1. This contest is open to those who do NOT own a clawed harpy. This includes hippogryphs that are being roleplayed as harpies. If you have a clawed soq that is NOT in the flock and is NOT a harpy or is not being portrayed as such, you may still enter. Those who own (non-clawed) males in the flock are also able to enter.
2. This basket has to stay in the flock. No excuses; no way around it. None of this they want to see the world outside of the flock. They're not raised that way. Period.
3. RPing is a MUST. If you're just going to take the baby and leave; don't bother entering.
4. You're welcome to edit your entries up until the contest closes.
5. No discouraging others. No whining. No calling favoritism. No talking about the winner behind their back. I will find out and you will be reported. I don't like sore losers.

Will be giving info on direct relatives (Parents, grandparents) and
relatives the baskets are likely to interact with; as well as flock members the baskets will be around. Mother
Vanya is narcissistic to a tee. She takes pride in all things she does and every feature she has. She is obsessed with owning beauty and often collects things she finds beautiful - trinkets, jewllery, men.. She's very over the top with her actions - the way she speaks, the way she moves and especially the way she dances.
She considers herself above her sisters when it comes to beauty, though she is aware that she is not the strongest, fastest or the wisest - she finds those traits boring and trivial.
Vanya is a dancer. Besides protecting and continuing the flock it is all she lives for. She believes she is the most skilled, most graceful and most beautiful dancer in the flock and while no one confirms it, they cannot deny her skill. When she dances, men fall to their knees begging for time with her
(or so she says..).
While she is gifted in the act of dance, she is tone deaf when it comes to singing and sometimes envies those of her sisters who are able to sing - especially those who can sing and dance. Vanya plays music with bells - that's about as close as she gets to musical talent and that relies on her dancing.
Vanya enjoys crafting jewellery - either for herself or for her sisters on special occasions. It is simply a hobby of hers and so she doesn't do it often. She uses her harem to collect gems and other various materials.
While Vanya understands the need to mate to strengthen the flock, she is very selective with who she breeds with. She looks for beauty, good genetics, rather than a strength and what have you. She never stays with the same stallion and while she may have a favourite, she will not selectively breed with him believing it is a waste of her god given beauty. Vanya collects men like she collects trinkets and jewellery.
However, due to her size and lack of strength, Vanya has to rely solely on her beauty and skill in dancing to capture her males. Sometimes she may set traps or seek help from another sister in bringing down a male if she wants him more than any other treasure.
The easiest way to win Vanya over is to compliment her and give her things that are beautiful. Insulting her, in anyway, even if it is something that is meant to be constructive criticism, will result in a very angry, very mean harpy with very sharp claws wanting to tear your head off. She is very possessive of the beautiful things she's claimed and would only be willing to share if she deemed the sister wanting them worthy.
Father
Born to Zahraa' and Cabiole Amachi and growing in the Flock, young Taarab is content with life, and eager to please, desiring little more then to be useful to the flock, and from a young age entertained himself by putting random items together as he thought, thinking of the knowledge passed onto him and mulling on it cheerfully.
Growing up, this develops into a full fledged drive for arts and crafts, and desires to build a guild within the men to make items for the flock: Tools, nest decorations, and accessories.
Taarab is the Favored Pet of Aylin the Oracle, so she has a say in whether or not a mare gets to borrow him -- Because of his usefulness both inside and outside of breedings, she'd rather he not be borrowed by a more aggressive mare, and wishes to use him to experiment with adapting to the changing world as she feels the spirits are leading them to.
Their Relationship
Vanya and Taarab met long ago when Vanya commissioned the artisan's guild to make the bells she wears in her hair. Taarab was the one who took this task on and has continued to do so ever since as Vanya tends to lose them a lot due to their size.
Vanya often visits Taarab for advice when she's making new jewelry or simply to see what he's working on; respecting his skill. Eventually, she decided that he would make the perfect candidate for breeding and contacted the Oracle to ask for permission. She granted it and thus, as if by magic, within short order Vanya fell pregnant with children from the verile artisan.
When Taarab is not tending to the Oracle and his duty to her and the guild, he is with Vanya in her nest; her favored nest warmer. Taarab, currently, is the only male in the flock Vanya respects and considers him the closest thing a male in the flock can get to being equal.
Grandmother
Zahraa' is one of the two commanders directly under the Queen within her flock/herd. She is a haughty, judgmental individual suffering from a case of extreme vanity and moderate sadism, but where there is vanity there is envy, and what Raa' envies and cannot have she detests. Within her herd she adores her queen and respects her "sisters", forming few true friendships. The ones she has managed to forge are likely to carry on throughout her lifetime.
In the eyes of her flock she is ruthless and short tempered. Not above dishing out punishment where needed, corporeal or otherwise. Following the teachings and beliefs of her mothers and grandmothers, she sees males as lesser, breeding stock and slaves. They are entertainment and a means to continue their lineage, playthings and possible laborers, but not much more. Of course in private, should she actually get attached to a male for whatever reason, she'd be affectionate. Coldly and mildly sadistically affectionate, but affectionate none the less.
Or so she thought.
After capturing the stallion known as Cabriole Amachi and getting him settled into the flock, the commander had grown possessive of her prize, claiming him hers and hers alone as well as having a somewhat warmer affection. However, despite taking him as her Prefered Pet and being fond of the stallion as much as a proper female could, she still see's herself as superior to him -- he's just a superior stallion in her eyes to the others available to breed, his knowledge and willingness to share it, his readiness to sing in warm tones, and his tender and empathetic ministering of her needs warming her to her honey colored stallion like one would their prize winning purebred pup.
Grandfather
