It was a sunny spring day, the birds were singing, the grass was green-ing, the squirrels were chittering, and Falconwing was utterly, utterly bored. And as The Little Meadow herd would soon find out, that was usually not a good thing at all, given the young colt's tendency towards the theatric. Most days he would bide his time watching birds soar up into the branches, or the sky, or dive into the water, and imagine himself doing the same. Falcon's wings were still quite useless, even though he prided himself on being the only child bearing Eversong's unique set.

Not that it mattered much when, y'know, he couldn't use them.

"Guyssssss," he whined to his siblings, stamping a hoof. "I'm bored. Let's go do something before Mama comes over and cleans us or something."

Not that he needed help with that, thanks. Falconwing was the image of pristine, Jarita's familial neurotic genes making themselves quite clear even at a young age.

Kaliri arched a brow slightly as her brother stamped his hoof in such a demanding manner and whined..actually whined, sure he might have their mothers disdain for being dirty..but Kaliri wasn't entirely convinced he had her penchant for acting with poise.

No matter of course I mean it wasn't like there was anyone around for them to impress at the moment - but it was an observation she made none the less. "We could go into the forest" She suggested, turning her head to look into the shadowy tree's which were surely far more interesting then the open grassy plain they were currently standing in. "We've already been the stream a bunch and the waters not warm enough to swim.." She pointed out. "Maybe we can find somewhere to practice trying to fly without mom and dad dancing about all worried like"

Fairbreeze had been quite content to stay where they were at the moment, however if his siblings went off then he would be obliged to follow. Better to follow then than be accosted by that hyper filly Lapin. He liked Lapin it's just that she was way too excitable to really do much with. Plus she was tiny and he was sometimes worried he might step on her. So Fairbreeze stuck close to his siblings and parents for the most part. Honestly he wasn't bored, nor did he think the water was too cold to swim in, but everyone had their own opinions on things and if that's what his siblings thought then that was fine. He wouldn't have minded going for a swim, but he would also be happy to stay here or go exploring.

"We won't be able to fly in the trees." He pointed out to his sister, not to prove her wrong, but to let her know that while they could go into the forest it would not be an ideal spot to try flying. Unless of course they found a big enough clearing within the trees that wasn't already occupied by one of the herd usdia then they might be able to try their wings out. "And mother won't be happy if we wander off, neither will father." This was directed at both his siblings, though perhaps a bit more towards Falconwing.

"Gods, you're a fun-killer with your . . . fact-iness." Falcon made a face. While he knew Fairbreeze was right, it didn't mean he couldn't poke him about, well, anything he said that didn't immediately mean agreement with him. It was a simple tease, however, as he plowed straight onward in his thought-processes aloud. "Fine, if Mom and Pop don't want us wandering off, we won't. I wanted to go see the tiny things anyway."

Despite, y'know, being quite hung-ho about the flying idea not ten seconds ago.

"Or, or! Orrrrr we could race," Falcon added with a big grin, bouncing from hoof to hoof. "Let's race the tiny things and see if they can keep up."

Kaliri rolled her eyes slightly at Fairbreeze - which was a little bit creepy what with the way they glowed and all "Well it's not like we'd be able to fly high anyways" She told him "We need to practice for that" She stated in her own matter of fact voice.

"But I"m up for a race" She added a few moments later in a cheery tone not being one to dwell on being shot down or proved wrong. There really wasn't much point in holding a grudge..besides these were her brothers and she had to allot them a bit more patience then she would anyone else obviously. "Though I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to call them little things...dad keeps saying they're just like us but smaller" She pointed out, glancing around as thought to make sure their parents hadn't been around to overhear the comment.

A slight frown formed on his face as Falcon called him a fun-killer. It wasn't Fairbreeze's fault that he always felt the need to point out facts like that, it was just part of his nature and even when he tried to hold them back then would always come spilling out of him sooner or later. With a sigh Fairbreeze moved on with the conversation much like his siblings had. He knew they didn't say those things to hurt him, they were all in a joking manner but it didn't mean he liked hearing them all the time. Ah well, it was in the past so now it didn't matter.

He couldn't help bu scoff when Falcon mentioned the "tiny things". Did his brother not care to remember what they were actually called? Even his sister didn't say their proper name, though at least she pointed out that they aren't to be called tiny things. "They are called Usdia." He informed his siblings, much as he would have liked to not point out the obvious again he just had to tell them. "And Kaliri is right, they are still foals just smaller than us, like father says." Then his gaze turned to Falconwing. "I don't think it would be fair to race them, their legs aren't very long." Although now that he thought about it if either of the Usdia foals were to accept a racing challenge it would likely be Lapin as that foal seemed to be constantly on the move. "What if we just race between ourselves?" And because he saw his opportunity to show his brother how fun he could actually be instead of a fun-killer Fairbreeze smiled widely. "And go." And then he took off at a gallop, he would win this race even if it involved a small amount of cheating to begin with.

"Usdia, tiny things, won't matter when they're in my dust," Falcon proclaimed in response, smirking. "'Sides, they can say no to the challenge and cheer me on. We're supposed to be making friends, right?" Tiny legs wouldn't be an issue if they work hard enough, he figured, should the tiny ones decide to come along. Besides, they were older than him and his siblings, so it wouldn't be a big issue -

- wait what.

