Sailor Virtus, Senshi of Kindness, had not been on the scene for a little bit.
it wasn't for fear, as he had a very hard time feeling that kind of emotion. And that wasn't bravado. No, his lack of fear came from his faith in things always getting better. In history not repeating because he was supposed to learn from it. He was a good young man, and a happy one. He wanted things to be good and calm and smooth, and he just wanted to serve his Queen properly.
He would be a good senshi for her, and for the others. He would learn how to do his job properly, how they told him to do it, because he had to.
He couldn't afford to get himself hurt again and again, he knew that. He couldn't trust the white moon blindly because they were mean, he had learned that as well. No, he had to be careful, and he had to be wiser. Not meaner, not angry or out looking for fights, but certainly not as open and naive.
As if he could consciously stop being naive. But in this, at least, he had to try.
Tonight he was on patrol in a downtown, slummy area, looking for some targets to drain energy from. He remembered his lessons and knew to focus on easier ones. It would be better for him, anyway. Maybe sleeping people, homeless ones. They were sad and he pitied them, but at least when they were asleep they would never notice the missing energy, and would restore it while they rested.
That was what he thought happened, anyway, and that was a comfort.

Now that she had wings on her lower back, she figured, she didn’t have to stay in the park as much anymore. She was an eternal, and of course that meant…she got to do more awesome things. Chibi Lenka was out on a patrol, looking over her shoulder every few minutes, making sure there weren’t any bad guys around…and, making sure there were no civilian bad guys around either. Her mom always warned her of strangers, and this seemed like a place that would be infested with strangers.
She kept moving, and looking around, then let out a quiet gasp when she felt the bad guy…feeling. It was a street over, or something…and this was her chance to really prove herself!
Lenka moved to the other edge of the street, then made a running leap onto one of the buildings separating the two streets. She did a small victory dance for jumping so high, then jumped down, some few feet in front of Virtus. “Halt, evil doer. I am Sailor Chibi Lenka, and I will stop you in all of your evil ways. Prepare to be watermelon’d!”
Sure, not the best phrasing, she figured. But it would get the point across.

Virtus nearly leaped out of his skin at the voice. What was he doing, not paying attention to the auras around him? He shook his head and decided he would chastise himself later. Probably not, actually, as he was not good at telling anyone off, least of all himself.
He looked at the senshi, and realized very quickly that she was small.
Very small.
"Oh! Aren't you cute!" he couldn't help it. Kids were adorable. And this one was shouting at him about being an evil doer and clearly this was some kind of game she was playing with him. It was so cute, he thought his head would explode. But that aura... he realized slowly that it couldn't be faked. She wasn't just playing Dress Up Like a Senshi.
She really was one!
"Watermeloned? I don't want to be that. Whatever that is. Ah. I'm just trying to get some energy, I promise I'm not hurting anyone. Maybe you should go home? It's late, and you should... probably be in bed?"

Go home? Be in bed! Nonsense! She was a super hero, and a strong one now, she was super strong! Eternal! She shook her head and waggled her finger at Virtus. “Now now. Don’t go being rude! I’m a senshi and it’s my job to stop bad guys like you from hurting people. Do you know that they can die from you taking their energy! You’re a terrible person, and I’m gonna stop you, and then you’ll never hurt anyone again.”
She summoned her watermelon rind to prove her point. This guy…he was like Remarque and those other bad guys. She would have to really be on her guard around him—she didn’t want to be shoved over again!
“Now, stay where you are, or just go home. Stop hurting these innocent people! Or else!” She hoped he would find her intimidating, at the very least intimidating. She did have wings on her butt now, after all. She was a force to be reckoned with!

Was he being rude? Oh dear.
He smiled and nodded his head. So she was as dedicated as the other senshi were. Clearly she was going through some rigid training, to make her so loyal and dedicated. It was admirable, if not a little disturbing. Was he really going to have to fight a little kid?
Oh God, he would feel terrible for a week.
But he had been told to do what he needed to do. And if she was going to stop him from draining the energy he needed, he was going to have to stop her in return.
"I'm sorry little girl! I have to get this energy, and I can't let you or anyone else stop me! I really don't want to make you my enemy but I have to finish my rounds! Sorry!" He took a run at her, hoping she'd pull back and away and he wouldn't actually have to push by her.

