There was just no right thing to wear to this particular trial.
The weather outside was one thing (abysmal), but the courses were on fire, freezing, underwater, or extreme by turns. And they had to draw lots for their first course.
Barth had just overdressed and hoped for the best. Calder was in good spirits. Barth wanted to be curled up on his sofa. Water dripped off the brim of his traveling hat, and his coat collar was pulled up to his cheekbones. Rain rolled over the coarse fabric. Comfortable and wet did not get along. The only thing worse than being wet was-
Ice Road Runner
Being cold. Oh good, running.
The only thing that would run on this course was Barth's nose.

Calder was given his course for this round, one that he had no choice in. He looked at the sign, looked around, back at the sign, looked up ahead at the towering cliff, and back at the sign.Rock Climbing "Wait.......Wait..................WHAT?!!" He looked around, trying to confirm, but was directed back to the path.
The lepus in his backpack was there to respond, half in his backpack and half leaning on his back. The min's small paws rested on his shoulder. "Did you know that 'smearing' is the term used for placing one's foot against a smooth rock without a foothold? Did you know, that smearing can also mean to stain or slab over something, like your crushed body on a smooth rock?"
Calder's ear's dropped. So high.....So very high.

THE CAVE OF DARKNESS
The Vetala stared at the gaping mouth of the cave entrance, hugging her midsection tightly. Alone. She had to go in the dark alone. It wouldn't be that bad, right? It was just darkness. She liked the dark! There was a lot to be afraid of in the dark, but there were some benefits! Like...it wasn't on fire! See? That was a good thing! Taking a deep breath and squaring her shoulders, she took a step into the cave and didn't once look back at her team mates.
"Did you know, that darkness falls? Watch it doesn't crush you!" Came the chipper voice somewhere beside Amrita as something blocked the way out, swallowing everything in darkness. "N-no, I d-did...did not!" She stammered quietly before falling into a silence almost as deep as the darkness around her, focusing on trying to stay standing on the uneven terrain.

Status Effect -WIND EFFECT: - The wind makes all the open courses difficult! If you are running Rock Climbing, Long Grass Field, Snow Dash, Jungle Course, or Open Race Course, you must roll a 10-sided dice before you start the course. If you roll 1 or 10, you are blown away before you can even start it!
There was a strong gust as he walked slowly to the cliff. Hugging his jacket, he looked up and frowned, looking down at his hooves. The only time he ever took hills was when they went traveling to special meeting places. They mainly stuck to river banks, forest, and fields. Some rocky hills, but nothing too extreme. He wasn't made for this, and worst of all....
"....I don't like heights.""Did you know that the fear of heights is called Acrophobia? Did you know the fear of cliffs is called cremnophobia? Did you know that the word for not making a mess when falling from a great height is called disappointment?" The lepus grinned at him."

Christof had made his way to his assigned path with a look of determination. He could do this. They'd make up for their previous embarrassment. They'd take the field by storm and destroy everything in their path as a strong, able unit- all parts of the same solid whole. All GOOD parts.
THE SNOW DASH it read.
The rain pounded down on him, and he pulled his scarf up over his nose to try to keep his already stiff body warmish. What was a little snow? He wobbled as a fresh gust swept past him. He couldn't see the others. He could barely see the crowd watching. He had faced worse on Christmas, right? Just push forward.

THE CAVE OF DARKNESS
The echos around her seemed to get closer and closer, and it became to disorienting that she threw out her arms to try and find something, anything to help guide her; both hands hit walls. Everything felt a little chilly to her, not that it was necessarily a bad thing. The plus side was, she had something to act as a guide! Awesome! Wonderful! So fantas---
And then she walked right into a wall.
"Ooooowwwww" She whined to herself on habit, though it didn't really hurt at all. Just an annoyance, really. A wrinkle of her nose and a little shake of her head and she set to figuring out what it was. Hmmm...there was a fork here, probably. Or maybe just a random underground pillar thing! Either way she shimmied to the left and continued down, choking down a gasp at the sound of claws from somewhere above her.
Behind her, the Lepus Guide picked up her flag for her, adding it to it's little pile.

THE CAVE OF DARKNESS
The only reason she realized there was a breeze was because something blew into her eye; after a moment of panic and some very choice words she realized that it was just her own hair. Rather, pieces of it that had come loose from the braid that was over her shoulder. Once she had calmed down she noticed the very faint lighting...and even more, the little opening just ahead.
"Did you know... you are probably too big to get in there?" The Lepus submitted helpfully, which he 'accidentally' received a kick for. Really, she didn't mean it! Her foot uhhh...slipped! Yes! It was dark in here! That was her excuse and she was sticking to it. "I bet I can!" She argued, the light actually making her a little braver; at least it wasn't pitch black anymore!
She got down on her hands and knees, and then down on her belly, and proved the Lepus wrong. Her hips took a little bit of wiggling to get through, but hey, she got through! ...She was covered in mud now, though. Fantastic.
Didn't stop her from sticking her tongue out at the lepus in triumph before continuing on in the darkness.

Alright, here we go. Christof drew in a sharp breath through his scarf, pushing forward as the wind blasted even harder than before... his feet wobbled in the snow and just as he felt the world drop out from under him, caught up in the gale until he was airborne, a tiny voice from the pack hanging from his hunch murmured with a chatter, "Did you know... during the great Mad Science Convention of 1827, twelve Igors lost their lives to a tornado machine?"
So useful, that little lepus guide.

And then she got lost. Really, Really lost. She made it back to the fork somehow, and then back to where she had been just after the little hole in the wall, and then there was just a steady stream of dead ends after dead ends after dead ends!
She was nearing the point of tears when someone - she had no idea who - found her, and brought her back to the rainy, windy surface.

Long Grass Field
Lizzy smiled at her course; she liked it. She liked the fact that it wasn't on fire, nor was it too dry or too wet. It looked like the kind of course for her... Even though she felt like a Pokeman the moment she stepped into the grassy fields, the long grass towering over her as she gripped the straps of her bag and continued forward.
"Did you know that wild pokemon lie in the tall grass?"
Lizzy knew she was going to enjoy the day already. Yup.

OBSTACLE ONE: The rocks are sharp and hard to hold onto without hurting yourself... Calder was glad he wore a kilt today, though he wished it wasn't one of his longer ones. He had free range of movement, but he wondered if the thick cotton would snag. Adjusting his jacket and backpack strap, he started to take a walk, and then a jog, and then a run towards the cliff. The only way he learned how to get up a hill was to start with some momentum, and he only wished it would work in his favor. The fact he didn't even want to go up a few feet, let alone up a cliff of death, made running at it all the more harder.
He managed the base, pressing his hooves and jumping and scaling with his back legs alone, but things were getting steep fast. Luckily the wind was drowning out whatever helpful words his Lepus Guide was giving, though it was also causing him to loose his momentum.
By the time he scales to the lowest corner, he was clinging desperately, trying to keep what little footing his hooves could gain, and reached out slowly for his first flag. To this, he heard his Lepus open his mouth. "Did you kn-Calder stuffed his flag in it's mouth and started to climb. He didn't want to know. Right now, all he DID know was that there was a whole lot of space between him and the ground.