Cheerful, goofy, and casually affectionate, Cabriole marches to the beat of his own drum. He was raised mostly by his godfather Cuauhcoatl, the angeni of Learning, and thus developed a heightened sense of curiosity and a thirst for learning on top of his desire to sing and dance. He had an itch that he couldn't scratch, and the feeling of being 'redundant' in his home however, and eventually his father Mecho took him to learn the art of Trade, hoping it would give the young stallion a direction in life.
As it turned out, he often used to overthink what he was doing, resulting in the lack of ability in song and dance. It wasn't until after one fateful day where he encountered Zahraa' and was taken into the flock that he finally found his voice, and found a place that finally felt 'right', able to study a rich and alien culture, and be of most use. Best of all, he learned from his 'mistress', the mare that had captured him and kept him as a trophy pet, to stop his overanalyzing how to sing and dance, and found his born abilities, and spirit, finally free.
In a culture of male sub servitude, he finally found a place that he truly belonged.
Half-Sister
Laveda is a friendly, kind sort but rather blunt and to the point at times socially, her mind too focused elsewhere on other things. She plots her movements out ahead of her and moves efficiently as possible from location to location, and thrives on not wasting time. Her time is far too valuable and her attentions are better focused inward and into the either and astral. Her efficiency comes from observation, and that observation is what makes her priestess for the flock and training under her mother as her possible replacement as oracle when Aylin chooses to retire as acting oracle and spiritual leader and just focus on entertaining herself and possibly rearing more children.
This does however mean that she doesn't really waste time with a proper courtship with stallions or waste time helping outsider stallions get used to the flock with her protection and guidance -- any stallion captured is most likely to be handed off to another mare until he has settled in enough to be comfortable and at least somewhat happy with his captivity, and thus less likely to flee when seeking privacy for procreation. Instead she asks for volunteers and puts them through some tests in a public location within the Flock, allowing other mares to choose potential mates from the spectacle as well. While she's friendly and warm the entire time, her blunt ways and possible catcalls from the sidelines sometimes can cause the situation to be awkward for the stallions performing.
Her involvement
The mare, at the time of the birth of the baskets, is still young and not quite an adult but on the cusp of her transition into adulthood, but is already picked for training as a priestess and handmaiden for her gift of intuition and observation. She acts in her mother's stead when the oracle is incapable of being there to observe the youth's progress and judge the spirits wishes, and bestow blessings when necessary. She'd also have the tendancy, as older halfsister, to give them gifts on occasion before she is called to the temple or on her visits, though often times the gifts would be practical things rather than frivolous -- a healthy treat or a tool for their trade over a toy or shiny bauble.
Sister-in-arms - Close friend of Vanya's.
Risuleri and her brother Rafiki were basket-born just before the earthquakes that eventually lead to the leaving of the flock, and their baskets rested in one of the old nursey caves with her mother and one of the nannies and their nursemaids.
However, as the tremors turned into the first of the full quakes, the cave began to crack and eventually collapsed.
It was one of the first tragedies of the cataclysmic event that was at then only one isolated event -- Many baskets, recent mothers, and mares were lost to the falling rocks.
Except for two baskets, found in a pile of rubble, the precious bundles shielded by a young nursemaid named Risuleri. Shortly after the foals immerged, and the young mare of the siblings was given the name of the mare that gave her life up to save them, and they were dubbed "Earthstrike" in memory of the Earthquake.
A month later, the Second of the Great quakes struck, the mountains roaring. By the time it was over, whole valleys proved inhospitable, the ground too unstable to climb to the other side, entire families found crushed in the rubble, and the river's flow began to slow.
As more disasters befell the valley, Risuleri, just a child and not understanding what was happening and scared of the land she was in, joined her Flock in the great migration from the lands after the burning invisible fumes and angry fires ate at their land enough to chase the survivors, too many to survive near the safety of the temple territory to the new land.
Because of this, the young mare grew with the strong loyalty to her family for the need of protection.... But the curiosity of the younger generations of their new world, wishing to learn more of it all.
The filly grew into a dignified young mare with a kind curiosity, and courteous behaviors to all she meets, preferring to try and convince stallions to join the herd than use violence.
Her involvement
Risuleri shares Vanya's harem and is a close friend and groomer. Unlike Laveda, Risuleri would be far more involved with the growing siblings and, as a fellow dancer, even if she grew up without the liberty of focusing souly on dance and has thus become accustomed to hunting and foraging, she often uses her trips out to find things she can either turn into or trade within the flock for little luxuries for their group, including toys, treats, and jewelry.
She is, however, useless in keeping the kids round up once they take to the trees, being grounded from aborial life eternally as a half-harpy.

While the tradition is only small, that's the way all traditions start off. This tradition is important to me, as it is the first tradition in my soquili and that's exciting.
The tradition is that all of Vanya's daughters will have names that start with Van.
Why? Because, by my understanding, Van used in names means Beauty in Elvish. Vanya's name means beauty and it would only make sense for her to want her daughters to hold the same title.
This small tradition is one I'd like to carry on - at least with her daughters and then perhaps her daughters can make their own traditions.

This is not a prompt response contest. It's a personality/plot contest. We're looking for someone who will fit into the flock while bringing something unique as well.
Entries where the foal will end up being violent towards males (physically as well as mentally) will be ignored. Vanya will not raise her children like that. They will not be around mares who are like that. There is no way they will end up like that.
Vanya will be very protective of her children. She was bullied as a foal because she developed late - she was lanky, her feathers were odd and small. She'll fear that her children will go through this and so they will not be raised by nannies. They will still go to their lessons, with her observing, but besides that, until Vanya believes they are ready and old enough, they will be with her.[u][b]Username:[/b][/u]
