A smell of musty leather filled the stallion's nose as he took a small huff of air. The contraption strapped to his face definitely did not make for optimal breathing; he got such little oxygen sometimes it made him light-headed. He stood silently beside the brook close to his sister's teepee, swiveling his ears and squinting his eyes at everything. Without his sense of smell, he was often left more vulnerable than he was comfortable with.
Overhead and through the trees, the sky was gray. A miserable drizzle that seemed to have lasted for weeks continued on, saturating everything on its way down from the clouds. Wallace hated the rain, as it made his hair stick to his face in an odd manner and sometimes dripped into his muzzle, making it even harder to breathe. The oddly loud babble of the brook drowned every other noise, and he blamed that on the precipitation, too. For now, all the massive stallion had was his sight. He stood there, hating every second of it.

Eury tip toed along on the fronts of her hooves, trying to avoid letting her fetlocks get even more dirty than they already had become from the muddy banks of the overflowing steam. Her black and white fur was soaked and her wings were tightly pinned at her sides. Her usually silky mane was coarse and her ringlets were no longer tightly wounds in perfection but lie limp and wavy. Droplets of water clung to the smooth ivory and crimson petals in her hair and around her neck. Her crimson eyes gleamed as she followed the stream, heading back up towards the mountains from whence she had ventured. Usually the mare would prefer to spread her wings and take flight because it required less effort than hiking back up the mountain and because it made the journey much more swift. With the rolling clouds looming overhead though she dared not fly and risk landing upon slippery rocks or other misfortunes.
Her mane clung to her face and the winds pushed the strands into her eyes. Groaning, the mare flipped her wet forelock away and peering ahead she caught sight of vibrant shade of green and white standing out from the scenery. Curious as to who she may be encountering she came within ten feet or so of the stallion, studying his marking and features with interest. "Why hello there," she began in a eloquent tone, "I wasn't expecting to find anyone else out in the rain. I don't really much care for it..." She tilted her head ever so slightly, hoping the stallion would catch her words over the gushing water.

Wallace continued to glance around, his joints aching from the constant cold and water. He shook his leathery wings, attempting to remove some of the moisture dripping from them. The stallion swiveled his ears, still unable to hear anything but the rushing water of the brook before him. Although it was loud and obnoxious, it also seemed to soothe the beast. For a moment, he allowed his eyes to close and thought of what life could be without his muzzle.
The voice seemed much more shrill than it actually was, and it would have jumped the stallion had he not been expecting something to happen. Something always happened. Being alone just didn't seem to be an option for him. A quick glance at the mare made him think it was his mother for a moment. But no, it could not have been, for she was dead. He had done it, and he reminded himself every day until it felt as if it were a trick of his imagination. He really didn't know if he had devoured the defenseless mare anymore. Silently, he turned his head toward Eury. His eyes were narrowed and pierced the air. Of course, he spoke no words. He just stood there.

Eury waited for a reply, but received none. The mare furrowed her eyebrows with a scowl, and the long black strands of her tail flicked in annoyance. She took a few steps closer to the stallion, taking in his appearance. Her eyes traveled down from the shining bright green orbs, to the braided locks of his mane, the leathery wings sprouting from his back and then to the demon tail. "What?" She inquired, the scowl still residing on her face, "Don't feel-" like replying?; but the final words never escaped her lips which hung in a small oval, unable to close as the mare's expression changed from that of a light contempt to curiosity. Eury's eyes were transfixed on the contraption covering the stallion's snout; made of black leather and studded with small squares of metal, she was barely able to distinguish the straps traveling up his cheeks from his dark fur. Numerous rain drops fell upon her face and back as she stood without motion, still attempting to process the unusual condition of the stallion.
She wondered if the device simply made the stallion's voice harder to comprehend than normal, or if it completely rendered him unable to talk. Feeling that this was a tender subject the mare really didn't know how to handle such; she was never good with... peculiar situations. Taking a few steps closer she decided there would be no harm in talking to the stallion; even if he couldn't reply he could still respond with gesticulations from his body. "My name is Eury..." She began softly, though she suspected her words would be buried within the dripping of the rain upon the ground. Unfortunately the clouds seemed to grow thicker as they stood there, teeming with moisture. Coughing, she decided to be a bit louder, hoping he would hear her and give her some sort of indication that he was listening. "Should we perhaps find shelter under some trees?" She questioned, looking around, trying to distinguish their surroundings. "Or a cave... something." Eury's eyes held the gaze of the stallion, waiting.

