? And something to eat. I'm starving!" He had some jerky in his backpack, but that was more for emergencies then anything.

"Do you think they'd mind if we did some hunting?" He idly wondered what those creepy birds sitting outside of the window might taste like.

Out of hand in the mating process? That was why weremantises existed! But Alexander was correct, it did not meant that Yin had caught on in the least. Though the bed did worry him quite a bit really. It brought up something that he needed to discuss with Alexander. Before they were with the others.

And Alexander wanted to go back now. Back to the dorms and the torture that he wanted to put him through before bed, claiming it was for his own good. But if he was hungry...feed the zomboil. That was one of the first rules. Keep Alexander fed. "If we see a clansmen we shall have to ask," he answered as he moved toward him.

This was important, and he needed to know that he had his attention so he reached out to take his hand, looking up at him intently. "I require your attention Alexander. But just for a moment." That bed...it was as if it was speaking to him. "I...I would like to request that you make me a promise. We do not know what the horsemen may say or do, or if we will be allowed to remain together over these next few days." He hoped they would, but who really knew? "Please promise me that if we are separated that you will remain safe." Yes, because that fight and/or crime scene was really bothering him that much. What if Alexander could be attacked where he rested for the night?

He knew it was an almost worthless promise. Knew that promising to be safe did not mean that Alexander would have a choice in the matter. But perhaps if there was a time where something could go two different ways he would make a choice that would keep him safe rather than take an unnecessary risk. Not that Yin really intended to play by the same rules.

Alexander was pretty much just ready to leave, and was already turned and heading towards the opening and the ladder leading back down to the ground. Yes, they would have to ask somebody about hunting. Alexander didn't necessarily have to eat, but that didn't mean he didn't crave food, and it didn't make him feel any less hungry even knowing that.

So when Yin stopped him by taking a hold of his hand, he froze, turning to gaze down at the other boil with a questioning look in his eyes. Just moments before Yin was only too eager to pull his hand free of Alex's, and now he was taking it in his own again. This boil really needed to just make up his mind! But he had certainly grabbed Alex's attention, which was what he had intended, as the zomboil listened to what the weremantis had to say.

When Yin was finished, Alex looked down at him sadly. "How can I promise that, Yin? I can promise that I'll try...but I don't know what's going to happen. I can promise that I'll not take any needless and unnecessary risks. I can't...I mean...what would you say if I asked the same thing from you?" His expression almost looked pained now. Of course he wanted to be able to make that promise, to tell Yin that he would remain safe, and that no harm would come to him. But how was he to know what might happen in the future? What unstoppable and unforeseen events might occur?
