Eva and Otto would both receive early in the morning a relatively straightforward cell phone text:
There had been a mishap earlier the week with a certain Sun division leader who shall remain nameless bursting through several off the walls, the result: extensive damage repairs forced to be made in a relatively short period of time.
The other result was that all the proper room names were entirely mis-numbered and lettered. Take room 201B for example. There was no 201B, according to the label, but there was however, an open door in which a certain Death Division leader of the non wall-damaging variety (usually, unless it was Monday or involved the word 'Robert') was seated perusing a set of nearly unreadable photocopied glyphs.

The received text was met with a grunt and possible tossing of the cell phone across a room. It wasn't ignored, but it wasn't met with any semblance of appreciation. Another mission? After the last one Otto was less than ready for another. However, this was why he was here. Do the work, that's all.
With another groan, cuss and roll out of bed, Otto got himself somewhat presentable.
The next ten to twenty minutes were spent looking for a non existant room. Otto was about ready to call it a prank and begin researching a way to kill the perpetrator without arousing suspicions. However, peeking into a room, he spotted a certain Division Leader responsible for the text. Well, he guessed this must be 201B.
What threw Otto off? He was the first one here. The only one here? Who else got the text? It wasn't just him, was it? Otto stepped inside uncertainly, feeling a bit anxious being alone with his Division Leader.

Fortunately for Otto, he was not left alone for long. Upon receiving the text, Eva grudgingly tossed the book she had been reading onto her bed, getting up from her desk chair. Another mission already? She supposed that they had to move on, but it seemed too soon to her. It was the first time since she had woken up here that she saw someone die during a mission, and what was worse was that she had been right there--right there. She had been close enough to watch, but not to save them. If only--
Eva. Chara was clearly attempting to keep her voice patient, but the sigh that followed betrayed the fact that she was starting to get tired of this. This moping and self-pity had been going on for far too long, frankly. Strange as it was to say it, the weapon missed Eva's obnoxiously loud and bright attitude.
A part of the Chara hoped that this mission of Caelius' would help smack the girl's mind back on track (unless he preferred Eva's silence over her enthusiasm, which would not surprise her in the least).
The girl dressed quickly, her coat tied firmly around her waist as she made her way out and towards the designated place. As she passed the rooms, she looked up to examine the doorplates...and promptly froze, backtracking a few steps. Wait what? Some of the labels, she realized, didn't make any sense at all. Numbers were out of order, as were letters, and after some more searching, she came to the conclusion that room 201B apparently did not exist.
Fortunately, as she did another round, she somehow managed to find herself in front of an open door. A quick peek inside determined that Caelius and Otto were both present and, hoping that this was indeed the right place, she slipped in.
"Good morning."

The entirely awkward silence as a certain Death division leader simply ignored them only reaffirmed that perhaps they had gotten the wrong room. This continued on for a good minute.
It wasn't until a solid five minutes later that Caelius even paused for a single second, re-organizing the papers in his hand before turning to stare at the two trainees as if they had done something wrong before they even started. "Your promotion mission will begin shortly. In the meanwhile, I have some work that should be simple enough for even trainees to fulfill." He passed a small stack of mission reports, simply placing them on the corner of the table for one of the two to pick up. "I would like these reports filed by their exact date of submission, from earliest to most recent. After you are done, we will begin your actual promotion mission."
It seemed surprisingly tame that Caelius was just asking trainees to do paperwork, but really, who was complaining? Upon picking up the pile, they would notice that most of the mission reports were actually recent reports filed by trainees. Report 1 Deus Ex Machina Mission Report Form Name: Bix Date: March 14, 2012 Division: Sun Status: Intermediate Trainee Mission ranking: External Mission Status of mission: Success - Acquired weapons tablets and returned them to Deus Ex. Additional points of extreme importance: Lost Barney and Sandy to the labyrinth. Commendations or warnings: N/A I agree that by signing this, all information above is accurate and can be used for or against me: BIX Report 2 Deus Ex Machina Mission Report Form Name: Infinity Wynaero Date: March 15, 2012 Division: Sun Status: Trainee Mission ranking: External Mission Status of mission: Success Additional points of extreme importance: We were able to acquire weapons tablets and bring them back to Deus Ex. Possibly something else of importance, but unclear as to what it was. Commendations or warnings: Lost two hunters: Sandy and Barney. Without them, there wouldn't have been as many returning as their was. I agree that by signing this, all information above is accurate and can be used for or against me:
Report 3 Deus Ex Machina Mission Report Form Date: March 13, 2012 Name: Madison McKenzie Division: Death Status: Intermediate Trainee Mission ranking: External Mission Status of mission: Success-ish but at a really high cost. Weapons tablets were retrieved at least, and since that was the stated goal I guess that means it was a success. It doesn't feel like it though.
Additional points of extreme importance: The two senior hunters with us were... I think they were killed. I'm not sure what happened to Caelius, he was there but he didn't come out with us, but somehow I still don't think he's dead. Also there is DEFINITELY still a monster in there, a really terrible one. I recommend nukes or something. Seriously.
Commendations or warnings: BIGGER WEAPONS/GUNS/BOMBS/ETC. Just from orbit or something. Take that ******** freak out for good. Please?
I agree that by signing this, all information above is accurate and can be used for or against me:
And so on so forth.... though one mission report seemed to be entirely botched and on its contents, simply wrote:
OOC - Otto and Eva are free to ICly take some time to sort through the reports (around 20 of them ) before they can hand the reorganized pile back to Caelius. They should probably work relatively quietly

