Weapon Crafting

While the Horsemen of War can summon their Clan weapon to them at any point, many take pride in mastering a variety of mundane weaponry as well, both combat and manufacture - no sense in limiting oneself to only one mode of battle, after all! Even 'decorative' weapons bear a brutal edge.

The Crafters' Den is a sheltered platform halfway up a massive pine, with all the materials one might want, other than metal. The head Crafter, a sharp-eyed older Horsewoman, carefully watches all students under her care to ensure a.) nothing goes missing and b.) nobody gets stupid. "You can have enough to make one knife," she grumbles. "And don't waste it, either!"

Can you impress her with your craftsmanship? ... Probably not. But it's worth a try.

Phase One: Weapon Creation

Create a weapon of War and test its mettle. If your craftsmanship is good, you may be victorious and gain the head Crafter's favor. For a minute or two, anyway.

In your first post, roll 3d4 to determine what your knife is made of, how well it is made, and how it is decorated.

First Dice: Material
- 1: Wood (+1 point)
- 2: Seashell (+2 points)
- 3: Bone (+3 points)
- 4: Stone (think flint or obsidian; +4 points)

Second Dice: Craftsmanship
- 1: You're in a bit of a hurry, so... (Shoddy: +1 point)
- 2: You throw something together. It looks kinda close? (Mediocre: +2 points)
- 3: You spend a bit of time on it, and come up with something okay. (Acceptable: +3 points)
- 4: You throw yourself into your work with passion, paying close attention to detail! (Awesome: +4 points)

Third Dice: Artistry
- 1: It's a knife. Does it really matter if it's pretty or not? (Ugly: +1 point)
- 2: You wrap the hilt in leather. Good enough. (Decent: +2 points)
- 3: You wrap the hilt in leather and add a feather. Pretty! (Shiny: +3 points)
- 4: You wrap the hilt in leather and add stylish strands of beads and feathering. That is one cool knife. (Stylish: +4 points)

Roleplay out your knife's creation! At the end of your post, put the specifics of your knife's creation (i.e. Shoddy Stylish Wood Knife) along with the total score (the total of your dice roll).

Phase Two: Weapon Testing

In the Clan of War, there is no such thing as a decorative blade! Even weapons destined to hang on the walls of huts are finished to battle-ready quality. You must test your knife and prove its worth, attacking the simple leathery mannequin kept in the Den for that purpose.

Take your knife's point score from the creation post. This is your knife's HP. You must now do battle until your knife breaks! The number damage your knife does AND the number of posts your knife survives determines the number of points you get.

To Do Battle:
Roll 2d4 in each post. The first dice indicates the number of damage your knife does to the test target. The second dice indicates the amount of damage your knife takes from the attack.

Battle ends when your knife shatters. Aw. (And yes, this means you can't take it with you. Sorry!)

Point Distribution

Entering

Calder was on the search for some place that seemed more sturdy. Maybe against a thick tree trunk where the floors seemed more reinforced. This is where he spotted the massive pine with a overhang that covered the platform. It looked safe enough - well, for a place built hundreds of feet above ground. He didn't even want to think about how this was being held up together, and hoped that whoever was crafting this place used a lot of nails.

Still cutting off the circulation in Muka's arm, Calder walked slowly (and whimpered every time a board creaked) with the boil before pointing. "That looks...um...interesting." And less rickety. "Wanna go check that out?" He asked.

((Entering))

As Shun carefully wandered around, he managed to stumble upon the Crafter's Den. Peeking inside, he noticed a few people working on making various weapons. Piquing his interest, he stepped on inside, noting all the materials around. His knowledge of weaponsmithing was a bit limited, seeing how he could just summon his own daggers. He did take care of them though, making sure they remained sharp and whatnot. Even so, it wasn't quite the same.

Before long, he heard the voice of the Kelpie nearby, and it sounded like he was with someone. The Reaper glanced over his right shoulder, giving a sort of acknowledging look, before taking in his surroundings a little more.

[ Entering with Calder ]

Muka was trying to keep Calder calm while they traveled and 'explored'. It was a loose term since the kelpie was not much in the mood for exploring but ahead of them was a spacious looking pavilion. He saw a figure inside moving around and of course, the owl was curious.

"Looks promising. Sturdy, hmm?" Muka thought perhaps they could sit. Sitting would probably do the kelpie good.

The strix was being good about supporting the wimpering boil and cradled him under one wing as they walked but upon entering the pavilion he did settle his wing back against him.

"Hello!" Muka cheerfully greeted the reaper whom he did not know.

[[Herryk is stomping around all up in here]]

Herryk had slowly ambled after Calder and Ulmuka. He remembered the strix boil from the little knitting party they'd had - or sewing, whatever it was. How ironic, then, that they were about to partake in another little craft circle.

"Calder, honestly." Herryk started chiding the kelpie again. "Herryk is very certain that Calder can walk on his own. It is not so high up, really." The draugr shook his head.

When Shun entered, Herryk's expression brightened. Mitsu's boil!

"Well.. what happens next, hmm?"

"Hello," Shun said quietly in return to the avian boy.He didn't really know who he was, though he was trying to remember if he had seen him before. Perhaps he just saw him in passing once or twice. His gaze soon shifted over towards Herryk as he spotted the Draugr entering as well. Gingerly, he rubbed the side of the bandages over his eye once more. After this he may need to stop by the dormitory to change them out. These were getting a bit irritated now.

"It looks to me that we are to have a hand at crafting a blade," he replied while making his way to the tables. There were a number of different materials here. Notably, he saw no metal. Then again, forging a steel blade would take a bit more time.

Not to mention that it would involve fire, which the undead were probably going to avoid.

