It was hot and Rellik was thirsty, more so than she had been in the past several days. She tried to swallow but felt as if there was sand in her mouth, on her tongue, and it almost pained her. She walked to an inner area of the lands, to try and find shade to relax and try to get her mind of water, the nergui, but she was unsure of how long she could push the thoughts aside.
If only she had found some type of prey today in her wandering, something large enough to sate her thirst but also provide a meal for another who needed it.
Silver eyes looked forward as she walked slowly, head down, body language reading tired, her paws aching against the sand.

He couldn't really remember a time when he hadn't felt as dry as the desert around him. Sand moved through his veins and his mouth was as dry as the few sheath of grass that occasionally sprouted atop the red dunes. He lay flat out on his side under the dubious shade of a rocky outcropping, though every little while he had to get up and move around to keep in the shade as the sun slowly rotated over head, seeking his pitch black hide and making frequent attempts to cook him alive within it. He didn't often envy others with red or white coats, but today was one of those days as he felt as if he was literally turning to dust.
Lifting his head he blinked against the reflected glare of the sun that splashed up from the rich sands all around his shadowy patch and turned to peer into the crack where he had stashed the efforts of his night-time hunting. He simply couldn't bare to move during the hotter parts of the day, so he had taken up hunting at night when it was far cooler and his dark coat didn't feel as if it was drawing the sun down on him like a malevolent being.
Gradually he became aware of a red tripped figure pacing past not far away and dragged his head round to squint at her. She looked worn and even hotter than he did. Pushing himself up onto his paws he watched her for a moment more, struggling to work out weather or not she would appreciate his interruption, before he flung caution to the wind and called out to her, hoping to catch her attention.

As she walked, tired, the lack of water not helping her body, her ears perked forward as she heard a call. Raising her head she peered out, a lone dark figure on the dunes. She was on edge for a moment, until she realized there was no threat, no incoming of nergui, and she watched the other carefully. They were dark, but the red hot firekin red was upon them. A younger male, but still strong.
She turned her movements to walk towards him, he seemed tired as she, and perhaps they both needed to find seclusion in shade.
Rellik returned his call as she began approach.

Pleasure swept through him as she turned. She had heard him and realised it was she he was hailing. Relieved he didn't have to leave the shade of the rocky outcropping to fetch her, he sat back down and waited for her to come close, not at all keen to leave what respite the rock's shadow offered to meet her half way when they would both only come back here to hide in the scraps of shadow.
Once she was close enough for him to tlak instead of shout, he gave her a welcoming smile. "Hi. I thought you might want to share my shade for a little while... " he glanced upwards, squinting into the cloudless sky. "It will be noon soon." And anyone caught out in the full sun at noon ere going to fry their brains with the heat. As it was, in the shade it was still hot enough to slow-cook a lion... but that was infinitely preferable to being flash-fried, at least in his opinion.
"I have some antelope left from last night if you don't mind that it's been a little gnawed..." So it might not be the freshest meal, but it still had some juices left, enough to get him and another lion through the noon hours.. And since he hadn't seen anyone else out here for a little while, she seemed like a good possibility for some pleasant company.

As she approached she took in what he looked like. Dark, but even darker still was an interesting marking upon a foreleg. It intrigued her. She walked to the shade, as serrated as it was with the jagged faces of the rocks and took a place in the somewhat darkness of the day. Though she gave him some space, she did not want to crowd him as gracious as he was.
"Thank you, very kind of you to offer," she said with a smile, eyes focusing on his. They were green, and so vibrant. She had never seen such bright green eyes in the firekin before.
At mention of food, she tried to keep her stomach from making gurgling sounds, she shook her head lightly, "Only when you've had your fill, if and only then," she would never want to take more than what another needed. While she was a little older than he, he was young, and needed the food for strength and sustenance, more than she on this day.
"You've found a good spot, to hide from the sun, I only wish it would rain, even for a minute."

He smiled as she settled down beside him.The space wasn't overly big, but there was enough shade for two grown lions if they were cosy, so there was more than enough room for her and his adolescent self, even if he was close to her size, he was yet not as big as he would soon grow to be.
His green eyes, once a vivid acidic hue, the other darker like the imagined forests in the north, watched her calmly as she settle din the relative cool of the shadows. "As do we all.. rain of any kind would be most welcome right now... but I doubt that is going to happen any time soon." he glanced up at the cloudless sky, the heat waves making the world all around shimmering and slightly disorientating.
Nudging the meat over to her he smiled again, a reassuring expression. "I've had my fill already and it is too hot to eat so much... Please, if you don't take it, the insects will get to it soon... " He brushed away a bug that had been crawling over the sand between his paws as if to make a point. Ant-ridden dinner was never quite as pleasant as a fresh meal.

