Today was a typical day. Perhaps it was a different typical day than what they had been to Kialio a couple months ago, but now it was very normal to wake up, make his way over to Nisha’s den and spend some time with his cubs. Perhaps it hadn’t been a planned thing, and maybe he was a bit young still, but the black and blue lion was quite enjoying fatherhood.

Fortunately Nisha was handling most of the important things, which may be for the best. She was their mother, and wiser than he was. But it was a learning experience for him, and Kialio, coming form a large, happy family, simply enjoyed the time spent with his offspring.

But that was done for today! As usual, now the scout had to go work, and let Nisha handle things for the day, give her some space. Still, he had a contented smile upon his face as he headed out towards the borders.

Some time had passed since her initial introduction into the pridelands and the blue and white lioness found herself adjusting to the relaxed life the pride had to offer. It was a different existence that the one she was accustomed to, there was no mist for her to slide in and out of but the trees offered plenty of shade and foliage to disappear into. It was a small comfort but one the lioness enjoyed. While the pride was bustling, even teeming with life the lioness had the tendency to stay alone.

This was what had led her to trot silently across the grasses, head held his as her gray eyes slowly observing the world around her. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, she let her gaze linger too far to the left, letting her miss the dark lion who seemed (in her startled state) to appear out of nowhere. She nearly crashed into him.

Quickly she halted herself, teetering briefly on the tips of her toes before she stumbled a few steps back. "My apologies."

It wouldn't really be the first time someone almost ran into him. In fact, he'd been actually ran into at least twice now. It happened when you walked a little distractedly, and were in such a busy pride. So Kialio took the whole thing in stride, despite initially being startled by how close someone had suddenly gotten to him. He blinked, hears perked as he focused is eyes on the lioness.

Initially looking confused, he smiled. "That's quite alright! It was at least partially my fault, too. So, sorry!" Kialio nodded, because for such a thing to happen both of them must have been distracted somehow! "Nice to meet you, though. My name is Kialio." He still hadn't gotten far enough out to just assume this lioness was an outsider (or, had been), since pridelanders came in all sorts of colors.

Indivar was surprised by the friendliness of the dark male when he quickly smiled despite her nearly crashing into him. Silently she scolded herself for not paying enough attention to her whereabouts to allow a slip up like that. Back home...back in her old home something like this would have never happened. She would have never allowed it. It was strange how easily this new territory overwhelmed her senses and distorted her abilities.

In a strange way it was exciting.

"I doubt that," she replied blinking slowly as she tilted her head. She hadn't expected him to try and claim partial blame for what she had decided was simply her mess up. "I'm still getting used to these lands," she continued, "I think it will be a while before I get a decent enough handle to not accidentally stumble into someone else." She shrugged afterwards as though it wasn't anything big.

"My name is Indivar," she introduced herself with a curt nod.

"Oh?" His smile didn't fade, and Kialio was a little amused. Why would she deny him claim to the near-accident? It seemed logical enough to him, seeing as to be run into he must have been distracted, as well. They were living in a savannah, he couldn't claim not being able to see well in such open lands. But he wouldn't point that out, if she wanted to keep the blame to herself, or something. Kialio didn't mind being 'innocent'.

So she wasn't from around here! Which, come to think of it, looked fitting. She hadn't smiled yet, most pridelands-born pridelanders were friendly sorts, who smiled. She looked very polite. "Really? Are your homelands very different?" He couldn't help his own curiosity, it was part of what had led him to become a scout.

She regarded him carefully, her lips set in tight line. Gray eyes took in every inch of the dark male, curious as to what made him so personable. "Yes, very much so," she replied, tone cool and her voice soft. "I come from," she paused to chose her words carefully. Briefly she wondered if he had ever heard of the lands covered in mist. "I come from a pride nearby, or one that used to be near but a plague overtook most of our members and the rains had been scarce so we had to relocate," she explained a small semblance of a frown on her maw.

For a moment there was a flicker of sadness in her eyes as she looked down then quickly looked back up. "My homelands were constantly shrouded in a layer of mist, if you did not know how to navigate it you could be lost forever," she lamented missing the coolness of the place. She doubted she would ever return though, there was nothing left. They had all parted ways and sadly, Indivar had accepted that it was unlikely that she would see any of her family again.

"It's so open and...green here," she commented thoughtfully tilting her head slightly. "And there are so many creatures about in abundance, it's a little odd but comforting."

He knew better than to smile while someone sounded sad, and his ears drooped slightly. What happened to her homelands sounded terrible, he couldn't imagine what he would do if such a thing happened to the pridelands (again). Kialio had been born long after the first great plague, but had heard of it. With so many members now, disease would spread quickly in his home-- he shuddered, thinking about it. "I'm sorry about your pride."

