Despite their rocky start and rather terse few days after, Pieces was quite happy that they'd found Bang and the search was proceeding as planned. Days like this when they travelled like a family could almost make him ignore the unhappy noises from their reluctant pets and forget the strange owlcat that accosted him after the 'haunted' caves (thankfully, it had left after a scratch-filled 'getting to know' period). His tactic now was to search along larger bodies of water, where Kimeti would likely congregate. He led the pack, trailing up the length of a river. The occasional scales surfacing and tails flicking alerted him to the presence of alligators, but he was so chipper he could barely bring himself to be worried. They were going at a good pace. " Nice weather huh?" he turned his head back, remarking conversationally to his sisters. [Bang can go to town! wink Rewind will be a little quiet because she's scared to death of Bang...]

“No.” Bang replied curtly. She scowled at her brother, his good mood guaranteeing that she had woken up even grumpier than usual today. While she had stopped visualizing smashing her sibling’s heads in while they slept, there was still a nasty glint in her eyes whenever she looked at either of them.

Re-wind smiled in response to her brother's query, but did not speak, hanging back a little from the train with a rather unhappy Stealjaw by her side. She had been quiet lately. Very quiet. Normally that would have been no mean feat for the perennially explicatory doe, but...well. It had been easy. Because she had the distinct feeling that her newfound sister, Bang, was not quite fond of her explication. And she. Was freaking. Terrified. Of Bang. Ergo, silence was the flavour of the month.

Pieces was satisfied with both his sisters' acknowledgement. Truth be told, it was rare to get this blessed silence that he'd scarcely experienced after joining up with Re-wind (the horticultural talks were neverending) and Bang (her owlcat and their abusive exchanges were mostly loud and owlcat screechy). If they preferred to stay quiet, he was completely fine with that today. The sound of water, even if splashed about by dangerous reptiles, was quite soothing on this sunny day. He tilted his head as he sighted a figure lingering by the riverside. An irrational hope surged in his heart, and Pieces tried to shake it off...but yet still quickened his pace. [Sorry for the delay - it's finally time for Give Up Forever to start crossing the lake! Pieces will follow up and startle her into the water after. lol ]

The doe paced up and down the bank trying to figure a way to get accross. The presence of the alligators certainly had not escaped her, but she had to get to the other side. Give Up Forever had been alone and searching all her life feeling like there was something out there waiting for her to find it. So far the only thing to spark more than a passing interest was the black and white frog Swallowed Light. He'd gotten ahead of her that day and Give had lost track of him until a few moments ago when she'd spotted him hopping along without a care on the opposite bank. "How did he manage to get over there," she stopped her pacing and stomped a hoof in frustration. With that out of her system she went back to studying the water. About halfway across a fallen tree formed a partial bridge. There were rocks leading to it, but with so many alligators about it was hard to judge, a point proven as one "rock" slipped beneath the surface with hardly a ripple. She shivered at the sight and almost turned away when Swall hopped into view again looking at her in a way that said "what's taking you so long?" That did it... . "If I take my time and study the rocks to make sure they are rocks before I jump to them... I can do this." After a bit more study she made the jump landing on solid rock. "Yes, I CAN do this!" She studied the next possibilities trying to view them as which would be the best landing spots rather than thinking about whether or not they were really a rock and took the next leap....

As the figure became more distinct, he noted that it was a doe with very specific patterning. Pieces craned his neck over the riverside, locating the telltale eye-lining marking - a glance back at the uncharacteristically quiet Rewind, yes, it was very similar indeed - and noting the leg splatters - why, just like Bang's own mottled limbs! And streaks of bright orange-red, not unlike... A lucky day indeed! What a stunning coincidence that they would gather another sister today! The more he examined her as she navigated a path over water, the more he was convinced. Pieces couldn't contain his excitement. " It's a sister!" He exclaimed to the siblings by his side. " Our sister!" A gallop closer to the doe's path, and he cried out to her in giddy joy, " HEY! HEY! Good Swampmother YOU'RE FAMILY! YOU'RE OUR SISTER! HI!" Tygress Dream Cue falling in, poor girl! Then we'll get Hero in to rescue her!

Finally she was just a leap away from the relative security of the fallen log. Give faintly noted the sound of someone approaching as she gathered herself for the jump. The sound of a voice registered as she leapt...who in the swamp? She didn't recognize the voice so focused on keeping her footing on the slick log.
The voice... a male voice... grew louder and she acctually registered the words, he was calling to someone, could it be her? And then the words "family.... sister...." knocked all other thoughts and caution out of her head and she turned around, "Wha.... ahhhhh...." A scream escaped her as the sudden turn caused one leg to slip and she fell sliding down the log and toward the water and the danger within.....

