After exiting the orientation it was time to go do some War exploration. Or, more correctly, it was time to go start training. Which included a bit of looking around first but once Yin knew what the sign for a training field looked like it meant that he was doing absolutely everything to get the zomboil to stop right then and let him go try it out.
And when he really tried? Yin could more often than not get the zomboil to agree with him. Besides, it was still exploration just getting there. And he had grudgingly agreed to try to learn how to use the eyephone later if they could go do some training now, though by then they had passed one such sign and they had to wait for the next to come into view to branch off and see what the Clan had in store for them.

Quote: The Stadium:There is a small stadium for young War Horsemen set up away from the larger training fields, several circles set out for pairs to spar against each other in. A rather rugged looking female stands, dark skinned, light haired, covered in scars and warpaint, her hair unevenly cut in the back to a short length and ridiculously long and braided in the front, wrapped around itself, several feathers tucked into both it and the dark stained fabric, bones from several different types of creatures weaved into jewelry she wears, her wings colored like a golden eagle. On one arm, she has several slashes of paint – what looks like hundreds, trailing down it. After staring too long she finally speaks up:
“There is one for each battle I have won.” She said simply, shifting the pole she held to her other hand before turning to show her other arm, which is spotted with paint of a different color – and much more numerous. “I have one for each battle I have lost as well. To become a true warrior, you must climb your way to the top from the very bottom, and the best place to start is practicing against those who may just be better than you.” She explained, before motioning to one of the circles and an individual that was practicing on their own.
“Go join them.” She says, “If you think you’re ready. If you win, you will be paired up with the winner of another spar. So on, and so forth. After five victories, a break will be allowed for the day.” She says, the only explanation she gives as she hands off a small staff.Mechanics There are 5 roundsRoll 2d8 each post First post is how hard you hit Second post is how hard the opponent hit You want to roll higher than your NPC opponent. If you roll a tie roll a tiebreaker between them (same as the above) Please fill in each of your posts with a small summary of how your spar went! It could be more than one hit, despite having only rolled one! Have fun with it! Horsemen Points Distribution [ Horsemen Points Distribution: ] (Select only one option based on your results) You win one point if you get to rounds 1 or 2! You win two points if you get to round 3, 4 or 5! You win all three points if you get to round 6 or higher! Alex was by now, used to following the weremantis around, and was in no mood to argue or protest whatever the other boil wanted to do for the rest of the day. He had wanted to get rid of his backpack, but if Yin would rather explore first, then he could probably manage to continue to keep a hold of it for now. And really, why would he want to argue with the other boil when he was in such a good mood. It lifted Alex's cold unbeating heart to see the weremantis so enthusiastic about something, though he did try to dig his heels in a little over the whole training business. They had just gotten here, did they really need to do strenuous physical activity so soon? Eventually, he did agree, however, not able to say no to those pleading green eyes, and as they came to their second sign indicating a training field, they veered off towards it. So it was to be sparring then, was it? Sounded like something right up Yin's alley, at least, and since Alex still wasn't sure if Yin had just been taking it easy on him during their last sparring session, it would be interesting to see how each boil fared in their own rounds of 'battle' against the horsemen. "Want to give it a try?" He asked Yin, turning towards him, though he pretty much knew the answer already, and wouldn't be surprised if the other boil was already on his way to one of the circles, ready to begin.

The zomboil would not be surprised, Yin was already headed out to an empty circle, eager to test himself.
He was not quite as eager when his opponent approached. It was a ghoul and she did not look as if she necessarily wanted to be there. Which was probably true, but probably not for the reasons that Yin thought. Still, it meant that he was hesitant. And that moment of indecision cost him. Before he knew it she had attacked. He attempted to dodge but he was simply too slow as she began to rain blows upon him.
There was really no where to escape to, he knew better than to step outside the ring. He managed to land a few blows but it was like he was fighting a storm, and it was not long before the fight was halted and she declared the winner. She looked down at him and said nothing, merely moving off. He was wounded, but more so in his pride than anything else. He could only hope that Alexander fared better.
Made it to round 1! 1 point.

