It was still... a challenge to grasp. This boredom he felt, the uselessness. What good was he if there was no fighting? Argent spent his time in the training room, trying to figure out just why he was created. Why were there so few genomes?
Why was there no war?
Sure he was learning about their liberation from their creators. But he still had questions, and no one to ask. The only adult he'd met didn't have the answers. Soothe was... a strange one. Much too gentle. He needed someone to talk to, but he had no idea who. The Operator was probably much to busy for the likes of him anyways.
Thus, Argent found his way to the training room once again.

As it was, said Operator still kept the habit of morning workouts, as he liked to keep his skills polished and his body in top shape. Preferring to do so on the ship most of the time - not that he didn't like the outsides, far from it, but as long as he was the only one able to protect mother he would only leave the ship ocassionally - he could usually be found in one of the training rooms. Being someone who was always alert to his surroundings, Ghost turned as he heard soft footsteps at the door, lowering the sword he was holding. He did not quite mind someone interrupting his daily routine, so he greeted the child his usual, gentle smile. "Hello, Argent." He hadn't seen the youngest boy since his birth and couldn't help noticing that the child looked a bit ... lost. "Were you looking to get some training, or is there anything you need?"

Argent looked up at Ghost. He hadn't expected to see the Operator here. "Sir." He gave a solute as he entered. "No... no sir, I mean, yes sir. I was going to train." He frowned slightly. Why, now that he was face to face with the man, was he finding it hard to ask him the one thing he wanted to know? He glanced at the man's sword. "... Would it be alright to spar with you?" He blurted out, though the expression he held was surprisingly hopeful for him. Maybe... maybe he could figure things out if he could fight the Operator! Surely this man knew the reason they were created... right?
"That is, if you aren't busy..."

Ghost laughed softly. That young one sure was quite eager, but he seemed to be ... a bit too caught up in the old ways. Not that there was anything wrong with that, but he wanted the children to first and foremost act like just that: children. They were supposed to have fun and enjoy their childhood days. "You want to spar with me? Sure, why not. There's nothing wrong with a little friendly competition." Of course he would go easy on the child. Even if Argent had been spending all his days so far at the training center, there was no way he could match a trained elite in skill. And there was really nothing wrong with letting the kid show off his skills a bit if it made him happy.

Argent brightened further. "Thank you!" He hurried to acquire a training spear. "I haven't had anyone to train with." He admitted. All his training was done alone. But that was ok! Ghost had actually seen the fighting before, right? Maybe... Maybe he would learn something, and then he could ask why there was no fighting here. He crouched down, holding the spear ready. "Sir! Any time your ready!"
He was tingling with anticipation.

A spear? An interesting choice by one so young, but surely a formidable weapon once mastered. Ghost had to admit his curiosity was sparked. "Truth is, I haven't had anyone to spar with since ... well, a long time." He answered with a smile, weighting the wooden training sword in one hand before skillfully flipping it over to the other, swinging it once while falling into a casual looking battle position. His posture might look playful to those that didn't know much about fighting, and surely to him this was a game of sorts, but Ghost new well to put all his skill in every move. He was facing a child, after all, and it wouldn't do if he hurt the kid in any way, even by accident. "Well then, show me what you got."

If Ghost had wanted to see Argent act like a child, now may be his best chance. Argent's face lit up, eyes sparkling with awe and adoration. Ghost was so cool! He held the sword like a pro! ... Of course he was a pro, he wasn't Operator for no reason. "Sir!" Argent chirped happily before shifting the spear.
The weapon was a little long for the short child's body. It was evident by the way he dashed forward, holding the polearm awkwardly so he could run without tripping, but still have control of the 'blade.' Though for a training spear, said blade was a weighted wad of padding. It would leave a bruise at best.

Smiling with amusement, Ghost let the child charge at him, quickly calculating the possible following movements before sightstepping at the last moment and lightly tapping Argents shoulder with the flat side of the sword. "That's one down. Pay more attention to your opponent's movements". He advised gently, taking two steps back and beckoned the boy to try again. Ghost had to admit that even if the kid was hardly a match for him, this was more fun than training alone.