Oh good. It wasn't just him. However, it would just be himself and Eva. So it wasn't a big group field trip? Well, maybe that was for the better. Bad things happened in groups. And honestly Otto wasn't much of a people person anyway.
After some waiting around, Caelius did acknowledge their presence with that ever present look of his. Always looking at them like they'd wronged him simply by existing. Otto wished one day he could punch that look clean off his stupid face. Fortunately, Otto knew better than trying that any time soon.
Promotional Mission, so that's what was happening. Otto felt a little bit intimidated by that thought. His eyes trailed down to the pile of paperwork they were presented with. Do this first? Well, it seemed a simple enough task. Despite how he looked, Otto actually didn't mind paperwork. Quietly, he took the pile of forms and took them further away from where Caelius sat. Otto sat himself down and looked them over.
Everything seemed usual enough save for the last form. He raised a brow, wondering if this was mixed in by accident, and looked to Eva for answers.

...Paperwork? It certainly wasn't what she had expected from the division head, but it wasn't as if she was going to complain either (granted that he had told them that their actual promotion mission would begin after, but this was an easy enough task to begin with). She moved over to Otto when the boy retrieved the mission reports, staring down at the topmost report with a frown. Were these...? She did a quick skim of the front page before realizing that yes, they were the reports from the most recent report.
She worked slowly and quietly, seating herself down by Otto so that they could work at the task together. With Caelius in the room, joking and friendly chatter seemed out of the question, she Eva simply chose to remain silent, her expression impassive as she glanced at mission report after mission report. This one went here, and that one goes after, and this one...
It didn't take long until she and Otto got all the files in order--all except one, that is. The girl knit her brows together at the sight of the strange form that had been sitting below all the others. Turning, she caught her friend's eyes, and gave a little shake of her head to indicate that she was just as lost as he was. Did this file even belong here?
When she spoke, it was in a hushed tone. "Maybe this was misplaced? I mean, it doesn't look like any of the other forms, so..."

"Misplaced or put there on purpose to throw us off.." Otto whispered back. Otto assumed most Division Heads were out to mess with trainees minds. Any way to rack up ways to get them in trouble, right? Still, there was only so much he could do at this point. Otto knew nothing about codes.
He looked it over again, agonizing about what to do. Until finally his IDGAF meter came back online. "Welp. Stick on top of the pile?" He asked in a hushed tone back to Eva.
He looked at the code again, and smirked. "Those two look like skulls." He whispered mostly to himself.

Caelius did not so much as glance at the pile as he picked up his cell phone. There was a pause, which one could only assume was someone hopefully saying something he wanted to hear. "I will be arriving with the trainees in two minutes."
There was that look he gave the two, which was probably either 'follow me' or 'if you don't follow me then your body will rot on this floor forever' as he headed down the hallway, and surprisingly took a left turn instead of exiting out the main building. There was a barred doorway that said something like 'Authorized personnel only', which he entered a quick pass code and then continued past.
The hallway was very reminiscent of the dank and misshapen corridor that lead to the Pod Chamber. Only, instead of a small, narrow pathway, the cave, as it indeed looked similar in design to a large cave was rather spacious and cold. Other than a few nervous Hunters standing around, there was only one other thing in the large 'room', if it could be called such.
"The instructions are simple." The Death Hunter lead continued, standing to one side of the archaic stone tiles, that looked very much like Deathsweeper itself, save for one odd addition: the glyphs engraved on every tile, sometimes repeated several times. "Each of you will need to step on at least five tiles. If you survive, then, you have passed."
There was an awkward pause where the trainees probably wanted to ask two million questions including 'What if we don't survive' and 'So where are the golems'. The lack of response indicated the answers to those favouring the negative.
One of the Hunter technicians on standby coughed nervously. "You should probably start now, and oh," he leaned in close, trying to be subtle, "Try not to step on the same tile twice in a row, that's an automatic, well, you know." When Caelius glared at him, the Hunter simple stood back and stared at the cavernous ceiling nervously. ??? DEATHSWEEPER RULES:- EACH PLAYER NEEDS TO SURVIVE FIVE ROUNDS. - Select a tile by using this chart OOCly to dictate which tile you stepped on (so for example, OOC: they stepped on A1). ICly just have the character stepping on a glyph tile and attempting to explain the shape like "They stepped on a tile that looked like a banana". - Feel free and PLEASE DO talk out logical reasoning of stepping on that tile with the other player, and themselves as well before making an action. - Once again, when EACH PLAYER is ready to step on a tile, rp their choice out and why, and OOCly post which tile (A1, D2, etc etc) they chose. - Please only choose ONE TILE AT A TIME. Once each player has "thought" it out and made a choice, IC results will be posted of their choices. - Good luck!