He had probably even heard of them at some point. A pride, hidden in the mists. "It sounds very mysterious, though. Your pride. I would have liked to see it someday, but..." He trailed off, because she had just said the plague had struck them, and the pride was no more.

When she commented on he pridelands, a small smile reappeared on his face, and he glanced around. "Yes. I love it here very much." He swished his tail. Just as he was sure Indivar had loved her home. "I hope you will be happy here, Indivar."

"Don't be," she replied softly. It was a tragedy, losing her homelands but she had come to accept it. It no longer felt like a claws buried deep into her heart, instead it was like a dull throb. Something constantly there but no longer noticeable. Unless she thought too much about it, those were the days when sadness threatened to overtake her. The days when tears threatened to spill from her eyes and she swore her chest constricted so tightly it would burst.

She tried not to think too much about it, she didn't like to cry. Still, she missed her family and that was the saddest part about her pride dissolving. "I miss my family the most, but they always told me everything happened for a reason...we are guided by our destinies." There was a soft smile on her maw.

"We were a very mysterious pride, perhaps that is why I am still adjusting," she shook her head. "I believe I like it so far, many are kind."

"You are very strong." He observed, gently. In a very strange way, he envied her. Not her loss, what she had been through. But Kialio did not know if he would be such a strong lion himself, and even doubted it a little. This thought made him feel weak, and ashamed, even if it was irrational. He was very inexperienced as far as life went, and though the male was growing in some ways, not much had changed. He was content before, and he continued content.

This was quite a strange turn for him, upon meeting a new person. He hadn't talked about sad things in his way before, or even reflected this way upon himself. It fascinated Kialio, in some ways. "Perhaps... there is hope, in finding your family again." He suggested, hoping it wasn't ridiculous. Perhaps some of her family still lived.

"I must admit, Indivar. I am a curious lion." He offered her a sheepish smile there. "Your pride sounds... fascinating, I suppose. Perhaps one day, you could tell me about it?" He realized it might be painful, though. "If that was a stupid thing to ask, feel free to hit me."

"Thank you," she murmured quietly suddenly feeling shy. That wasn't a word she would have chosen to describe herself but now that he had said it...it seemed fitting. Being strong meant overcoming challenges and the gods only knew that she had been through quite a bit in the last couple of months. Of course no one had ever said life would be easy, nor did she expect it to be, not any longer. "I hadn't thought of it that way before," she told him looking up, gray eyes bright.

"I suppose it will always be a possibility," she responded sounding hopeful at the idea of one day reuniting with her family again. "Only time will tell, although I must admit I have never been one who is very patient," she laughed lightly, a sound that may have been surprising. She didn't seem like the type to laugh often, if at all. "One day..." she mumbled.

When he mentioned that her pride was intriguing a smile flickered across her maw. "I suppose I can find it within myself to tell you stories," she replied complete with a firm nod. "Perhaps one day I will gath the courage to return, if I do I might ask you to join me," she continued having decided that she rather enjoyed his company.

He blinked, perking his ears ever so slightly. Kialio hadn't meant to make Indivar feel shy, but it was rather cute. And when she laughed he grinned and chuckled with her, because he really hadn't expected such a thing. It was nice to see, though. The male found he rather liked making others laugh and smile.

"Who knows? Family has a way of stumbling on you sometimes." It had been somewhat different in his case, but perhaps Kialio could still claim to speak from experience.

"I'm happy to hear that!" He nodded. Hearing her stories sounded nice, and... "Go...with you?" Indivar might someday be doing him a great kindness, he realized. Or she was helping him be kind to her, and that was alright with him. For a few moments he simply looked confused, then smiled. "Sounds good. In the meantime, perhaps I can show you around my home! Or, your new home, I guess? I can show you all the cool spots."

She nodded her head slightly, in agreement with him. It wasn't something she'd hold her breath for but she'd keep her mind open. Anything could happen and she would let it because if it was meant to happen then it would. "Yes," she replied quickly not giving his question much of a second though. "Stories aren't enough for some, especially if they are the curious sort," she explained referring to when he said that he was a curious lion.

She considered his proposal with a slight toss of her head. "Okay," she agreed after a few minutes of being quiet. "I think I'd like that," she told him because their exchange had been pleasant between them. She believed she would enjoy extended time around him. "It would be very nice," she confirmed.

He briefly wondered if it was a good idea to not being continuing on his way out towards the border, to do his scouting. But Kialio was forced to admit that, right now, what was more interesting to him was Indivar. Maybe he could feel guilty later.

"Brilliant!" He grinned dumbly, then turned his body slightly. "I think we could start by heading that way." He indicated with his head. Kialio waited a few moments for Indivar to join him, then began to walk, happy he found found what he thought would turn out to be a very good friend.
