High-functioning Counselor

 Dart had been spending more and more time alone lately. His daughter was growing up and spent more time working on her new life than hanging around him. He was felt bittersweet, mostly because he didn't know what to do with himself. Before she came along he had been so painstakingly shy that he hardly had met any others. But he was trying to keep himself more open these days. His daughter had taught him life could be wonderful.
With the dawning of Spring and the creeks and streams full of water from the snowmelt he felt even more resolute and making this a good year for himself. This morning he had wandered to a new stream, trying to branch out a little. It seemed a bit deeper than he was use to but he still waded in, letting the currents rush past his small legs and soak into his tail. He loved the sensation of the water rushing past him and soaking into his fine fur.
His familiar Adal did not care for the water the way he did so he had wandered off to find himself something to eat.

 Aqua was extremely happy. She loved when the snow melted. It meant that she could swim more and more! With a slight wiggle, getting a bit of the snow that had fallen off a tree onto her back off, she looked down at Darian and smiled toward the otter, eyes bright. He let out a pleased noise as well, before moving quickly toward the water, and diving into it, wiggling happily within the water. The nixie shifted quickly, looking at the water and nosed it some, her nose wiggling now from the coldness. It wouldn't bother her much, but she loved the feel of water against her skin.
So, with another little wiggle, the mare stepped into the water, her body shivering from cold and excitement. She moved quickly, getting into the deepest part, and ducked herself in, loving it more and more. She swam a bit, loving the current, until something darker popped into her field of view. Stopping her movements, Aqua lifted her head to peer at the stallion, blinking curiously. The only real interaction she had was with her mate, Shocker, who was back at their little home. Darian on the other hand, swam up toward the stallion, and stood up on his hind legs, letting out small squeaks and noises to say hello to him.

Dart was swishing his tail about in the water when her heard the noise of something swimming up on him. He was scared to look and see what it was. He wished that Adal hadn't wandered off he always felt safer with the wolf around. He needed to be strong now though. He couldn't run off at every little sound. So he resolved himself to turn around and confront what was swimming up on him.
When he turned around he saw the little otter right next too him as it started squeaking at him. Dart was surprised to see the creature so close and he jumped back when it squeaked at him. He knew the otter wasn't going to harm but he couldn't help his reaction. After a few seconds he collected himself again and leaned down to the otter. "Hello there, you scared me," He said letting out a nervous laugh.
Dart had yet to notice the mare, being too engrossed in the otter and his surprise.

 Darian let out a few more small squeaks, his tail swaying some, before he reached up and pawed at the stallions face some, as if trying to pat him. He dropped down on all fours and did a slight spin, before splashing some. It was obvious the little otter wanted to play, having not done so within a couple days. He shifted lightly, before clapping his little paws together. It was then that Aqua got up and started to move forward slowly, happy to see the stallion wasn't a mean one and wouldn't hurt her little companion.
"Hi~ That's Darian, he likes to play games!" Aqua said, hoping she didn't startle him, and made sure to stay a bit off so that she didn't in fact do so. She smiled toward him, trying to seem friendly, her little fish like tail wiggling some, ears perked up.

Dart found the little otter amusing. He leaned into the familiar's pats. Dart smiled as the otter splashed around a spun. "You sure are a playful one," he said as he swished his tail, flicking water towards the otter.
Out of the corner of his eye Dart caught the sight of another Soquili the same size as him. He took in her features. She seemed to have spines along her back and a tail that seemed to be made for the water. Dart had met one mutant his size before and figured she must be another mutant.
Dart unconsciously backed up a little as the mare got closer. He tried to tell himself everything was alright. The mare had such a friendly familiar that she must be of a good nature. His eyes shifted quickly off of her when she spoke and he looked to the ground. "Hello," He said nervously. "I'm Dart."
He turned his focus back to the otter and continued to watch him as he tried to play.