He blinked at how Ghost had been able to move so ... easily and avoided his attack. It was amazing! He turned to face Ghost again, shifting the spear. It hit the wall behind him. It gave the boy an idea. Where he was, he couldn't reach Ghost. Not with the hold he had on the spear. With a smirk, he thrust the butt of the spear against the wall, shifting his grip down, and with quick half step, thrust the padded end at Ghost again.
He was getting excited. This was the sort of training he needed! This is what he wanted. If there was no war, he needed this at least.

The idea was a good one, the movement well and controlled, for a child this young. However, with his amound of experience Ghost had no difficulty to block the spear with his sword, using it's own speed and movement to redirect the blow with a force that almost send the boy off balance. Another opening, but this one Ghost let slide. He didn't want to discourage Argent by totally dominating the fight.
"Good, that was better, but you still have a long way to go."
He moved his sword in a low arc, flexing his shoulders.
"You seem quite eager. A heart made for fighting beats in your chest, doesn't it?" Ghost asked with a smile. "A thing I understand well. Even if there is no war here, it's not a bad thing to know one's strenght and utilize it. You could make a fine guard when you grow up. Something that is always needed, even in times of peace. Nooine knows what waits for us beyond the borders of what we already know of this planet."

Argent would have tried to redirect the spear, but he heard Ghost's words, and the faux-weapon drooped and the tip touched the ground as Argent looked at the operator. His comment had hit the heart of his concerns. "There is no fighting here." He repeated. "So why are we still created?" They were weapons, Argent knew that. But with no war, what was the point of his existence? Who was creating them? Was it mother? Was it Ghost? And why?
Though Ghost's praise didn't fall on deaf ears. If he could be a guard, that would give him some meaning, right? "Will you keep training with me then? So I can be effective in my job?" That is, if he became a guard. Though it didn't sound like a bad idea to the battle-minded child. It would give a little validity to his being, and Ghost was the only one who had seen battle, so he was the only one who could train him.

Lowering the sword as well, Ghost smiled. "If that is what you wish, I'll see to it that I manage a training shedule where we can meet up. There is really not that much to do for me on the ship at the moment, so it should be all right."
It happened a lot that Genome children this young were already quite certain of what they would do later, he had seen it with the other children around here and with a lot of children back on their home world. They didn't have much options to choose from of course, but the choices as to where on the battlefield they would later stand was decided quite early.
"However, I would also encourage you to go outside a lot, explore the surroundings of the ship. You'll find a lot of interesting and stange things to do, I'm sure. And exploring is always a good training. " The Operators words were soft yet stern. "Learning to survive in the environment, building up your constitution, things like that. Knowing and mastering weapons alone doesn't make a warrior."

The silver-haired boy smiled slightly. Ghost would train with him. He couldn't ask for a better teacher. He would venture outside more, yes. If it was what Ghost wanted, if it would help him grow as a warrior, as a person, then he would do it eagerly. But he couldn't completely enjoy the other man's words as he waited for an answer on why he was created. Him and the others.
"Are you or mother lonely?" He meant no disrespect, but, if there was no war, were they being created for companionship?

Ghost blinked with the unexpected question, before a small sigh escaped his lips. "I guess you could say that sometimes, yes, I'm sort of lonely. I'm not exactly a people person, but I had some ... friends, comrades that I fought alongside with, that I would rather have here with me than dead or lost in outer space." He smiled slightly. "As for Mother, no. She wasn't programmed to simulate feelings like lonelyness, and as long as she has her little hatchlings to look after, she is quite content." It was strange, really. He hadn't expected that he was obviously showing his feelings quite open if even the children noticed. "It's really not something you should concern yourself with." He told Argent gently. "Or is that how you feel as well? Lonely?"

He thought about that. Ghost had others. The people who fought with him.. It made sense to want them here. But they weren't here. Ghost was surrounded by kids. Though the idea that mother couldn't feel lonely was strange to him.
"I-" Argent wasn't really lonely. There were others here. There was companionship if he wanted it. But there was something else. "-don't really understand the others. I don't belong here." Maybe it was sort of being lonely. He didn't understand the other children, and the things they did, he didn't connect with them; he wanted to fight, they were enjoying the peaceful life.
But then, Argent had a thought. "I can be your comrade. ...If you'd let me. Then you wouldn't have to be so lonely."