Watching intently, hi eyes were intriguing. Hers, she felt, were not so capturing or illusionary as some she had seen, even at a distance. She smiled at him and took bits from the meat delicately, as she was no so hungry to gorge herself, but hungry enough to tear in strips. If her thirst hadn't bothered her so much she wouldn't have taken to cracking a couple bones to get at marrow, but it felt good on her tongue.
Licking her lips she nudged the remnants towards him as if an offering in return, many bons still remaining. "The bones would be good to keep, even bured, if you get thirsty another day," she said with a nod. Silver eyes caught his, "I thank you -" and she left it at a question, so that he might introduce his name.
Before he might be able to speak, she watched his eyes again, ears perking forward, she focused on them, and smiled. "They remind me of stones I once saw...your eyes, they shine like them."

He settled back with a satisfied contentment as she finally accepted his offering, and watching her eat from the corner of his eye, he felt a certain satisfaction that he could provide another with some aid, even if it wasn't the water they all longed for.
Settling comfortably as he listened to her crunch bones he let his mind wander, feeling perfectly safe with her close by. He was not generally a mistrustful lion, even though the whole pride had been restless for some time now, what with the drought and the tales of the Nergui and then the latest invasion into neighboring pride lands. Yet he felt perfectly happy laying in the shade with her and when she nudged the remains back over, he turned and smiled at her, his emerald and moss green eyes bright with friendliness.
"Souzan.. " He offered immediately, his smile warming slightly, pleased she was interested in knowing who he was. His comparative youth sometimes got in the way but she seemed untroubled by it. Her next words though, made his smile turn bemused, though a soft chuckle escaped him. It was the first time anyone had... complimented him before, and he found he rather enjoyed the sensation, even if it did bring a slight warmth to his face that made him feel flushed. "Thank you.... I, have never seen them myself...." He chuckled again, this time dipping his head in slight embarrassing. Of course he hadn't seen his own eyes, he just hoped she didn't take his comment the wrong way. Looking back up at her his smile returned to its earlier warmth once again. "Your's are beautiful, like the moon on a cloudless night." It was true, he could gaze at the moon for hours and he found himself thinking he wouldn't mind gazing at her for hours either....

"Souzan then," she said with a nod. Her eyes watched his intently, and she looked to the sky, "if only it rained and water pooled so that you could see your own eyes. I'd think you'd find them rather fetching, it is so strange to think all the water is gone. I've traveled through places before with plenty of water that dampened your fur all day and night long you would become cold. The warmth is intoxicating, but grows to become too much if the water does not return."
As he complimented her, her eyes grew wide and she let them fall to the sand as she laughed and shook her head.
"I am so unlike the moon, Souzan. I am red with brazen design while the moon is pure of light, but thank you."
She rubbed her paws together in the sand and loked to the sky again.
"I wish I could call upon the sky to make it rain, even for one day for our pride, it would do everyone well, don't you think?"

He chuckled warmly at her comment, expression amused and still a little self-conscious. "I think if water fell, I would be more interested in drinking it than looking at myself." Smiling he turned to her as she denied her own beauty, more than happy to set her straight on the point. "Your eyes are made of moonlight, and I find your red coat very eye catching. Trust me, you could rival the moon for her beauty."
His expression sobered as the conversation turned to the ever present danger of the drought. He truly did not know how much longer they could hold out if the rains refused to come. It was all very well taking water from other prides, but it still left those too young, old or injured stuck in the heart of the desert without the life-giving liquid.
Sighing heavily he pushed his paw into the bone-dry dust of the desert sand. "I was born here, I have never known such dampness and I can't imagine it.. but I wouldn't mind a good storm right now." He agreed, lifting his paw and shaking the sand out of his toes idly. "Of course it would." He replied, nodding slowly. "I wonder..." He paused, knowing the topic he was about to bring up was a rather tricky one. "... would the Goddess be able to help us if she knew the pride was in trouble with this drought?"

Rellik pondered for a moment, and shrugged her shoulders. "I am unsure, I've heard of the old cultures here, the patron goddess, but I've never seen such a creature before, so I am unable to say. I would think, or hope, rather, that if there was something someone could do, immortal or mortal, one would do everything they could to aid the pride."
She took a moment to take a breath and began speaking once more, "we've proven we are able to adapt, able to work together and survive, I just hope that the sky allows rain to fall, the waters to return, so that some stress may be taken off of shoulders. The elderly and very young should not have to worry for water, neither should any other pride member."
That, she was certain.
"My hopes are the water will return before the nergui do anything further, we need to remain strong, and water can only help us do that."