Aqua's eyes flickered happily. She smiled, tail swaying a bit within the water that was under her. Well at least the male wasn't mean! Darian let out a small squeak of approval, before diving under the shallow water and swimming back to move around Aqua's feet. The mare let out a small laugh, before looking back up toward Dart. She smiled warmly at him, her ears perking up, eyes light. "Hello, Dart~ My name is Aqua. It seems that Darian likes you!" She commented, smiling and letting out a light laugh before looking back up at him.
The mare moved forward, water seeming to flick up against her little legs, but then drip down. It was as if her fur was water proof, much like the otter that swam around her. She tilted her head some, staring up at the stallion for a second, before smiling some and shook out body, her mane moving very little from the net that held it. "Wanna play a game?" She asked, her eyes hopeful.

Dart continued to keep his focus on Darian, for some reason he felt more comfortable with the otter. Aqua's laughing seemed to help him relax a little, but he still kept firmly planted where he was. He was glad that the little otter seemed to like him, it made it easier for him to interact.
He shifted a little in response to the mares question. A game sounded like something fun, but he wasn't sure what it was or how to play one.
"Um..Aqua...um...I don't...um...know how," he said hesitantly. He didn't want to come off the wrong way. He was hoping the mare wouldn't write him off and would maybe show him how these things worked. He never really learned how to have fun, so the idea was foreign to him, but also he was curious about it.

Aqua smiled toward the stallion, her little aquatic tail wagging. She was happy to find someone to play with! But when he mentioned he didn't know how, her tail stopped it's movements. How could he not know how to play?! Everyone knew how! Pursing her lips some, the mare tilted her head to the side, befre she shifted forward and nodded her head. If that was the case, she'd help him out more than she knew! She would totally be able to teach him how to play tag! It was easy!
"Hm? You don't know how? That's okay! I can teach you how!" She said happily, before moving toward him and stood beside him. "Okay, so the name of the game is tag! What we'll do, is I'll tag you with my nose, or just kinda tap you, and then run away. And you have to chase me, and try to tag me or tap me back! And after that, we switch, and then I'll chase you. So it's a back and forth thing." She said, nodding her head, before she shifted, and tapped him on the shoulder with her nose. "Tag~" She said happily. And within seconds, Aqua was trotting away from him, giggling happily.

He got a little nervous that she was going to walk away from him because he didn't know how to play, especially when she stopped swishing her tail and pursed his lips. But he quickly became relieved when she said she would teach him.
Aqua made him smile. Her enthusiasm and joy seemed to be contagious and he couldn't help but feel a bit happy. Dart flicked his ears forward listening intently on how to play he didn't want to miss anything she said.
He was still focused how how to play when the Aqua tapped him. He jumped started....and than watched her run off. He was so shaken he was confused at what actually was happening and he forgot to chase her. He just stared at her confused.

Aqua blinked, her eyes flickering, before she stopped and looked over her shoulder. Her tail swayed slightly, before she giggled and turned to face him, head held up some, before she let out a soft call to get him to follow. "Come on Dart, chase me!" She shouted, grinning, before turning and dashing down part of the stream, her hooves splashing up water as she went.
Darian let out a pleased squeaking noise, before pushing at Dart's legs gently. He smiled, clapping his little paws, before diving into the stream, and slid after Aqua, his tail acting as a sort of rudder to get him going.

"Oh..um...ok," Dart said. He starting worrying about slipping and falling in the water. He wasn't made for the water like Aqua was. He watched her slide through the water with ease. He lifted his front hoof feeling the current. Maybe it won't be so bad he told himself, he had walked in the water before and even slipped and righted himself with ease.
Just has he was getting the courage to chase her he felt the otter nudging him to go. "Ok...this is fun right?" He said to the Darian. With that he drew from his courage and chased after Aqua. A little slow and unsteady at first, but he was doing it. He felt proud of himself for taking those steps and with the happiness he forgot about his worries in the first place.

Aqua was like a fish in the water. She moved gracefully, and her little body easily maneuvered throughout the stream. But, she had to remember that Dart was a normal Mini. He wasn't able to move like she did. So, she slowed herself, and peeked over her shoulder, watching from over her shoulder for a second. She smiled a bit, wiggling her tail, before lurching forward again. She enjoyed this. Playing and acting like a child. It was some of the best times she ever had. Flicking an ear, she moved downstream, and toward a place she knew he would have better footing.
Darian stared up at the creature, grinning. He nodded his head easily, letting out a playful noise, before diving under the water, and caught up with Aqua. Together they ran, and played with the blue stallion, giggling as they moved.

