YOUNG GIRL

Name: Angela Baker
Color: Dark Blue - #00008B
Age: Fourteen
Nationality: Caucasian
Home/Financial Status: Upper-middle, well-to-do; Lynn District - two floor condo
School: Rosaline Academy

Personality:
Fairly intelligent, Angela often comes across as more mature than most others her age and rather doting to her friends and others around her. With a kind and caring personality it’s easy for people to be drawn to her and she’s never one turn down a friend in need – so long as help is in her power. More often than not she allows herself to be a shoulder to cry on and offers advice to the best of her abilities; though romantic love is far from her field of expertise. Angela has a very strong sense of family and platonic bonds, ready to take action at the drop of a hat if someone she loves is in trouble. Despite this, Angela lacks acquaintances that she would openly refer to as a 'friend' rather than just a school-mate, though this is nobody's fault in particular. To her frustration, her prim and proper behavior often pushes people away or causes them to think she's too good for them but really she just wants to be treated like everyone else -- and with her straight-laced upbringing she can't bring herself to change. In a sense she is very traditional, preferring to come off as proper as possible in the presence of others; especially those in higher positions and are looking to be impressed. Knees always together while sitting, legs tucked carefully under her chair, never resting her elbows on the table or talking with her mouth full, waiting for her own turn to speak and offering her full attention are all details she pays close attention to and does her best to follow etiquette. This sometimes makes her appear snooty or stuffy as she takes pride in these traits, though she doesn’t appreciate being treated any differently by her peers as they would one another. Angela can become frustrated by a lack of manners or improper behaviors such as acting out in class or bullying, and while she doesn’t have the strength to act out on these frustrations she isn’t above telling authority figures if necessary. She is a lover of the arts – literature, painting, music, you name it. Part of this is from her mother’s urgings but even then she’ll never complain. She has a great fondness for younger kids, harboring almost motherly instincts to care for them as well as make them happy. Fawning over babies or toddlers in public is a past-time that Angela is very guilty of – with proper manners, of course.

Appearance: Angela has dark, neatly cut hair framing an oval shaped face, generally accented with a gentle smile. Her bangs sweep to the side with two thick, longer strands curtaining down with the back cut into a stylish bob, complete with a white bow. She is slender, preferring to wear modest and fitted dresses with stockings and nice shoes. Her eyes are dark, stark against her light skin. Angela also looks a tad older than she actually is, and coupled her mature personality this sometimes leaves people confused or surprised.

History: From early on, Angela’s upbringing was to be a lady. She was never harshly punished despite her strict teachings, only enough to learn from her mistakes and move on. As soon as she had become old enough to walk and talk she was given courses on etiquette, as well as private lessons for the arts. Like most children from infancy to school-age, Angela was kept at home and chances to meet others her age were few and far between as her parents had few friends with children. Most, if not all, of her young life was spent in the company of adults.

With her tutelage within the household, she had learned reading and writing at a younger age than most and excelled in school. Angela got on well enough with the other kids her age, most too young to learn the habits of their judgmental parents, and regardless of class she had schoolmates that would accept her. In most cases, friction was caused by her lack of patience for ill-mannered children and her inability to keep herself from voicing her displeasure. Kids began to distance from her or deny her a chance to play as they were afraid of getting told off for things they weren’t brought up thinking were wrong. For Angela, it was frustrating on both parts; being denied by her fellow classmates “out of the blue,” as she felt, as well as the others casting her out for being proper. She had little to no idea that, as children, the others didn’t feel as if they had to worry or even put thought into such things.

Her Kindergarten years were spent in a private school, but after her falling out and constantly coming home upset she was moved to another school – a public school. However, as the reasons for her move not taken into consideration when enrolling, Angela was far less accepted by the older and more jaded children. Her social standing and manners made her stand out, and while she did her best to get along, children in this age have more tendencies to come off as cruel, regardless of intent. Her time in public schooling was cut short and she was sent back to another private school. Managing to fit in a little better with disciplined kids her age, it was a bit easier for her. Some kids tried to rebel in school, letting out their frustrations and acting up while out of the house, and this frustrated Angela to no end. She couldn’t quite understand why others her age were so against good behavior.

From infancy Angela spent a lot of time with her grandparents, lacking a proper babysitter or friends that she could have sleepovers with for several years. She didn’t mind this in the slightest, preferring the company of adults as they already had manners instilled in them. Even from the beginning she forged a bond with her grandfather in place of being a “daddy’s girl.” It wasn’t just her grandfather; she was close to all of her family. Even though her father was usually absent, his work as a doctor keeping him busy, Angela always loved when he was home for a visit. She and her mother were always cooking and baking together, and she and her grandfather would go on walks, read and many other activities. She was never bored while at her grandparents’ house.