For a moment, Lenka was about to be very happy. He apologized! But…oh no…now he was running at her. She shook her head, scowling. “You’re as much of a bully as Remarque is! Lenka Binding Boomarind!” She threw the rind in her hand as hard as she could, hoping that it would hit him and bind around his arms…maybe then he would fall over, since he was running!
Things like that happened in the cartoons, at least. And who said that life couldn’t be like a cartoon? “You’re gonna learn your lesson someday, and maybe today’ll be the day you know!”
She hated bullies…she really did…and all of these guys with the black tops were just…mean! Maybe not all of the…all of the bad guys were mean, like…like Carn…carneli…whatever his name was. He was nice. But…everyone else…they were just bullies!

She knew Remarque?
Obviously not very well. He was a very helpful senshi, and Virtus had learned a lot from him. He certainly was not a bully, and Virtus was certain that he, the Senshi of Healing, was not one either.
He just had to seem like one, for now, to do what his Queen and teammates had asked him to. His duty lay with them, and even if he did have some issues with things personally he did not let that get in the way because he knew, in the end, it was for the greater good.
Someday, they would all understand one another, and it would be fine.
"I'm not mean!" he yelped in surprise, though he could see why she would think that, poor thing. He would prove to her one day. Obviously not today. He toppled when the watermelon attack connected, mostly out of his own surprise that she had such an attack. He had never really been on the receiving end of senshi magic, save once and he had already been badly beaten up at that point.
So it was a bit of a blur, and he had all but forgotten to be mindful of the magic.

Lenka let out a cheer and gave a little hop of joy when the attack connected…AND when he fell over. So. Cartoons could tell the truth. She would have to let her mom know that someday. She knew that the watermelon rind didn’t hold one’s arms to their side for too long, so she walked over to Virtus, looking down at him. “Do you give up, Mr. Bully Man? Good guys always win, even if it looks like they’re gonna lose.”
She had won this battle, right? He was on the ground…she had beaten him all on her own. Ohh…********* would be proud of her for this.
“I’m sorry I pushed you down, but…but you can’t keep taking people’s energy. It’s just wrong.” She wanted to show that she wasn’t a bully…and that she just wanted him to know that it was bad! Clearly, he must be at least a little bit of a good guy…if he was trying to say he wasn’t mean…so, so she shouldn’t be mean too.

Virtus looked at the little senshi, torn. No one had prepared him for this. He had been told he would need to fight senshi, even when he didn't want to, but this was not on that battle plan and he was just not sure.
He wished someone was there to tell him what to do! Navi or one of the others; they would know and he would listen.
"I'm afraid I have to do what I'm told, and you have to do what you're told! But we can be friends some day, I promise you that! Just not today. I'm really, really, really, really, really, really."
this was going to go on for a while.
Quite a few really's later, Virtus leaped up and shoved into Lenka to push her down and away from him. There, he'd fought her. He could accept that as a truth. He just needed to get away from her without actually doing any damage or calling his wraith. He just did not have the heart. Or he had too much heart.
"really, really sorry!" His efforts to say he wasn't mean were dashed, but he got up and ran away to avoid having to do anything else. He just hoped she didn't follow.

One moment Lenka was celebrating her assured victory, the next she was on the ground. Again. What was it with all of these stupid bad guys and pushing her to the ground? It wasn’t fair! She jumped up and felt her mouth fall open as…
“You’re running away? You coward! You…You’re just afraid of me…well…well I’ll show you why you should be afraid of me! I’ll show you!” Lenka cried, summoning her watermelon rind. She threw it, as hard as she could and cried out, “Lenka Full body rind!” She could have broke into song when the rind hit the dark mirror senshi in the back, then curled around his arms, then after a moment, began to branch out, until Virtus was encased in a watermelon rind that went from his feet all the way to enclose his head.
Lenka ran up, knowing she didn’t have long before the attack wore off…her super attack only lasted a few seconds after all. She paused in back of the encased Virtus. “Bad guys who push me down…will always, ALWAYS become watermelons, so…so stop being bad and go home!” The chibi senshi ran then, ran as fast as her legs could carry her, not wanting to be there when Virtus came out of his shell.

He wasn't afraid of her, but having to hurt her! If only she would understand that, it would make his night a lot easier for him, certainly. Why couldn't they ever see that he was just not someone to hurt anyone else unless he HAD to? Why did they all make him HAVE to?
But he would.
Because he was the kind of guy who always did what he had to do.
He was very confused when he was suddenly not running, and encased in something... very strange. It did not last too long, though for it coming out of no where and not being welcomed it was far longer than he would have liked, and when it broke away he was standing alone.
She'd made him a watermelon? What an interesting attack! And she had run off, which was great. He just had to go home now, and things would be fine for the rest of the night. Or he could even continue his patrol! Somewhere else... so he didn't run into that little senshi again.