Dart was getting comfortable moving around in the water and getting his hooves to hold on the rocks below, the streams current helping him to move faster after Aqua. He had forgotten all his worries now and was concentrating solely on the game. "This is fun," he said for the first time in his life. He had never really had fun before. Even when his daughter was a foal he was more worried then able to have fun with her, hoping he was doing things right and that she wouldn't get hurt. This was very different. He had been able to let go of his worries and felt free.
He kept chasing her and Darian around in the stream for a little while before he finally came close enough to touch her. He felt himself almost there that he leaned his neck out as far as possible hoping to touch her with his nose. His face filled with pure determination.

Just keep running!
Aqua smiled happily as she moved. She loved this; loved the adrenaline and the feel of the water against her legs and belly. It was like everything she had ever wanted. After all, who wouldn't want to run to the point that they were breathless. Who wouldn't want to feel the water and the air against their bodies? So long as it was in fun, she saw no real reason not to fully enjoy herself. Wiggling her nose lightly, the mare let out a gleeful whinny, before turning around the bed of the shallow river. Beside her Daria let out squeaks and noises of joy and fun. The otter wiggled slightly, his fur repelling the water, but he didn't care. He was enjoying himself far too much!
The Nixie shifted once more, pausing for a moment to look back over her shoulder. And just as she did, she realized how close Dart really was. Letting out a surprised, yet fun filled, scream, the mare surged forward again, her hair only held in place by the net that held it up. Joy was once more etching through her. She very much so enjoyed this; and she was certain he was too, by the exclamation he had stated just a few moments ago. Though she was being chased, she knew it was all in good fun, and it had nothing to do with being in danger or possibly being harmed. She let out a gleeful whinny once more, before feeling her breath leaving her too quickly for her own good. If she wasn't careful, she wouldn't be able to breath at all!
Just as the thought passed through her mind, she felt something press against her flank. He had tagged her! That stallion had actually caught up and tagged her as if it was nothing more than a quick and easy jog. She let out a giggle. "Good job!" She said, nodding her head gleefully, before turning to sway her tail some. She faced him, all grins and happy laughter, before tilting her head to the side, bright eyes locked on him. "Now it's my turn to chase you! I'll give you a head start, since we're both stopped; so you better run fast! Till ten! One..." The mare grinned, flexing her legs some as if she was ready to spring right that second. "Twooooo~... Threeeee~" She could feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins agian. She was so ready to start running; to start chasing him. It was her turn, right? Darian squeaked at her side, clapping his hands together, before tilting his head toward the stallion. It was his turn, right?
The otter grinned, before starting down the water way again. He'd get a head start, that's for sure! He wanted to play to, and so he would. Aqua peered toward her friend for a moment, before giggling at his antics, and turned her eyes back toward the stallion before her. "Fouuuuuuuuuuur." She chanted, half teasingly toward him.

Dart was so determined to catch Aqua that her little scream of startle didn't phase him. Normally his anxiety and fear from such a thing would have stopped him dead in his tracks. But he had a goal and everything else seemed to not matter at all.
His determination finally paid off as he felt his nose brush Aqua's flank. He stopped and caught his breath. He felt proud at that moment. Dart was not really one to work towards goals. He meandered about trying his best to survive in the world and keep his daughter safe. But accomplishing such a little task made him feel really confident in himself and what he could do.
Even though he was more confident he still didn't find himself wanting to show it. "Thanks," he said humbly. His worries started to creep back in a little. He didn't want to offend the mare and started to feel a little bad about actually tagging her because maybe that meant she lost.
Before Dart's worries could go too far she told him it was her turn to chase. "Oh!" He exclaimed with surprise. He had thought the game was over. She started counting and he looked around a little flustered but also filled with excitement. He needed to decide which way to run and fast. The mare was faster than him in the water and he would need the head start.
He heard her say three and with that he ran towards the bank of the stream. He decided to take the game out of the water. He thought that would maybe give him a greater chance too. He got to the land and looked back to see if she was chasing him yet. He shook his coat quickly and then darted off.