His grin grew wider as her head tilted 'round, the flowers making a crimson halo around her dusky eyes that looked so much like Rewind's - in that moment, he experienced pure delight. Then she fell in. " NOOOO!!!" Pieces shrieked, jolting up in sheer horror. " AAAA!!!" - and immediately the monstrous owlcat leapt out of the shrubbery and launched itself at him, hissing as it dug its unforgiving claws into his flesh. " AAAAAAAAAAAA" Pieces wailed, completely disabled by the vicious creature. How could he have found another sister and killed her straight away?! To Hero, it was just another day. He was enjoying a nice swim in a nice lake, with Adventure giving him some room. The buck was oblivious to the world, just a sunny day and the birds were chirping every now and then. Of course, he knew about the alligators, but they didn't seem to bother him. One glance from Adventure (even though it was smaller than them) was enough to convince them that he wasn't a meal they wanted to try out. His reverie was interrupted by shouting nearby. Up to this point, only the top of his head and nostrils were above water. The buck's head shot up immediately, only to realize it was good shouting. But, as Hero looked around, he caught the tail end of a splash and then more yelling - this time it was a bad thing. The alligators were quickly on the move, so Hero had to act fast. "Adventure!" the buck cried out, trying to get the caiman's attention, but the creature was already ahead of him. Hero swam to the doe's side, his hooves beating at eyes and dodging sharp teeth as best he could. It was a good thing he practiced with Adventure - who was a bit more agile than these larger reptiles. Finally, only a few scrapes and brusises, Hero was at her side. "Hello miss, I am here to rescue you!" He tried to get her to follow, offering his shoulder -or hair- to grab on to to bring her to the other side. Meanwhile, there was a lot of howling and hissing from the fighting reptiles. Adventure was more than useful in this case, although Hero still had to plant a well-placed hoof here and there.

Give struggled trying to find something to hold on to but she ended up fully in the water flailing about for a moment before finally getting her limbs focused on acctually swimming. They were coming, she knew the alligators were there, but there seemed to be more noise than there should be and nothing had taken a bite out of her yet.
She turned and looked to see a buck swimming and fighting his way toward her... Was it the one who had called her? She followed the buck's lead striking with her hooves to keep the gators away, but it was difficult while trying to swim, an activity her muscles were not accustomed to. One persistant reptile managed to grab her tail but a kick and tug and it pulled away with a mouthfull of hair. And then the buck was there beside her telling her he was there to rescue her. She managed a small grin as she struggled to swim beside him, not caring at this point which side they ended up on... the one with her frog or the one with her maybe family...

Pieces struggled with a blur of fangs and claws and everything the owlcat could throw at him, finally shoving it away for a split-second. " Good Motherfather - " he gasped at the sight and shook his head free of the animal's clutches, " - is that a...a buck???" And so it was, one with luxurious hair and a muzzle that looked bewilderingly familiar...the red so stark even in alligator-infested waters, a streak of gold as he swam towards the bank with their new sister. He cast a wild-eyed look back on Re-wind - it had to be, the very first sibling that he had looked for, searched for so long: " your twin!" he ascertained, and cried, with the owlcat firmly attached to him, " Re-wind! Bang! Come on!" and started sprinting to the river's edge. EchoLimaFoxtrot Bring her up please, Hero? smile

Bang was enjoying the show. She was, in fact, laughing, and made no move to follow her brother or be in the slightest bit helpful. With any luck they would all drown themselves.

Re-wind also made no move to follow her brother, but she wasn't laughing. And, nor, for once, was it from fear of Bang. It may partially have been from the Eaglehound firmly attached to her tail, having frantically held her back from the moment she had shown inclination of jumping into the water to save her maybe-sister (she could not, actually, swim). No. She stood stock-still, gaping, at an utter loss for words.
Because the buck in the water.
Looked.
Just.
Like her.
One sac in three had one chance in ten to contain twins, she was aware. She just never knew she had been in one.

Hero was an excellent swimmer - have had much practice with his similar-looking caiman. Oblivious to anything else that was on the bank, he fought his way to the shore, having to help the doe up from the now rolling waters every once in awhile. Every once-in-awhile, a red scaled head would pop up, only to dive again and wreak havoc on the much-larger reptiles.
Finally, it was over - or so it had seemed. Hero stumbled to the bank, helping the doe with a gallant effort.
When she was on solid ground, he turned to the waters. Many eyes looked angrily back, cheated from their meal. They had the taste of blood (Hero, at least, had more than a few scrapes and bumps) and wanted more. The buck had no sympathy for them. His eyes searched for the red hide of his one consistent companion.
Right when he was about to call out, the caiman strode over, obviously proud and without a scratch to show for its efforts.
Satisfied, Hero turned to the others, water dripping from fur, hair, and talisman. It seemed to work well in the situation, his Quest for the bartering items had been well worth it - it now officially saved his life at least once (he was sure), and helped save that of another.
The other... Hero's attention was now on the doe. Looking her over carefully for any damage, he looked her her familiar face, "Are you okay?"
The others were not forgotten. He recognized his twin immediately. It may have been a lifetime ago that he last caught a glimpse, but he would recognize his reflection anywhere. He nodded a greeting, unsure of what to say from her stare - she seemed to have forgotten (or perhaps not known) that she was a twin.
One doe looked (could it be?) disappointed in how things turned out. And the other buck, well, he seemed to have a problem all his own.
"Um..." he stumbled on words, "...hello..."

It was all a blur of splashing water and scales but finally she and her rescuer were scrambling up the bank. Give moved a few more steps, wanting to be further from the churning waters before she flopped to the ground. Give looked herself over, there were cuts and she was sore but the most the teeth had claimed was a large portion of hair from the tip of her tail.
She managed a bit of a smile, "Yes, I think I'm ok. Thank you."
Then she looked toward the approaching buck and the two does who held back... was the darker one laughing? Ok maybe if she'd been observing the situation she'd have seen the humor in the whole thing... but still it was hardly appropriate. The other doe had Give looking back at her rescuer and then back to the doe again. Twins? How amazing. Could these acctually be her siblings?