He stood in silence, and only rolled his eyes when the mare questioned him. His keen sense of hearing definitely helped in these conditions. Feel like what, he'd have liked to snap back at her. Taking you home for a tasty snack? In reality, the meat of other Soquili made the half-kalona ill. Whether it was physical or mental would remain a mystery for the rest of his days. As the mare eyed him, Wallace sized her up in return. Her interest in his muzzle was obvious, but he tried to ignore it. He always tried to ignore the device and the attention it brought.
Having finished looking over the water logged mare, the stallion began to look down at his own condition. His hair was stuck to his face, the braid which hung by his legs was dripping wet, and his fetlocks were dragging even further onto the ground, becoming covered in mud and tangled. He sighed, knowing what a pain it would be to get all of this fixed. But above all, he noticed the missing flower from his mane. The seemingly hard stallion was crushed, but looked back up at the mare when she spoke again. Stiff and achy from the moisture and lack of movement, Wallace turned around and sauntered into the forest, half expecting the mare to take it as a no. He secretly wished she'd follow.

Eury watched the stallion turn away from her, unsure whether he just intended to avoid her company or if he were agreeing with her and finding a spot where they were less likely to become even more wet. Though at this point, Eury doubted that it would help in the least since she was drenched to the bone. She stood in silence, watching his hooves sink into the muddy terrain with a squelching sound with every step as he sunk in and then pulled his legs free again. After he was a slight distantance away she quickly trotted a few steps then again descended her pace to a walk, following the retreating stallion. She looked past him to where he was headed and noticed the impending edge of the forest and the tall pines that would shield their heads.
She sighed a little, hoping the stallion would lead her to a nice quiet place within the forest where the rain would be nothing more than a whisper looming in the background.

A small smile creeped onto the stallion's covered mouth as he looked back to find the mare following him. Company was hard to come by, especially when you looked the way he did and seemed to be dangerous enough to warrant a muzzle. But Wallace was harmless enough. He tucked his wings close to his body when they reached the forest. The change in the rain's volume was tremendous almost immediately. Not long after they had begun walking, the hybrid decided he didn't want to anymore. Just like that. He simply stopped in a spot crowded with trees, turned himself back around in a peculiar manner, and stared at the mare, wondering what would come from her lips next.

Eury stopped a few paces away from the stallion, glad to be under the cover of the branches above. She stared at the stallion, unsure of what she should say to him, though she honestly felt as if conversation was unnecessary. The mare was to be in the company of another; it had certainly been a long time since she had ventured away from her teepee and encountered another. Also, even though the stallion was part kalona, which she had determined from his wings and tail, and she knew that some would be afraid to be in their presence, she was unfazed by his breed. She had encountered some before and none had ever given her a hard time. Apparently she had only ever had the pleasure to make the acquaintance of the less violent blood lines.
"I love the purple flower in your mane," She informed him in a soft voice, almost hoping that the stallion wouldn't hear her and think she was a weak female for enjoying flowers. She had noticed the large violet petals as the stallion had turned to head into the forest. In the back of her mind Eury wondered whether if the stallion had noticed the petals that adorned her mane and tail and if he were at all interested in exotic flowers. Surely hers were special, as the only grew on a small island in tropical temperatures. "Also your necklace is very unique and interesting..." Her voice trailed off, wondering if were appropriate to use the word "necklace" when referring to the chain around his neck. She had discovered that usually males didn't like to be connected with wearing anything that may be considered feminine. She wasn't sure what the graying smooth stone like amulet attached to the chain was, yet she appreciated it's uniqueness nonetheless.

Wallace stared blankly at the mare, huffing for a breath or two beneath his muzzle. He wondered why she was completely unafraid, and how she would react had she known that he could remove the muzzle on his own. Perhaps the muzzle comforted others. Without his mouth, he was less likely to attack someone, purely due to the lack of oxygen his body was receiving. He'd probably just act like an a** anyway.
The stallion felt quite a bit of relief when he was informed he'd only lost one of his flowers instead of both. He had brought his mother's plant with him from a Kalona territory in the mountains when he came to these lands, and it seldom produced flowers. His half sister's two-legger cared for it inside the teepee, so it could blossom year round. In an attempt to show his appreciation for her adornments, Wallace nudged the flower beside her ear more firmly into place. He then tried to look down at his necklace, having no idea what it was. It was just something else the two-legger had strapped onto him.

Eury was uncertain what the stallion was doing when his face grew closer to the side of her head and she felt the cold leather of the muzzle pass along her ear. Then she realized her white and crimson flower on her head must have come lose from her mane due to the weather and the awful shape her hair was in. Really, this weather was so inappropriate for someone who prided themselves in their appearance. Eury adored her silky mane and was displeased when it was anything less than perfection. She realized how much of a mess she must seem to this stallion.
"Thanks..." a small voice escaped her mouth, surprised by the stallion's generosity. She wondered what to do next; it seemed difficult to keep up a conversation with one who had their mouth completely covered. "Is it at all bothersome to wear that?" She inquired, knowing the stallion would know what she meant by "that" and hoping that he would not be offended by her impetuousness.