Despite his active and lively nature, Angela’s grandfather was suddenly diagnosed with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease and within months was rendered bed-ridden. While his mind slowly degenerated, Angela was one of the few people he remembered in his remaining year as she consistently visited daily. Eventually, even his sight failed him and in his last few days he failed to even remember his grand-daughter. His sudden diagnosis and death was damaging to Angela, and while she is recovering, she has to work hard to be her usual, happy self in the presence of others. It’s most noticeable to her mother who constantly checks on her throughout the day while she’s home.

Angela spent a couple of weeks at home, recouping from the trauma, but it wasn’t long before she wanted to be out of the house and returned to school. A lot of sympathy was given and class-mates were a bit kinder, much to Angela’s appreciation. Nowadays, things are returning to normal but she still remains inwardly upset at all times.

Family: Felicia Wells-Baker (mother), Joseph Baker (father), Amelia Baker (grandmother – father’s side)

PUELLA MAGI

Language: Latin

Desires: Angela wishes to speak with her grandfather again and to know that he really is in a better place. She worries for everybody who has ever lost a loved one and desires to be able to give them ease.

Emblem: Pentagon

Weapon: Two pronged spear

Type of Magic: Working mostly as a de-buffer, Angela is able to conjure "spirits" to slow enemies down or cause panic; she can create the illusion of the dead as a distraction or a scare tactic. In most cases her attack power lacks so she relies on tricks of the eye more than anything and has to rely on a team in order to be a successful fighter, otherwise she would quickly lose. Her abilities center around what would be considered ‘magic’ or ‘psychic’ taboos, such as magical symbols (pentagons, magic circles, etc), tarot cards and similar items. With her spear, she traces symbols or runes on any physical surface she can dent or scratch; dirt being the easiest and often most effective.

Outfit: Nothing particular in mind other than European influences.

Name: Angela Baker
Color: Dark Blue - #00008B
Age: Fourteen
Nationality: Caucasian
Home/Financial Status: Upper-middle, well-to-do; Lynn District - two floor condo
School: Rosaline Academy

Personality: Angela seemed to be fairly intelligent, more mature than the other girls in her class. She was seen as different because of this and became a bit of a loner for the most part. As she got older it started to matter less, though she would still tend to keep to herself in most cases. Content and generally happy, she can’t afford to let things get her down. While the passing of her grandfather can still definitely get her into a funk, Angela does her best not to project her negative feelings on others. Sadly, this means she bottles up her negative emotions and works herself sick over them, and sometimes pushing people away. She enjoys debating more than she would ever admit, often getting into deep discussions with those willing to talk. Angela is soft spoken and tends to mumble or speak quickly when excited. Working with Ms. Donahue, she developed a bit of a doting personality, wanting to help others who are in need almost as if she feels it was her job, despite feeling as if there was a strange distance between those she assists and herself. Even though it often takes her out of her comfort zone, Angela tends to find herself taking responsibility in group projects or activities. When it comes to people she feels most comfortable around, there is generally a large age gap. She especially enjoys younger kids, often going out of her way to make them happy.

Appearance: Angela has dark, neatly cut hair framing an oval shaped face, generally accented with a smile. Her bangs sweep to the side with two thick, longer strands curtaining down, with the back cut into a stylish bob, complete with a white bow. She is slender, preferring to wear modest and fitted dresses with stockings and nice shoes. Her eyes are dark, stark against her light skin. Angela also looks a tad older than she actually is, and with her mature personality, sometimes leaves people confused or surprised.

History: Living as an only child, Angela was rather lonely in her younger years and had always wanted a younger sibling. Until she was old enough for school, she spent most of her time with her grandparents. She built a strong bond with her grandfather, and during visits they were practically inseparable. Due to how busy her parents always were, the girl spent most of her days with him. He had been quite fit for his age and would the two would usually be outdoors; walking, playing with animals or even just soaking in the view. He would always be willing to talk about anything. Once enrolled in school, Angela had a small amount of trouble making friends and was sometimes teased, and her grandfather was always there to help. She was fine with this, though, because most of the girls in the private schools she attended in her earlier years weren’t all that much fun anyway. They also had a nasty habit of gossiping and tattling, which never sat well with Angela. Out of any kids her age, she preferred the company of those outside of the private schools her mother usually enrolled her in.

For the most part, her life was normal. The only thing she never really thought about was the absence of her father, though it was out of necessity rather than choice. Around the age of four, she met Ms. Donahue, a family-business friend, for the first time, meeting her a couple times a year until she turned twelve. The poor woman was starting to crumble with age, requesting for Angela to come and help her as a hand maid. Every day after school she would stop by and visit Ms. Donahue for a couple of hours.