"YOU BIG CHEATER!" the colt yelled after the fleeting form of his brother, nonetheless grinning madly as he too broke into a gallop, wings fluttering like they alone could make the difference. "We don't even know where the finish line issssss!"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 25, 2012 5:07 pm

"Usdia" Kaliri repeated, rolling the word over on her tongue..yes that's what it was, the proper word had escaped her mind and she was about to thank her brother for reminding her - sometimes all of his facts were worth while - when he took off in a mad dash, shortly followed be her other brother.

Well damn.

"I guess naming you 'fair' wasn't based on your personality" She grumbled to herself before digging in her hooves and taking off after them as fast she she could, straining in an attempt to close the gap between them "It's the tree over there!" Kaliri made up on the spot, shouting it out to her two brothers.

Cheater...it was such a relative term. After all Fairbreeze had said 'go' before taking off, so how was that cheating. That was plenty of warning. Even if they had have waited til they were properly lined up the race would have started the same way, one of them would have said go then they all would have scrambled to be the first one moving. Of course it was only when Falcon pointed out that they didn't have a set destination that Fairbreeze realized a slight flaw to his plan. He may have gotten the jump on his siblings and, after a quick glance over his shoulder, still had a lead on them but the finish line was unknown to all three foals.

Thankfully Kaliri made up for his momentary lack of planning and announced the finish line. Of course it also took a moment for Fairbreeze to find that exact tree. There were plenty around but only one stood by itself. Now he had the goal in sight Fairbreeze continued forward, a small laugh escaping him as he ran. Much as he would like to win in the end having fun was what mattered most to the blue toned colt. "Come on Kaliri!" He called to his sister, encouraging her to catch up, but he would try to not let Falcon get ahead of him if he could manage it.

The feeling of running was exhilarating to Falcon. Like flying without wings and more chances of falling over, but still it was close enough until his wings grew out more. Nonetheless the young colt attempted to flap his budding wings, finding that though it made him tire quickly, it gave him a little edge every few steps or so. Fairbreeze's figure was slowly being caught up to!

He almost didn't hear Kaliri's suggestion of the finish line, so stuck was he on this feeling of "land flying". Falcon tossed her a grin over his shoulder, letting his pace go a bit lax. "What was that, Kali?" he teased between light pants. "I couldn't heaaaaar youuuuuuu~"

While Fairbreeze angled the course of the race towards the particular tree she had called out and shouted out encouragement Kaliri dug her feet into the ground in an effort to gain some on her two brothers - they were both a little bit bigger then she as colt tended to be, but she was bound and determined not to let that be an excuse for loosing. Flattening her ears and stretching out her neck she thought for a few moments that she was indeed gaining ground on Falcon at the very least..until she noticed that he had slowed down on purpose to tease her.

Putting on a burst of speed she nipped his rump and drew level with him. "The tree!" She shouted at her panting brother "The finish line is the tree!" She finished before trying to get ahead of him once more.

He could both his siblings behind him and they were getting closer by the moment. That initial burst of speed that had gotten him his head start advantage had faded away and now Fairbreeze was struggling. His muscles ached, begging him to slow down or stop but he couldn't. Not with the tree so close now, not with his brother right on his tail. No he had to keep going until one of them one, preferably him but he would also be happy if he lost, this was all about fun at this moment. Fairbreeze chanced a glance over his shoulder. There he saw Kaliri starting to pass Falconwing. Good, he wanted his sister to win if possible.

"Come on Kaliri, you can beat him!" He encouraged her again before turning to face forward again. They would reach the tree soon and at this rate any of them could win. If he faltered, Kaliri would win or possibly Falcon, but Falcon was looking about as tired as Fairbreeze felt at the moment. Just a bit further he told himself, then they could all rest before finding a new activity to keep them busy for a while. "Falcon you're slowly down!" He mocked his brother playfully, trying to not sound tired himself.

"Only 'cuz I was being fair, unlike someone else!" Was he going to pin that on Fairbreeze still? Absolutely. Growing exhaustion or not, though, Falcon was determined to win this race - his pride was on the line you guys. Flapping his budded wings awkwardly to put up bursts of speed, the colt focused on his brother's blue form, thinking: SPEED. I. AM. SPEED.

(( We could roll a d10 to see who wins, unless you guys'd rather talk it out on AIM. ))

They were close..so close now and with her brothers busy picking at one another Kaliri hoped that they would be distracted enough to slow them down. Maybe she would win? It woud be great, then she could rub it in the boys noses that they had been beaten by a girl. they would never live it down, unfortunately she too was growing tired and no matter how hard she tried it didn't seem like she could catch up to her bigger brothers.

And then she tripped over a rock and almost fell on her face...which certainly didn't help her chances at winning any. It didn't look like she was going to win - but she was deter minded to finish at the very least and after regaining her balance after the rock she drew on all of her tired muscles and tried to sprint the last few feet to the tree.

The tree was so close now! The winner would be decided in the next few strides. Though his lungs were struggling to keep breath in him and his muscles felt like they might turn to mush Fairbreeze pushed on. Once they finished they would all certainly need a good rest. Another glance over his shoulder showed his sister tripped over a rock, he nearly slowed his pace for a moment but he could see that she had recovered so he did the only thing he could do and kept running. He knew he would beat Kaliri now, but the question was would he also beat Falconwing? He would find out in a few moments. Ears pinned back in concentration Fairbreeze we on, gasping for breath. Just a few more feet, he told himself, just a few more feet!