Wallace sighed beneath the muzzle and nodded at her question before caving. He turned his head toward his side, and using the hooked horn perched upon the joint of his wing, he tugged at the strap that held the leather contraption tight to his face. The snap broke free with ease, and the muzzle fell to the ground. Immediately, the stallion gasped for air, trying to catch his breath from hours of being bound. "Please don't be upset with me, miss. And don't be scared, I won't hurt you. You see, my sister's two-legger puts that thing on me so I won't hurt anyone. I can take it off, but I can't put it back on... But yes, it's very bothersome."

Eury watched as the stallion tilted his head down to his shoulder, tugging off the muzzle with a 'click' of the snaps as the contraption separated. "Well at least you are able to remove it, that's convenient." She reasoned, watching it fall to the ground with a light thud. The mare pondered why the stallion didn't remove it sooner, yet decided it was better not to push the issue and risk an argument over such a trivial matter. She wasn't disgruntled in the least, on the contrary she was beaming inside; delighted that the stallion felt comfortable enough to remove the muzzle to confabulate with her.
"You? Hurt me?" She began with a slight smirk. "Why would you ever want to do such a thing." A giggle escaped her. "Besides, if I felt threatened I would take to the sky. I hate to sound overconfident but my wings carry my quite swiftly on the winds." Despite the fact that the stallion was part kalona he didn't seem to be much of a threat... up to this point. "Do you wear it most of the time then?" Eury wondered if the stallion carried it with him back to the two-legger once he had pried it off his mouth or if were like a cat and slipped out of the collar whenever possible and tried to make sure it were to never be found and snapped around their neck once more.
It was at this point this point the mare remembered she could demand questions out of the stallion, include the most basic and most appropriate thing to ask another when you first make their acquaintance. "Will you tell me your name?" A genuine smile tugged at the corners of her lips, her crimson eyes staring up into his bright green orbs.

Wallace slid his spaded tail between the two pieces of leather that made up the strap and used his mouth to pull it up over the spade so it sat like a cover and did not fill with water. The last thing he'd want was to have it put back on drenched with moisture. Surely it'd chafe his already tender cheeks even further. "Well, it's not quite convenient as it'd seem. I can remove it, but I cannot put it back on. Leaving home with the muzzle on and returning without it would probably cause the two-legger to hook a better fastening device to it." He breathed deeply. It had been ages since the stallion could embrace the smell of a forest after new rain.
The stallion raised a brow at the much smaller mare. He had been slouching and tucking his wings in to appear smaller, so to prove a point, he stood up straight, puffed his chest out, and spread his massive bat-like wings. "Well you never know. With all this Kalona blood raging in me, I just might snap." Wallace tucked his wings back to his sides and deflated his chest, but remained standing straight. It was bad on his poor old joints to try to be bent like that all the time. "But we'll save that for a time when it's warranted. And honestly? It's nearly never warranted." He only grinned at the mare talking about her flying ability. With his big, powerful wings that had to resistance from feathers, he knew he could catch her if she'd fled. Perhaps he'd make a game out of it some time. "Whenever I'm near the teepee, I must. Well... It's not that I must, it's that the two-legger tries to shoo me whenever I don't. It's afraid that I'm going to hurt the others there. She'll take it off to let me feed every now and then, but I've gone for days there without food or drink." The thought made him frown a little bit.
"Oh, yes, of course! My apologies. I am Wallace. What may I call you, Miss? Unless Miss suits you just fine, of course." He chuckled a little bit at himself, something he hadn't been able to do for ages.

Eury hadn't thought of this and was overwhelmed by a sense of guilt by the stallion's predicament. "You shouldn't have taken it off at your own expense for me if it will get you into trouble to return without it properly fastened on." She chuckled at the stallion, amused by his demeanor. "Well I'll take my chances. Besides, you could use your pent up Kalona rage to break out of a more secure muzzle if the two-legger decides that you need something that they think provides more... restraining power." A pang of remorse lingered in her mind, she wished no worse of a situation for the stallion especially since he had taken his muzzle off so that they would be able to confabulate without the leather barrier.
The slender black mare watched at the stallion puffed himself up, standing a few feet over her at his actual height. Still she brushed his prowess off; she was not one to be easily swayed in her opinion of things. "Well I don't blame her for urging you away," She began, running her eyes over the stallion. "You seem positively dangerous. Ferociousness is simply oozing out of your bright stripes." An innocent tone laced with light sarcasm escaped her lips.
"It's very nice to make your acquaintance Wallace. My name is Eury, and I'd prefer it if you called me Eury rather than miss." The mare smiled pleasantly at the stallion, glad that they were now properly introduced to one another.
