Hikaru stretched his legs as he left the tunnel that lead to Mazunguko. This was it. This was his moment to shine. He would shine brighter than any firefly he caught. The other catchers were already off doing their job. They hardly ever stretched like Hikaru did. That's probably one of the reasons they weren't as good at catching. That's probably why he was the best.

He glanced around once everyone left he was ready to go. Net in mouth he bolted in a random direction. He was going top speeds. Gracefully he darted this way and that to avoid random obstacles that were in his path. He wanted to get to his catching spot before anyone else did. His catching spot was the best and he knew it. It was one of the other reason that he had superiority over the other catchers.

He saw the forrest up ahead near the mountains. In the heart of the small forrest was a lake. It was a fairly small lake, but fireflies came from all sorts of places to dance around the lake. He slowed down as he got closer. A grin fell on his face when he saw the fireflies dancing in the night, in the light of the moon. As usual is gorgeous.

Catching the fireflies were important to the pride, Hikaru knew that, but he couldn't help but feel bad for the fireflies. He often wondered if they liked their lives in Mazu? It wasn't a terrible wonderful life for them, he thought. All they got to do was lite up the tunnels till their light goes out. It was a sad thought for Hikaru but he quickly got over it.

He came there with a job to do. There was no way he would go home empty handed. All the brothers of Mazu had a job to do. His was just as important as anyone else's. In some ways his was the most important. He was the one who provided light in the tunnels for the other members to do their job. WIth his net ready he started catching the fireflies, as many as he could.

AJ trudged, paws heavy, towards the smell of water. The days were cooler near the mountains, but the desert was still the desert. Days were hot no matter where you were. Nightfall had provided much needed relief from the heat, but the large lion was parched. His empty stomach was starting to voice its hunger as well. AJ hoped he could catch a fish or two before settling down to get some rest.
A firefly buzzed by him, making AJ freeze. The lion followed it for a few brief seconds before realizing that the glowing insects were all around him. They seemed to be everywhere, hovering in the air like small stars fallen from the sky. His steps were slow and careful as he continued onwards, eyes fixed on the bugs dancing in the air. AJ had never seen something this before. The small lake lay ahead of him, the moon casting a silver glow on the rippling water. The fireflies flew to and fro, together lighting up the clearing with a soft glow. It was beautiful. And AJ didn't toss that word around lightly.
He didn't find many things beautiful or nice at all since his exile. Rogue life tended to be harsh and dismal, a fact that AJ's appearance showed clearly. His fur was tangled, though he had picked out the mats a few days ago, and his mane was a scruffy teal mess. He had little time to care about his appearance when more important things such as finding food and water took precedence. But being in this place made the former warrior want to sit down and give himself a good grooming. Maybe he would in the morning.
AJ tore his eyes away from the mesmerizing scene to lap at the cool water. It tasted clean and crisp, soothing his parched throat. The lion licked the drops off his muzzle, as he tried to keep an eye out for fish. He could hear plenty of frogs croaking away, but AJ preferred fish. Though frogs would have to do if he couldn't catch any fish.
A blur of motion caught his eye. It was a cheetah, something grasped in its mouth. AJ kept perfectly still, muscles tense and ready to fight. But the cheetah didn't seem to notice him at all. It began to run back in forth in what AJ though to be an erratic manner. Perhaps the cheetah was crazy. AJ had met a crazy lion once, drawn mad by years of solitude. Briefly AJ wondered if he would end up like that some day, but he shook the musing away. He was in no mood for a fight, and crazy felines tended to be short-tempered or unpredictable. Or both. The lion took a step back, meaning to creep away, but his paws slipped in the mud. AJ slid into the lake with a great splash, water soaking through his mane. Cursing he peddled backwards, returning to dry, solid ground. AJ shook the water out as best he could and unsheathed his claws. There would be no creeping away quietly now.

Hikaru stopped the moment he heard the splash. He twirled around to see what had made it. His eyes opened wide when he saw the dark colored lion. He wondered if he was hurt, or if something happened to him. Carefully he set down the net, making sure no fireflies could get out. Than he ran over to the lion.

It wasn't often that he met an outsider. He knew that most members of Mazu avoided them when they could. That's why they lived underground, or at least that is why Hikaru thought they did. Outsiders interested Hikaru though. He was always fascinated by how they lived. Their lives were completely different than his. When he was younger he lived the life of an outsider, but he hardly remembered it.

As he approached the lion he slowed down his speed. He stopped a couple feet from the lion. "Hey there! Are you okay?" He asked quickly. Hikaru didn't know how to speak at a normal speed. Sometimes it was hard to even understand what he was saying. "I heard a big splash and well, I was worried. I mean you look okay I think, but I'm not a healer. I don't know a thing about it. You could be moment away from dying and I wouldn't know."

He grinned awkwardly. "Oh, I am Hikaru by the way! I am a catcher for the Mazunguko Lands. It is very nice to meet you!" He said.