The thought of Alexander faring any better then Yin was laughable.
It seemed brute strength wasn't going to help him this time. As he watched Yin take off of towards one of the empty circles with a half smile on his face, he turned around to find an empty circle of his own, and shuffled towards it. He hesitated at the edge, not sure if what he needed right now was yet another spar (since none of them ever seemed to end well). But this is what they were here for, right? To learn and immerse themselves in the horsemen tribes cultures.
What better way to do that then to get your a** kicked by a ghoul in your first couple of hours being on the island?
Because that's pretty much what happened to Alex, the moment he slid his feet over the edge of that circle, marking himself as an opponent, and one that could apparently be easily disposed.
That wasn't to say he hadn't given it his best effort. The war ghoul hadn't hesitated, however, had just marched into the circle and without any pleasantries began throwing punches and kicks at Alex much faster then he could ever hope to block or dodge around them. At one point, he had managed to grab a hold of her leg, and tried to flip her backwards, but she had simply made some ridiculously impossible looking move that ended with her free leg flying up into the air and her foot connecting with his face.
He supposed her wings had likely helped with that a little bit.
The blow to his face had been hard enough to make him stumble back and fall with a heavy thud to the ground, and partially outside of the circle itself. Rubbing at his jaw, he staggered to his feet, and offered the horsemen ghoul a congratulatory handshake, but she simply, with a small shake of her head, turned and stalked away.
Interesting.
Giving a small shake of the head of his own, he turned to find Yin, only to see that the other boil had been defeated. He made his way towards the other boil, His jaw still ached a little, but it seemed to be mending itself even as he made his way over to the weremantis.
"They're definitely fierce fighters." He offered, trying to explain away why they both had gotten defeated so easily "We should try again another time, maybe, once we know more about them..."
Round 1 = 1 pt.

The Toxic CaveSometimes you just end up in places not really… good for scaring. Or just not good for one’s health. Which oddly enough, can be a toxic cave filled with noxious gas. Sent down an elevator, students wait at the bottom as they are sealed in. Even those who can fly find they must go down…to get back up. Several outposts exist in the cavern to make sure that no one ends up dead, horsemen having taken a certain mixture that allows them temporary immunity. A clank and a light purple gas starts to fill the room. The test has begun, so students better start to run!Quote: Rules: -Running out of HP means game over, regardless of any saves you might have -If your student falls into two or more of the automatic HP reductions, please only apply one! You may ignore the others. -If you use a save start at the place you left off Stage 1 RNG 1-3 in your FIRST post. Subtract one to see how many lives you have. (IE get a 2, subtract 1 you have 1 save) Stage 2 Running, the hall ends in a pit. You need to descend into the thick of the poison haze to go further. But- it’s hard to see where it might be safe. Thick ropes hang from the ceiling and rocks just from the sides. Roll 1 d4 to advance! 1- You grab the rope and slide your way down but ouch! Rope burn! -5 HP 2- You try to go down the walls… and make it! Better move though the gas is thick down here! 3- You jump down… not the best idea. -10 HP 4- You try the walls but miss a step falling and knocking you out (Fail) If your a student that can fly/has wings in any form, you take an automatic -5 HP Stage 3 Running down yet another hall, you have to dive into a pool of dark water and swim through a tunnel. Roll 1 d6 to see what happens. 1- You manage to swim quickly and reach the other side just in time! 2- Fish bones dig into you, slowing you down and making you swallow some water! -10 HP 3- Weird. It feels like- Uh oh. You somehow managed to end up at a dead end. No time- you fall back and let the gas overtake you(Fail) 4- Something brushes past your body but lucky enough, you make it to the other side. 5- You try swimming up too soon and bump your head! -5 HP 6- Something bit you, but you can’t tell what, -5 HP If your student is aquatic, or fire based -5 HP automatically Stage 4 The path seems to be getting smaller, looks like you’ll have to crawl you way out but- which path do you take? Roll 1 d8. 1 and 3- You run into a spider who bites you for a nasty sting! -10 HP 2 and 4- You end up taking a wrong turn and hit your head! -10 HP 5 and 7- You managed it somehow to crawl you way to the next room, which has yet to be filled with that gas or… 6 and 8- You get lost and get…sleepy… (fail!) If your natural form is bigger than that of a dog, take -5 HP Stage 5 The last part of the tunnel! You can see light at the end but- It seems that in order to get there, you’ll have to beat the doors that are closing, trying to trap you in the poison caverns! Just as you make it to the end- the door slams down, leaving you stuck. You’ll have to break your way through! Roll to attack! For each miss -10 HP, you may keep going until you break free or pass out. For year 3, you must subtract versus the normal 6! It seems the horsemen expect a bit more from you. Another training exercise, and this one involving toxic gas? Alexander was pretty confident that he could do better at this then he did during the spar (not breathing did seem to have it's advantages). He was more worried about Yin then himself, really, and as they were steadily lowered deeper and deeper into the caves he may have moved quite a bit closer towards the other boil.
"If anything happens, I'll make sure you make it out all right." He smiled down at the other boil, "Just like you would do the same for me."
They had reached the bottom, and a clanking sound made Alex look up, just as a purple mist of gas began to slowly fill the room.
"I think we'd better get moving..." But could Alex run again now as he had done in the thunder road class? There was only one way to find out!
((Alex has 2 lives for this course!))