Calder smiled as he saw Shun, but that smile soon turned to concern as he regarded his eye. It was a blade that had done it, a weapon, and it seemed they had arrived in an area that specialized in just that. Considering he only saw reapers and Hunters having weapons, he felt rather out of place, however he felt that evening the playing field was a start. They were rather pretty t look at, and being armed with a weapon might make future injuries, like Shun's, be fewer and farther between.

His eyes shot daggers at Herryk. "You were a lot nicer in the Haunted House." He huffed. "You can't tell me it isn't high up. What's even HIGH to you then? I think we're even above any mountains up here!" Then again, being on the second floor was only something he adjusted to when visiting Barth. "I've fallen out of a second story window before. That's high. This...." He waved with his free hand. "...this is crazy." And he didn't have Christof to soften his fall if he did go off the edge. Then again, it wouldn't have mattered here.

His eyes went to the weapons, and he looked back at Muka. "Wanna make a weapon?" He asked, still not releasing the boil's arm.

While Calder and Herryk had been exchanging comments, Muka had been staring at what was spread out in front of them. The reaper seemed to have already made motions to begin and the strix did what he did best, watched.

The elder horsewoman looked on them roughly but he was studying the materials and her with his senses. Weapons were not usually something the strix thought about but he was learning that being stuck in a humanoid form had it's own inconveniences and lack of a beak and fierce talons was a big on.

"I think weapons would be very interesting. I have never used any in the past but I suppose if I were to want one, I'd like to make it!" Usually he was more inclined to buy anything he desired but he'd learned recently from reaper friends that weapons were more personal sorts of objects.

"It seems laid out in order. First we must pick materials." He moved Calder closer where there were places set out to sit in front of the materials. The kelpie would have to dislodge from him to make a weapon, correct?

Herryk got a little huffy.

"Herryk just wants Calder to make a good impression, that's all." He actually sounded a little hurt, like a mother hen who'd just been reprimanded.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 7:32 pm

Calder looked at the table, looked at Herryk, and then looked to the older Horsemen watching them. They were being judged here, and despite his fear with heights, the words during the assembly had expressed that they impress their hosts. "Well....I guess you're right." He grumbled an apology.

He slowly pried his arms from Herryk and stood there, as if waiting to be struck down by lightening or fall through the floorboards. This did not happen of course, but Calder wasn't exactly feeling as secure as he did when he was holding someone. It felt as if he was anchored when he had a warm to cling to.

Look at the material, he slowly took a seat. "Do you think the school will let us keep our weapons if we make a good one?" He hoped so. Maybe he'd feel safer if he had a weapon. "Shun, you have a weapon. Do you feel safer being able to have one?" He asked the reaper.

(Entering!)

Amrita trailed after the group that she knew, more or less inviting herself along for the sake of familiarity. The only thing she hated more than heights was fire, and she didn't anticipate War meant hi we're in the trees. War seemed very much like a ground event, but hey; she'd been wrong before, and she was clearly wrong now.

"It...It's okay Calder, we'll be okay---" She meekly waved to the rest of the group, but as everything sunk in and she processed what was being said, the wave faded and her eyes widened. "Wait...weapon building?!" She gasped, staring at the nice layout of materials. Weapons. She'd never held a real weapon before, nevermind even thought about making one! Oh god this was a disaster it was going to be a disaster what is even happening?!

"Well...when in War clan..." The Vetala murmured to herself, falling into awkward step beside those gathering around the materials. "It'd be neat if they did~" She agreed with Calder, surveying the materials again. Hmm, where to start...
PostPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 7:41 pm

Hearing the question aimed towards him, Shun looked up from the materials table towards Calder. He also spotted Amrita coming on in as he did so.

"It does give me an extra edge of being able to defend myself. I don't have claws or fangs or the strength that you undead and monsters tend to have after all. But for me, my daggers are an extension of myself. I'm not sure if I would feel vulnerable without them but I'd definitely feel some sort of void," he explained quietly.

"Of course. Just having a weapon doesn't mean much if you do not know how to use it properly."

Many accidents were to be had when he was first learning. Not that he would openly admit it.

"Perhaps Shun can give us all fighting pointers after we craft our weapons?" Muka sounded excited about that. He didn't seem to notice that he may be imposing all of them on the injured reaper.

Ulmuka hadn't noticed Amrita until now and his head turned all the way to watch her enter. "Hello Amrita!" He hoo-ed happily to her.

The strix turned back to the materials and tired to use his best judgement. He waggled a taloned hand above the choices.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 7:52 pm

"Well, I guess it can't hurt not to have one. I know that sometimes I can run fast, but when it comes to being sharp.....Well." A clack against the floorboards was heard under the table. "I'm more built for trampling than stabbing." The hunters seemed to favor that a lot more.

"At least we're making our weapons." And not making it from some other creature. Everything on the table was not something that was living with a life, family, and a mind. These were all discarded piece of objects dead, like the bones, or fallen off, like the feathers. His fingers lightly touched the objects before patting the seat next to him for Amrita to sit.

"Yeah. When in War Clan..." His eyes looked about, trying to determine what might be the best material to use.

The invite was taken and she took her seat beside Calder, looking over her shoulder at Shun as he explained weapons and...arm extensions. Huh. Maybe she should tell Christof that! He'd probably like the idea of dagger arm extensions. A mental note was taken to tell him.

"That sounds like a great idea! Please, Shun?" This seemed to take her mind off of the whole we're a million feet off the ground thing. "Hi, Muka!" She beamed at the owl boil - whom she still needed to apologize to! - and then took more of a look at those who had joined them. Mostly the big black boil, whom she recognized. "...Herryk, right? Hi!" She waved her backwards fingers at him, and then turned back to the table.

"O-OKAY! Let's make some weapons!" She got to work, and ended up with a Shoddy, Fashionable Bone Knife ( +8 ).
