[00:53] Rocket Faleen: Yeah, I guess you could. Too much to think about I guess, a lots happened. How are you doing?
[00:57] Rocket Hayes: just reading. hard to sleep after that nap on the way back. [00:59] how'd it go after the group split?
[01:01] Rocket Faleen: It could have gone better, but with as outnumbered as we were I was surprised we made it out like we did. [01:01] You guys really saved us with nabbing Deimos.
[01:02] Rocket Hayes: that was really lucky [01:03] I'm glad you're okay.
[01:07] Rocket Faleen: I'm humbled that you would say that, considering your own position in that mess... and I simply walk out with a cut on my face. [01:08] It is good to have you back,

"Shirt," Hayes swung his chair around and headed for the closet, "shirt.."
Over on the bed Switch twitched an ear and burrowed deeper into his pillow. He'd adjusted quickly to his person's return and was back to feigned indifference, but he'd be snuggled up to Hayes' side at night for a long time. He'd have to fight with the rest of the team; Binary, Nemerle, even Therac seemed to have missed him. It'd be like sleeping in a stuffed animal fort, which he hadn't done since he was five.
Hayes grabbed the first t-shirt off the hanger and wrestled it over his head, careful of the gauze on his arms, and sneezed. There was a fine layer of dust over everything in here; he needed to clean. And do laundry. And restack that pile of books - all normal thoughts, prompted by the normal worry of someone coming over in the middle of the night except that if it'd been someone else he wouldn't give a damn. Normal. Normal felt good.

Faleen was normally found wearing a full Rocket uniform when she was in base, it had almost become a part of her. But, it was in the middle of the night, and It would have taken much longer then necessary to change out of her pajama pants to put on her uniform, along with the black suit she wore under it. Plus she was just dropping by Hayes' room to give him the USB. No no, a uniform would be silly.
Instead, she had changed into the first pare of jeans she could grab from her dresser, slipped on her flats, and leaving the Tshirt on that she had intended to sleep in. It would be perfectly fine. "Umbreon, you stay here, I'll just be right back." she told her Dark type, who looked around ready to go with. He blinked, ears flattening back at her order, clearly not too pleased, but he sat down anyway.
With the USB clasped in her palm, Faleen made her way down the halls, past the doors of the Agent wing, and up to the higher floor, where the much quieter, much nicer Elite quarters were. She made sure to step lightly as she counted along the door numbers, finally pausing at number "44"
She tapped her knuckle against the door.

The last time she'd come by he'd missed her messages, so to him she'd just shown up. Waiting was odd; he found himself shoving his hamper in the closet and running his fingers through his hair. If he'd gotten the same texts from Aulus he would've just stuffed something in the microwave and loaded up whatever game they were running co-op on at the mo- hell, these comparisons were useless. He knew how he felt about her. It definitely wasn't the way he felt about his old partner, never mind what rumors were floating around.
A light rapping caught his attention.
Hayes opened the door a moment later. He'd had a shower and his face was clean-shaven; in a rust-colored t-shirt with an off-white screenprint of robots with protest signs and pajama bottoms that folded softly over his bare feet, he looked a world away from the dull-eyed thing that had raised its head in the Galactic cell. The thinness of his face and the bandages on his arms, however, showed they were one and the same.
"Hey," he said after a half-second. It was the same quiet tone Faleen had heard in the infirmary.

The door opened, and she lifted her head up to green the man that met her. Though he look drastically different from what he had looked like back in the infirmary. her lips parted slightly, staring that Hayes, more like he was before he was taken. Though, there wasn't getting around the obvious signs.
He really was back.
She gave him a smile, followed with a quiet laugh. "Your looking a lot better already."
Her arm lifted and her fingers opened as the USB was held out to the Elite.

A tired grin broke across the programmer's features. "Thanks." It faded, but a trace of something softer lingered in his eyes. "It's good to be home." The way he reached out and took the USB stick from her fingers was careful, almost delicate, and he blinked in surprise when his thumb brushed hers by accident.
"You watched these?" he asked, clearing his throat to cover his reaction. Arceus, don't let it be noticeable. Not when he'd just got her back.

She was nervous again, words were hard to work out in her head. Maybe it was just... after spending so much time and work on trying to get them back, with no real guarantee... to finally have succeeded. Maybe it was just the fruits of their labor that she was feeling.
Or the fact that she was feeling a little flustered when Hayes looked at her might have something to do with it.
Her cheeks pinked a little when his hand touched hers, suddenly worried that he might have felt how hard her heart was beating through the brief contact.
No... This was different.
She changed a look back at him when he spoke, and she shook her head. "I haven't. no. so I won't spoil anything." she added with a tiny smile.