"I believe that there are horsemen to assist us," Yin pointed out, though he did look rather happy at the consideration. "I would prefer that you would not worry about me and would do your best. We shall show these Horsemen what we are truly capable of." Which, admittedly, so far was not much. But he was not going to say that right now. Even if it was painfully obvious. Really though, at this point all he wanted was to not think about the elevator, which at least was not lifting into the air.
Purple gas began filling the room. "Good luck," he said as he started out of the elevator. Yin did not typically offer luck. Skill was what was important. But since dealing with the Horsemen he was beginning to wonder if perhaps luck was more important than skill. And it did not hurt to cover that base as well.

Running? Hardly. Alex at best shambled along at a quick shuffle. It didn't really matter much to him, though, since again, as long as he didn't talk, he didn't need to breathe, and the gas would not bother him.
Well, at least, that's what he kept telling himself.
He was going faster then usual though, and that was a start! The cavern led straight on, and they had little choice but to follow it. Unfortunately, that came to a bitter end when a pit suddenly loomed up in front of him. There were ropes dangling but well....
Alex glanced down, trying to make things out through the thick purple gas and try and figure out what to do. It looked like their might be some rocky outcroppings along the walls edge, and he really needed to make a split second decision right now. With little thought and a lot of action, he dropped to his stomach, swung his legs around, and began climbing down the wall.
This seemed like it had actually been a good idea, albeit a slow one, as he made it to the bottom unscathed. But the gas was quite thick down here, threatening to blind him completely. He pushed onward.

Sometimes being fast had its advantages. Sometimes it did not. There were ropes to be used and Yin grabbed on to one, making sure it was not one that would end with him sliding straight into Alexander. He slid down the rope, not realizing until after he did so that his hands had been burned by the rope, and now stung painfully. Just like his eyes and throat. He was careful to try to breathe through his nose and a bit belatedly he brought his goggles up, trying to protect his eyes somewhat.

More...quick shambling, down a long and narrow cavern. His eyes were starting to sting a little from the gas, and he was suddenly envious of Yin's goggles.
Though, Yin might be a little envious of Alex's non-breathing capabilities at this point...
This cavern ended in a dark lake. Alex stopped. He couldn't swim! How was he supposed to...
With an inward sigh, he stepped into the lake, and walked along the bottom. On the plus side? No gas down here! On the negative side? It was pretty much pitch black and he couldn't see a jack damned thing.
Slowly the ground of rock beneath his feet began to make an incline, up and up and up until finally his head emerged. He wasn't thinking about what might be directly above his head, or the fact that he was quite tall and should possibly worry about these things. He hit his head, hard, and stumbled back in the water. With a frown and a glare upwards, he decided to crawl the rest of the way out.