Like any other rich child, her mother did her best to have Angela neck deep in artistic abilities; her favorite being music. Growing up, she dabbled in a few different instruments – violin, flute and harp being the main talents, her favorite was the harp. In school, she substituted P.E. for her music classes, taking lessons twice a day with a little bit of “lubrication” from her mother’s wealth. Without having to say it, Angela is less than adequate when it comes to physical activities and often prefers the sidelines. This didn’t help her social status of being the distant, strange kid.

Nearing her fourteenth birthday, Angela’s grandfather became ill and passed away, leaving her with, in her mind, nothing. Having just turned fourteen with her best friend not there to see it, she felt rather empty inside but did her best to smile and make the best of things. Why burden other people with her own problems? Angela did her best to cope, but no one she knew really had any idea of the type of pain she was going through. They were all a bit too young to lose who they considered their best friend and would often distance themselves from her to avoid such negative thoughts. Of course, the alone time, in the long run, was a good thing, but she definitely missed the supportive shoulder she used to lean on daily. Shortly after his death, Angela became interested in spirits and the paranormal, secretly wanting to communicate with anyone who had passed, but more than anyone she wanted to talk to her papa.

Her parents enrolled her into a new school and honestly she was looking forward to it. Might as well try to make some new friends!

Hey Neon! 8D

Angela seems really cool! I like her, but I want to know more about her. What are her ambitions-- does she know what she wants to do with her life yet? What are her strengths and weaknesses academically-- are there are extra-curriculars that she really likes? Is she someone who prefers to work alone, or is she willing to cooperate with others when it's to her benefit? It would be interesting for her loner tenancies to come out/be worked out as a puella, too, since it sounds like her power currently is geared more towards helping out groups.

What is her relationship with others? It sounds like she really likes people, despite the fact that she's seen as different. Does she bear people any ill will for treating her as an older kid/ not including her right away? Was there any experience in her past that made her want to help everyone out, or has she always been this way, even when other kids have picked on her/made her life difficult because of it?

I'd like to hear more about her relationship with her grandfather, too. Since he's a part of her wish, could you tell us more about her relationship with him? What pushed her to contract with Kyuubey so that she could talk with him again-- tell us more about his significance to her life! :D It sounds like she was in a pretty dark place after her grandfather died; how did she cope? Did she contract right away, or did she attempt to make friends at her new school before she realized that she just wanted to talk to him again? Tell us more about her coping process! :3

As far as Angela as a magical girl goes-- I like the idea of her as a debuffer! Very cool! How does her two pronged spear tie into this? Can she use it to draw symbols to summon her spirits? I'd also like to hear more reasoning for the Old English or Latin (prayers?) and how the pentagon ties into her magic, too! Five's a pretty elemental number-- (at the risk of sounding like Captain Planet OTL ) you could do something with the four elements and ghosts, maybe it symbolizes that ghosts are a part of the world, even if they're unseen? Or something! xD

I'm really excited to see what you do with Angela! <3 Good luck and hope this helps!

- In the personality section, why is Angela seen as "different" by her peers? How does Angela react to that-- does she think she's different as well?

- Again, the loneliness in her history isn't explained much. Why did her parents decide to take her to her grandfather's instead of a daycare or other afterschool program? What are her parents always busy with; what does Angela think about them having little time for her?
- Why the trouble making friends? Again, somewhat unexplained.
- How does she meet the company of others outside of the schools she attends? Where would she go? How?

- Whoa! The absence of her father came rather abruptly. Why his leave? And how did Angela start helping Ms. Donahue by the time she was 4-- perhaps an increase in age might be good for this, since a 4 year old isn't too capable of nursing an old lady?
- Why was she entrusted with getting to care for Ms. Donahue? How did she meet her? Why does she choose to work for her; what is Ms. Donahue like?

- The artistic abilities thing is also rather abrupt-- how does she get into it, why does she foster it? I also didn't realize that she came from wealth (I don't read top part of the profile until later); is the money inherited, or what does her mother do? You again mention her strangeness, but it's not explained. Why do others view her as so strange?

- Why did her grandfather suddenly become ill? What was he sick with; how did he die so suddenly, and did Angela notice he was ill since she is with him so often? You also mention that people she knew wouldn't really be able to counsel her-- again, how would she meet those people? Why are they youngsters, if she has so much trouble finding friends at school?
- Why was alone time while coping a 'good thing?'

- Why a new school? What did that have to do with her grandfather's death, or does it at all?

As for the Puella Magi stage:

- For the language, I'd choose one concrete language, even if it's Old English or Latin. I understand that there are hexes and spells in many different kinds of languages, but it'd be nice to do some research on a specific cultures' magic.

That's about it! The main thing I have to say is that the history is rather disjointed, and while the idea for her language is rather interesting, we still need to boil that concept down a tad.
