This... couldn't be right. Or rather, it could be entirely right and someone above hadn't exactly known what they were doing. Administrative error. Yes. That had to be it. Like her new room mate, this had to be yet another administrative error.
She stared at the paper, then stared at where the name on it had led her. She was in the infirmary.
At some point, it had been decided that she should be caught up with things in the lab- a lab grunt who didn't know the latest was a liability, after all, where experiments were ever-changing- and thus, it had been delegated to a fellow grunt to catch her up. As much as she might be a liability after being away, she was still trained in the labs, thus useful, but also... a grunt and so another grunt, who would have been doing the same sort of work, had seemingly, to her, been picked at random to... well, get her up to speed.
Tambrey had asked where she might find this grunt as soon as she'd received the paper. What a name. Roranicus? It /sounded/ like a legendary pokemon.
She paused to mumble a request for help from one of the infirmary staff and was pointed in the right direction.
"... Ror.. ranicus?" She inquired, carefully, of the patient she was pointed toward. If this wasn't him then, Arceus, she'd look weird.

He blinked slowly and stared the ceiling above his head. Whatever they were pumping into his blood stream must be really good; he was asleep more often than not it seemed. He did notice that the chair was unoccupied. Shadow must have taken off at some point so he was down here alone.
Maybe that was why he kept falling asleep; it was better to sleep than to be bored. Plus if he was awake the nurse would probably fuss at him for his failed attempt at walking. Again. He got it walking equals pain, he learned that very quick.
He wondered if that's why they kept him drugged up; he didn't think the burns were still that bad. Then again he had yet to see them; they changed his bandages while he was asleep.
His eyes drifted over to the door where someone had called his name. Why did they insist on using his full name?
"Wha?" he called out to whoever it was.

Aha. Good. That was still and odd name though.
"Hey. Uh. I've no idea if this has been passed on to you, but... I've been told t' come down here for you t' catch me up with... what I've missed in the labs." Stepping into view, she still wasn't in uniform- without doing actual work or quite returning to active duty, it was hard to see a need for it yet. Her movements were stiff, still wounded herself, but clearly well enough to move around.
She looked over the man with the strange name and moved to take a place in the unoccupied chair, wincing on the way down.
"I'm... Tambrey. Uh. I've been away... Obviously... Thank you, by the way. I think I'd better start with that. Meant a lot when you lot arrived..." She looked him up and down and sighed. "Uh. It's got to be an error. I'm sure. I... really don't want to bother you, 's just... Yours is the name on m' orders." She held up the slip of paper as if to show him.

Ah one of the Rockets they brought back. He tried to remember if he seen the girl around before the raid that had gone wrong.
"Ye were one 'f the ki'napped ones, righ'?" he questioned. Why did his voice sound like that? What had been in the last dose of medication?
He was supposed to fill her in. Right, okay, he could do this. He attempted to sit up and his vision started to swim. He waited until he could see straight before facing her.
"Well," he began, "they go' these balls back an' were ex'ermentin' wit' those. I don' know if they still are 'r no'." he shook his head and tried to ignore his vision going fuzzy again. Seriously, what had that lady given him?
"The beakers 'ave t' be clean. No spots, spots bad!" he waved his hand slightly in her direction. "An' do't touch the samples unless they say so. Kinda like that game ya know."

"Yes." She confirmed- 'one of the kidnapped ones'. And then he started... explaining things. Tambrey's head slowly tilted to the side. ... What? She set about trying to decipher the... rather cryptic words that were marching out of the other grunts mouth.
"Balls?" What did that m- Oh. Did he mean the Galactic pokeballs? She remembered that mission but... she wasn't sure they'd actually be getting all that much to do with them. "Ri-ight. Okay, I think... Tech are better suited with those, but that... that is good to hear." Oh, Arceus, he was talking about beakers... "... Uh. What game would that be?" On some level, she was itching to call one of the staff- this was a very odd... state of delirium or something.

He grinned, or tried to anyway, at her question. Why was she looking at him like she couldn't understand what he was saying?
"Ya know, Simon says, 'cept there ai't anyone in there named Simon, at le'st I don' think there's a Simon bu' I dunno," he said taking in her appearance. She wasn't in her uniform, so it was hard to know what rank she was. Since she had been told to come to him to be filled in he figured she was a grunt like him.
"'e ha'e pretty eyes'," he muttered as he leaned his head back against the pillow. He was going to have a long talk with that nurse next time she came in.
A stray thought came to him, "We do 'n awful lot for there no' bein' a Simon, t' call Simon says. n' wins for us."

... Simon Says. Frak. Whoever had decided she needed to come and speak to this funny named, strange talking man either really didn't like her or had not thought about the situation at all.
Something about pretty eyes. Her head started to tilt the other way, and she gave him a slightly squinting look. And back to Simon Says.
"... Uh." She had to come up with something better than 'uh'. She fiddled with the sleeves of her blue sweater, then drummed her fingers on her knees- beneath black trousers- as she tried to work out what to do next.
"Well... maybe there is a Simon and he just, y'know, uses minions... or has a code name?" She tried. "... And I bet he'd say y' should... tell me about the stuff you've been doing in the labs recently, Roranicus..."