And suddenly this was totally a Caelius mission.
Eva hardly had any time to dwell on the strange code when they were promptly whisked away (or rather, stared at threateningly until they moved) to another room. She had shot Otto a questioning look when they paused in front of the barred doorway, but that was all she could manage before they were forced to continue moving.
And now they were a place that honestly sent shivers down Eva's spine. She did not like the looks of those tiles at all. In fact, they brought back rather unpleasant memories of the trials on the Island--she had, after all, been blown to bits all because of one misstep. The only difference was that she (now knew that) she had been in a golem at the time, but right now? Right now she was pretty damn sure that she in her real body, a body made of flesh and blood. A body that would obviously be obliterated if she were to step on a mine.
There was a flicker of recognition in her eyes as she noticed the glyphs on the tiles, followed by a look of regret. Would that sheet from earlier have told them something about where to step? "A few of these glyphs look familiar," She whispered to Otto, eying the tiles warily, "You know, from that sheet we found. Maybe...the little symbols indicated which one of these tiles are safe to step on?"
Or maybe it was the complete opposite. Whatever the case, they had to move. Giving Otto one last nervous glance, Eva stepped onto the tile closest to her, one with a glyph that she vaguely recognized. It looked liked...a bent sword? A Chinese word? Eva never was very good at pictionary. At the very least, the glyph looked nothing like a mine.

Otto took one last look at the forgotten paper work and followed after Caelius with Eva. Where they were going was anyone's guess. Just what did a promotion mission entail?
The room was eerie, and the anxious hunters within stirred absolutely no confidence. He turned to Eva as she spoke, thinking over the symbols they'd seen. Her idea was worth a shot. Otto looked the tiles over, his mind whirring over several possible paths before settling on the closest one to Eva.

As Eva moved to her first tile choice, nothing seemed to happen. And after a good few seconds, still nothing happened. Though the Death Hunter leader seemed as unimpressed as always, there was an audible sigh of relief coming from the other Hunters present during the exercise.
That is, until there was a loud thwack as the tile under Otto unfolded to reveal a large axe that shot upwards, attempting to do its best to cleave the trainee in half.
Some of the Hunter spectators looked away. OOC: ROUND 2 - You CANNOT choose the same tile as you did in round 2 (nor your partner) - Follow the same instructions as round 1, and select another tile - Otto now has taken 15 damage, some hefty damage from the last mistake

So far so good, Otto thought, as all seemed calm. Perhaps all their deducting had---
"HOLYSHI--" Otto almost jumped back as an axe shot up at him. Unable to react quite on time, the weapon tore a large gash up his leg. Hey, it was better than losing something important. Otto cringed at the pain. For now he would have to ignore it. They had a task to do, as vague and random as it was. Every part of his mind wanted to come up with a logical route and path to take, what tile could mean what. But he felt no desire to remain on the axe tile any long, and moved on to another.

"Otto!"
For a second, Eva almost forgot where she was. Just as she was about to rush to her injured friend--her foot lifted and ready to be planted on E4--she jerked in surprise when Chara yelled her name, a hint of "what the hell are you thinking" in her tone as she went on to remind the girl just where they were and what they were doing.
Noting that Otto was moving to a different square, Eva let out a shaky sigh, knowing that they had to continue on. Letting her feet bring her to the square directly in front of her--one that looked a bit like an eye.
And then she braced herself.

Otto was expecting another axe or worse. To his surprise, nothing happened. He looked to Eva to confirm her safety, and decided to press forward.
The tile was the same symbol Eva had stepped on the first run. Would it be safe to step on too? His safety was riding on his decision.