That month away had really messed up his head. Right now, what he should do was say thank you, good night, and shut the door. Then he could stay up until fatigue knocked him unconscious or spend the next hour staring at the ceiling, but he wouldn't be in danger of doing anything telling, saying anything unsafe. It had been hard, so far away, to keep in mind where their friendship ended and his feelings began; she hadn't been there to set the boundary with her suddenly professional words, her flinching reactions that killed him a little every time. Now that he was seeing more than a memory of her smile he couldn't seem to remember, couldn't seem to stop from doing something ill-advised for the sake of keeping her presence.
C'mon man. Remember, she doesn't want you. Just say good night.
"Would you like to? Since you can't sleep."
Dammit.

Something told her to decline, The robotic engineer, the Rocket Agent in her. Reminding her that she had duties in the morning, Hayes was a colleague, a superior, a friend. Friends didn't make her feel this way, they never have before, this was getting dangerous, ill advised, she didn't have the time for this!
She blinked once, her features shifting to a politely pleased expression.
Remember what happened last time you let someone close!
"That would be nice, If your sure I won't be intruding..."
Damn it.

Hayes spoke out of a half-smile. "You never intrude."
He closed his fingers around the data stick and moved away from the door, which swung open without his touch. His quarters were dimly lit; illumination came from the bright screen on his desk showing a messenger client over a browser. It outlined the edges and distinguished the whites of his dresser, his bookcases, his bed - all different furnishings, but made his own by familiar clutter and volumes. The dark start of a tile floor was an abbreviated kitchen; a regulation couch and TV were angled to make a small 'den' area. A tangle of cords and game controllers suggested what he usually used that spot for.
Hayes considered the logistics of where to sit.
Uh.
Bed was definitely out.
He disappeared into his closet. "Hold on a sec."
He had a cable for this somewhere.

She stepped gingerly into the room, glancing around at the quarter set ups. "Elite quarters are very nice." It seemed the thing she say when she didn't know what to say.
It was a different room, but here and there were familiar items that she had seen in Hayes' previous room. She couldn't help a fond smile, stepping up in front of a familiar Robot action figure, leaning down to peer it over while Hayes looked for something in his closet. "Hello Wheeljack." She said quietly.

"Oh- yeah." Hayes sounded distracted while he rummaged around in the closet. "More space than I can use."
The well-loved little robot had moved to the end table by the bed, sharing space with a dog-eared novel by Heinlein. A furry mound was curled up nearby; it gave a yawn, cheeks sparking in the darkness. The bed was still made; a shallow depression suggested a body had lain on top of the comforter, but hadn't bothered to get under it.
Hayes emerged, unrolling a long connector cable.
"Remote's by the XBox," he said, and reached around the back of his computer tower to screw one end of the cable into place. He fed the cord out across the carpet, did the same to the back of the TV, then crossed back to insert the USB drive and open its contents.
The filecount of the folder made him blink. "Wow. There's a lot."

Her attention slipped from the robot, to the Pikachu on the bed, not surprised to see the Pikachu taking up a comfortable position.
Straightening up when Hayes came back out with a cable, she glanced around to where he had claimed the remote was. crossing the room to pick it up, she sat herself down onto the edge of the couch as she quickly looked over the controls, then turned the TV in time to see Hayes bring up the files in the USB
"Yeah... you were gone a while." She didn't think about what she had said until she had said it, letting the last part drift away with a sinking heart.

The blond's hand stilled over the mouse. "..yeah," was all he said.
The files loaded into a playlist; suddenly sound blared from the speakers. Hayes winced. "Sorry. Guess the last time I used it was for co-op." He probably still had Aulus' Call of Duty disc too. It was like being in a stranger's room, continually making little discoveries highlighting how disconnected he'd become.
From here he could see Faleen backlit by the TV, the angle lighting up fine flyaway strands of her hair. He stepped over, aware of his position relative to hers. When he sat, he made sure of a safe distance between them, drawing a knee up and tucking his other foot under himself comfortably. He gave her a little glance, then trained his eyes on the screen.
"Season Two?"
And maybe another little one.

She felt instantly horrible for bringing it up like that, watching as he paused and just added a simple reply to her comment. She watched him while he leaned over his computer, the glasses that she had been holding onto for a week, finally sitting on his face where they belonged, now reflecting the glow from the computer. He was still working through the files. She had forgotten how tall he was, he had a nice shape to his shoulders too, it was a shame he didn't wear uniform as often as he did casual, his shoulders always wore the uniform very well.
Woh... wait what?
She opened her mouth she apologize to him, but before she could form the words a sudden loud noise from the TV caused the Agent to actually jump and yelp in surprise, nearly dropping the remote. She quickly gathered it back into her hands and adjusted the volume.
He walked over to sit down on the couch, and got comfortable. Faleen herself remained on the edge of the couch, but kicked her flats off, and pulled her knees up to her chest. leaning against them as she tucked loose strands of hair behind her ear, almost nervously.
She could barely see him out of her peripheral vision, still not sure why his presence was having such an impact... why now of all times? It never used to before...
"Yeah, Season two." She confirmed, glancing over him, catching one of the small looks. She blinked.