"Maybe 'he boss is Simon an' we're 'is minions, tha's why it works," Why would his mind not let go of the stupid kids' game? He'd almost rather have the pain in his legs instead of this daze and urge to ramble on about inconsequential things.
What had he been doing in the labs?
"Cleaning, lots o' cleaning, they're very dirty, ya know, the scientists. An' they showed me where they keep the samples, tha' way I can get 'em when they need 'em," he rolled his eyes at the use of his full name again and regretted it when his vision went fuzzy again.
"And th' name's Rory."

"... Uh. Well... Alright, maybe." Tambrey agreed. Maybe that would help a little bit. If it hadn't been happening because he so injured (and there was a little bit guilt biting in for that) then she might have been able to find it funnier. As it was, she felt a little relieved when he moved on to something that she could really recognise- the chores of cleaning up, fetching things... Grunt-work that, apparently, hadn't really changed, not that she had expected it to at all. She nodded her understanding. "Thanks, 's good to hear 's not changed.." The she focused on his name. "Rory." She repeated, with a soft smile. "Okay. Well that's a lot... easier t' say than Roranicus. 'S nice to meet you, Rory."

At her comment about his name, Rory grinned lazily. "Yeah, Ro'anicus is a history teacher, Rory's a Roma'," he chuckled softly at his own joke. No one here would probably be able to catch the reference. 'Rory the Roman' and his trusty steed.
"'tis the same as when you left, really," Maybe the medication was starting to wear off; he was slowly starting to be able to focus his thoughts and feel a tingling sensation in his legs. "Grunt-work, no' letting us play wit' much of anything, the whole deal."
Her eyes managed to catch his attention again. She looked so confused (understandable since he didn't seem to be making much sense), he wished she would have come later when he hadn't been trying to sleep off the pain medication.
"You should be fine," he said softly. He blinked and tilted his head, "What was your name again?"

"Rory... the Roman?" She asked, almost just to check that she'd heard him correctly. The dark-haired grunt smirked. "Sounds like a TV character or something." Wait... Something familiar was niggling at her brain. Why did that /seem/ familiar? It felt like something she should be able to place but the confusing nature of the conversation, and continued tiredness, stalled her. She held the thought at the back of her mind. "Well... That's good." She smiled gratefully as she got some proper information, even if it was mainly to tell her how little things had changed at all. Oh, he was asking for her name again. "Tambrey. 'S nice to meet you Rory. I do appreciate this." She reassured, though, perhaps, wished she'd arrived at a slightly more lucid moment. It had been a very... interesting conversation up until now. "How... are you feeling, by the way?"

The grin softened into a small smile. "Yeah," he sighed wistfully, "it does, doesn't it?" he remembers being that character, though not on the television. Standing in the contest arenas, dressed up, while the crowd chanted his name. It had been too long since he felt like that; since he had felt wanted. This place was slowly changing that.
He nodded his head towards her; he wished he could've helped her more, at least he was becoming more lucid now and could control what came from his mouth. "You're welcome, Tambrey. Sorry I'm not able to be of much help. It's nice to meet someone else that works in there, though."
He attempted to stretch out when he heard her ask how he was feeling. "Little sore," he replied as the tingling in his legs gave way to a dull ache, "but they keep me dosed up good while the skin heals. Although I'm sure you noticed that," he scratched the top of his blond head nervously.

"Just a little bit, yeah." Tambrey admitted to realising he was dosed up, with her smirk spreading out across her mouth quickly. "For a little while there, I thought we'd have t' play 'Simon Says' just to get you to talk about the labs. I'm glad, by the way." She changed topics to address what he'd said before. "I think it's nice to meet a fellow lab grunt too. 'S always so busy down there... I mean, sure sometimes there's chat, but y'know, I don't know half the names of the people I end up working alongside..." She paused and then studied him a little more carefully. "I have t' admit you look.. slightly familiar so if I've ever worked with you and 've forgotten it, 'm sorry for that and can only assume 't was a busy day..."

Rory blushed slightly when she said she thought she would have had to play the stupid game with him. Next time the nurse came in with pills to give him, he was finding out what it was before he took it. What if one of the higher ups came in while he was like that?
Tambrey had a point about the labs. "I've been down there a month and I still have no idea who I'm working with most of the time."
He noticed her staring at him and couldn't help but feel nervous. Why was she looking at him like that? His eyes widened slightly when she said he looked familiar. He attempted to stop the thoughts forming inside his head; he was here before they were kidnapped so maybe she had seen him around? Yea that had to be it.
"I started out a bit before you all were taken. Maybe I ran into you and don't remember?"

"Hm. Try a year..." The other grunt muttered, but there was a smile with it. She didn't mind /so/ much that she really knew so few of the people she did work with. The people she did know, and most from other departments, were worth knowing and that was good enough. "I suppose so. That could be it..." She regarded him thoughtfully again. "I'd think I'd remember... but, yep, I guess, like I said, I don't remember half the people I work with when 's busy..." Still... There was the little look that suggested that wasn't quite it. "So... You haven't really been here too long then? Much of a change?" For most, she reflected- and herself included- it was a huge change, but she asked all the same.
