It's not just the fact that they are idiots, it's more that they are idiots who beleive that the world owes them everything.

Wow. Sexism isn't fully dead yet. I was trying to tell myself that maybe, just maybe, the human race and the western world was getting better at treating its womenfolk...then I read these, and my inner cowboyknight weeps profusely.

Shall we weep together then?

This is one of those rare threads that make me believe, if only for a moment, that Gaia isn't quite the bottom of the barrel of humanity I often imagine it to be. Stories like those above prove that there are far worse things going on around the the world.

I'm also sure that something I see in the forums within the next week will make me revisit this judgement and reject it out of hand.

You see, the simple fact of the matter is that while Gaia is a cesspool of ignorance and plebianism, we must realize that these trilobites are in fact OFFSPRING.

They have happy parents that have MADE THEM THIS WAY. Either by their actions or inactions.

And these folks sadly, being bears of very little brain, have very little to do to occupy themselves besides breeding.

It's a vicious cycle, and I find it's best not to think about it. To do so would eventually drive one mad.

World news is slowly becoming one huge depressing portalofevil link. For heaven's sake, PoE News used to link to the more amusing/horrible/depressing nuggets back in the day, nowadays they just link to the main news stories of the day for the evil.

Best thing is to do like that big african bird and bury one's head in the sand.

Fair warning: Lengthy rant ahead.

Ye Gods!

Somedays I wish that I could play ostrich and shove my beak in the sand. But the reality is, we are a society. Abdication of responsibility is the final unnamed sin we practice as a culture. It explains much of what has gone wrong with the world.

The best place we could consider starting is in how we educate our children from day one. That job lies with the parent(s) first and foremost. This requires hard choices long before the concept of becoming a parent arrives in the delivery room.

I've known far too many people who chose to ignore the economic reality of parenting. One couple had a single birth wind up costing them $30,000. That's just the hospital alone. One year later, they had their second child, with similar costs. I don't even want to try doing the many other variables that run up the bill along the way.

Folks, I don't have any children and don't plan on having any anytime soon. I just can't afford it, and I make a high five digit salary. My working theory is that once parents enter the illusion of parenthood, the thrill of the child blocks the reality of the sacrifices that they must make to fill the ever growing money hole the child rearing process creates. This includes the time one must spend creating a well rounded and emotionally stable child before the child enters the formal educational process.

I'm not against children. I'm not against parenthood. I just wish people would think a little more about every last detail before making that choice. Maybe the world would be a bit better off if every child were properly cared for in every way. Then perhaps we would not see conditions as extreme as those demonstrated above.

Rant over.