Yin was certainly not the most proficient of swimmers. But at least he had goggles, not that it looked like they would help much in that dark lake. He watched as Alexander just walked straight into it, waiting for a moment as he knew he would not be able to see him in the water and might swim into him.
He took a deep breath and dove in, not realizing until he was in the water how much that would affect him. His lung burned as he swam, frantic the farther he went, trying to get out of the tunnel he was in. He tried to get to the surface and hit his head. He forced himself to keep trying, just a stroke more, and broke the surface, gasping for air that only burned his lungs as he took it in. But at least he had made it through.

He continued on the corridor in front of him, but it just got increasingly smaller and smaller as he went. First he had to slouch, then hunch, then crawl his way along. There were multiple paths, and he had no idea which way to go. Picking one at random, he crawled along for a time before he realized two things. The first was that he was ridiculously lost. The second?
He couldn't hear Yin behind him.
Time to go back!

The problem was, he wasn't really sure how to get back now. He couldn't really turn around in such a small space, so he was forced to crawl backwards instead.
Eventually he found himself back where the small tunnels branched off. He had no idea where Yin went and that filled him with a sense of worry and dread. He told the other boil he would be there to help if anything went wrong! Sure the horsemen would be as well but...but what if they weren't? What if he got trapped down here forever?
Panic was beginning to set in, as much as he tried to force it back and bury it. He picked another tunnel at random, hoping to find Yin.
What he found instead was a large and nasty spider, which landed on his hand and gave him a stinging bite before he could slap it away.
That had stung! It was hard not to start swearing out loud, but doing so would mean inhaling this ridiculous gas to get the air required to shout. He pressed onward, ignoring the pain in his hand as he tried to just find a way out.

He had to keep going, to push forward and just crawl his way out. But his lungs were burning and he could not figure out which way to go. And he was beginning to feel tired. Maybe he should just take a break. To rest up and just...sleep. Sleep would be good. Just a short rest and then he could continue later...

It seemed on his second attempt, he had managed to choose the right tunnel, even though he had gotten a wonderful, aching and throbbing spider bite in the process. As he made it to the end of the small tunnels, he was able to push himself to his feet again. But still....no Yin in sight. He tried not to let that thought freak him out too much, though. Surely the horsemen would have rescued him if there had been a problem, or maybe the other boil had already made it out?
In the distance, at the end of the tunnel, he could see a faint light. He thought that it must be the end, so he stumbled onward, trying to keep up a steady pace. Slowly he began gaining momentum, however, his pace becoming more steady with less jerky movements. It started out as a light jog, then a full jog, and then, as the end came in full sight, he started to run, his feet slapping and scraping against the floor of rock beneath him. He was almost out, he was almost free of this giant torture chamber!
But then the door to the outside began to shut, and he knew he wasn't going to make it, though he continued to run in some vain hope.
Also he didn't quite know how to stop short of falling down and probably hurting himself quite badly in the process.
As he reached the door, it had closed completely, but he had gained too much momentum now, and to try and stop now would probably mean taking a painful nose dive into the ground. So, bracing himself, his body slammed into the door.
And he broke through it!
The impact slowed him down, of course, and as he came bursting through the broken door, he stumbled and fell to the ground, rolling over several times before coming to a stop on the ground. There were horsemen standing about, looking at him in stunned amazement.
Apparently he had beaten their training course? Whatever, there was only one thing on his mind at the moment!
"Yin?" he croaked out, his voice sounding rough and harsh. The horsemen looked at each other, and a couple of them shrugged. One, however, seemed to catch on that he was saying a name, and not just some mindless gibberish. She pointed to the ground some ways away from where Alex was currently laying in a splinter strewn heap. He rolled on to his hands and knees, looking towards where she pointed and saw, with a great amount of relief, that Yin was there.
He crawled towards him, stopping to sit on his knee's at his side. The other boil seemed to be having some trouble breathing, which was understandable, considering what they had just came through.
"Hey.." He said quietly, giving the other boil a small and reassuring smile. "I'd thought I'd lost you for a second. Glad to see you made it out as well." He had no idea that Yin had actually passed out and been carried out by the horsemen.
